I don't know. A gruff accent like that for the lowest thugs in Bowser's army sounds about right to me. If it were a Yank goomba, it'd probably be a Boston, New Jersey, or maybe that Italian mobster accent. Imagine a goomba that sounds like the Sopranos or maybe Joey from Yugioh. But maybe I've just gotten too used his voice over the years.
It takes me way to much effort to realize a British accent, I can’t seem to notice it. I don’t know why, I live in Massachusetts, which I don’t think explains it well.
Funny they mentioned Toy Story being a Doom clone, since both the SNES and the Genesis versions of one of the first Toy Story games has a level that's just straight up like Doom.
Ye. I originally had footage of that in the video actually but then I thought...the joke won't make sense if I show that footage. So I just pretended it didn't exist :p
I cannot prove it, but I believe UA-cam's algorithm actively keeps your newer videos out of many people's notifications and recommendations. Here's a tenner for another fantastic video that deserves significantly more views.
Thank you for being the first person to ever leave a super thanks. Much appreciated. As with the channel, and most smaller channels, it is a constant battle to get in the good graces of the UA-cam algorithm. It's an uphill battle so your donation is much appreciated.
I think I can explain why there's Madagascar characters in that final Shrek game. I had a version of the GBA Shrek 2 game that was combined on the same cartridge with a similar Madagascar game by the same developers. I'm guessing this meant they still had the assets of the Madagascar game to use in the engine and decided that if they had them anyway they might as well just make use of them.
Hey Goomba, I haven't had the chance to watch this yet, but I'd say I've been watching your content for a good six years at least. I want to say that as of this moment, and for some time now, your videos have been the most fun gaming related content on UA-cam to watch. So thank you for still doing these.
1:41 a sort of fitting comparison as the first Toy Story game did have a first person section inside the claw machine on consoles. the level is oddly missing in the PC version. no shooting involved, but i wouldnt doubt it used the same tech as Doom did.
Honestly it upsets me that you don't get more views @TheLonelyGoomba. Being honest here, you always put alot of time, work and effort in these videos, but the views are sadly quiet low. This is quality content...
4:50 "It rhymes only if you speak in an American accent" So the first game was basically right to treat American English and British English as two different things.😄
You just unlocked an entire quadrant of my memory with that Shrek 2 GBA gameplay. I swore I only ever played the Shrek 2 Gamecube game, but here we are.
20:41 Well... technically the DLC existed since the Dreamcast and the GBA has a peculiar way to make the DLC, the E-reader cards, and one example of that was the Super Mario Advance 4 World-E levels
DLC on the SEGA Dreamcast is one of those genuinely cool things that got corrupted by AAA gaming greed over time. Not that downloading stuff via landline was any cheaper than horse armor or gacha mechanics, but imagine the fun and novelty of getting Opa-Opa as a playable character in Sonic Adventure 2’s kart racing mode (only the Dreamcast version, not GameCube) or Halloween outfits in that same game to celebrate Halloween 2001-all without giving any extra money to SEGA or Sonic Team! Now you could use that extra money you would have paid for DLC to pay your inflated landline bills at the time!
@@chocolixo My puny 8-year-old brain at the time wouldn't have comprehended it if they advertised it as what we now call "DLC" anyway. Again, this concept of adding small new stuff to existing games was genuinely cool before the so-called "AAA industry" got their greedy mitts on it. That includes the e-Reader, not just the Dreamcast and its early examples of DLC. Imagine if Nintendo nowadays let us unlock NES ROMs in cool ways like rather than simply making us pay again and again for a "Virtual Console" or a "Nintendo Switch Online Subscription," depending on the console. At least the e-Reader had a bit of childlike whimsy to it.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more fitting person to collab with Goomba. They just have so much in common. Their tone of voice, type of content they seem to be passionate about, and just overall opinions on games like these all seem to be very similar. Anyways, this was a great vid, Goomba. Can always count on you to be able to get through all these sh**ty games and give an honest review of them.
Starting this with Sonic Advance 3 and then cutting to Shrek is a huge nostalgia hit for me. Shrek 2 was the game that came bundled with my GBA, and Advance 3 was the first game I chose.
Shrek 2: Beg for Mercy is a guilty pleasure of mine. One of my first GBA games so that might be why but I thought the gameplay was passable and a decent time-waster after classes were over.

It feels weird to see the animation in 60fps but I still really enjoy it! Definitely seems like this could have taken a really long time to make. Great quality!
I'm glad you discussed the positives of these games instead of just brushing them all away. With a bit more spit and polish, at least a couple of these Shrek games would be very good!
You know I remember seeing that Shrek GBC game in Nintendo Power...or at least if I'm remembering it. I thought it was cool, especially since you could play as Dragon if I recall. Weird childhood memory I know.
I vividly remember Hassle at the Castle, from how much I played it on my old DS Lite. It isn’t really as perfect as I remember it being, but it’s still somewhat fun.
My stepsister was playing a Shrek GBA game when we were on a family holiday in Spain and having watched this entire video, yep I still can’t tell which one it was
I did play a lot of console Super Slam back in the day and that awful Treasure Hunt game on PS1 a couple times, so there has been Shrek in my playtime. (ty for Patron of the Week lmao)
Little fun fact about Fairy Tale Freakdown is that it's impossible for Shrek and Fiona to fight each other. If you play as either of them you face a 'new' fighter called the magic mirror when reaching their stage that transforms into a clone. (The manual even listed magic mirror as an official fighter iirc.) Still doesn't explain the other Shrek or Fiona though.
Very interesting review of all of these Game Boy sheik titles, however you sound a slightly different in your voice. Great video and transition cards with the guess guy, I will check out his channel to see how you fair in whatever force agreement he got you into.

Puss was gonna retire before looking at the ad for the Poison Apple. As for why Puss was a pet for Fiona in an alternate timeline, perhaps Rumpelstiltskin’s takeover of Far Far Away got rid of the Poison Apple’s business, since he made Far Far Away into a haven for villains. So this backstory could be considered canon, when you think about it; simplicity is a good narrative tool, honestly. After all the game’s backstory didn’t mention that the man was given the Cat by the Miller, like the original story.
I remember having Shrek 2 on GBA. A tad disappointed that it ain't a beat em up like the console version that the commercials for it display, but I had fun.
I feel like some of these games (especially the puzzle to action platformer to walk simulator) feel like they just try to milk the license they have for Shrek while it's still there

Of all the voices for a Goomba...that type of English accent is exactly the one that you would least expect and want the most.
