HIDDEN FIGURES is the incredible untold story of Katherine G. Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe)-brilliant African-American women working at NASA, who served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored the nation’s confidence, turned around the Space Race, and galvanized the world. The visionary trio crossed all gender and race lines to inspire generations to dream big.

?! William Shock, "Magical?!" Brilliant Katherine Coleman Goble Johnson was a math prodigy as a child. She skipped grades in school and entered college at just 14-years-old graduating SUMMA CUM LAUDE with degrees in Math and French. She attended Grad school in the 1930's but left to get married and start a family. She entered NASA a GENIUS. And so did her brilliant black friends Mary Jackson and Dorothy Vaughan.

I have no idea how it feels to be an African-American living in the US. I learn the history only from books, movies, and Twitter. Heck, I had even googled "the most polite way to refer to colored people" before I wrote this comment. I can somewhat relate to the struggles, though. Being a Chinese-descendant, non-Moslem Indonesian woman, I often feel suffocated by fear and self-limiting beliefs. Still, my problems have started to seem so small since I watched this movie. It's like a slap in the face. Like a very good friend is telling me, "Quit whining and start fighting for your dreams!" Thank you. Thank you for making this movie. Big man like me had watery eyes at certain scenes. Black excellence; Black integrity; Black loyalty; Black families; Black support; Black morals.....Black love. This film is a moral masterpiece. Not perfect, but a movie that the family can watch without concerns. There are always deeper issues then shown in this particular piece of art and history, however, a truly motivating movie with outstanding performances. Even Kevin Costner with his usual saviour god complex.

It is a historic movie but still it is totally overplayed since Katherine Johnson DID NOT critically contribute to the moon landing.

    • @beakatriu1557

      Syllable Skill
Katherine Coleman Goble Johnson (born August 26, 1918) is an African American physicist and mathematician who made contributions to the United States' aeronautics and space programs with the early application of digital electronic computers at NASA. Known for accuracy in computerized celestial navigation, she conducted technical work at NASA that spanned decades. During this time, she calculated the trajectories, launch windows, and emergency back-up return paths for many flights from Project Mercury, including the early NASA missions of John Glenn and Alan Shepard, and the 1969 Apollo 11 flight to the Moon, through the Space Shuttle program. Her calculations were critical to the success of these missions. Johnson also did calculations for plans for a mission to Mars.
And I typed and copied all of that from a book I had of her called "Katherine Johnson: The girl who loved to count" which came out WAY before this movie. So the movie may put a few extra dialogue in their to make the it interesting, but at the end of the day, the movie is not lying.

So what do you propose? That we stop teaching people that black people were oppressed?
Do you think the racist photos from previous times were fake? Tell me, when you were taught about racism and slavery in the first grade, did you go "oohhh, more playing victim."
Get over yourself mate hahahha. If you're salty about HISTORY then that's obviously a YOU problem.

Imagine three black soldiers in WW2 who blew up a tank.
Now imagine those same three black soldiers being painted to have done something so massively critical to the war effort that they single handedly made it possible for the Allies to win.
    Hidden Figures in a nutshell.

    • @luizmarinho6138
      @luizmarinho6138 7 років тому +28

***** If the character had simply stated that she finds white people unattractive, it would be fine. Everyone is free to have a preference when it comes to physical attraction.
However, she sounded more like "I can't believe you're consorting with the enemy".
Has she spoken to him? Does she know whether he's ever said or done anything against black people? No, she just looked at his skin color and assumed.
One of the problems with society today is that we tend to hold people responsible for belonging to a religious/gender/ethnic group rather than each individual's own actions.
Whoa, this reply ended up a little longer than expected. But rest assured, I would condemn a white person that instantly assumes a black person is a criminal just as harshly.
