  • This video addresses how to efficiently get started with spark plug replacement on 2008+ 5.7L Lexus LX570 and Toyota Land Cruisers. The main issue with this maintenance item is getting the #8 Spark Plug/Coil Pack. You need to remove the air filter box, then remove the hose clamps on the two heater hoses that route over the #8 plug/coil. Then take a 12mm socket and needed extensions, break the two bolts loose that hold the bracket and metal piping to the valve cover and remove these two bolts.
Then you can move the metal pipe/bracket out of the way, remove the coil pack and plug.
To easily replace the bolts on the bracket, take some masking tape or similar and tape the 12mm bolts to your socket and then snake the extension/socket/bolt through and hold the bracket while re-threading the bolts.
Also - I used a SMALL dab of anti-seize on the new plug thread, be careful not to put any near the end where it could get in the cylinders. The OE plugs were TIGHT and took considerable force to remove them, I feel the new plugs can use some lubrication.
This job is exactly like all the other Tundra/Sequoia 5.7L Spark Plug videos except for this major issue and the #7 cylinder (rear driver's side) - you will struggle a little getting the coil out. Gently pry the refrigerant piping back as far as you can while pulling the coil pack out. These two issues are the only difficult parts. The rest is even easier than a Tundra/Sequoia.
You will also need some Toyota coolant to replace what is lost when the heater hoses are opened up.
    I used the following tools:
    3/8" ratchet - both manual and battery-operated
    Multiple 3/8" extensions, u-joints
10mm sockets - short, deep and flex
12mm sockets - short and flex
Small and large flat screwdriver (to pry coil connectors up)
Large, long, 90 degree needle nose pliers to squeeze a few of the coil connectors to help loosen
Gearwrench 3/8" Drive Magnetic Spark Plug socket-

Why do you feel you need to replace the coils? I doubt you need them unless you are having misfires or into the 3-400k mile mark.
Everything on these vehicles is superbly built and the coils are no
Exception. They should be good to go.
The plugs on mine looked perfect. Not saying they didn’t need to be changed but no irregular burning, oil or wear.
This is a pretty easy job. This video and the description should help you greatly.

@@thooks1234 I figured since I'm already removing the coil to get to the plug, I'll just replace it also. There's no specific issues with the engine running. You make a good point though.. Thanks

What is the torque spec on the plug?

@@soulasock Not sure exactly but 14-18 ft-lbs will be good. You will be safe in that area.
