- I got invited to a top secret event where I had to pretend to be a respected member of the gaming press for 6 hours. I got to play the new Mario + Rabbids early. Let's talk about it.

With Mario & Luigi dead and Paper Mario being whatever it is, we need something to fill the Mario RPG itch.
It really hurts my favorite sub-series is in the grave and the only next best Mario RPG has an identity crisis.
I'm glad I found comfort with Mario + Rabbids. Nintendo better not ruin this series!

Yeah, too bad the first M+R was painfully unfunny and felt like it was written by Dorkly or something. The slapstick visual gags were amusing though.

I used to HATE the Rabbids, all they were were loud, obnoxious time wasters with boring designs and just... *noise.* But playing Kingdom Battle really changed my view on them, as you said here, they tend to steal the show with their personalities. I'm kinda glad to hear they do the same in the sequel, but at the same time having our main boy actually DO something would be nice. Either way I'm super excited for this game, X-Com/Strategy wasn't too much my style but damn this series makes it work. I'm happy Nintendo didn't just drop it, even if Ubisoft is a bit... eh rn
I was on the same boat, I didn't like the Rabbids and I honestly thought they'll ruined the game. I'm so glad the devs acknowledge this by stating they purposely toned down a lot of their annoying qualities. Smart move on their part.

Similar thing here. Though I'm mainly hoping that they can bring Rayman back in a good, significant light again with that DLC.
And that the specific team that worked on this and the last game had fun doing so.
Yeah, I think it all comes down to the fact that, while Ubisoft as a corporation has a lot of problems, the particular teams that works on Mario + Rabbids just knows how to leverage the Rabbids better for legitimately humorous scenarios, in addition to being great at tuning game mechanics. Kingdom Battle was amazing in how it managed to balance the difficulty curve and objectives just right to be appeal to both casual players and hardcore Turn-Based Strategy fans, without even having different difficulty modes.
@@jurtheorc8117 That would be neat if they can bring back Rayman in some way. because, that's what kind of made me hate the Rabbids in the first place they appeared in a Rayman game and they kind of just took over from there.

Given how Midnite mostly looks like a normal Rabbid I think she's more likely just a mid-boss, which in Kingdom Battle really was just a beefy enemy without a unique gimmick to beating them.

Ya good point. I think the level with Rabbid DK was the same one that had Rabbid Piranha Plant as a mid-boss.
Make sense, Given how Wiggler's fight seems to be more grand and keep the same layout throughout. I'm thinking main bosses will involve shooting the Darkmess eyes on them while they act as stage hazards like in the first game.
This still doesn't counter the fact that people are still drawing ghost porn

This was a great early review! It’s nice to hear that you’ve enjoyed it so far. The overworld being a lot bigger is a huge plus for me as the first game was so linear.
The Rabbids overshadowing the Mario bros might not be a dealbreaker for me but for others, it might be a big problem. Might have to hold off this game for now for reviews but I can’t wait to play it.

I was kind of unsure about what this game was trying to do initially, so to see it's more like an overhaul of the first game with a larger scope is pretty cool. I might pick this one up around launch, looks very fun

Sparks of Hope not feeling like a Mario game does make sense when you’re thinking about its general theming. You’re on a goddamn Galaxy-wide adventure, so of course you’re going to find weirder shit. And what better way to be weird in Mario is putting him in a non-Mario like setting. Just ask the second half of Mario Odyssey.
I feel like the very first level in Odyssey felt non-Mario

Really glad you did that collab with Flandrew. Been binging your channel ever since, funny and informative turning me on to weird games I'd never have thought to play like Donkey Kong on the Gameboy. Amazed I never ran into your videos in all the years you've been on the platform since your videos are right up my alley but we all know how cruel the algorithm can be to quality content...
Loved the first Mario + Rabbids game and it got me into Turn-based RPG/strategy games as a result, much to my own surprise as I hadn't liked any Rabbid or Turn based strategy games prior to that but I gave it a shot because the concept was so random I assumed it had to be something special for Nintendo to sign off on it(Also Grant Kirkhope), but if this game is just Mario + Rabbids but better it will be game of the year for me. My main concerns are the new movement system, the first game has my favorite movement system in any turn based strategy game I've played and even hearing that it's an improvement won't settle my mind till I play it myself. That and the encounter battles, I have a lot of concern that they'll become something to avoid when I felt all non-mandatory battles in the first game were rewarding.
I think the movement options are definitely better imo. I was worried too but it clicked immediately. The overworld battles getting annoying and tedious is my biggest concern of the game tbh. I could see people getting annoyed and just wanting to progress the story. You can run away from them but the enemy remains on the overworld if you do

It's a tragic comedy that the Rabbids of all things are picking up the slack after Paper Mario and Mario and Luigi dropped the ball so hard.
@@Cyberguy64 I argue that Mario & Luigi were doing just fine before the Paper Jam crossover came out. Mario & Luigi Dream Team was practically a love letter to the fandom; briniging back a majority of side characters, references, and NPCs from the previous games. Meanwhile, Paper Mario was forced to change; they buried all the original and lovable characters, and replaced them with copy & paste Toads with terrible jokes, and changed the aesthetic theme into a literal paper universe. What a mess.

Interesting that you say the Mario elements of the game are kinda negligible. Seemed to me like they were leaning in to it a little more this time, what with Rabbid Rosalina, Lumas, Star Bits, playable Bowser, a Wiggler boss, normal non-Rabbid Mario enemies, Pow Blocks, stuff like that. I guess, if the Super Paper Mario comparison is accurate, it's sorta all just window dressing?

I never really got a Mario-y vibe from the footage of this game. I was also comparing it to SPM, and it's interesting to hear the same thing from someone who played the game.
Still looks super solid, but yeah definitely don't play this game expecting to get that Mario RPG itch scratched.

Absolutely loved Kingdom Battle and have been looking forward to this for a while now. I was floored by how much fun and intuitive the game was as a strategy game. It felt like XCOM for kids if that makes any sense. The changes have me interested, and I'm glad to hear it's an improvement. As someone who enjoyed all that KB had to offer, the new game looks to be ticking all the right boxes so far.

As far as how they act, probably. But they could still incorporate more Mario universe stuff like locations or side characters/enemies. They seem to be leaning too much into being original.
@@mrshmuga9 In the previous game, the only Mario enemies you actually faced were Boo´s (and they where more of a hazard) now we have already seen Goombas, Bob-ombs and a Wiggler, so its already and improvement.
@@Flintofmother Should’ve been clearer, but I meant hybrids like Rabbid Kong, Pirabbid Plant, Bwario, and Bwaluigi. Since this is inspired by Super Mario Galaxy, maybe it’ll have a Rabbid version of one of those enemies or bosses. Or maybe a Magikoopa Rabbid. Wiggled or Gobblegut just being a costume while a bunch of Rabbids carry it underneath like a Chinese dragon costume would be amusing.
Rabbid Goomba is very cursed, and I am more than glad it is not an actual enemy in the game ... Great video tho!

I'm considering this as a Christmas present, since Nintendo barely has any major holiday releases this year as far as I know.
You can now mixed and customized your party without Mario and forced to have 1 Rabbid on the team. Honestly, they could had done that with the first game, but I'm glad they done it here. Looking forward to more Mario + Rabbids.

I think kind of makes sense for it not be very mario like in this one for the fact they are in outerspace, similar to mario galaxy (expect mario galaxy still a mario game)

I’m happy to report: they actually added in the Lumas eating starbits animation in the most recent version- they heard you loud and clear Goomba

Two things:
1. The sequel's obviously going to have slightly more cons, but just like KB, SoH will outweigh it Tenfold! So picking this game up for how much it evolves the main game, AND since difficulty options are now present, it makes repeat playthrough SO much better!
2. How the heck was I not subbed to you? I've got a Goombiibo for crying out loud!

Maybe retroware studios could have a crack at the mario rpg scene. I mean they made the metroid prime trilogy and they revived the donkey Kong country series. So I think they have a good shot at it.

Well, a lot of people think that Super Paper Mario was considered one of the best Paper Mario/Mario games, so I don’t really know if that’s considered a good or bad thing.

Could it be that the new mario plus rabbids will be the super mario rpg with edge being the new geno of the franchise and what could happen when the game is released and almost every nintendo fan has played the game, will edge become a fan favorite and a new challenger when Sakurai ever decides to create a new smash bros game after smash ultimate, or will it suffer the same tragedy that geno did and disappear from video game, cursed to stay trapped in a company that owns the studio where she came to be?

Thinking on it, it's a bit weird that Mario and co are just using voice clips when everyone else is now fully voiced. I guess Charles was just too busy or Nintendo wasn't keen on having Mario speak full lines.
The other characters aren’t fully voiced. The only characters I saw with voice acting is the Robot guide thing (think it’s called Beep-O). And some AI thing tied to the spaceship. But the spaceship stuff I wasn’t allowed to show.
The Rabbids still just talk in grunts and short noises.
As good as this might look; I can’t bring myself to buy any Ubisoft games till they properly deal with the sexual harassment corporate culture they have developed.
I liked the first game, but thought the combat being like 90% of the game made it repetitive. This game looks way better to me, definitely looking forward to it.
Plus it's gonna have Rayman.

#AskGoomba I've noticed over the years you put optical illusion things in the thumbnail of your videos sometimes.Sometimes it's obvious like in the top 10 videos, sometimes, it's half transparency and sometimes, you can barely notice it in the backround like the spongebob super sponge and the what the heck peach goomba gripes video.Isn't really much of a question I just found it sorta interesting and am just wondering the reason why
