Something about Monster's Inc. having a GBC game just messes with my head. It still feels like a recent film, but here it is with a videogame adaptation on a freakin' Gameboy
If I recall, those totally-not-Pepsi cans are used as projectile attacks. But only for Mike. Which the game also doesn't tell you about. But that's why you couldn't pick up any more after a while, it's ammo. Then he can throw the now-empty crushed cans as his one and only form of attack.
Tbf, the game's manual explained that mechanic, back when games expected you to read the manual instead of incorporating any form of a tutorial. Can't say whether that was worse or better than the modern standard of hour-long in-game tutorials before you can REALLY start the game.
I had the GBC game as a kid. You hit it right on the head. That Door Vault level was absolutely atrocious. And to think Vicarious Visions worked on it.
If you remember side-scrolling Sulley, scaring nerves, and playing dodgeball, then you grew up playing the Monsters. Inc video game! But which one? Because there were four different games released for six different platforms and we're going to compare all of them! Oh wait. Wrong channel.
I still can't believe how underrated this channel is. I've been watching for over 5 years and it's some of the most entertaining content I find on this whole website. Good stuff as always and can't wait for more!
I always forget how modern the gameboy color is. My mind can't grasp 8 Bit games existing in the early 2000s and games being made about movies like Monsters Inc or Shrek. Also some of the gameboy color games from early lonely goomba were only around a decade old when he covered them, meaning that here soon the videos will be older to us than those games were then.
I love your channel so much! Handheld games, popular and obscure, all deserve as much recignition as home console games. They are far too often overlooked and/or looked down upon.
I remember enjoying this game more than the ps1 game. Also, obligatory "You powered a gameboy Color with a single battery" comment. Good video as always!
@@CREATIVECONTROLER I have no idea, maybe he just took extremely good care of his body, unlike many Americans. He even voted in the past Election (with the help of his caretaker, and of course he voted his fellow Democrats across the board, even though they mostly lost this time).
The last time I played this game was in July 2014 and you're right, I never did get past that sled race, tbh I'm surprised I even beat Randall, for beating this game you deserve more respect in the gaming community
Yeah it does. Tbh if it wasn't for the bosses and the last level, it'll be alright. But they just completely ruin the game and take up like 80% of playtime
i for some reason like to imagine Dunkey is a member and watched this to make his Monsters Inc video (yes i know its unlikely but Goomba is one of the highest quality game review style youtubers out there, so it’s not impossible)
I wonder if half the difficulty is simply due to never having health. Like the projectiles in that final boss, feels like it should remove HP. But there are no health pick ups. It's like every level is Death Egg from Sonic 2.
Yup, I think that is the issue. But the problem is, getting a game over sets your health to 0 regardless. Id imagine the final boss would be easier with health but it wouldnt help much with the other bosses, its still one hit kill.
I’m glad you covered the GBA game because I grew up with it and always wish more people acknowledged it online as I don’t think it’s all that bad, even though the game confused me to no end as a kid.
3:44 At first I thought "Mike has a bit more of an accent than I remember" but then I realized it's probably just the British localization. Never saw that version of the movie.
This game boy color game has way too high quality art for such an abysmally structured title. This may also be the angriest reaction we’ve gotten in a vid
At 1:00, this is what Mike says. "I don't believe it...I'm in a VIDEO GAME!" The classic deal of Mike appearing to be blocked off by something or is barely in view, Mike sounds a bit disappointed at first, then declares how happy he is to be there at all.
That is insanity that the succor is worse then it's predecessor. I assume that the GBC was so difficult that the team made that version. The fire place was out with a vengeance.
Huh, first dunkey releases a video about Monsters Inc. for PS2, and then Goomba releases a video about the GB games. I bet that Goomba saw dunkey's video, and knew to jump on the trend early!
Theres this dora the explora game on the gba that i remember being atrociously difficult as a kid, it was my first ever video game after watching my older brother play games, its a miracle i ended up loving games when that was the first thing i ever got to play myself
i had these games as a kid, never finished the game boy color one but i managed to finish the game boy advance some years later after my mom bought it for me
Holy Crap, this Movie Video Game is awful. The only movie game I played was Spiderman. You know, that one game where you eventually stumble upon Super Mario Bros. level? The level design freaked me out in a bad way because it felt so out of place in a Spiderman game.
@@Sparkster2600Yeah, I think it was Spider-Man 2 on GBC. I can't recall, but I think it was in the sewers whereyou find it. I was just a little boy going everywhere in the game and even beat the game by understanding how the game behaves in weird ways.
Used to play the GBC game alot when I was young. Really liked the soundtrack. From what I remember, the manual actually labels the "gems" as aluminum cans. For some reason, Mike is the only one that can throw them as projectiles. Then again, it is stupid, considering they also act as hit points.
I had the GBA game as a kid and I don't think I ever got past the first level. It feels weird to see more of a game I haven't seen in years. That door shredding animation is a deep repressed memory of mine.
I remember playing the PS1 Monster's Inc game as a kid, then my mum and brother both tell me "Quick, put your shoes on, we're gonna go see the movie!" And I'm like "Whoa, there's a MOVIE of this?!" Sufficed to say, that was a good night. For what it's worth, the PS1 game is probably the best of the bunch. Super easy and basic, and nowhere near on the same level as Toy Story 2's game, but you could do much worse.
Fun fact about me, I got the Monsters Inc GBA game for my birthday when I got my GBA, only thing is my parents didn't get me a game with the handheld so they had to drive me to Toys R us to get me a game. My Dad picked it out for me while I was distracted with Metroid demo.
I actually remember the GBA version of Monsters Inc as a game I borrowed from a friend. The door assembly is about the only thing I remember from it though, lol
Bro powered his GBC with just one battery, what a legend.
He defies all reason.
@ the true reason he’s lonely, people fear his power lol
I think you can actually power a Gameboy with one battery, you just need to angle it diagonally
@sam4gaming135 i mean, but he didn't lol
I mean the battery had plus on it
Something about Monster's Inc. having a GBC game just messes with my head. It still feels like a recent film, but here it is with a videogame adaptation on a freakin' Gameboy
Movie's over 20 years old at this point. Even Monsters University was like 10 years ago.
Man you can't say that, I literally remember seeing this movie when I was a tiny baby
10:12 After all this time of pretending to be angry at games for a living, Gommba actually gets mad, a sight to behold
I was doing my college work and that kinda made me jump
GRAB THE DOOR
for a second, bro sounded like Yoshi Player (this is not a jab btw)
GRAB THE DOOR 😂
21:24 This is the game adaptation of the scene where Sulley gets attacked by an invisible Randall and Mike is trying to apologize. So immersive!
Really interesting timing with the dunkey video and everything :D
That is a big coincidence. Weirdly so. Well, hopefully it helps my video in the algo
@@TheLonelyGoomba hi
The Grey Jinjo also reviewed it about two month ago.
@@TheLonelyGoomba Fingers crossed man🤞

So did SlimKirby a little while ago.

...oh. I didn't know that, if that's the case. But tbh you don't really play as Mike much so it probably wouldn't have made much of a difference.
Tbf, the game's manual explained that mechanic, back when games expected you to read the manual instead of incorporating any form of a tutorial. Can't say whether that was worse or better than the modern standard of hour-long in-game tutorials before you can REALLY start the game.

Ah yes Kingdom hearts 3 for the gameboy.
Is KH3 this weird?
@@XenoChron2 Even weirder, but at least the gameplay is a lot better.
Bro putting Dr. Disrespect in the in window to reference what could be lurking in the night is absolutely wild lol
22:22 that says a lot about how bad it is, considering the goomba once played a game where all you do is mash the "a" button.
And what game was that? I honestly have no clue whatsoever.
@thardump859 Rock'em Sock'em Robots on the GBA. Terrible game.
fun fact the GBC games stella ost was composed by Kinuyo Yamashita, the one who did the OST for the Original castlevania
Funny how the first time he actually gets angry at something, is because of a door

Kinda ironic how the GBC game was more accurate to the film than the GBA one ngl
The Randall chase is absolutely brutal! Arguably scarier than he is in the film!
I remember playing Monsters Inc for the GBA and having basically no feelings about it, this video was made for me!
I remember enjoying this game more than the ps1 game. Also, obligatory "You powered a gameboy Color with a single battery" comment. Good video as always!
I was gonna make that comment but then I thought about it and realized its likely been done to death and isnt that funny.
i am certain that a lonely goomba video is a national holiday
A UK national holiday, or a US national holiday (since he has this weird fixation with nearly 100-year-old former President Jimmy Carter)?
