Are you ever told “I thought you’d be more excited” when something happens and you don’t react super excited? You’re happy but you’re processing it, yet people take it as you’re not excited for them. It’s weird to feel so “even” and non responsive, but if something makes you feel passionate, nothing will stop you and you’re actually more vocal than others, which is shocking because you don’t understand why people are clamming up and not voicing anything towards injustice, or whatever seems unfair. I still don’t know what I am but this seems the closest.

(Waves late to the party flag) I have to fake my enthusiasm 99% of the time that something has my interest, which I probably shouldn't do. But it's part of the process of getting me to feel more socially in tune with my life.
From what I can tell of my progress so far, it's nice but I still feel a bit out of touch. The purpose is to supposedly get people to know a bit more of my inner self based on my reactions, but if I'm effortfully pushing it, it's less genuine. Although there is some merit to it, such as my human body being less awkwardly expressing said genuine enthusiasm when the time comes.

    • @alissa9420
      @alissa9420 4 роки тому +7

See, sometimes when it comes to those scenarios where people want you to look excited, I tend to fake it: not because I'm not happy or not grateful, I just don't want to make them think that I didn't appreciate it. Opening Christmas presents can kinda be like that sometimes because I just don't know what to say or do so I put on a fake smile and pretend a little. Unless it's something really surprising, then it catches me off guard and I react. 😅

INFJ female here. I second the "not being in touch with my own feelings" thing. I can also compartmentalize / shut off my feelings / easily control how and when I actually feel my feelings. For example, if I find out about something really terrible in my personal life but have a lot of work to get done in a day, I will set aside the emotion until I have time and space to let myself actually feel it. I don't let it get in the way of finishing my work / getting things done that I need to. Love this video!! :) You are both adorable

    • @thisispi1491

this sounds more like a intp. They truly can focus work in sh*t falling apart situations. Versus- Infjs - who feel deeply even if they are cool minded they still feel deeply, just before they need to overthink and overly analyze what they feel before they are certain what it is, but the emotions they accumulate don’t make it easy for them to work actually.

I 100% relate, and I did that compartmentalizing just an hour ago. There was a moment that made me feel sad/nervous and I was able to put it aside and move on. Otherwise, the “not computing emotions” thing is also something I have-it take me a while to realize I feel an emotion. In fact, I usually have to actively think about how I’m feeling to actually know

"INTJ's are colder on the outside, but INFJ's are colder on the inside..." LOL. Too true. Of course, it's nuanced, and one must factor in a delayed emotional response, as opposed to concluding a lack thereof because an emotional response isn't intense and immediate; but I know exactly what you meant, very well put haha.
Also, dang, forgot your name INFP! But very well put on your understanding of the introverted function, whether F / T, being a central characteristic of self-identity and indicative of one's inner life, whereas the extroverted function is what is SEEN to characterise a person and may not necessary - especially if an Introverted type.

This video reminded me of me (INFJ) and my INFP friend's analogies for the way we think. She told me I was like a powerful PC (high computing power) because I could perceive patterns in things that made me draw conclusions that a lot of times were correct (like multiple inputs processed to produce an output). To me, everything was connected. Continuing with the IT metaphor, I told her she was like a database or a search engine. She was a storehouse of feelings and memories, which makes her a formidable reservoir of information. To her (IMO), the world only makes sense through this huge database. She went on with this metaphor and said yeah, like Google, I need a prompt (search keywords) before I go on to access my data vault. I don't remember how it fit into the INFP functions though.
As for the other parts of the video, I agree with most, if not all, of what both of them said. My INFP friend told me that I was the most rational feeler she knows but that I also knew how and when to adjust the mix of feelings and logic when talking to another person. I also have a lag time between understanding the effect of events on my feelings. I realized that it's better to bring it out in the open (talking to INFP friend, singing, journaling, reading articles about what happened) because it clutters my mind and that making sense of how I feel makes me know what to do about it (let it be, suppress, reduce, eliminate). Additionally, when I'm with other people, I tend to be more gregarious (more so when people are having fun), which is my Fe side coming out to play. I also agree that wanting and expressing the desire to be unique is more an Fi trait than an Fe one. While I liked that INFJs were supposedly rare, it was more of relief because it made sense now that I found it hard to find other people who had the same thought process as I do. My INFP friend admitted that she had (in her words) conflicting desires of wanting to be unique and wanting to be validated by people.
I'm sorry for the overlong comment (post). I was just glad to see another INFJ and an INFP/INFJ dialogue and contrasting aspects of each. There are a few things that could be added though. The Ne-Ni differences and the Se-Si differences were barely mentioned. The Ti was discussed but there was no contrasting discussion for Te. I also wanted to hear more about INFJ stereotypes and boy, there are a lot. Nevertheless, I really loved and enjoyed the content of this video. Thanks a lot! 😁

Interesting comparisons to infj and istp - there's definitely a lot of similarities. My sister is istp and even though we're really different as people and live our lives in very different ways, there's some deep shared understanding that underlies the two. The infj is both 'romanza' by andrea bocelli and 'hard knock life' by jay z. Thats probably the best way I could describe our emotion/coldness paradigm and the closest I could get someone to experience what infj emotions are like. We feel, even sporadically, deep emotion and romance in a simple leave on the ground in the fall or timelessness at the site of a once occupied and now empty room and yet at other times simply like bad mfs. Its conflicting. At least for me as a male infj.

Idk if this is an INFJ thing that anyone else can relate to but when I've gone through a really emotional situation (usually a panic attack of some kind that was built up over time), my emotions just suddenly shut off. It's like Ti takes over and says "you're done with this" and I just flatline. I had one of those the other night and I also realized that I just suddenly could not stop drinking water and that I was extremely cold but didn't feel like changing that. I think that was also Se taking over.
Also, while I've never actually been broken up with, when I was younger, I was talking to someone who I thought was THE ONE and then one day, he just suddenly ended it. While I sort of saw coming a little, I never knew for sure because I have a hard time accurately using my Ni-Fe prediction for myself. The whole day after, I was talking to people about what happened and everyone was so worried that I wasn't okay and that I was devastated but I wasn't. I painted my wall that day and decorated it and actually kinda felt free. I told everyone i was okay because I felt completely numb and convinced myself I was happy because my "ex" was. Then all of the sudden, I listened to an emotional, romantic song and it hit me like a ton of bricks and suddenly I was consumed with just pure devastation. I didn't get over it for about half a year but I constantly kept shutting my feelings out and convincing myself that I wanted other people instead.
Let me know if there are similar experiences out there.
Also I was practically shouting "YES YES YES" at my screen at 11:39 idk how but I understood that.

the way I see my processing of emotions as an INFJ is something like this:
something happens to cause an emotion in me --> without being able to put a name to it or, as calypso put it, "file" it somewhere internally, the outward expression of that emotion comes out --> i have thoughts running through my head that cause the outward emotions to continue --> after the whole event, i find myself still unable to address which emotion it was, and i can only remember a select few of the thoughts i was having that caused -AN EMOTION-, regardless of what the emotion actually was

Okay, I'm not even finished with the video but I have to comment! I commented on one of your other videos and mentioned how I'm not even sure they're really an infj. But this chick, I can believe she's an infj! The way that when she's talking she doesn't look at who she's talking to, but rather kind of stares blankly or stairs up and to the side a little. It's because it feels almost impossible to look at somebody and engage in our thinking process at the same time. So our eyes disengage to think, and then re-engage with who were talking to when were done thinking so deeply, or when we're listening. I feel like it can be different though if we're talking about something we've already given a lot of thought to, because we don't actually have to think so deeply in the moment when we're talking about it. I actually feel kind of self-conscious about the fact that I do that, because after I'm done I recognize that did it, but even though I would like to improve that factor it feels impossible.
Also how she's not afraid to express her emotion. Like a lot of people that are trying to be infj feel like they can't express their emotion or something. Which I think is a problem with the typology, because people accidentally start thinking, I'm this type therefore this is what I do, rather than I do this therefore I'm this type. Everyone needs to just be themselves and screw the types. And then whatever type you end up being by being yourself cool, use that to maybe help explain yourself better to somebody.
I'm totally gonna go check out her channel! keep bein YOU!

I personally think Emily is INTP (Ti/Si).
    1. The focal point of the vast majority of her videos are related people, not things (sensory or concepts), and it's mostly about struggles between you and everyone else. "People related content" includes interviews. That focus on the struggles of people vs you is IxxP & ExxJ talk
    2. It shows that she's struggled with people around her in the past (demon Fe) more than she has struggled with identity, or chaos or fear of control. Moreover, feelings are kinda strange to her. She needs reasons (T) for those feelings to make sense. She says things like "I know this is blunt/insensitive to ask someone, but I want to know why you think of me this way" in her videos.
    3. She's quite solid on the facts, the known ones (Si). She doesn't do all these abstract paintings and when she tries she doesn't go on about them or push them (you can see that in the web/tunnel analogy here and her other videos). But her main struggle isn't so much loss of control or anything, she's balanced on that. Additionally, the majority of her videos are like fact reports: "this happened, and people said (this), and I did (this)." She doesn't jump to assumptions and again is very solid on her sensory
Bottomline, Emily is very sure of her identity through reasons, struggled with understanding people's feelings in the past (it shows that she's a lot better at it now, though!), prioritises T over F, and is solid on her known facts (Si). She's quite calm and introverted, and she'll peacock about not being too serious sometimes in streams, haha. I think Emily is quite interesting and calming, please don't scold me for not thinking she's INFJ!

Feelings? INFJ don't have personal feelings only personal thoughts. Ok kinda joking but Our feelings are in some ways the average of all people in that context. If context change INFJ will reflect that in their responses. But the timeline thing makes it so we don't forget the actual context as it relates to our collection of self including our Ti about the Se... also the timeline is oddly not escapable so its not fair that other types aren't burdened by this!

Funny thing is I also can't compute until much later if someone dies, but if I watch a sad commercial I might cry unexpectedly haha. And I might also relate to the pattern of getting hurt by someone, and then the last straw comes and then it hits me unexpectedly. But on the other hand I might have some associations from the past.
Bottom line people are beautifully complex. When you mentioned spider web like a tunnel, i could visualize it immediately in an abstract, nebulous way, but then it immediately made me think of a huge spider trying to spin me in a web, and I was filled with fear I've felt before.

  • @ladyfoxwf1075
    @ladyfoxwf1075 3 роки тому +6

I'm an ENFP and I also don't compute emotions straight away in a serious situation. It's like delayed; I can't register it.
Also I really like INFJ's. This girl here, the INFJ, she seems so composed, but if you look closely she is shaking. She can seem cold, and partially is, but is feeling far more than you would believe just by looking at her. The way she squints her eyes to listen to what casual cognition has to say, like she's trying hard to memorise it so she can analyse it. She's fixating on an idea, while so many ideas are being thrown at her. That's a big difference between an INFJ and ENFP, is that an ENFP struggles to focus on a particular thing, this is why they can't seem composed, because they're always jumping back and forth on ideas. Whereas an INFJ has so many questions, so many thoughts, but can think of many things while simultaneously listening and fixating on something someone is saying; the ultimate multitaskers. This reminds me of a scene on Skins (UK version ofc). But us ENFP's do the analysing thing as well. We do the squinting thing to listen as well. XD
She has such cold but such gazeful eyes, always searching which gives them their magic. She looks up as she's envisioning her ideas come to life so she can explain them, though she has such a feeling about them that she can't describe.

Good Morning Ladies and as always, it is a pleasure to listen to your channel.
I'm newish to this and I am an INTJ female of "a certain age". I wander around the channels and enjoy watching such amazing and smart young people (s) lol,
living in such an exciting time.
When you two mention that INTJ's appear colder but INFJ's are perhaps colder inside (4:30 ) I recognized that and can see it,
but as I understand the difference between us, the INTJ's and your INFJ types is that since our INTJ auxiliary function of Fe (valuing and belonging to the tribe) is not developed until our late 20's or maybe even the 40's for some of us, we will always be slightly immature in that regards. Once in a while, I get my feelings hurt and zoom! zwoosh!...I am ten years old again. Not logical but human.
You guys have the advantage in that your feelings are mature and Te is also your instinctual cognitive skill set. Your Te or Thinking just needs time and experience.

After multiple personality tests and UA-cam research I'm about 90% sure I'm an INFJ. Because it's apparently so rare (and with males even more) I dont think I'll ever truly feel I am so in touch with the emotion of others with a high level of emotional intelligence but strangely disconnected in how it translates to how I connect to it on a personal level. Because INFJs are very strong on values, basing decisions on how I connect to values vs emotion provides a security against the trend and keeps me free to internalize and translate my truth. Btw that ending was deliciously awkward.

As far as the statistics are right at least least - since I find INFJ's much more common than for example ENFJ's in reality. I've asked about 8 people this same thing, and most of them knew more INFJ's than ENFJ's...Not that this means anything in terms of proove of course, but ...is there even anyone who knows more ENFJ's than INFJ's?

I'd second I think a few ENFJs do type as INFJs as besides the stereotypes ENFJs tend to be quite socially introverted give the specificity of Fe-Se and more divergent types are invested in their Ni-Ti (CPT). I'm a cognitive ENFJ (typed by CPT) and I've met very few ENFJs; slightly more INFJs but the difference is quite negligible in percentage. I think many think they can't be an ENFJ due to the misperception that Ti is somehow inferior when the reality is my FeTi axis is 50/50; if I hadn't have been typed I would've considered myself a Ti or Ni dominant. As Ni is the authority function I'm sure this can be conflated for being an Ni dom too

As an INFJ, I get that exact same thing when someone dies! I think I go straight to Ni because my usual first reaction is "How did he die? Why did this happen? Is there a reason?" and I sometimes appear to just be a cold robot. But later on, I cry and let my emotions out. It is so hard to initially say "I'm so sorry" to someone when they tell me so and so died. Afterwards, I feel like I was being mean to them but it definitely takes a bit for that Fe to come out!

This reminded of my infp friend and i interaction. She's naturally bubbly but when she's with me she becomes calm and somewhat serious lol. It frustrates me bc she changes when she's with me like "hey show me your silliness don't you like me?" You're quite composed here, Calypso. 😁

Thanks for this video, it's been very enlightening for me.
I've watched a number of yours and other people's videos on MBTI over the last few months. Two of your videos on S/N helped me finally figure out my last 2 functions, Ni and Se; that makes my 4 functions Ti, Ni, Se, Fe.
How does one best go about determining the proper ordering?
I looked at which 4 types have those 4 functions. I've watched a number videos on those 4 types, and ESTP is absolutely nothing like me. I've been completely certain my whole life that I'm an introvert, so I'm leaning to those types, although the ENFJ does resonate a bit with me. Some of the ISTP descriptions also resonate with me, but something about it just doesn't seem right.
After watching this video, I'm really leaning towards INFJ now; never really paid that one any attention until now. I realize it's quite rare in men, but that makes quite a lot of sense to me. A lot of Emily's responses really resonate with me.
I'd love to hear people's thoughts. Thx!

Y’all should get together with other NFS and SFS and talk about emotions. Maybe Sarah Isfp, Megan LeVota and her best friend and enfp, So chill ISFJ, and an ESFP and ESFJ if you can get them to.

wow thank you for this video. ive been very frustrated with my inability to process my inner feelings. sometimes i wonder if i have any cause im mostly focused on what i should feel and i act according to that instead. but deep down i dont rly feel that way especially if its in the moment. i even attributed this to astrology (my capricorn moon). i feel validated somehow to have this experience put into words by someone else :) i also have a close infp friend who envied my ability to "not feel" because she feels much too intensely instead. i should so share with her this video xD

What type are you when your mind is constantly fixated on 3-4 past scenes either in memory or imaginary and they play on a reel for weeks to years, sometimes switching scenes out, and you see these scenes or things in your mind the same time you see the outer world?

One of MBTI's flaws in my opinion is that it focuses exclusively on the "nature" side of things, and completely ignores the "nurture" aspect, though it's still a lot of fun to think about and definitely has some truth to it.

    • @pucokie
      @pucokie 5 років тому
