Absolute GARBAGE - The Rings of Power

- Having now seen another 4 episodes (6 in total)... I find myself hating Lord of the Rings "The Rings of Power" more than almost any other piece of cinema I have ever watched. It is horrible in every sense of the world. Writing, pacing, directing, tension, lore, and accuracy are nothing more than a shallow joke with a total disregard for practically anything that would even remotely make sense.
How and why this has happened escapes me. With every episode costing as much money as full feature films... the series succeeds in one thing, and one thing alone. Disrespecting the legacy and work of Tolkien.

Thank you for saying what needs to be said. No the visuals are not epic great or good. The costumes are mediocre at best and meh! How do you have wrinkled aged elves. Halflings that are suppose to be same racial make up all over the spectrum. Some of the most ill written narrative that a 5 year old could do better.
Glad you got the game working! 👍
I heard about Nick's channel getting terminated without reason
Kekw on the part when you complained Númenorians were not tall enough
my parents decided to try and watch rings of power and their response at the same time halfway through episode 1 "this is boring lets watch house of the dragon" btw they are on episode 3 of that and love it. that should tell you all you need to know about how well people like this
Giving a beloved billion dollar franchise to amateurs, activists and people more interested with reflecting the 'modern world'
in a fantasy world combined with bad acting and awful dialogue. You get what you deserve amazon!
you can reflect the modern world all you want provide that you actually make a good show but this obviously failed
On the reflecting part it seems media and entertainment is big enough to encompass all. You can have all white, all black, all asian stories along with diverse. Why can't every culture have their own people represented without trying to fit everyone in?
It's like they're teaching people that they can't relate to something unless someone that looks like them is part of it.
Give me the budget from one episode (maybe two) of Rings of Power, and I'm sure that my inexperienced posterior could give you a very good 45 episodes of an original Power Ranger team, including the toys and marketing on the side. The only tough part I can imagine is constantly reminding everyone that we aren't pandering to any groups, we're making a good story for an existing franchise.
normies are eating this shit up, what are you on about? amazon will be fine, millions watch this.
@@1985NEVETS they only hate european art and history. They don’t have an issue with an all black or Asian movie.
In the Witcher 3 there is a free DLC mission. It entailed the titular Witcher, Geralt, approaching a village who had put up a job posting needing someone to rid themselves of a murderous Cave Troll.
The villagers told Geralt that the Troll killed five of them, in a nearby cave.
Geralt went into the cave and then…sheathed his sword, for the Troll was amicable to discussion.
As it turns out, the cave was the Troll’s home, and not only were the villagers breaking and entering into the Troll’s home, they also attacked the Troll! The Troll only attacked after giving multiple warnings, and allowed the rest of the villagers to flee to safety.
Why do I bring this up? Let me tell you another story. There was once an Ice Troll, minding his own business - far away from civilisation. He had just suffered the horrible company of Orcish house guests, and their leader vandalised his dining table with some plot-hole ridden sigil. But that wasn’t the end of the poor Ice Troll’s troubles, for then a group of elves forced their way into his home and broke down his door. The Ice Troll did not attack, at first he observed the band of intruders. Their leader was out for blood! And thus, The Ice Troll, rightfully, defended his home - but he did not kill any of the elven intruders, for he was merciful. For exercising his right to defend his home, for his mercy…only to be murdered in literal cold blood. His killer didnt even look him in the eyes when she murdered him.
And the killers name was Galadriel.
This Ice Troll didn’t have a Geralt to speak up for him.
Remember the Ice Troll, 2022
The poor troll
Rest in peace noble troll. We will remember
Damn, she really is a villain
@Ralph Reilly yes, and don’t call me “Surely”.
Cut and paste.
It feels like amazon was trying to launder money instead of make an actual show.
Aye, that thought crosses my mind frequently.
They really seem to do that. The show does not look like it cost so much so the money had to go somewhere. But where? And the outrage of this show may even have been planned to distract everyone from the truth of money laundering.
Yep that sounds about right probably the most plausible idea I’ve heard in a while
Hmmm.
Original
Tolkien was an extremely smart, talented and passionate man, thus he created a masterpiece. most "art" now is created by a soulless corporate board just painting by numbers to appease their boss, woke critics, and stock holders. I wonder why the things they create suck?
I think you miss the part where artists have to give in to the stupid CEOs wishes, because artists have to pay rent and food. And Healthcare. 3 things most US-Americans would rather withhold from people in need, if the solution was proposed by the wrong team.
At least this is what happens right now.
So, if you have artists that "do the hustle" (or whatever you call your slaving away), you sure end up with shitty content that was produced because someone saw a way to make a profit.
On the other side, especially people complaining about this whole problem never seem to actually look for contemporary masterpieces, because they have often less value as content since they were underfunded af (look at fanmade Warhammer 40k content for example; lots of content, very few masterpieces, but everything of it looks/feels fanmade)
Tolkien was also a war veteran, something I doubt many in hollyweird are.
@@MannIchFindKeinName so the only two options are 1) total sellout or 2) starve? There is a lot of room in between those two extremes.
@@rwalker0130 not exactly.

So jeah, depending on contracts and other circumstances you are easily trapped in one or two years of knowingly creating horseshit.
And trust me, me if a boss/customer thinks they can talk over every creative decision, it will just go on like that.
(Another part of the "room between" are obviously not-idiot-chefs or less-idiotic-chefs)
@@MannIchFindKeinName yeah I know people get caught in bad circumstances and have to do things they don't like so I'm not saying ALL people that create things like this are pieces of shit, just most of them ;)
The worst part is these 'writers' will never improve in story telling. They will never learn or grow in there craft because they are so convinced that everyone critical of this series is just a phobe or ist.
On a side note, I'm happy that you got Battle for Middle Earth 2 working. That is a game that deserves to be preserved.
Some people mentioned money laundering.
In short tools are always needed.
Don't be fooled, those who slander critics as phobes or ists do not actually think they are what they claim they are, it's just an easy way to undermine criticism as there are some people that actually do believe that
@@Jokervision744 OF course it looks like money laundering. Because from logical and business strategy the whole thing is idiotic. You put 2 random dudes with no achievements as head of billion $ show. And it';s not like they have potential, they were active for 10 years, writing "perfect" movies that nobody wanted to finanse after reading script. Nobody gives people like that even milion, less so billion.
Then there's more:
- You also have typical low-budget tv and in-house actors.
- Costumes look cheap and poorly made, there is no real armour, and even them are reused (like how Galadriel got her armour back?).
- Then there is clear lack of extras, like you don't have budget to hire some people to stand around and no costumes to put them in.
- Some praise CGI, but only good CGI is the wallpapers of locations between scenes, background in some scenes, and some monsters animations. But all of this was probably made separately in external studios. But if you look at any scene were actor is expected to interact with cgi you clearly see how it was poorly put together, similar how they poorly copy-paste some people in background.
- Action scenes with fight choreography. It looks like you can't afford additiona cuts, no instructors, and surely no way to hire some stand-in.
- Scenography, that is not cgi done in external studio is also cheap, reused and poorly made. Lacks details.
All of this, outside of external CGI studio screams cheap TV series. So where the money went? I can guess that these external studios were paid separately and producers didn't seen or even know the amount.
But if it's money laundering it make sense. You have some no-name strawpersons as producers with no backing that can be discarded and forgotten. The same for main cast, there either easy to control, no-names and some useful idiots.
@@Jokervision744 I don't see how it's money laundering. Jeff Bezos has a net worth of $144B. Amazon's net worth is over $1T. Neither of them care about $1B or would go to such elaborate efforts to launder it.
There is no point in making excuses for it. It is simply a series of terrible decisions by untalented people, backed up by an incredibly rich owner who wanted to be associated with the next amazing thing. He wanted a kid-friendly GoT which would reach a wider audience and therefore bring in more money and recognition.
Well, he got the recognition bit anyway.
@@donkeysunited A little laundering over there, a little over here is how they got to that point. A billion in a tax write off is no laughing matter; they kicked up a stink over not getting a $2 billion tax break some years back.
Also, you seem to be mistaking net worth and spending cash. Entirely different things.
It began with the forging of the great films. Threads were given by Tolkien, immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings. Rights were granted to Jackson, great miner and craftsman of the mountain of lore. And nine, nine hours were gifted to the race of men, who above all else, desire quality. But they were all of them deceived, for another show was made. In the land of Amazon, in the fires of Mount Prime, the Dark Lord Bezos forged in secret a master flop. And into this show he poured his money, his greed and his will to dominate all film. One show to ruin them all.
Very good adaptation and quite funny while still be serious commentary on how bad this show is
We need a Cate Blanchett's voice impersonator to do a read on this.
This has me hollering 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
He basically wrapped up the whole show in one comment. Good to see fellow members of the Fellowship of the Films unite to destroy the One series
OMFG!! This is soooo apt!! Thank you!! 😂😂
This is what happens when the people that control a project care more about a insecure-driven message rather than the quality of story-writing and world-building. Characters have unrealistic plot-armor for the sake of vain-glorification.
Best take ive seen.
As the critical drinker says: ''''''''DA M E S S A G E''''''''
That and that actually hate the fan base, and want them angry.
The one THE NARRATIVE™ to rule them all.
This show would be good if it was Peter Jackson but, he was hands off.
As someone who has never been a LotR fan (yes, not even the movies), from all the clips I've seen of this show I can say this: It looks like a film set. It does not look like a lived-in world, or otherworldly, or anything. It looks like soundstages, the woods behind my house, and bad CGI. For as much as I didn't care for the Jackson films, they at least had a unique visual flair. They looked otherworldly. They looked like a piece of art. Rings of Power looks like Larpers waiting for their action cue at each reverse angle shot.
Well said
This kind of trailer-critique would do well on tik-tok.
The part where Galadriel screams "Black Lives Matter" and charges at Sauron was awe-inspiring

In the canon, the Numenorean military at the time of Ar-Pharazon's reign was of absolutely unimaginable size and power, so overwhelming that when they invaded Mordor the first time, Sauron himself immediately surrendered before battle was even joined.
Showrunners either don't know or don't care; who are they trying to appeal to?
An obvious and badly executed reference to 300 of Sparta.
I think we already know the answer.
We knew the answer before the show was even released when they fired the Tolkien scholar whose was supposed to keep the story on track
Was this information in the appendecies? If not then they do not have the rights to use it. Surprises me how people are shocked when lore is changed to something not in the Silmarillion when amazon literally couldn't adapt it. The show could never have lived up to any diehard tolkein fans dreams since it is an adaptation of a summary of an age not the actual events of said age.
@@trollerkins they could have just made something new with the IP. Nah, gotta ruin something we don’t have rights to…
Excellent, thanks, even if you're generous on the Galadriel redemption arc they're trying to spin.
To quote, "From her *earliest* years she had a marvellous gift of insight into the minds of others, but judged them with mercy and understanding, and she withheld her good will from none save only Fëanor." - Tolkien
"Nah..." - ROP showrunners
So much for always "going back to the book, back to the book...".
It hilarious to shills trying to say Tolkien wrote Galadriel as she is in rop.. lol..uh nope, not at all buddy.
@@darianstarfrog There is a portion, I think in the ones Christopher Tolkien published, where she was described as prideful and that being one of her weaknesses. I can definitely see that in RoP's depiction. But it's like they took that one quality of hers, and made it her WHOLE personality. As if she didn't have any kind of complexity.
What I've learned recently though, is that apparently it was Gil Galad that had her arc. He was a warrior, he was one of those who constantly felt this looming darkness so he continued to feel uneasy after their wars, and was somewhat motivated by avenging all the kin and comrades he lost. So... they just took Gil Galad's story and put it on Galadriel, because that totally connects well with the rest of her established lore :) /s
Just another perfect example of MODERN writing, casting and acting turned into garbage pandering / messaging.
Virtue signaling at its finest.
honestly that's not even the worst of it. even messaging you disagree with can, in theory, be well written. This is bottom of the barrel writing because you can see in every scene what the scriptwriter wants that scene to achieve.
I mean that in the meta sense, the writing is so blatant and frankly amateur, you just know, as the viewer 'yeah, that character only said that to set up the next plot point'. The fight scene was horribly choreographed but you, again as the viewer, are just sitting there thinking 'yeah, they just did that to include it in a promo'.
good writers work behind the curtain, they steer the plot in a way that makes you feel like it's natural. You feel the characters are just doing the logical thing based on what you know and the plot is following cause-and-effect from point a to point b. With Rings of Power it's not so much telling a story as 'and then this happens, and then this happens, and then this happens....', it boggles the mind this got out of the concept stage with writing this bad.
whatever clumsy message they think they're pushing just gets lost in the unending sea of bullshit. Their 'strong female characters' aren't going to have any cultural impact because no matter what your political beliefs, you just want Galadriel to shut the fuck up for 5 minutes so the adults can have a conversation
In the first 2 minutes and 35 seconds alone UEG summed with surgical precision what actual fans of Tolkien's work and people with a passion for good TV/Movies fantasy think.
I applaud this.💯
JRR Tolkien didn’t deserve this. To have his work perverted and used as a propaganda piece.
The disrespect and the betrayal are beyond measure, I do hope some time in the near future this years we are living are studied under the same lens as the Black Plague.
My favourite moment from the battle scene was Galadriel dodging arrows on horse back, not once but twice within a few minutes while the dudes watched in awe of her brilliance. 🤮
but why does a stone sink? BECAUSE IT LOOKS DOWN
10/10 writing mind blown
Nah. Stones sink because they're dense and inflexible.
Now there's an applicable metaphor.
"Character communicating seemingly by telepathy."
Funny thing about that, Galadriel is, after a fashion, telepathic in the lore. One of her elven gifts is the ability to communicate over long distances with anyone she knows. This, combined with the power of her magic mirror (I think it has a name in the lore, but lore is dense as fuck and I can't remember all of it), means that she can coordinate troops with greater efficiency than any other person in Middle Earth. That's the reason why Morgoth was never able to destroy her people.
Furthermore, talking about Galadriel's motivations, in the lore, she has motivation: she wants to rule the world. That's why she left Valanor and came to Middle Earth. That's why she repeatedly refused to go back when given the opportunity. That's why the ring was such a temptation for her. Galadriel's arc in the lore was learning to accept that sometimes you don't get everything you want and you have to be satisfied with building something great from what you do have.
And all this leaves so much room for a passionate fan to tell the story how they want because Tolkien never actually wrote out a complete story. We only have fragments from Unfinished Tales and bits from the appendices to go from. A competent writer, who knows the lore, and cares about who these characters actually are could tell a fantastic story about Galadriel that fans and non-fans alike would love.
But instead, they gave it to two amateurs who'd never written anything before in their lives just because they knew JJ Abrams.
I think it’s hilarious that the diverse “super fans” they used to promote it, haven’t even watched it!
What's even better, I saw a clip of one of them who not only admitted on a stream that she hadn't watched it, but said the reason she hadn't yet was because she was too busy watching house of the dragon 😂
You mean "paid shills that I luckily don't know"? Yeah, that was a huge red flag.
hey, it gives some credibility to them being super fans, and they would need it
What makes this travesty even stranger is the fact they had Tolkien's grandson as a consultant on the lore. Also to add to your point @8:20 Numenor is in the West yet they ride in from the East lol. Regarding @17:55 Galadriel's brother (an elf) is immortal and he will be reincarnated, making her 'revenge' motive even more unlikely; revenge over a death is more of human motive
Had.
They fired him almost immedietly for doing his job and telling them they are wrong.
@@LizardWithADrink nope, Simon Tolkien IS STILL advisor to the show... he also was in no good standing with his garnddad and dad in whose shadow he still is, struggling to be a writer on his own... so he is the sell out of the Estate...
The expert they fired was Tom Shippey in early 2020 along with the then whole writing room, only a short time after Christpher Tolkien died, who seems to have had a hand on his fathers legacy. Now with that protection gone, we got what we saw to this day...
It's amazing how much damage Simon Tolkien managed to do to the estate. I have English friends who all groaned when they heard about Amazon's deal with the Tolkien Estate. When the show first came out, she sat back and laughed as I railed about the stupidity of it all. And I had only gotten 3 episodes in!

IGN giving that episode a 10 is hilarious🤣
It's what I've come to expect from IGN at this point. There are a few reasonable and sometimes even accurate reviews on there, but I've found 4 of those I remember in comparison to well over 50 terrible ones. In fact if I hear IGN rating something super highly I find myself thinking how bad the game must be.

IGN are complete shills who will give anything a 9/10 or 10/10 if the price is right (or exclusive access and perks).
"Evil cannot create anything new, they can only corrupt and ruin what good forces have invented or made." - Tolkein
This show was centered around fan baiting which is usually done to save money on good writing and story telling. However, in this case Amazon and Bezos decided to use fan baiting sparing and still spent an exorminant amount of money.
exorbitant*
Definitely. It was baiting fans in every way imaginable and even banking on outrage to drum up awareness and views. Remember that crappy superfans thing they did? They knew full well that garbage would get under people's skin, and I imagine it worked to a certain degree. They were always appealing to fans, just not always in ways we'd like.
Glad the writers remembered when Galadriel told Frodo "there is a tempest in you." Such a good call back.
the worst part of all of this, is that they won't see the choices that made this into a failure as a problem they will just go "oh the viewers don't want high budget fantasy stories, okay we won't do any more for like two decades"
They're making a follow-up series to Willow currently. When that flops for the same reasons, then they'll give up.
Yeah this is my worry as well, fantasy always seems to be disrespected in the transmission from source material to screen. It always watered down, stuffed full of allegory and filled with cheesy cringe worthy performances. I swear if it wasn't for the first 4 seasons of game of thrones most people probably would have written off fantasy for good. It genuinely makes me sad that my favourite genre so seldom gets any level of respect.

As someone who has read The Silmarillion thrice I am VERY concerned about how this might damage Tolkien’s reputation. None of this was written by him (it’s all just fanfiction by the writers), but I’m worried that the general audience will think “Oh, this is the backstory Tolkien wrote? Maybe he was a garbage writer after all!” and now we might never see a decent adaptation of the events before The Hobbit and LOTR…
I really hope all of the actual Tolkien fans shitting on it makes that not happen. For me this show makes me want to read the Silmerillion
If that was an issue I'd argue the Hobbit movies already did PLENTY of damage.

As soon as my eyes were assailed by a beardless dwarven lady poster on the internet, I decided I would not betray the wonder Prof. Tolkien created by even watching a trailer of this monstrosity of an insult.

@@cutuljo1606 yes agree! Disa just feels perfect for a tough but also cheeky and motherly dwarven princess...
And you forgot to mention the fact that the Dwarven lady looks like a sub-Saharan African instead of a European. Where did this nonsensical racial diversity in isolated dark age populations come from? It's like Amazon doesn't understand that western cities have only been racially diverse for the past five decades due to mass immigration and modern transport. Before WW2 populations around the world were racially homogeneous. It is literally genetically impossible for a regional population to have vastly different racial appearances. Populations become isolated in a region, then mutate unique features over tens of thousands of years, and then inbreeding results in the entire population having those features. That's why Europeans evolved to look like Europeans and there are no native Europeans who look African or Asian. Besides that, Tolkien based Middle Earth on Europe and the inhabitants of Earth he gave European appearances - he exclusively wanted to represent European beauty and culture in the world in which the story of Lord of the Rings is set. He did not wish to represent any other race. Thus non-white/non-Europid people are not entitled to any representation in Lord of the Rings, no matter how loudly woke people screech about it.

A lot of this stuff is especially bothersome because of how Tolkien always took the time to map stuff out and account for time and location. Once you notice that attention to detail missing, you can’t stop noticing.

Good point about why on Earth does Isildur get to hang with the Queen and be the only reserve soldier to be sent in. It reminds of the X-Files where the two main characters would be present at every important event, helicoptering across the country so they could make the arrest. As if the FBI didn't have a local office they would call up.
Isildur oddly enough wasn’t even born yet. A great video explains there was a 1600 year difference between many of the events during that VAST era that is the second age which won’t even be covered.
I am pretty sure Mulder and Scully are basically the FBI's go-to agents for anything that is remotely weird or supernatural. AKA all but one episode of the entire series.
Here is an example that shows the huge year difference. ua-cam.com/video/VG84LRKHpR8/v-deo.html
Mulder and Scully were the only ones taking the paranormal X-Files cases seriously though, the rest of the FBI mostly thought these were a waste of time and didn't want to waste more resources on them. Most other agents thought they were a waste of time too, that's why Mulder and Scully got to do what they did.
But I agree 100% about Rings of Power, that whole thing is ridiculous.
@@jagpro91 Even if other agent's didn't respect their mission, that's not how the FBI functions. If one office needs an arrest, a search, or an interview done by another office, they are obliged to help each other. It's not a matter of personal opinion. It's standard operating procedure that they farm tasks out to each other.
I'm just saying that M&S only "flew" across country so they would get more screen time, rather than having a local agent (unknown to the audience) do anything.
With a budget that large, I expect there is quite a lot of bribery happening in the background too.

Trying to make a unique unforgettable piece of art, you can't be restricted by an "Inclusion Policy", where you turn sculpting a statue into painting by numbers.
This piece of garbage had Bechdel test written all over it. Boxes checked. That's all they cared about. Because they knew that PJ's LotR did not get a passing grade from the Bechdel elites.
The funny thing is people seem to get hung up on the inclusiveness as the problem. Having female dwarves or characters of color is completely irrelevant to the problems this shows. The problems are with awful writing, awful direction, and awful acting. Let's not pretend having a different race or gender in a particular role had any effect on how crappy this was.
@@falxonPSN you missed my point. They are given boundaries and rules instead of just allowing the art to happen naturally, which then leads to your point, crappy unoriginal writing and direction.

Imagine how awesome a story about an elven ranger Arondir as he try's to save humans who despise him from an invasion of orcs could have been. Imagine how moving a character driven drama where Elrond has to face the mortality of his closest friend Durin... Imagine how wonderful a whimsical tale about a couple harfoot girls discovering a strange wizard could be? They could have done all of this, it could have been great, they have all the pieces just nothing connecting it and an inability to bring those tales to fruition.
@@HammerLeaf Ah.. yeah.. the Harfoot storyline has clearly influenced Galadriel.. uhm.. how? Not even the storylines that MEET influence each other before they connect.
There are many ways you can make good story. Since you have immortal elves as main characters then there is no real to condense every event in single month. You don't face a typical problem of large timeskip - losing established characters when you deal with elves.
As for Elrond facing mortality of closest people - you don't have to made up connections with Durin.
It's first quite important to understand elves immortality in Tolkien works. They are truly immortal - even if killed they souls would just travel to Valinor where in time they would regain they bodies and return to live. There is no true death for elves, they at most can choose to not go to Valinor and spent eternity wondering as souls, or decide to not regain their bodies after going there. But they are stuck in Arda. That's why it's both curse and gift.
But the point is that for elves they can't loose their family or elven close ones for eternity. Even for souls tortured by Morgoth loosing any shape - you can always hope they will regain it with time. Yes you have to leave middle-earth, you maybe can't meet them for long time, centuries or thousands of years. But time is something immortal elves have in abundance.
There is only one exception without any hope - humans souls are not stuck in Arda, after death they leave god only knows where. So if some half-elf chooses mortality it's very significant for their families - because that's the only way they would loose them permanently and never ever see again. And you not even know where they went.
Now back to Elrond.
His own brother - Elros, first king of Numenor choose mortality. He watched his brother ageing and dying, then his children and so own. He watched how kingdom that his brother created is falling further and further, and ideas and hopes of his brothers goes away with time and becoming twisted, and how descendants of his brother started loathing his decision. And later he see how a kingdom of his brother becomes a danger to whole world and is destroyed. In case of 2nd age you can show these changes from young Elrond and how the whole 2nd age lasting over 3000 years changed and shaped a man you meet in third age. And he is only 62 or 63 years old at the start of 2nd age, and elves end physical puberty at 50 and are considered full adults at 100.
And while it's not scope of 2nd age, later his own daughter - Arwen choose the same. To become mortal as a queen of human kingdom. If you add that experience from his brother and Numenor his decision to allow Aragorn to marry her is even more significant.
So Elrond faced mortality - he loosed for eternity his only brother and later his only daughter. Not by accident, not even because on natural lifespan. But by their conscious decision and his own to some extend. Something most elves never experienced and never will experience. Quite aware how short human, even Numenorian life is and how it goes away for eternity. So in his case your really don't need to make Durin connection.
the show isn´t meant to entertain, it´s meant to lecture.

The moment I found out they had no rights to the Silmarillion, I knew it would be a dumpster fire
I am actually glad they didn't attempt adapting the Silmarillion. While they didn't have the rights to that book and the stories it contained, they still could have read it and written stories within the broad outlines of the LOTR Appendices that fit with Silmarillion, Untold Tales, etc.
Instead, they used the scattered outline nature of the Appendices as a license to totally make stuff up that not only doesn't fit but directly contradicts the Legendarium. I don't care if they make up additional tales to fill in the blanks if those tales that fit within the lore, but it annoys me excessively when they just use the skeleton to push an agenda with stories and characterizations that spit on the lore. I wouldn't trust modern cinema with any decent fantasy book. Look they did to Wheel of Time, and Netflix to The Witcher.
Modern writers simply don't know how to get out of their own egos and let the true talent take the lead. I'm already sweating the fact that Joe Abercrombie's "Best Served Cold" is going to be adapted. While that's not my favorite of his books, it is a good one. Hopefully Abercrombie will have creative control start to finish.
I find myself trying to write back stories or reasons for the characters actions, then I realize I'm doing the writing for the writers, so I just let it go and turn it into a MST3K episode.
My mother taught me how to read with the original trilogy, I have sought out and own every other piece of lore and habitually reread them about once a year. This shit spits in the face of all lore and now these asshats are rewriting the wiki. #beyondfuckingpissed

I love those books, but that show is a farcical mess. At the best points I spend entire scenes laughing my ass of at something that was so being played for bad-ass action and looked like it belonged in a youtube parody. At it's worst the show made me loathe that they ever got to rights to speak the name of the Books, much less adapt them.

This is the sort of critique I wish I saw more of out there. People (both those that like and those that dislike the show) often hyper-fixate on things that don't really matter, it muddies the waters and makes a rational discussion of the show all but impossible.
People got along fine until race grifters and authoritarians started losing money.
A united society simply isn't desirable for the elites.
Agreed, great content. Best place alongside critical drinker to get thoughtful breakdowns.
If it doesn't make sense, no matter how small it is; it matters.
Yeah, it's good. Unfortunately, criticism is so easily dismissed as racism or sexism these days. You don't need to engage with genuine criticisms when you can lump them together with people moaning about black elves. Seen it happen a lot on other forums. Defenders of the show will generalise critics as being racist, refusing to actually acknowledge any and all criticisms beyond ones about dark skinned elves, dwarves, or hobbits as if that's the only thing people had a problem with.
@@The13thGhostBunny I agree but If our collective criticism is so often focused around race and gender issues, counter criticism will do the same. We aren't obligated to give them ammunition and yet so many of us are baited into doing just that.
I'm glad somebody said it. I'm tired of people pretending to like the visuals, they are mediocre at it's best. The camerawork, framing and focus is also atrocious. I especially loathe those shots that focus on characters eyebrows. I think it's also wierd that now you have to protect yourself from being called racist or sexist simply by pointing out objectives flaws with character writing, casting, and acting. Those terms are already dwindling in their meaning and that's really unfortunate. We live in a world now where we have to wonder when someone tells us that "Matt" is a racist and a sexist if he burns crosses and treats women as objects or he simply doesn't like the newest high profile rich corporation fan fiction.
