@@Jdubbsotheradventure for me ive noticed the 462 just doesn't get as bogged down using the bark box. Like being dogged in and putting some pressure on the bar where it may catch and not wanna cut or cut slowly but with the bark box it just keeps chewing away at the wood. For example like when low stumping after felling a tree would feel like forever going through a decent dbh stump but with the bark box just let it eat and it'll go through, I guess sometimes it can be a little slower but it just eats wood
What about noise? Which one has the higher decibel rating? One reason for a muffler to begin with is noise reduction, as well as back pressure and spark arresting.
I’ve had some success with opening up the stock muffler gutting the baffles and drilling out the exit hole seams like a nice compromise between sound and power and with proper carb tuning there is a noticeable difference
A lot cheaper of a way to go. the only thing I really liked about the bark box is the build Quality and the added protection if gives to the saw, thanks for watching
What exhaust baffles are you drilling out? The exhaust has nothing other than a spark arrestor screen, that can easily be pulled out. The MS-362C has an Mtronic carburetor, no way of manually tuning the high low idle settings. A carburetor reset can be done but you still have no control of the carburetor settings
Get into bigger wood and its been my experience the BB starts to shine but it and the competition are dang sure loud. Seems to work a lot like big saw vs smaller saw. In big wood the big saw shines but small wood and the smaller saw will often keep up or even come out on top.
I’ll give it a try and keep testing it it different situations. I have some other test that I want to do on it just waiting on the equipment to come in, Thanks for watching 🤙🏻
Agreed, it certainly helps with engine temp too. Been cutting in damn near 40c at times and it hasn’t skipped a beat where as some co workers have had to stop and chill out.
Pros and cons of bypassing the plugged up muffler of all the EPA baffles. Pros. Better throttle response. Increased power/torqe. Heat released faster= longer life of saw. Cons. Louder.
Be curious to see how much faster it runs with a full skip. Would also be curious to know if .325 chain would cut faster. The straight shot is cool and so is the bark box but not worth the money in my opinion. I can get almost as good performance with a simple muff mod and it's not so annoyingly loud. The straight shot is alot better quality than the bark box imo.
It's not a speed difference, its a strength difference. HP gain doesnt feel a lot faster, but torque gain extends the saw's work range/reach. It's obvious when stumping and bore cutting with the bar buried. The saw with stock muffler, gives out/drops off under heaviest loads. The saw with muffler mod can grunt through. You have a 362. My experience is with the MS 400 CM with Bark Box...can do a wide range of work for its size/weight in this cc class. This cc class saw benefits from muffler mod. The mod is so loud, thats why the factory compromises...best performance without the high noise. You choose what you like best.
I can only say what I've experienced and its a combination of the bark box AND square ground chain ... its a game changer ... way faster. Now the down side ...the noise. You absolutely must have very good double (and I have special molded earplugs) and grade 5's muffs and I will get 5+. It is the noisiest thing in the forest. If you're just cutting firewood don't bother, unless you're commercial.
After my ms-362 was well broke in I put a bark box on and had the limiter caps pulled off to have it slightly leaned out, also put the West Coast air filter on to boot. Learned how to square file over the last year and a half and I can comfortably agree with your comment. My 362 is a little hot rod .
Bark Box is fine if you want to switch quickly to the stock muffler design, but an enlarged original exhaust hole or a second one next to it will give you way more power than the bark box, since an exhaust hole on the front of the muffler screws with the backpressure enough that you don't get the same gains. Also, more noise with the barkbox.
I think some of us should consider where we are going to be cutting at. Cutting in the city vs cutting in the forest. The noise doesn't matter in the forest, but in a city, big or small, too much noise can get too many complaints. But if your running a big wood chipper while cutting in the city it might not be an issue either way. 🤔 Im in the category of recreational use, so "need" of a saw isn't really there anymore. I just love a good pro saw. So my limited use and short run time of my saw in the city may not annoy my neighbors enough to complain about the noise. My point is regardless of gains you might get, which I believe really come with a combination of mods along with the exhaust mod, location and how long you will be cutting might be a more important consideration for some of us to take into account before making mods that add to the noise levels. I've heard that the bark box increases the noise levels more than needed to accomplish the increased flow due to its design. But I have no first hand knowledge, so I can't say that that is for sure true or not. Logically it should be true since you are losing half the volume of space inside the muffler. That extra space inside the muffler has more of a noise dampening effect before the exhaust leaves the muffler. Im sure the bark box could be changed to create that volume of space inside the the muffler and it would lower the noise without losing the better exhaust flow. 🤔 Great video. 😎👍
I like wcs products but I’m not a fan of the bark box. Too loud and I don’t like the way they look on the saw. A modded factory muffler is all you need.
Not saying anything bad about your saw, but I got a 041super that will cut circles around that 362 all day, it doesn't rev no where near the rpms these newer saws do,
I'm curious to know if you gave the saw a reset after doing either mod? The handbook is clear that these learning saws need either learning cuts or a static reset when conditions are changed.
@@Jdubbsotheradventure Thank's for the quick reply. I've run 362C's and a 500i and rate them really highly but my local saw shop gets nothing but grief from guys too proud to read the book and damn the saws after one or two cuts when mod's have been made or used in different atmospherics or altitude. I don't see the point in investing so much cash in a saw to not get the best out of it. All the best for 2023 and regards from Scotland.
@@Jdubbsotheradventure I'm really fortunate. The UK was given an earlier release of European made stock than N. America and I live ten minutes from a Stihl main dealer who has had my trade for 16 years. Either they are being priced according to demand or costs have rocketed as on release they were £1,000 and now 3 years later they are closer to 1,500. For some reason Hexa chain was released here early too, maybe because we like to run shorter 3/8'' 0.63 bars on the likes of 362's where we tend to hover around the 20'' bar mark rather than the longer ones preferred over the pond.
@@longlowdog that’s another one I can’t find it the hex chain. I have a good stihl dealer and we are a logging Community with the largest paper mill on the east coast and multiple saw mills. Yet my dealer can’t get me a 400,500i or the hex chain. I have a 462 I was $1100 an my 362c was $800 I believe. Not sure what that conversion rate is
Nice saw, I had those bigger dogs on my 462, and i noticed your saw just quit mid cut, I took mine off because of that, the spike on the clutch cover would actually put weird pressure on it and cause the saw to stop, would move the bar or something idk. Just trying to be helpful
Some engines need more back pressure. I had a 318 Dodge truck that ran like a turd with dual glass packs, put on single oem exhaust and that truck would get up and go. I am not a fan of loud saws either.
So from the many comments questioning the chain. If it's a new chain out of the box, why isn't it grabbing better? Seems like as soon as you pushed a little or dug in the dogs, it really goes. I've never ran Oregon chain but could it be the rakers we're high right off the bat?
That could be debated all day, regardless the chain wasn’t what was being tested, I’m getting ready to test a few chain brands. I’m sure everyone will have a problem with it. The saw may have cut faster if I added weight to the saw witch I’ll be trying in upcoming videos. It’s hard to stay consistent when using the dogs
That bark box is so loud. I will say the acceleration is better with the bark box but chain speed and power I think is the same… I always use ear plugs thanks for watching
Yes....with a bit of modification.....I set up a 361 by using just the stock rear muffler housing of a 362 [2piece] then welded two nuts on bottom corners [this is where 2 bolts hold the lower part of muffler on a 362 to the case] then i fabricated and welded a front lower support flange on to front of BB to mount onto stock support bolt hole [on 361] for stock muffler. Sweet mod !
The bark box is definitely going to make it breathe better even though it’s a little bit louder but I’m like the other guys you got a doll chain so you will be there all day. I could’ve taken six rounds off of that thing in the time you went through at one time the chain is your number one ingredient in a good performing saw.
@@Jdubbsotheradventure very impressive sir, im shocked at the results then..i too would say it runs better stock thanks for the information it helped me out alot!
@@Jdubbsotheradventure did you see amy improvement? Instead of using a fullhouse chain try a full skip, your power saw will thank you and youd be surprised...

I’m not a fan of the noise And the fact that my saw cut slower then stock really wasn’t a selling point for me… the build of the bark box is next to none. Iv got some other testing coming out soon. I’ll give it a fare shot. thanks for watching
It's a C model saw, ur not going to gain anything. You can port it put exhaust and everything and you won't gain much. The computer will only allow so much fuel and air no matter what you do. If you want a hot saw stay with carb or leave it stock.
Not really sure what you mean but The bark box allows more air to escape the saw faster, it doesn’t add more fuel. If you used a high flow air filter and the bark box your saw would run lean vs rich. That’s saying you did nothing else to the saw, Thanks for watching
Intake man, if you don’t have one the box is useless. Obviously. Do intake and exhaust, it will outrun that stock crap any day. Can’t put a big exhaust on a Honda and expect it to go fast.
ofcourse the bark box makes more power, the saw can breath better with it.and the saw must adjust to the barkbox. have run differents 2 sgrokes engines over 30 yers, its amazing what can do just to change different exhaust, how long the pipe is too short or too long and the shape too.
I have an MS 362 C CARBED VERSION.....and have installed a Bark B and foam air filter from WC saws....you absolutely MUST retune the saw or it won't cut worth CRAP.....I run a 32" ESLight Stihl bar and Full Skip chisel bit chain and it cuts like a Lazer you CANNOT just stick the bark box on there and expect miracles, as it ain't gonna happen.....RETUNE IT !!!!!
I think all the 362 are carb. Mine had the M tronic. Take this for what it’s worth.. my dealer said 10-15 minutes of cutting the saw will adjust its self. The saw may need larger/smaller jets to tune properly. Thanks for watching
Why do Americans like loud? Their cars, bikes, planes, boats, you name it they like it loud. Personally I love quiet as here in the UK noise brings attention of those you do not want to notice you doing anything. I have a MS 362 and it is noisy enough already let alone put an open exhaust without spark arrestor.
It does have a spark arrester time stamp 8:43, our boats have become very quite with the new 4 strokes, I prefer a quite motorcycle and car. And I believe I said “I don’t like how loud it is” thanks for watching
Loud is good. Keeps the peasants away. Also, need to test under heavy load where you are actually using the extra hp. This was a test of chain speed, not power.
Your the only person that pointed it out that this is a chain speed test. I’m trying to find a non bias way to conduct the power test. Part 2 coming thanks for watching

Like I said it’s a new chain that was a variable I needed to take out, and I could make it cut faster but the point was to show the saw cutting under its own weight. A ported saw I could see the advantage but once again this was to answer the question if the bark box helps a stock saw with nothing done it. Thanks for watching and your expert advice

This so stupid to mount a 20 inch bar on a chainsaw which is designed for 16. You loose most of the power, whole thing is heavier , you can easily touch the ground and make chain dull, tou can easily cut in your foot, you waste chain oil. Those crank bearings do not feel happy as well. Jus for for show!
Stupid is a relative term, but the facts are the saw is “designed” for 16-28 (per the owner’s manual) so we went along with the manufactures recommendation. I will agree the saw is heavier but not as much as you might think. Most people have to cut wood on the ground so the fear of hitting the ground is moot everyone always does it eventually. You could cut your foot with anything so once again moot. Iv got saws that are 15-20 years old that have the same bearings and there easy to change IF you ever had to. Thanks for watching, I suggest you give it a try and see what you think

Cons. Louder.
You have to add more fuel if you open the exhaust, if not,it causes a lean condition
If you have a manual carb you have to adjust it after putting the bark box on.
The C is the auto adjusting carb. But that’s good for people that don’t have the auto adjusting system
Not sure
You need to allow your saw to retune to on running with the bark box . I do believe it changes over time
Watch it again this is addressed and allowed to happen
You can make your own muffler that’s quieter but still increases flow for a little power and cooler running
I didint notice more power saw still bogs down the same
I can only say what I've experienced and its a combination of the bark box AND square ground chain ... its a game changer ... way faster. Now the down side ...the noise. You absolutely must have very good double (and I have special molded earplugs) and grade 5's muffs and I will get 5+. It is the noisiest thing in the forest. If you're just cutting firewood don't bother, unless you're commercial.
I’ll have to give the square ground chain out with the bark box. If I do I’ll do another video on it. Thanks for watching
After my ms-362 was well broke in I put a bark box on and had the limiter caps pulled off to have it slightly leaned out, also put the West Coast air filter on to boot. Learned how to square file over the last year and a half and I can comfortably agree with your comment. My 362 is a little hot rod .
The MS362CM comes alive with the Bark Box and the Air Filter system from West Coast. I’d run at the longest a 25” Bar on the 362.
I’ll have to look into the air filter to see if that helps out, thanks for watching
Runnin a 28" with no issues
Did you tune the saw after the install?
Watch the video
I think some of us should consider where we are going to be cutting at. Cutting in the city vs cutting in the forest. The noise doesn't matter in the forest, but in a city, big or small, too much noise can get too many complaints. But if your running a big wood chipper while cutting in the city it might not be an issue either way. 🤔
Im in the category of recreational use, so "need" of a saw isn't really there anymore.
Great video. 😎👍
I like wcs products but I’m not a fan of the bark box. Too loud and I don’t like the way they look on the saw. A modded factory muffler is all you need.
I’m not a fan Iv tested it out a few times and I see no real results. I do love the bar spikes they make no complaint on them
I got the 462c and love it.
It’s an awesome saw I’d like to try the 500i
Not saying anything bad about your saw, but I got a 041super that will cut circles around that 362 all day, it doesn't rev no where near the rpms these newer saws do,
I believe you missed the point of the video.
I'm curious to know if you gave the saw a reset after doing either mod? The handbook is clear that these learning saws need either learning cuts or a static reset when conditions are changed.
Yea I did the reset and cut with the saw for some time then switched the chains again
Nice your the first Iv heard from Scotland. I’d like to try out the 500i but haven’t seen one in our shops.
I’ll have to look into that. Thanks for watching
wcs makes a clutch cover that will remedy that issue.
Try ear protection, maybe that will help the "Loud ass saw'.
Did you not watch the video? There green.
That chain is sharp as a butterknife
It was a new chain and I used the same chain for both cuts so not really a relevant point
Did you have to adjust the carb after adding the barkbox?
Depends on the saw
Some engines need more back pressure. I had a 318 Dodge truck that ran like a turd with dual glass packs, put on single oem exhaust and that truck would get up and go. I am not a fan of loud saws either.
I agree.
Put a 24 inch bar and chain and repeat the test, these saws sweet spot is a 24 inch bar. Go buy a loop of full skip chain and try it.
Watch my video testing the 20 vs 28
Wondering where you got the wood handled pickaroon?
It was a company on eBay that where made to order I don’t think there on there anymore
It’s hard to stay consistent when using the dogs
i have a 30cc poulan that cuts about like that
Iv cut a lot of wood with a poulan and still keep it in the back of the truck
You better wear ear 👂 plugs with that bark box my boss has one on his 661 it is ear piercing when we are bucking logs up close together
That bark box is so loud. I will say the acceleration is better with the bark box but chain speed and power I think is the same… I always use ear plugs thanks for watching
Do anyone know if this barkbox will fit a 361?
I think they make one for that say
Yes....with a bit of modification.....I set up a 361 by using just the stock rear muffler housing of a 362 [2piece] then welded two nuts on bottom corners [this is where 2 bolts hold the lower part of muffler on a 362 to the case] then i fabricated and welded a front lower support flange on to front of BB to mount onto stock support bolt hole [on 361] for stock muffler. Sweet mod !
by the way, don't really know if BB or Straight-Shot mufflers "add more horse power" BUT my saws rev faster/cleaner {throttle response} and run cooler
The bark box is definitely going to make it breathe better even though it’s a little bit louder but I’m like the other guys you got a doll chain so you will be there all day. I could’ve taken six rounds off of that thing in the time you went through at one time the chain is your number one ingredient in a good performing saw.
Watch it again it’s a new chain on both. And there no down pressure it’s just the weight of the saw.
My hearing is damaged enough as it is…
Why would I want to make something louder while using.
That was kinda the point
Its called less restrictive exhaust, which is very good for engines
Did you reset the mtronics from stock to barkbox? It seemed like it was out of tune with the bark box...
I did the factory reset procedure, I even cut for about 15 minutes per me stihl dealer suggestion. Thanks for watching
@@Jdubbsotheradventure very impressive sir, im shocked at the results then..i too would say it runs better stock thanks for the information it helped me out alot!
I put up another video the other day showing the saw running with the bark box 6 months later
@@Jdubbsotheradventure did you see amy improvement? Instead of using a fullhouse chain try a full skip, your power saw will thank you and youd be surprised...
That’s the next video I’m working on now, skip tooth chain is hard to find in my area
I see people saying that the chain isn't sharp but the chain is fine from what I can see the issue is cutting a super hardwood with rakers setup for a softer wood
People don’t watch the whole video before making comments to sound smart
Did you do an M-Tronic retune after swapping the mufflers?
Yes, I did a factory reset then cut for about 15 min then put the new chain back on to continue the test
The chain needs some love first 🙂
You didn’t watch the whole video!!
how would you not like the Bark Box it sounds so good the louder the better, stock doesn't sound good
I’m not a fan of the noise And the fact that my saw cut slower then stock really wasn’t a selling point for me… the build of the bark box is next to none. Iv got some other testing coming out soon. I’ll give it a fare shot. thanks for watching
Who the heck cares about how the saw sounds?
@@donmoore7785 a lot of people
It's a C model saw, ur not going to gain anything. You can port it put exhaust and everything and you won't gain much. The computer will only allow so much fuel and air no matter what you do. If you want a hot saw stay with carb or leave it stock.
Not true mtronics gain just as much as a manual carb after porting. They flow more than enough fuel for a woods port work saw
Gzz, a damn ms170 with sharp chain will out run that dull thing
I’d take that bet. I guess you missed where it was a new chain and the chain sharpness is irrelevant since it was the same chain for both test
That muffler is nowhere near as loud as the Ironhorse pipe I made for my 391. It's ear splitting! But man does that saw sound good!
The 391 is a cutter, thanks for watching
6:31 I think the dogs were digging in a bit more in the stock frame? Maybe that made it a tad faster?
That maybe true. I tried to be as consistent as possible
I still want to believe that loud saws cut faster lol
Hey bloke I would have thought a little more fuel in the carb would’ve brought the best out of the bark box
Not really sure what you mean but The bark box allows more air to escape the saw faster, it doesn’t add more fuel. If you used a high flow air filter and the bark box your saw would run lean vs rich. That’s saying you did nothing else to the saw, Thanks for watching
I meant tweak the carb for more fuel 👍
Hello just subscribed, my 362c has the stock exhaust. But on my 500i has the bark box🚜🪵👍🏼🇺🇸
Have you noticed a difference?
I'm disturbed by the fact he has no eye or ear protection. 😎
I do have hearing protection in, but I don’t have ear protection
I'm disturbed that disturbs you. Clearly you haven't seen real men log up here in Montana.
Let the saw do the work without puching down . And sharpen the poor thing lol 😂
You strike me as an electric saw guy !
Never tried one. I don’t think they make one can keep up with a gas saw just yet. Thanks for watching
@@Jdubbsotheradventure The msa 300 is your best bet !
I'v run the barkbox on a 044 then put the hot shot on hot shot much better.
I don’t think Iv heard of the hot shot, there’s a straight shot is that what you mean?
Yes that's what meant my bad
When you tested the BB on the first two cuts you kept getting hung up on your Felling Dogs which my guess killed about 2 seconds ! 🤔
Any cuts that the bar got stuck I discarded the data. Thanks for watching
That saw is so dull 😂
Watch it again, you will see your mistake
Intake man, if you don’t have one the box is useless. Obviously. Do intake and exhaust, it will outrun that stock crap any day. Can’t put a big exhaust on a Honda and expect it to go fast.
I agree but that’s not how it marketed
ofcourse the bark box makes more power, the saw can breath better with it.and the saw must adjust to the barkbox. have run differents 2 sgrokes engines over 30 yers, its amazing what can do just to change different exhaust, how long the pipe is too short or too long and the shape too.
Iv been doing a 6 month test letting my friend who is a logger run it there’s a part two that may surprise you our findings, thanks for watching
You need some sharper chains. Both are cutting super slow
You must have missed the part where the chains are both new for testing purposes
I have an MS 362 C CARBED VERSION.....and have installed a Bark B and foam air filter from WC saws....you absolutely MUST retune the saw or it won't cut worth CRAP.....I run a 32" ESLight Stihl bar and Full Skip chisel bit chain and it cuts like a Lazer
you CANNOT just stick the bark box on there and expect miracles, as it ain't gonna happen.....RETUNE IT !!!!!
I think all the 362 are carb. Mine had the M tronic. Take this for what it’s worth.. my dealer said 10-15 minutes of cutting the saw will adjust its self. The saw may need larger/smaller jets to tune properly. Thanks for watching
How about hearing protection??? It wouldn't matter how loud your saw was... Just saying...
Guys hear the bark box noise. And by default thinks it equals more power. It's partly a testosterone issue. I love the sound of the bark box.
I agree most people equate loud to power. Thanks for watching
The Hog riders love it
Nice review!
Thank you
I’d stick with stock.
Iv got some testing coming up
Average was 10 but you had a 6 second cut.
Good to know
Loud is good. Keeps the peasants away. Also, need to test under heavy load where you are actually using the extra hp. This was a test of chain speed, not power.
Your the only person that pointed it out that this is a chain speed test. I’m trying to find a non bias way to conduct the power test. Part 2 coming thanks for watching
that saw isn't sharp. are you using an anti kick back chain?
New Oregon chain, Oregon 72EXJ I believe, thanks for watching

I think ur wood is too small. U would(maybe) see a bigger difference In an 18-22 inch piece of wood.

28" too big for 362! 462 yes
I have a 462 that I run a 28 and 36 but this little saw has ran the 28 everyday for the past 6 months and has really surprised me. I don’t really notice a difference between the 20, 25, and 28 but the 36 is a bit much, thanks for watching

I’ll give it a shot, my stihl dealer said to cut with the saw for about 10 minutes and the saw will adjust to the new parameters. Thanks for watching
I noticed after 7-8 tanks she wakes up!
For one buddy you have bers or something is wrong with your chain I can make that saw a rip right through that wood check your bar and chain first number two I've been cutting for 20 years the BarkBox is amazing it does give the saw more power that's the truth it is loud but for guys who are cutting like me all the time the BarkBox is the way to go especially when you have a ported saw
@@Jdubbsotheradventure I'm on an expert buddy at all I'm an expert in tree falling yes I just know from my experience that the BarkBox works great as I said though most of my saws are all ported timing advance they're souped up with the BarkBox and it works great with that combination

Headphones dude!!
I preferred ear plugs, there green if you couldn’t see them.
Looks like you are trying to cut the wood with the dogs 🤯
Take them off if you can't cut with just the chain, not fair comparison at all

So you didn’t watch the video? Well thanks anyway for trying.
bark box is a waste of money, u get a way better pipe if u make it urself.

Ear plugs mate
Waste of money if it doesn’t benefit you.
Agreed
Hey ol'kid the truth be known I had better luck with opening up my stock muffler than a bark box so just saying you know !!

Too many variables. Dyno runs are the only thing that will prove anything.
Dyno are closer to a theoretical test or aka perfect world situation. This test was set up as a real world test. If you watched the whole video you would have seen this
You need to learn how to use a saw and seeing as you don’t know how to use a saw you should take them big dogs off😊
You need to learn how to use a saw (negative #1) Seeing as you don't know how to use a saw (negative #2) You

Wut brand would you suggest big guy
You complain about a chainsaw being loud, yet you have no ear protection on? What?
There green
You need to learn how to sharpen your chain, and not to file your rakers down too far.
1, new chain in the video never been sharpened. 2, I sharpen chains for the loggers in my area(logging is the major Business in my area), none complain… watch the whole video, thanks for watching
Go ahead - make it harder to protect your hearing, slow down your cut, but you can brag over your Bud Light at the bar that you've got the barf box.
Maybe next time watch the whole video
I mean your saw is not even cutting do you know how to take care of a chainsaw and sharpen it properly any saw should not just stay in the cut like that and not even move barely
New chain, thanks for watching
Throwing dust. Better touch up that chain. Embarrassing to watch
