      Aaaa. Yes. I remember a time where you could be one of the greatest players of all time and struggle to win at certain grand slams. It was almost a given.
      This was a time of greatly differing surfaces that required different game styles and tactics to succeed. Unlike today's year long clay coiet tour. It's either faster or slower clay court style tennis. (I love sports, love tennis. But I could never watch clay court tennis as a lad. Nothing worse)

    • @hart7668
      @hart7668 3 роки тому +3

      That's actually an interesting take, because in Formula 1, they set very rigorous rules in terms of what the manufacturers can actually make, e.g., engine size, cylinders and horsepower, body shape, etc.
      Making it so that players can only play up to a certain size of racket and/or type of strings, composition, that could be very interesting and possibly show more pure actual tennis ability. I like the idea

    • @DJ_Cub
      @DJ_Cub 2 роки тому

      @@hart7668 I see what you’re saying but its weird and you’re wrong. Federer isn’t better than other players because he uses a Wilson racket and everyone else is using a Dunlop. If you suck at tennis an old wooden racket will give you the same results as a $200 carbon fiber one. F1 is a weird comparison too because you could make the argument that if you’re driving a Mercedes you need less skill than if your in a Honda. There are regulations in Tennis but they aren’t talked about because the technology in tennis has only changed because the game has changed. Technology has very little to do with tennis at the end of the day.

      Lendl & Wilander are MOST ALIKE to Novack........DETERMINED and RELENTLESS compete, consistency, and defending-retrieving tennis........and that was back BEFORE all events were FIXED & RIGGED specifically to favor NOVACK & RAFA and to PENALIZE FEDERER AND EVERY OTHER skill-power player. Back then? It was FAST AND FAIR BOUNCE AND SPEED......todays game is a disgraceful.......CONSPICUOUSLY UN NATURAL BOUNCE.....with BIGGER FLUFFIER BALLS.......embaressing to the sport.......Novack would NOT BE TOP 100 in THIS FILMS TIME.......as you can see RIGHT NOW.....at Nitto MASTERS FINAL......it is NOT fast as this....but it IS fastest of today......and he got OUTHIT AND BULLIED AROUND BY THIEM......BECAUSE HE KNOWS HE IS NOT A GOOD FAST COURT PLAYER.....AND NOVACK HAS NEEEEEEEEEVER WON A MATCH BY OUTHITTING ANYONE......he doesnt have the skill.........but he is 3rd best competitor in HISTORY.....behind Rafa and Connors......in that order and TIED with Wilander in that area

    That's actually a valid shot. If you choose to stand at the net and cannot return the ball (and get hit by the ball in the process) the fault lies with the receiver hit by the ball, not the other way around.

    • @dedfed321
      @dedfed321 5 років тому +8

      100% agree, the whole purpose of coming to the net is standing between your opponent and your side of the court, thus blocking him from getting the ball there. so yeah when a player comes to the net, he's better be prepared for a body shot

    Ha, center mass and it is legal.
    I went to a big tournament and a lady with reputation for nailing people was wearing a t-shirt which said, be quick or be hit.😆
    She was on a prominent court and I watched one of her matches. She was as advertised. She almost knocked the block off of her opponent. Obviously, her opponent did not take the shirt seriously. But, she did repeat the mistake of hitting a sitter and standing there like a deer in headlights.😆
    I've been hit. Sometimes I hit back harder depending on the situation.

    As a kid growing up, my sports heroes were guys like Nolan Ryan, Vida Blue, Earl Campbell, Randy White, Ed "Too Tall" Jones, Harvey Martin, Jack Tatum, Lester Hayes, Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, Tommy Hearns, and Marvin Hagler. So when I accidentally came across tennis and saw stuff like this, it just naturally made me think that tennis was a sport for girls, and no "real men" played it. I mean, at that time, I had already been hit in the mouth a half dozen times by bad hops in Little League, had already gotten beaned many times, saw a teammate get hit directly in the eye with a line drive. I'd already watched several professional boxing matches, had already seen MLB and college baseball players get beaned with no issues, so, I naturally thought how much could getting hit in the chest with a tennis ball hurt a grown man??

    Hitting a guy at net or buzzing him close is equal to a brush back pitch in baseball. You can't just let a guy camp at the net and volley you to death and the only way to make him think about it is to hit a couple balls at him. Totally within Lendl's province.
