Perhaps one thing to consider ( yes it does cost a bit more $ 😅) is that you could use a long Soft Shackle with the Ultra Hook to help save from damaging that beautiful red gloss finish on that well engineered & tested Ultra Hook. This is for when you hook on to anything like hard metal recovery points, or hard metal bow shackles. Now Factor 55 and others do a 20" Extreme Duty Soft Shackle which is long enough to double wrap which in turn doubles the working load limit of the soft shackle to above that of the Ultra Hook, which is great albeit an added cost. Firstly I have to say I'm not a hard core 4WDrive but Ihave done and witnessed my share of recoveries. I don't think I've ever seen the basic hook give out or come off an attached point. I've never heard any stories of this happening to be honest; not saying it doesn't mind you but just never heard of or seen it. Nonetheless this device looks cool if nothing else.
you misinformed a bit. the dimensions for the throat diameter is not for knowing how large aa shacke or whatever can fit, but rather for you to do the math and be able to seee when the hook is out of its service life, the throat is rated as it can expand up to 10% whilst still being within load capacity. so if expanded or "bent" to 11% or more hook should be discarded

The original hook is rated at 15,800lbs and its forged, very rare it would break unless miss handled..........keep it in the van for safety.......
