Oh yeah, Kevin also sings these last few years. It's a new skill for him. He's actually trained in playing string instruments. I think he plays the cello. He's also good at keyboards. OK I'm done.
I love to watch vocal coaches and just people in general reacting to this group and this song in particular. This song gives me chills every time I hear it. I miss Avi Kaplin, he's the dark haired bearded guy and he left the group to go solo.
You’re absolutely right; the dynamics here are superb... the crescendo in the chorus after Kirstie’s solo leading to the abrupt stop as Mitch begins his solo, his climax then leading to the quiet octave unison chorus - absolutely delicious.
They definitely sound like a much bigger group than just 5. They give such a full sound and their ability to build up and drop off so seamlessly is a special talent in and of itself. They capture your attention and emotion and take you along for the ride. And what a beautiful ride it is.
I'm loving the live version. The official video is awesome and I've literally watched it I've 100 times with different reactors. But to see it in its live performance just proves that they don't record things that they cannot replicate in real life. They consistently reduce me to a shivering puddle of goosebumps and emotional goop! The tears just flow!
So glad you reacted to this. I have a hard time not crying when Mitch hits that high note at the end of his verse. I hope you have the time to read about this group's history. Three kids with a love of singing attending the same Texas high school.
❣**THERE ARE LITERALLY NO WORDS IN MY ENGLISH VOCABULARY, THAT CAN DESCRIBE THIS GROUP!!!** ❣ I have also come to the conclusion, that Mitch is an Alien, from a galaxy far far away 🙃 😊🙃
This was an excellent video to watch for an example of a live performance by Pentatonix. NBC is the network this aired on it was their first Christmas special. It's also the network that hosted The Sing-Off which they won in the third season so they have sound people there that know how to set the soundboard right for acapella and what we got was an accurate representation of how they sound unlike most appearances on morning talk shows and things like that. Another really accurate representation is when they were on Jimmy Kimmel's oh I don't remember what event it was but they were having people sing outside to an audience and Pentatonix when they were the guests saying The Sound of Silence live and it has really good sound quality as well. Another excellent live performance is more theatrical and so in the pocket and stretching the bounds of what we thought they could do that even though a fan captured it on her cell phone, it is well worth seeing! Even when you can't see all five of them at the same time you can hear them very well. But it's a number that is focused on Mitch as the lead with everybody else in the background and they are doing awesome stuff and Mitch is doing groundbreaking things we've never seen before from him at that time. It was a shock to the most die-hard fan Pentatonix even and I'm so glad she captured that performance! It's called "Aha" Live Singapore star Vista and you may have already reacted to it but I'm unsure as I just now subscribed. You'll know you have the correct video if the thumbnail is Mitch and he's dressed all in black . I really like how you talk about the spiritual connection between the members of the group. It does make a difference.
Your reaction is so sweet. I could tell that you obviously love the song, and you almost immediately fell in love with Pentatonix. That smile said everything. Could you react to "Mary Did You Know"? Their cover is gorgeous!
Thank you for the profound reaction! I was quite sure you'd enjoy this performance. Now, after Christmas, have a look a their somewhat similar "live" performance of their original song, New Year's Day. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
I love all your reactions, Valerie. The idea that the whole is equal to more than the sum of it's parts is never more evident than with this group. And your description of that intangible element that we get when singers come together was beautiful. I new it was there, but had never thought of it the way that you described it. Thank you for that. This is one of the greatest songs of all time, and I've heard it performed by many, many singers; all good and some very good. But none like Pentatonix. Now, when I think of Hallelujah, I automatically associate it with Pentatonix. In essence, for me, it is now their song. And I love the energy that comes when they do it live. But for pure vocal perfection, I recommend that you view their official You Tube performance of this song. It has almost a half a billion views, and when you watch and listen to it, you'll see why. I truly enjoy all your reactions, Valerie; I learn something every time. And the smile and feeling that you display when you really like something is priceless. Best wishes for a happy and safe Holiday Season. Billy J
I my opinion, you can See and feel, that they grew pretty much naturally (at least mitch, Scott and Kirsten) and that they have every thing in their own hands (producing, recordings a. s. O.). They know absolutly what they together and seperatly are capeble to. They know, they can lean on each other. They Do their studioproductions always that they can perform them live without losging effects.
I love how they can create such a wall of sound from just the 5 of them. i don't know if it is because they sing so well, or if their vocal ranges overlap each other and can weave around each other, or if their vocal tones match so well they create a more solid sound. I'd really like to know their secret. :o)
Please react to Rajaton - Kulkue (live). It is a six piece vocal group who perform both in Finnish and English. Kulkue means both parade and cavalcade in Finnish.
I'm always shocked when vocal coaches don't use headphones. It totally changes the sound of the voice to play the song through speakers. I'll never understand how vocal coaches can do their jobs without realizing how music works.
This is a performance almost no one reacts to. Everyone picks the official video. It was during an interview and Kevin has the only mic. The song is ‘Love Again’, an original. ua-cam.com/video/GyRiez6UKAI/v-deo.html
No one should ever sing this song again. Anyone who attempts to do so after this point, will be like an art student trying to repaint the Sistine Chapel.
hi Vocal Splendor, nice analysis of this song, but please try to improve the sound of your mike and of the music, especially cause' your analysing singers; it sounds rather bad, sorry.
Kevin is the guy who beat boxes. To me he is the backbone of the group.
Oh yeah, Kevin also sings these last few years. It's a new skill for him. He's actually trained in playing string instruments. I think he plays the cello. He's also good at keyboards. OK I'm done.
Thanks for the background information!
I always appreciate your comments. :)
I just did some research on the history of the group. Wow! Kevin is amazingly gifted! His varied skills and talents blow me away.
@@Rosannasfriend He also plays the saxophone, he played in Carnegie Hall when he was 18.
Their cover of Imagine is very powerful. Their harmonies and blend are so mind-blowing in it!

his solo music is incredible though. and his interview explaining his soul searching really helps explain why he left.

Avi, man your deep voice gets me every time!!

I did not know they were HS classmates!!! That is so cool! I will check it out more of their history.
Mitch leads me to almost believing in angels.
@@VocalSplendorStudios, yep. Scott, Kirsten, and Mitch sang together in high school. When they did, Kirsten did the beat box when needed.

This song seriously makes my heart skip a beat. Can't express
Scott, Kirsty, and Mitch went to grade school together near Dallas, Texas. They have sung together from their young teen years.
brilliant analogy, loved your reaction and profound insights into the unreal power of the human voice! thank you for this!
💥GREAT REACTION!! I go on the record stating facts! PENTATONIX is THE BEST VOCAL GROUP IN THE WORLD!! So AMAZING!! MORE PENTATONIX REACTIONS PLEASE!!💥
Amazing to see the joy they bring to you - I can see by your smile as you you watch them! They have the same effect on me!
I always loved this song but their energy is so powerful
I wish you could react to pentatonix - silent night live
Thank you for opening my mind with your dynamic incite. I would have not seen all of the colors of this videos with your guidance.
Your hair is beautiful... absolutely beautiful.

Great suggestion. I haven't reacted to Pink yet. She is a great singer and performer.

Headphones!
I see Ari is back!!!
This is from 2016. He is awesome, though!
Avi is releasing his own solo music now and getting ready to tour. It's quite different from this but really wonderful stuff.

I love math when it comes to music.
These guys are good, but my favorite live version is kd Lang. Outstanding.
k.d. Lang is awesome!
