Yes one of my favorites! New convert here. After 20 years a Protestant I learned to love the old hymns......then this 1300 year old hymns comes along and wow! Love the Catholic faith
Very inspirational. It also reminds me of my Dad mentioned this lovely hymn.
What made you convert? My baptist gf of many years wants nothing to do with it and it saddens me.
I converted in 1973....one of the best descions that I ever made. My Dad was Catholic and my Mom was Protestant. My Dad was estranged from the Catholic Church at the time. A good friend introduced me to the Catholic Church and so I converted and eventually I got my Dad to come back. My husband is Catholic. I am so happy to have converted.

Always reminds me of Ordinations and Episcopal Consecration plus Solemn Professions.
Reminds me of confirmation. In the Latin rite the bishop or delegated priest chants this at the altar with his assistant while the rest of the church remains silent

sure - Vatican II made a lot of changes to Hymns - What happens is that Pope Urban around the 1600's made several changes in hymns to have a more elegant Latin - vide: Ad regias Agni dapes of Easter Vespers Hymn is now Ad regias Agni providi, which seems that "providi" was the original. The problem is that since the 1600's till mid of the 20th Century everybody has used the Hy¡mns with the Urban changes - OK now the hymns have been restored to their original but old timers like me can't get used to the originals. I have in my computer the Urban Hymns to avoid the originals. Greetings from Lima, Peru, June 6, 2019

dear marek. I found this hymn different in Liber usualis (1961), expecially verse 3.
Dear Andreas, you are right, this is the version from Graduale Romanum 1974... the same version has also Liber Hymnarius 1983. In Liber Usualis, or Graduale Romanum 1961 is the text slightly different and there is also one more Verse.
did you know possible reason behind text change?
As far as I know, there was an effort to restore more ancient versions of the hymns.
I have an illuminated manuscript folio of the Graduale Romanum from 1563, it contains several Veni Creator chants including the one that is found in Liber Usualis as well as the version listed above. I have another volume titled Graduale Sarisburense (Sarum Gradual) which contains Veni Creator but in Ambrosian Chant
