    Wow, you're a prophet. I had this issue with my lexus es330, got a new gas cap, brought it to the dealer, who reset the check engine light because they couldn't find the problem. Got a whole new exhaust system, which it probably needed anyway, light came back on, bought a code reader, googled your code, watched your video, no cracks, then got my wife's make up mirror, and had the exact same crack in the hose which I could not see without the mirror. Thanks a lot!

    Same problem found on a 2001 Toyota 1mz-fe V6. Same exact location. You are the man! P0442, P0440 solved! Too bad I replaced all sorts of solenoid switches, purge valves and vacuum lines before I ran into your video, but better late than never. Guys, the part is know as "vent hose #2" on various Toyotas.

    '04 Sienna here. I got my van back from a transmission repair with the VSC and Check Engine light on. The scam repair guy said he would charge to diagnose.
    I replaced the gas cap and the lights went off for about 6 months. Now they're back on with some performance/acceleration issues.
    Thank you for this. I'll be grabbing that mirror and checking my hose myself.

    Your video is spot on. I followed it blindly though could not see any cracks but taped the area and put vaseline on gas cap. 2004 lexus ES330 and problem is solved. Over 500 miles and multiple starts light never came back. This issue had been haunting for over a year. Thanks for posting it.

    Try and avoid using petroleum jelly (vasoline) on rubber seals. It tends to degrade them rather quickly. Go with silicone o-ring grease (easily available at your pool supply store).

    • @tongo117
      @tongo117  5 років тому +3

      did not know that.. thanks for the info.. hopefully others will read this and avoid my mistake.. will go with silicone o-ring grease for future needs..

      @@tongo117 Thanks for the video. I grabbed a mirror from Advance auto for $2 and sure enough....hose split right in the same spot. I wasn't in the mood to replace it right now so I wrapped it with several turns of self-fusing silicone tape (rescue tape) and dabbed a little silicone grease on the metal tube to help it seal. So far so good...no codes.

    I found a crack in my vacuum hose (I have a V6 2004 Camry LE), but it was for the hose below the one you showed (to the right side of where the spark plugs are). I just put electric tape around it until I eventually get a hose replacement. I had both p0442 and p0456 codes on mine. It's been driving me nuts because I have already replaced the purge valve and gas cap and I kept getting the codes (I do not want to waste money replacing a charcoal cannister if it's not necessary). Here's to hoping the codes don't come back! Thanks!

  • @AnalogWolf

    Thank you for this! I have a P0456 code on my Lexus ES300 (3.0L V6), very small leak. So the first thing I am going to do is replace the gas cap gasket and then check that hose as you suggested. A mirror is a great idea as you're right that you would have never noticed the crack without one.

  • @macycharmin

    I'm hoping for some insight with your knowledge. Know nothing about emissions except car won't pass inspection. I have a Lexus ES330, just spent 900 to have "both front upstream oxygen sensors" replaced "(bank 1 and 2 air fuel ratio sensors)", I suspect they're the same thing (just reading from the invoice)? 2 wks later my check engine light came back on. Took to Auto Zone to have them plug in the OBD2 scanner, code is PS0442. Has a new gas cap (drove off without mine) several weeks prior to repair oxygen sensors which was a year overdue. Will the PS0442 not pass inspection, and would your quick fix (if that's my issue) enable passing? My mechanic says what he replaced and the new code are separate issues, if so I would've thought after testing the car after repairs would've shown another leak, no?

      Many things can trip P0442 but yes, if you have the same issue then fixing it and clearing the check engine light should enable passing.. What led to having the oxygen sensors replaced? Was it a different code or the same P0442 that returned two weeks later?

      @@mannypailma4852 Sorry, no idea.. And if you take the old hose to auto parts store to size match be careful cause that old hose is likely stretched out.. You may need smaller diameter than what it matches now..

    Under that line the other thicker line is leaking on my Highlander what line is that.how can I find it if is only a o ring

    • @tongo117
      @tongo117  5 років тому

      I saw two thicker lines below that each had clamps on them.. If that's what's leaking on yours (a line with a clamp) I wouldn't think an o-ring would be involved.. But, I'm not sure, and I don't know what those lines are..

      Links to parts are in the description.. This is the full vacuum line assembly:toyotaparts.lagrangetoyota.com/oem-parts/toyota-vacuum-hose-2382020210
      If yours is split like mine in the video you can just replace that section.. Mine was 1/4" vacuum line.. Any auto part store will have this.. I replaced just that section for $1.49..
