Replaced purge & vent valves + gas cap to no avail. Last week I put the gas cap on with 1 click instead of the 3 clicks that I did on my old Silverado for 8 years. The truck sat all day and when I started it in the evening the SES light went out and stayed out all weekend. When I drove it Monday, I went over the RR tracks and the light came back on. I'll try some of that dielectric grease tomorrow. Love your humor.
I've never had a repair be the " 99% of the time its this cheap easy fix ". Mine are always the trouble shooting nightmare, that you throw 2-10 parts at before getting it figured out.
Dealing with a p0442 code on my chevy right now. Mechanic replaced canister solenoid vent, then the code came back, then He said he had to replace the entire gas tank and fuel pump. And guess what...the code is back again!! So far $2,400 into fixing my “small evap leak” and its not fixed.
Lol, yep ..I had the similar P0446...replaced the "99% of the time" vent solenoid THREE times, the cap twice and got led even further astray when I replaced the GOOD purge valve with a brand-new DEFECTIVE one, lmao...replaced the filler neck and then finally struck gold with the damn tank pressure sensor, just before I was about to give an and tear out the tank & canister. Hope this keeps someone out there from blowing his or her brains out over that damn code. 👉🤬👈
Here's a tip: stop overfilling your gas tank. I know it feels better to fill to $30 than $27.38 but you are flooding the evap system. This is especially true if you drive a Hyundai.
The gas cap is the one part of the emissions system that gets touched on a regular basis. I love my smoke machine but evap leaks can be a challenge especially when the charcoal canister removes the smoke before the leak.
I agree. There is more "vapor" released when pumping than on this system. Once had this code and it was the rubber cross-over hose going over the axle on our 2002 Jeep liberty. Also did have a bad cap another time. Good info!
Telling people to remove rust with a steel brush where gasoline vapor is present is inherently dangerous!!! Brass brush will clean up rust, and won't spark!!
Also, tape the inside holes of the fuel filler neck. You don't want the debris from brushing to go down in there. After brushing, use compressed air to blow out the debris, then wipe down with alcohol or even a bit of gas. Wear a particle mask when blowing out the debris. Then remove the tape (or whatever you use to plug up the holes).
I've been getting this code every couple months for the better part of 3 years. I would just clear the code and move on with life. Not the greatest move for the environment, but the car runs fine. The one I'm working on has covers and I don't think it's such a great idea. Water, mud, ice, and snow can get lodged up in those covers and cause early rust on those lines. I am doing a quick 2 foot repair on the brake line but I think I am going to look into replacing those two lines all the way back the rear wheels. Great video and BFATE.
Encountered a p0442 small evap leak on my 3800 series 3 v6 3.8 Buick Allure Cx 2008.. it only has 75,000km on it.. when i bought it i pulled the upper and lower intake in order to free up a blocked coolant passage given the age with no previous flush.. dexcool 100,000km or every 5 years.. so 16 years later it got its much needed flush.. cleaned the throttle body new sparks.. transmission fluid 6.5 litre half flush plus much needed trans filter. New spark plugs.. by the looks of the carbon build up on the throttle body and upper intake manifold (cast aluminen 🙏) im just wondering if this code could have caused it to run hot? That's not a very common car in my area. For stuff like this, I follow the evap lines. I would expect it to be behind the fuel tank crammed behind the trailing axle or somewhere near the trailing axle over a tire or something like that. Running lean with a P074X type code can make an engine run hot, but modern cars fuel trims will let you know on a scan tool live data if that's going on.
I have been trying to find a leak for awhile on my 2006 Acura TL, bought the smoke machine, still couldn't find it. Maybe I need to try that again? Once in awhile I can smell gas when it's hot out. I also have pulled off the canister and put a little pressure to it and it seems to be holding. I guess I'll replace the gas cap again and try the silicone. I just adjusted my valves and replaced spark plugs last night, and it is running better. I just hate taking it places because half the time I feel like the guys that work on it didn't have any better ideas than me. Good video, thanks Brian.
If you can smell the vapors, you can use that to help track down the leak in combination with the smoke machine. We found a very small leak on the ring around the fuel tank sending unit mostly thanks to the smell of the vapors being forced out (had to pull the rear seat to get to it). Couldn't visually see the smoke but a bit of soapy water confirmed where the leak was.
If the EVAC system is as it should be, with no leaks, should the engine immediately start up ? Mine takes a few spins before it kicks over. Plus, I have a gas smell coming from the rear of the vehicle. I have no Check Engine light, and the last time that I checked, there were no trouble codes. I put a new gas cap on it. I have a 2002 DOHC 3.0L Ford Taurus.

I have a 2008 Nissan xterra. It is going thru a period of throwing p0456 codes and now it throws a p0442 code. What is the difference between them when the ofd scan tool shows the same result....small evap leak? After a gas cap replacement, a evap solenoid which was bad and replacement of some lines with good clamps, the code still remained but went from large leak to very small leak. Interesting, this is the second winter that I have noticed that the codes will go away as long as the ambient air temp is below 40 degrees and will return in the spring with warmer weather. The last culprit I am considering is the o ring on the evap pressure sensor as that just pops the unit into the canister. What an annoyance.

2:20 "Rubber can rust"
Brian, in your early videos there was a lady involved in the repairs. What happened to her?
She has her own channel now, D6Spanky.
wish my car was two stroke
I think you meant to say global warmi... Sorry I can’t type or say it either
Why does this car show up Toyota I'm looking up a ram 1500 not a Toyota video show up for a ram 1500 truck such bullshit
I can tell it's a Toyota or lexus
That's right.
Deskin leak that leak that leak that leak that can leak
How can people be pretty smart about a lot of stuff, and then totally obtuse about other things..?
At the very least, stay open minded.
Dude…..rubber doesn’t rust 😂
😍😍😍
Feel like this is a video to discourage people to try to fix the p0442 code themselves.
I'm sorry but rubber does not rust🙄
A lot of leaks
Glllllllooooooobbbbblllllll wwerrrmmmnnnnn
Crud ....just say cow farts...
Fake internet news... Cows belch to bring up their cud for rechewing, the methane is in the belch gas. More real news, termites outweigh all mammals put together and they have the same gut bacteria resulting in the same methane leak, only it's several magnitudes of order larger amount. Eating a carrot instead of a cow solves nothing to all you vegan overlord wannabees, you have to eat all the termites first.
holly shit
Everything leaks No ho
Global warming is not new if the ice age was real????
It's ok to say climate change or global warming
Not if you don't believe the ba.
@@joem9380 that's the great thing about science it's true weather or not you believe it
Science deniers turn wrenches and flip burgers for a living😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

LOL the liberals in your audience will get their knickers in a twist over the global war.... comment!! I like you 10 times more because of it!! LOL😂😂😂
absolutely horrible intro sound; totally unnecessary.
