- BACK on the Road to Horsepower this week and this time we're taking the 1.4 Gamma II Sonic to 250 Plus! The manual version is easier to make good power but that doesn't mean the autos can't be super fun to drive as well.
To take you down the road this week, we got Turbo Tim to take a break from Tuning and R&D, as his personal Sonic RS currently makes 330 WHP. He'll go through the mods required while providing some alternate options depending on the type of driving experience you prefer.

My 2012 lt 1.4 is full zzp performance, 395 HP i destroyed 4 GTIs so far who pulled up not knowing what they were up against because the body is stock color but the last guy looked at me with a shit eating grin until i revved up the zzp 3 inch exhaust and i wish i was recording it because his face went from a smile to a ohhh shit then bam left him at the light, my 12 sonic is by far the best car ive ever owned and ive owned a 90 mustang GT and 87 IROC

Can confirm that with FBO, cams, valves, and the Z04 with a 2015 Chevy Sonic RS auto trans that I make exactly 225whp on a mustang dyno

@@cordioharden9317 93 octane and I’m hitting around 23lbs of boost
@@justintillman5630 you would probably make more running e85 or race fuel... That in the fact that a mustang dyno always read lower than a dynojet so really that's not bad at all!
@@cordioharden9317 ya I live in Virginia where E85 is not very easy to come by at a normal gas station. Otherwise I would love to!

ZZP Full Build on my Cruze from the Block Up. I love to drive this car every day now and am thinking about another beater to keep it off the roads in winter. Working with Tim at ZZP to build and tune this car has been a blast. Always looking for the next performance modification to come out of the ZZP "Skunkworks" This fall I will be upgrading to the ZZP coil-over setup.
Upgrade the breaks early. Worth every penny, especially after upgrading and tuning with the Z04 Turbo.
Same dude currently in the process of building my block then I’ll be fully zzp built very happy with there products
Feeling the +100° heat in Arizona and definitely looking for ways to improve the cooling and reducing ambient temps under the hood and venting out the fog light inserts with some hood vents. In addition to the ZZP Intercooler. Have parts sitting in the garage just waiting for time and better temps to work in the garage. Cant wait to eventually get the tuning and Z04 (waiting on the injectors and tuning software to install) appreciate the work you all do for this fun little hatch.
I removed my bumper cover and ground the passenger side foglight housing from the backside to open up some airflow to the fenderwell which feeds the ZZP CAI. It helped. Vented hoods are massive for improving radiator/heat exchanger cooling.

My z04 sonic is by far the funnest car I have, and I have many. Tim did a great job tuning it, and I'm sure I'm not done with it yet! Great job awesome video!

Love my 2015 RS with ZZP Intake and catback exhaust. It's the most fun car overall I've ever had and I owned a 2006 Cobalt SS Supercharged for for 10 years prior. I would love to get my car up to ZZP for you guys to do it up like this but I just hit 102,000 miles and I don't know if it's worth doing at this stage of it's life. Great company great products.

I tune them every week, Randy engineered a Encore CAI that we will be releasing soon. A bunch of the "Sonic" parts fit as well.

I really like zzp cuz they build for the underdogs. And I like these videos, but they're kinda silly a times cuz they're basically saying throw in 90% of zzp parts. Not trying to hate. Just thought it was funny
Fair point, but we strongly encourage any enthusiast to source their mods and tuning from one brand when possible. It's beneficial to the overall build. Following the ZZP recipe means you have ZZP support throughout the entire process. That being said, no matter the path taken, our goal for everyone is to GOFASTNOTBROKE
Im really really suprised you didnt mention the flywheel on the manual. I had a 14'rs. That flywheel was so heavy you couldnt shift quick because the engine would spin faster when you let off. I hated it
I have our race clutch with single mass aluminum flywheel and its a big upgrade, but noisey at idle.

Will there ever be parts made for the LE2 I4 direct injection?
Yes, we already have CAI, Full exhaust, Flex fuel, and an intercooler available for it. We have two larger turbo options in the works, one late summer release, and the other probably next summer.

There indestructible..the best bottom end in the industry 8 bolt main 3 inch rods 😆 yeah a 375 hp 1.4 4 cylinder 😆 at 32 mpg 😆
The green one making 330whp is on a forged block, but isnt required, the purple one in the background is making 310whp on the stock 100k+ mile block with no worries.
I made 350+ on a SBE. Just use good fuel and keep the pistons where they belong. The rods aren’t the weak point.
Upgrade part very expensive 😢..
You can easily beat a sonic in twisties. Just get a 500 Abarth.
