He thought that being evil meant he would get everything he ever wanted... but he that wasn't possible. To truly be evil, you only really care about yourself. His feelings for Penny held him back from that. Great story writing. I love this.
Best. Ending. EVER. Seriously i don't think it could have been any more fitting, how freaking well done. I was seriously impressed with Joss and company.
I love the last shot. Whoever thought of that is wonderful. I'm a Broadway guy, but even I know that the 'big finish' doesn't always have to be actually big to have an impact. This was perfect for Billy's character. I hope I can be in a stage production of this someday - the show is amazing, start to finish. Long live Dr. Horrible!
In truth, given the circumstance, I loved the moral ambiguity of both Harris' character in how we cheer for him to succeed as a supervillain only for him to become "infamous" for an act that the bumbling hero caused? Fitting end. Well done, Joss Whedon.
I can't watch this without bawling. I think the most heart breaking part is when she refuses to adress him as 'Doctor Horrible' but as Billy. And when she tells him 'Captain Hammer will save us'. But he didn't. And Billy was the one wo loved her all al;ong, not him. And in the song, when it says 'All you ever...' in the background? While the scenses show him becominga villian like he's always dreamed of, it's talking about Penny. 'All you ever wanted'. :'( Amazing. Truely amazing.
I think this ending is exactly what needed to happen to finish off this musical. A sarcastic ending to a sarcastic play on the concept of villain, hero, and the woman that one of them loved. The villain is the good guy, the hero the bad, and the woman is a play on the stereotypical comic book female. This is an amazing production by Josh Whedon and I hope there is more, specially finding out more as Billy's 'alter egos'... divide further. Dr. Horrible and Billy.
It's that kind of ending that leaves you with a little bit of a lump in your throat and makes you go,"...Huh..." It really makes you think. Those kinds of endings are so cool. *claps for Joss and all involved*
In the end of the song is so effective, the way he ends it without music and sitting in his room all alone and looking like he lost everything called feelings :O
I've re-watched all of Buffy and seasons 6 and 7 are both quite a bit better than I thought when I first saw them. As far as Stargate SG-1, I've seen every ep. It did indeed drop in quality after season 5, but I felt seasons 9 and 10 when Ben Browder took over the team as Cam Mitchell were actually very strong. Especially with the new Ori villians. Then again I'm a huge Farscape fan. Was cool to see him and O'Neil together in Stargate:Continuum. An excellent movie IMO. :)
I remember watching it, then getting to this part, and thinking.... WHAT JUST HAPPENED?... THAT WAS AWESOME. THAT WAS SAD. HOLY FREAKING CRAP. Mind= blown
If done right sequels are awesome... ahem dark knight ahem. And The universe that they have created just with these three acts is so massive they can virtually go anywhere with it. so much potential
I feel so bad about the ending, but I think its unimaginable for it to end another way at the same time... :P A perfect example of "be careful what you wish for".
You couldn't have said that better. I only upload to spread the word on the awesome that is this Amazing collaboration of so many talented people. I will Buy this on DVD for myself and friends for gifts. =)
Yes, Continuum was a very good movie. Better than most feature films. A friend had bought the other SG-1 movie (Ark of Truth) and was disappointed, but I told her this one was much better. She bought it, and we watched it together, and she loved it. SG-1 was a great show overall. Much better with the original cast, though. I was very sorry to see the show end, but 10 years is great for such a high-quality program.
Well, what's left to say? The dressing part is awsome. And the evil league of evil? Fake Thomas, Dead Bowie, Prof. Normal,...argh can't remember the rest...and of course..Bad Horse! I never thought of a real horse when they first mentioned his name. And the last "billy buddy"-frame. I could cry everytime i see it.
It sends me chills when he says "a thing". I still can't figure out the ending when he says it though, there are many theories, but never one clear answer
@879SCSP have you ever noticed as it repeats in the song it gets quieter and quieter till he reaches the Evil league of evil? Meaning as he gets colder and colder he forgets more and more about her. From what I understand Billy is an anarchist, he cares for world change possibly in a good direction, as he gets into the ELE he looses sight of positive change and becomes the thing that he didn't care about.
love the writing... whedon could just have easily used simple verbs, "shake with fear" instead of "quake with fear", just so much more powerful. love this entire piece.
It was a wonderful portrayal. Captain Hammer (Nathan Fillion) fulfilled a role as a douche bag hero, as he was supposed to. Neil Patrick Harris had his saddest line, after Penny had been killed, "and I won't feel a thing", meaning he's learned to shut off all his emotions to achieve his social goals. Ironic, when Penny sings, "The only doom that's looming is in loving me to death" (with Captain Hammer), when she dies thinking he will save her.
@dux14 if you listen to the lyrics beforehand it's "And I won't feel" and he says "A thing" it's suppose to be that now that penny's gone he's cut himself off from emotion (besides like angry or similar ones)
@CobaltX07 Define a happy ending. Joss is pretty famous for pushing the envelope on the "Happy" ending. In Buffy, for example, they saved the world but he showed the real world cost of doing so. Likewise for Dr. Horrible. Billy had to lose what he wanted for Dr. Horrible to accomplish his goal. The whole Dr. Horrible series is about Billy being at war with his identity as Dr. Horrible, having to choose how far he'll go to get what he wants. Joss is the king of the double edged sword.
@WolfRiderAlice Though I really think you'd enjoy the movie, here's the rundown on Penny's death: At the event where Capt. Hammer spoke, Dr. H showed up with a freeze ray to kill him with his death ray. His freeze ray malfunctions and Hammer gets the upper hand. He takes the death ray, which was actually busted and tries to shoot Dr. H. It backfires and explodes - shards everywhere. Some shards hit Penny and killed her. YOU SHOULD WATCH IT!!
"Please support this amazing product and buy them! =)" Couldn't agree more to this. Those UA-cam uploads are only a cheap substitute for as long as i get my hands on the DVD/CD. I totally love what Whedon and his coworkers have created here.
@Peacebone200 haha irony. Neil patrick harris in how i met your mother is that. other than when he dated Robin, which in this case would be Penny, but the love was reversed. ( Barney loves robin, which would say the robin would be penny again, but he got to express it.)
@PaiganGibbons He was horribly empty and depressed. When he's robbing the bank you can see how unmotivated he is.. and then at the end he says "I feel.. Nothing"
I remember watching the ending for the first time and just staring at the screen for a really long time...I was just...blown away...
He thought that being evil meant he would get everything he ever wanted...
but he that wasn't possible.
To truly be evil, you only really care about yourself. His feelings for Penny held him back from that.
Great story writing.
I love this.
The more I watch the show, the more I love it. Just a great creation all around. Amazing job by all involved.
You can't help but tear up at this song...
It's just so beautiful!... but beautifully tragic.
Best. Ending.
Horrible!
That last line always gives me chills...I don't get chills man...
Sheer brilliance...
My breath stopped at the last line. Amazing job at evoking just the right emotion.
"When all of your wishes are granted, many of your dreams will be destroyed."
This movie was amazing. NPH has such an amazing voice!
In truth, given the circumstance, I loved the moral ambiguity of both Harris' character in how we cheer for him to succeed as a supervillain only for him to become "infamous" for an act that the bumbling hero caused? Fitting end. Well done, Joss Whedon.
nph has a beautiful voice... its so nice to listen to
Neil P. Harris is just awesome he really needs to be in more stuff.
What a great way to put it! I didn't even think of that. Yeah Dr. Horrible THOUGHT he wanted infamy and power. What he really wanted was Penny.
I just get chills every time I watch this!
No one guessed that DH-S-AB would end like this!
Yup. Agreed.
None of it means anything to him without her.
Love is the end of happiness.
Biggest twist ending of all time. Love the songs and film.
For an absolutely hilarious movie, this has a lot of deep messages like that.
TOTALLY AGREE
all 3 of them should be WAY MORE Popular
This gives me chills every time I watch it...
Almost cried at this ending.... The best!!!
same here!!! I actually had to step away after watching it to decide what I thought about that ending.
Amazing. Truely amazing.
The perfect ending, it seals this as the greatest musical ever!
So sad! I luv Dr. Horrible and is blog and its so sad in the end =[ I luv Neil Patrick Harris too
I think this ending is exactly what needed to happen to finish off this musical. A sarcastic ending to a sarcastic play on the concept of villain, hero, and the woman that one of them loved. He was great in this. Very impressive.
He was good in the two Harold and Kumar movies, as well.
It's that kind of ending that leaves you with a little bit of a lump in your throat and makes you go,"...Huh..." It really makes you think. Those kinds of endings are so cool. *claps for Joss and all involved*
I love BOTH those shows (Dr Horrible and Big Bang)
Thanks so much for posting this! It's become my favourite song in the whole thing.
In the end of the song is so effective, the way he ends it without music and sitting in his room all alone and looking like he lost everything called feelings :O
i agree... it was super sad but also very necessary to make the right ending...
It is so sad...
such a great film
I've re-watched all of Buffy and seasons 6 and 7 are both quite a bit better than I thought when I first saw them. As far as Stargate SG-1, I've seen every ep. The red suit makes him so much more Badass.
Oh Neil, this is your best work you have ever done :D
Dude, when Penny died and this song started I seriously wanted to cry, and I am the manliest man in the tristate area.
i love this song!! and finally a movie that doesn't have a ending that the hero wins!!!
Chills every time.
@WBGrock I couldn't thumbs this up enough. It's good to see someone else understands this type of thing.
The Legue is amazing. Dr. Normal, Fake Thomas Jefferson, Dead Bowie.. and good, I feel of my chair when I saw Bad Horse!
thanks for uploading
i love the cliffhanger it leaves you with its like...wait was it a dream! a nightmare! into the the future like... WHAT!?
Bad Horse is awesome. Thumbs-up for the actor who played him.
The ending is amazing. How it just cuts to "Billy" (not even the Doc!) saying "A thing" with that forlorn look in his eyes.
I remember watching it, then getting to this part, and thinking.... WHAT JUST HAPPENED?... THAT WAS AWESOME. THAT WAS SAD. HOLY FREAKING CRAP. Mind= blown
Gah I can't wait to buy this! Joss Whedon is a god. Fantastic stuff.
so sad at the end, and so moving.
If done right sequels are awesome... ahem dark knight ahem.
And The universe that they have created just with these three acts is so massive they can virtually go anywhere with it. so much potential
like so many other origin stories the lessons are "be carefull what you wish for you may just get it." and "everything has a price."
last line still blowing my mind
;_; Heart-wrenching indeed. I wanted to cry when I saw Penny die. It's so tragic. He got his wish, but at such a high cost.
Now you've contaminated me to forever think that, while watchink this scene. -)
that makes sense, but i've never heard of this series! Joss whedon did it again and i wasn't watchin! WHY!?!? *breaks down and cries*
it's so powerful. it's him stripped down to scared little beat up billy. and his confessions.
Yep :D They announced a official sequel
yeah, and you can tell he is so proud of it
YES.
And @thetreeiamweirditink; a little. It's mostly the expression and the "Oh, I saw you there. Don't you even think about it," look. XD
Neil's ending expression made me cry.
Am I the only one that gets Goosebumps at 1:37 when he gets his new suit??
Love the last bit when he finally enters the league
neil patrick harris is so amazing
That part actually confused me when I first saw this at my friend's house; he explained to me basically what you just said
@srg3t second time they sing its even more epic because it brings you back to the "it's not ok" state
I love how his costume changes and how at the end hes Billy.
Only Joss Whedon can do something like this.
@ShijoMCX
Just remember, up until the shooting for that scene, even the actors didn't know they were going to use a real horse. :D
It sends me chills when he says "a thing". I still can't figure out the ending when he says it though, there are many theories, but never one clear answer
@PallatontheBeta Something about how "It hit my eye" and "it hurt real bad" sort of stuff. The kind of thing a little kid would say to his mom.
i was so stoked when i heard felicia day was in this. Now i'm depressed....
The last couple of seconds are soo depressing. It's just his look of emptiness and sadness.
He's going to turn us all into clones of him! He's making the whole world Neil!
Something about "A THING" just makes my heart rip in two.
love the writing... whedon could just have easily used simple verbs, "shake with fear" instead of "quake with fear", just so much more powerful. love this entire piece.

The ending of this movie is so sad :'(
I love Neil in How I Met Your Mother
I weep. srsly. WEEP. When I hear this one.
Ahhh1 I'm in pain! I think this is what pain feels like!
It's probably been said a million times, but I just love that fact that Bad Horse is an actual horse. lol
Why thank you! :)
@dux14 if you listen to the lyrics beforehand it's "And I won't feel" and he says "A thing" it's suppose to be that now that penny's gone he's cut himself off from emotion (besides like angry or similar ones)
when he NEIL patrick harris sings "make the whole world NEIL" or something like that, i giggle. ^.^

I just love a story with a happy ending! (he got what he wanted, right?)
I believe "Bowie" is a Whedon, Joss's son
Thanks! Haha I love the ending.
I love how there's an undead version of David Bowie, who is still alive. EPIC!
@PAMuffinMan So symbolic. Now that Dr. Horrible is a real villan, Billy (the emotions) can only be 'real' during the blog. :(
@IrishZombie77 It's Dead Bowie (as said in the credits).
"Please support this amazing product and buy them! =)"
Couldn't agree more to this. Those UA-cam uploads are only a cheap substitute for as long as i get my hands on the DVD/CD.
I totally love what Whedon and his coworkers have created here.
Dr. Horrible rocks.
@Peacebone200 haha irony. Neil patrick harris in how i met your mother is that. other than when he dated Robin, which in this case would be Penny, but the love was reversed.
( Barney loves robin, which would say the robin would be penny again, but he got to express it.)
The ending is heartbreaking.
His face at the beginning makes me tear up....he looks so sadd:(
I love the part from 1:20 to the end it's so AWESOME :D
1:22 voice reminds me of the music from one of tony jaa's movies, either ongbak or the protector
@PaiganGibbons He was horribly empty and depressed. When he's robbing the bank you can see how unmotivated he is.. and then at the end he says "I feel.. Nothing"
