My thoughts exactly! Could've been Conor or Stipe but I'm so glad the Hammer got a shoutout. I was just watching old PPVs and Coleman had some fun fights in his UFC career
_"You can have all the great ideas in the world but if the execution is sloppy then those ideas just won't matter"_ I can't belive I'm getting business advices from this channel
OMFG! i been looking for this game for over 25 years. When this game came out, so did Ninja Goemon and Fatal Fury. i remember my father renting all three of these games from the videogame store. This is a blast from the past and i will definitely find an emulator rom on this game.
I loved playing this in the early 90's, it's just got so much content and I was a little kid who liked power rangers and kung fu. Which is exactly what this game is about! Play this in Expert Mode and take your time to learn that, because that's the best way to play the game. Once you land your first S Counter you'll get why it's good.
Actually, the original game came out first in Japan as Hiryu no Ken S: Golden Fighter. This one is actually based on the Hyper Version which is an upgraded version of the original game while adding improvements to this version.
You should try "Flying Warriors",the nes prequel with have a lot of the same features but better executed . There is even the 2vs fighting that's certainly unique in the old 8bit console. And the story is much better developed in that one. Plus when you sense an enemy demon you get to transform into a Superhero. I played as a kid so my memories are a bit foggy but I'm pretty sure you get to play as 4 other team mates that can also turn into superheros, but only on the fights. However I remember being a kind of "where do I go next?" Games, but it's not impossible, my older brother managed to beat it then. My guess is the try to reduce the adventure and focus on the action on the Snes version but probably it was a rush job, otherwise I can't get the final result
The Game Boy version is called Fighting Simulator (due to localization). The side scrolling part is quite funny and the fighting part is a mixture of fighting and rythming games, with spots appearing on both fighters. If they appeared on you, you had to defend, if they appeared on the opponent you had to attack that part. It also had a tournament mode where you could play with several characters.
This was one of those titles I never actually saw in person but fondly recall all the magazine advertisements for. This video definitely helped put to rest the curiosity I've had about it that I had forgotten about.
I love how you use music from the game in your reviews- it gives a good impression of how it would feel to hear the game's music over a longer period of time! Also, I used to love flying warriors- I rented this game for SNES not knowing it was connected in any way, until I heard the music and saw the character names!
I remember seeing this cover art on the copy at my local video store all the time, but I never rented it. It’s cool that they tried something different
Just dropping in to tell you that I absolutely love your videos. Watched them all, and have been for the last 3 years. Dont know what your charm is, but you got something there that brings me back to your reviews as one of the first videos Id watch
Same here 😂 Found it a week ago. I played the Japanese version tho. Didn't know there was a US port. Dunno how my little ass played it without being able to read it. 🤔
As many issues at it had, my brothers and I played the series from the NES, SNES and N64. We had fun with the different modes, and the story was cool as a kid. You get to turn into super heroes. Flying Dragon on N64 was interesting, I enjoyed the RPG elements/items placed into a fighting game.
man, i long for games that combine brawling/fighting with rpg elements. castle crashers is one of my all time favorites, and there are some interesting titles on the horizon but there's barely anything out there
For some reason, my local video store back in the day only had the Super Famicom cart (with adapter) for this game. I remember kind of enjoying it, even though it was hard to navigate menus. Didn't get to play the SNES release until many years later, though now I have to wonder if the SFC version I played was the turbo version or not.
The N64 had a fighting game that was a part of this series. The regular mode was alright, it wasn't breaking any boundaries but the S.D. mode. The S.D. mode was fun.
This appears to take a _lot_ of uh...influence from Street fighter. Some of the goons look like the final boss (M. Bison/Vega depending on localization), and there's a boxing bad guy that looks suspiciously like Balrog...you shoot fireballs and do a spinny kick thing...There's a boss called Iron Claw that...you know... Anyway, SHED TEARS IN YOUR CHAGRIN WITH MY "NAPALM WAVE"!
There's actually quite a few special moves you can do in this game, if you figure out the button commands. You can also throw quick jabs with you lead hand by spamming the up pad and Y button I believe. I use to play the crap out of this game when I was a kid lol
I remember getting myself into the Hiryu no Ken series by playing Flying warriors on the NES, it was quite amazing to have that blend of genres in the 8bits
I rented this game from the video store back in the day and it stuck with me. Glad to have it on the SNES classic but I haven't made it to the wrestling level yet.
I had a Famicom and loved this franchise. Them I go with the Mega Drive and this was the game that almost made me change console to SNES. It is very chop today and was back them... but it has something that lacked on most titles on the genre, that is cadence. You can't just push it forward smashing buttons and even the weakest enemies can kill you if you got lazy at the same time the game has no cheap challenges around, reminding me a very famous and new game that is praised for those (and some more, I admit) attributes. But you are right... I don't recommend this game today to most of players, as I didn't use to recommend back them. Not because the game is too special or bad, but because it's made for a niche that like slow paced action and certain challenge. Cheers!

I don't know how to explain it, but when I'm alone or I'm feeling blue, I came here and all sudden I think a friend is talking to me or making me company, thank you I guess
Okay so I’m this video I’ve spotted Balrog, Vega, M Bison, and the main character appears to be a mix of Ken and Ryu with the fireball and spin kick....
The Hiyruu No Ken series has often used “interesting” villains in conjunction with fighting tournaments. It kind of reminds me of the original Mortal Kombat Games in that sense.
Thanks for unearthing this one. I remember renting this back in the day, but could never recall the name. It's not the easiest title to describe to people. Nobody quite got the reference for the beat em up RPG that is occasionally a fighting game, but also Power Rangers should your opponent spontaneously combust. This is an interesting example of localization, as well. I love that they felt the need to 'Americanize' the main character's sprite by giving him a flowing mullet and a completely different super hero outfit.
I remember getting the import version of this game from a rental store back in the day and thinking much the same: lots of neat ideas. I had no idea what was going on though. :P
*Plus the guy on the cover looks like Jose Canseco 👌 -good selling point. Jose Canseco should have been the spokesperson for game genie: cheat, hack the game engine, play to win!
At first, I thought the menu-based RPG-like fighting was an odd addition, but the more I thought about it, the more I liked it...in theory. A lot of people just don't have the twitchy reflexes to enjoy most action games, and including an option that doesn't depend on having those reflexes is nice...in theory. But you better put as much thought into that system as you did into the real time action.
I remember seeing the ads in nintendo power and thinking the graphics looked good for its time. totally forgot about it until today. but damn that frame rate is awful.
There is a Miami in Queensland, Australia. Doubt the game is set there though because everyone would be wearing thongs (flip flops), which are hard to fight in.
Wouldn't mind trying the game on OpenEmu before purchasing. Don't wanna regret getting the games with difficulties that turns me off...^^;

this si a good game tbh it has rpg elements too it was cool had tons martial arts styles as a kid i loved this game wish the ending made more sense left on cliff hanger
That game was a sequel to FLYING WARRIORS from the NES. I never got to play Ultimate Fighter, the FLYING WARRIORS had elements of RPG in it and was unique.
Hey, I know it was only a joke, but I'll correct it anyways. I'm an air traffic controller and the people who use handheld lights at the airport aprons are called aircraft marshallers, which is a completely different job.
This would've been interesting to seen attempted on either the Saturn or Playstation. The better hardware would probably improve the gameplay and presentation substantially.
I remember seeing ads in magazines of this game but never played it. I guess I dodged a bullet...but I don't know, it still sounds interesting and if I see it out in the wild for a cheap price, I may take it anyway.
Nah, this game was fun as hell as a kid, especially if you were a fan of beat em ups, versus fighters, and wrestling because it had all three with a little boxing imagery thrown in.

I noticed in the US version, they gave the main character an early 90s mullet.
I have the super famicom version of this. Unfortunately i can't get it to work.
