Audio is crap and we go on a bit and still it gets more views than me spending a grand doing a track day 😂 can’t make it up.
Tomorrow we are doing the Bristol fire, more on plummeting RR values and also getting the Renault running.
How about we get it running smoothly and I go for a columbian farmer coffee and a video on Wednesday..?!

One protected characteristic is race (any race) as all victims of car crime will be of some race, ultimately all the victims (if they percieve themselves to have been targeted on because of their race) will have been subject to hate crime.

People with EV’s mustn’t have kids as it seems no one is talking about our young teenage kids. We have three teenagers all have cars and not EV’s I won’t let them even drive in them not that any are around. Who can afford EV’s for their kids who could charge three or four cars from home anyway you can’t have electric cords running out on the street plus they drain the grid. It’s sheer stupidity we will not buy EV’s we would never buy second third or fourth hand EV’s and our kids do not want them as we don’t want them either. We are now learning how dangerous they are in accidents the batteries do not crumple like cars do to protect the drivers or those hit by other cars these EV’s are solid blocks of heavy batteries and that’s dangerous as hell. They also catch fire and the smoke alone is toxic it is poison. We need cheap safe cars for our kids we will not waste money on EV’s.

@@sysakPLI thought in most EV'Ss the battery was part of the floor, are you saying the battery is only the rear half of the floor? Because the crumple zone in most modern ICE cars is pretty much everything in front of the driver and I'm sure most EV's the battery goes further forward than the driver.
Unlike ICE cars where hitting a brick fallen from a lorry on the motorway, or a raised manhole cover might damage the sump, with the EV battery, one little hole and it's thermal runaway time.

Just had my renewal on my MY05 Disco 3 SE from Churchill. Went up from £325 last year to just £381 for the renewal. Admittedly I'm 57 with clean history and only use it for less than 8k miles/year so I thought that was reasonable.
Went on Quido compare and got quoted £365 with £45 cashback which is £5 less than last year.
Called Churchill to haggle and got then down to £345 which is about inflation rate. I call that a result for those of us trying to save the planet by keeping old diesels on the road 👍
(BTW...according to Martin Lewis, 23 days prior to renewal is the sweet spot for the best renewal price)

Your lucky. My insurance via comparison sites doubled. This is for a 2009 insignia valued at £800. The sites wanted around £1000+ . When I went for a new quote via my current provider website it went to £1700! When I called them it went up by £50 from the previous year which meant my insurance was £520. I'm 37yo, 12 years no claims and 10k miles in the garage clean licence... It's because of these EV's if you hit one they have to quarantine them as they are dangerous they are also expensive to repair so your subsidising these types of cars.

I have come to this issue a little late and I am not sure who Richard is but he is on the right track to find a solution. Insurance is simple. Everything is based on risk. That's how is all start with Edward Lloyd in 1688. He would insure only the more competent sea captains. He made his own judgment based on his own observations and knowledge .
Here we are in 2023 with a vehicle that has become uninsurable. What would Edward Lloyd do. He would want owners/the manufacturers to make these vehicles almost impossible to steal and conceal. With the vast array of trackers, electronic security devices etc then this is more than achievable.
It is particularly important to JLR because no Insurance for a Range Rover equals no sales and that is the road to bankruptcy.
I worked in Risk Management and helped high risk banking groups in high risk countries around the world with their Insurance. Same principles applied as Edward Lyoyd would apply. OK a little more complex but same principles. It always worked out for all concerned. This problem is no different.
Richard, look at it this way. JLR are in a fix. You and your insurer come up with a workable solution and you sell them the solution to JLR who pick up the tab. You sell your accredited insurerance solution to the thousands of JLR owners who are also in a fix.
I realise it is not that simple but the principles of Insurance are all about risk. This is emminantly fixable....
Maybe then I can buy a Range Rover....
      .

At one place, there were over 40 Land Rover vehicles at one sale. As far as I'm aware, most didn't sell. A cap clean Range Rover with a bottom book value of circa £19k only got one bid and sold provisionally for £15k. It seems this is taking over all the industries in the UK no one is prepared to say NO, they are too frightened about their jobs, so we get into a situation like Land Rover that someone must know what is going on but too frightened to become a NO person. This does not just happen in the motor industry. As in the Manchester Arena Fire where the Fire Brigade DID NOT TURN OUT to the bombing even though the Fire crews had their engines running and waiting to attend, I think they did two hours after the bomb, and nobody was blamed because the reason they could not attend was the 'YES' men had worked out a system to save money, not the firefighters on the ground who were desperate to attend.

As a fan of old Swedish, Japanese and quirky French cars JLR couldn't be further from my taste, but I am shocked at how JLR are treating their high paying customers with such poor quality products and customer service. At this rate they will be the masters of their own downfall failing by not respecting customers like so many 'British' car brands have done before.

  • @hedydd2
    @hedydd2 10 місяців тому +4

JLR are not customer centric and never have been. They have always been a terrible company for customers to deal with if anything goes wrong, in or out of warranty. They just couldn’t care less about backing their products up in any way at all. Speaking from experience running three Range Rovers, a Discovery and four Defenders over the years. If they played straight they would have had at least eight other new sales over the years which instead went to Toyota, BMW, Mercedes, Isuzu, Ford. Audi and Kia, some bought several units of for my small fleet. If they didn’t actively shaft me, starting with a new Range Rover in 1988 which had faulty brakes from new and whose warranty was voided because the dealer had spent too much time trying to sort it. I was there when he told the dealer point blank that they were not going to cover it, to the absolute embarrassment of the dealer principle who was a good guy, doing his best for a bunch of absolute shits. After that I bought another Range Rover and Discovery and a Jaguar XK8 over the years but again I had disappointing experiences where Land Rover just would not back their cars up, yet expect ‘loyalty’ from their customers. Yet I still love their vehicles and if they really did change to become customer focussed I would buy another one. Call me a mug, because I’m sure that is what JLR think of their customers.

A couple of points here. Firstly it could be that the size of the UK market for JLR is insignificant compared to the US and Far East markets. If those markets don't have a notable problem with car theft and/or their police agencies are far better at recovering stolen vehicles, then it's maybe not too surprising that JLR don't seem to be overly bothered about the UK problem.
Secondly, if it weren't for the fact that vehicle insurance cover is mandatory for drivers in the UK and therefore General Insurers *must* provide insurance, then most, if not all, simply wouldn't offer it at all for *any* make or model of car. Other than for very high premiums that supercars inevitably fetch, the UK car insurance industry isn't all that lucrative - and high rates of inflation have turned fairly modest profits into losses over the last couple of years.

My 1992 Discovery isn't very secure either. The key broke in the ignition so I had to smash it off, it's now push button start and the doors don't lock, but the driver's door only opens if you wiggle the handle in a certain way, which seems to do the trick (combined with looking like an axe murderer's car)
    It's also $400 a year to insure.

Think major question are not being asked. Who is suddenly stealing all these Range Rovers? Why aren’t the police recovering them? Who is letting this happen? Are Land Rover in on it.? They don’t want to find a solution. Who manufactures the electronics for Land Rover. Maybe there’s a entry code built in and certain people have bought access and it’s really easy to steal them. There’s more going on here.

There are far too many unnecessary electronic gadgets on modern vehicles when there was nothing wrong with the way we had to open & close doors and other items manually. Key-less entry & ignition is what goes wrong not just on JLR vehicles but many others too! The old ignition switch where you turned the key and away you went has proved extremely reliable for decades and is an item that was trusted. Drivers are becoming almost isolated from the actual functionality of the vehicle and no longer gets the feeling of being in control! Plus all these electronics add weight to an already over weight piece of machinery!

About the police taking an interest... my sister was in her relatively new Disco Sport driving late at night a long way from home, but in a town where our mother lives. She was pulled over and the police said they pulled her because she was going a bit fast (about 25 in a 20 zone!) but also because 'the car was out of area' and so was 'unusual'. Checked all details and sent her on her way. So the police are aware of vehicle thefts and do take action where they can, but as all public services are, they are resource constrained so cannot follow up on everything.

I own a 2006 Lexus GS300 SE-L with "keyless" entry and drive. Lexus use a very complicated frequency to protect their keyless entry cars which makes them very difficult to steal.
As soon as I lock my var, the key (transponder) it placed in a very slim metal box (essentially a "Faraday" box but actually an old mint container) which instantly shields the signal and makes the car almost impossible to steal.
My key only comes out when I'm ready to drive again.
Personally, I think all keyless entry owners should do the same as I do; even my insurers like it and thus my premiums remain very low. (In the region of £160 a year; but I've had a clean licence for 60 years with no claims - ever).
Before all the trolls tell me I'm "lucky" or "unique" or worse. I'm just a careful driver; not slow, I've never been slow. I think it's just a case of shopping around for the best deal and when you find a good insurer; stick with them.
The JLR business is awful, and reflects on other drivers. Greed has a lot to do with it of course, but JLR could do more - much more.

That was quite a good interview, and it's never easy trying to do something like that over the phone. I felt this was coming for a while now, it's almost comedic how many Land Rovers are stolen. Tesla had something similar with their Model S series before pin to drive became a thing. They were being stolen to order and shipped off to bum fuck nowhere to be broken up. There was a very serious point where they were essentially going to be uninsurable.
I can't believe JLR have been so slow to respond, and their pithy recall is hardly inspiring. You'd have to be nuts to buy a RR at the moment unless it was a working machine on a farm (and locked up at night).
As Geoff said, it'd be a crying shame to see JLR, or any of the other British automotive firms fold for something that is so obviously fixable. Fingers crossed they get it sorted and make them a valid business case to insure across the whole of market.

I think that some people who have an EV expect the insurer to pay for replacement batteries when they are at their end of life but this should only be done for battery damage.

Hi Geoff, looks like insurance companies maybe following the JLR model for other makes as well as my BMW renewal has just been quoted at 35% increase on last years premium, that coupled with my wifes Evoque insurance doubling has really not helped the cost of living crisis we are all facing...

    Start your own insurance company!
Beat them at their own game!
    1) A small business makes money and
    2) Range Rover drivers are happy with low premiums
3? Maybe do a deal directly with JLR for backing as at this rate there products will be obsolete in 5 years!

@Lookup2Wakeuphe’s a self made man with an interesting story. He’s wealthy but he thinks like one of us. Good to have people like that on our side.

In 2002 my car came with a Thatcham approved immobiliser and a tracker.... Subaru were 20 years ahead of JLR !
P.S. was busy at work so I got hit with a 30% increase last month.... next year will be interesting.

I don't wish to sound negative but if 18 vehicles with a ghost have been stolen doesn't this mean that someone can circumnavigate the system. These people can then sell their answer to the ghost and you are back to square one.
