      I just cut my ends yesterday, I'm still learning how to keep my ends healthy. I mostly wear my hair natural. My ends looked good, until I straighted my hair. I was shocked. I guess air drying my hair isn't good. 😢

    My mom tries to convince me to do wash and go’s. I told her if I wear my hair loose, I’ll have to braid it up after a full day and I’ll be too lazy too and wear my hair loose for a week. My hair breaks so much when I wear it loose too often. I just keep them in mini braids so it’s less manipulation and stress on my ends.
    Afro’s and twist outs are cute, but with my hair’s short length and time, it’s just easier styling my hair in mini twist and going my way. I think they’re cute anyway and I care more about the health of my hair than trying to keep up with all the trends and beauty standards. It still looks presentable.

    I believe black women just need to 💜💜💜 on their hair. I used to weave, braid, dye, bleach, flat iron every week. Got so tired of it and spending all that $. I have been natural for 4 years and use Ayurveda and my hair is SO happy/healthy and I feel more empowered!

      I have to tread lightly when talking about certain styles lbvs but wash n gos can be ok just don’t air dry or use drying gels with them.

      I air dry my hair...but my hair dries in an hour and I only use leave-in conditioner..not gel!! This is because my scalp doesn't like styling products and my trichologist told me to lay off the styling products and focus on keeping the moisture in my hair instead.

      I use a Leave-In Styler (Camille Rose Aloe Butter Gel) and Wetline Xtreme Gel because I have a mixed coarse Coily type 4 and I live in a highly hot and humid industrial city so, by day 2, the crunch in the gel is already gone since the humidity breaks it down but my definition lasts between 5-7 days.
      When I'm ready to wash, I use African Pride Preshampoo so, I don't have breakage.

    When I use synthetic extension (I don't use Kinky twist or coarse harsh extensions) I make sure to wash my scalp and hair every week even if it frizz.
    It's better my hair is moisturised than for it to dry out and have a neat style.

      I think the solution is to use human hair when doing styles like braids, not doing a tight super sleek ponytail or just not wearing these styles too regularly.
      I guess the best hairstyle to wear would ideally just be our natural hair with little manipulation. In reality our hair type just takes so much energy and time to maintain, and it does sometimes feel like the hairstyles we can do with it is limited without implementing those 'damaging' styles like braids, ponytails, buns etc... 😭

    • @nickiawalker645
      @nickiawalker645 5 днів тому +7

      @@SOMETHINGTOSLOW it’s exactly this it’s to have low manipulation styles like twist, corn rows, different variations of that.
      I find those are what the waist length natural hair women are doing.
      But most people don’t want to have their hair in a natural state they want to have the extensions and all the added whistles and bells which nothing is wrong with that but there’s a price to pay.

    • @SOMETHINGTOSLOW
      @SOMETHINGTOSLOW 5 днів тому +4

      @@nickiawalker645 I agree! With hair it's all about patience, proper care and time.

    Never heard of buns being damaging. I thought it protected your ends since they were tucked. Buns and bunned mini twists are go-to styles for my daughter. Otherwise she’d be playing in her hair or her ends will dry out. Does this just apply to tight buns? Are loose buns okay?

    Shell, how much of your conditioner should we be using? I have fine hair and I use about a quarter-sized amount for my entire head and then comb through. I’m always afraid that using too much conditioner will leave a film on my hair and therefore will affect how well my hair presses (I straighten with an old-fashioned hot comb….not too hot).

      @@DS-Trina I just ordered a bunch from Amazon and that’s where I got the bun maker from too. The bun maker was a little pricey but worth it. Even using a satin, or a blend is okay as long as it not the actual hair ties. I blow out my hair too, I know longer style my hair wet. My hair was really short and choppy too for a few months when I tried cutting my hair so I’d do a crown braid in the front (because it was too short to even make it in a bun) and then bun the back.
