    I live in FL and have caught many a blue crab. We'd use long handled dip nets and stand on bridges and dip up the crabs as they ride the tide on top of the water. We caught hundreds of crabs this way.

    Florida has quite a bit of crabbing going on. There’s a few channels on YT that showcase that.
    I’m fascinated that you were able to just net them right out without any bait it looked like.

    Just a lil FYI. Look into the amount of blue crabs sold in Maryland that actually come from Texas and Maryland😂.Gulf coast crabs are the best! We don't ruin them with old Nae either

    • @CookingWithClams

      I’ve had plenty outta Louisiana but never would have thought of Texas. Makes sense

    • @mdv2043

      @@CookingWithClams ya there is a big amount of " maryland" crabs sold that acually come from lousiana and texas

    • @gonzalomanriquezjr864
      @gonzalomanriquezjr864 5 місяців тому +1

      A lot of them come from Louisiana. The main reason is because from December-April we don’t have a crabbing season in Maryland. The water is too cold and they bury themselves in the mud and go into a hibernation mode. That’s why they are good here in the fall. They get nice and fat before they go stagnant for the winter. Also most crabs here are seasoned with J.O. Spice not old bay. And I grew up in Florida and the crabs here in Maryland are 100% better in the fall than they are in the gulf.

    • @mdv2043
      @mdv2043 5 місяців тому

      Crabs go through the same cycle on the gulf coast when water cools off. It is a pride thing. Having been in the comercial seafood industry for over 30 yrs you can take 3 blue crabs from anywhere in the world and put them infront of any person and no one can tell the difference. Kind of like saying a flounder in north carolina taste different from a florida or texas flounder. Totaly different cooking styles boiling verse steamed does make them different though thats why maryland can market so many imported crabs and no one is the wiser to it. Only real difference is at this point i would prefer gulf coast crab over Chesapeake because that bay is sooooo poluted iam surprised they have not shut down more consumption of the seafood. The amount of sewage dumped into that bay is staggering not to mention all the other stuff. Yes Gulf has polution as well but it is alot bigger body of water that seems to cut the levels more on some seafood. @gonzalomanriquezjr864

    • @gonzalomanriquezjr864
      @gonzalomanriquezjr864 5 місяців тому +2

      @@mdv2043 if has actually been cleaned up and is a lot healthier than it used to be. Mostly due to a big push in oysters in the bay. But honestly most crabs that are caught in Maryland rarely leave the state. But I don’t buy them. It’s $2 for a recreational crabbing license. $2 a bushel is better than $200 a bushel if you buy them.

    I'm enjoying this video but in the segment where the crabs are very lethargic, I'd not keep any of those crabs because they MAY be suffering from the effects of red tide.

There’s a place called the rustic Inn crab House. They have the best garlic crabs ever I’ve been eating there since probably 1960 something I don’t live there anymore though they are a bit pricey, but they’re well worth it.
