the crazy sh*t is that fandom go harass hana kimura's family right after the eps and then after eps 7 they harass akane's eng VA bcs they think akane' eng VA arent good enough like did these guys even understand the show they're watching??
I am shocked that UA-cam recommended a video with only slightly over a hundred likes to me. I am more shocked to discover that it's high quality content that really needs a million likes.
This is probably the first time I’ve seen media tackle cyber bullying in a way that didn’t make groan about turning off the computer. I guess all it takes is depicting it realistically without the overbearing melodrama of a mid-2000s teen drama. That or I’ve grown more understanding of the want for social acceptance since watching said dramas. I thought I could get by throwing my opinions around like a loose cannon and not worrying about what others thought of me, then I found myself stared from all directions at in a university classroom because I had to be the lone dissenter on [relevant political issue/s]. Sometimes not caring is easier said than done and Akane embodies this fact perfectly.
as a bit of bts, that cut was the product of me knowing i wanted to switch up the style to something break/glitchcore inspired but not knowing exactly how i wanted it to look. so i went to a separate project file, used the most recent file on my computer at the time (kana image from earlier in the video) and messed around till i got that. it was too good for me to not use in the video so i just sorta threw it in there lol
Really good editing with this one. The use of colour filers when talking about negative social interactions was a unique take. If I may, as a relatively new creator myself, I found that both age and understanding helped with my content. Going through the process of fact checking, doing all research, finding sources and double checking everything created a disconnect to where I could just shrug everything off. It kind of sucks because UA-cam really pushes videos with each comment, and I see the boost to views when I respond to people in the comments, so it feels like being rewarded for arguing or providing context to people who may never see that comment, not to mention people who comment without watching the video. With Episode 6, I see a shard of myself in her. Naïve enough to interact with negativity, instead of just instant blocking or removing comments for the channel. Then I thought, what if I put something out there without research, just going off assumptions, ignoring an answer already at my fingertips if I bothered to look? Not all content is the stuff we do, reviews, analysis, critique, boils down to hard facts. We all approach everything from our own prospective, and the more social we are, the harder it is to say 'It's just words from a nobody I'll never meet'. To me, that's what episode 6 is about, a lesson we all must go through in this space. Everything we put out can come back to bite us, and a balance is key to maintain our sanity. We still have to read those comments to decipher, learn, and grow, but if we take them to seriously, or not at all, both roads can lead to ruin. But that's just my prospective, and this comment exists mainly to boost the views you'll get. It is what it is.
Not the biggest fan of Oshi no Ko but the discussion you managed to extract IS interesting and valuable Love how creative your visuals are btw, 3:13 is straight up a Bakemonogatari shot
No idea how you managed that Monogatari paper mache stuff in the beginning, but damn was it cool and unique. At this point, just keep uploading videos this unique -- perhaps on more relevant shows if possible -- and you'll blow up EZ PZ.
hella thanks for the comment dude. i mostly cranked this vid out cuz i had the thumbnail lying around and thought it was too good to waste, even though i shouldve uploaded this way closer to the shows release date lol
just a couple of days ago, i was at a family’s place, my dad’s friend’s family, & they had invited us for lunch that day. i was having lunch along with my mom & their kid, when suddenly the kid commented about my hairstyle & just showed his absolute judgemental nature, ykwim. later, when we got back home, my mom asked me, “are you alright? is that why you didn’t want to go there?” (i’m introverted so that’s why i normally refuse to go attend family events & such) i replied to her, “that wasn’t even bad. i’ve been posting videos on youtube for almost a decade now & still do, i’ve seen much worse, things i can’t even imagine saying to someone myself. from seeing all of that, i’ve developed a great level of tolerance.” i’m not saying that akane was overreacting to the whole situation; obviously, i haven’t faced global hatred, on that level, but i’m just sharing an instance; we, as youtubers, are used to it.
Great video! I really like the way you animated things in the beginning. Also, the topic about how comments can affect you in a good or a bad way is something that I truly understand. That's why I only write a bad comment (politely) if there's no one talking about it. In the case of good comments, I only write them if I genuinely like something about a video or if the video makes me think. Additionally, I leave a like and subscribe if the channel is good. (Maybe that's the reason I'm a ghost on the internet-and in real life.) As always, I enjoy the stuff you do, so keep going! :D (Extra: Your drawing is really improving!)
it's a (slightly altered) audio of the song of the last kau'ai o'o bird, a species that has gone extinct since the recording. the bird is singing for a female mate, who is supposed to finish the song via call and response. however, because he is the last kau'ai o'o left, the song is left incomplete, hence the gaps in the song.
tried watching lain a long while back but didnt like its style of storytelling. my friend keeps harassing me to watch perfect blue but it seems too dark for my liking lol
As a defender of "cancel culture" myself, I did not understand the episode from your perspective. To me it ressembles way more of a lack of empathy from a internet fan base who obviously lack common sense when it comes to fictional event. Cancel culture is often not as undeserved as it may seems, because this is the public aspect of one's life, and its declarations that are scrutinized, not an hypothetic act of violence inside a reality TV show. Oshi no ko, to me, depicts the blurry frontier between internet and real life. I don't see blind involvment on the same side as public accountability. I agree with you nonetheless that influencers will always receive some kind of support from the core fan base, meaning they should not be as afraid as they could be.
i dont think of this video as strictly anti cancel culture, nor is it anti criticism for the obvious reason that i myself criticize media and think its healthy for discussion. its more so an analysis of the nature of the internet and online backlash, and in some ways a critique of how we engage in online backlash, and how oshi no ko portrays it. i dont think youre wrong to say it depicts the blurry line between reality and fiction on reality tv since the entire show is after all about lying. i think its about both, or at the very least *depicts* a scenario that resonated with me in that way
In what cases is cancel culture justified? I’ve only ever seen it invoked over people saying problematic things (which are almost never actually as offensive as made out to be) or completely unsubstantiated accusations of misconduct. It just comes off as a mob playing judge, jury and executioner in court of public opinion because some said or did something disagreeable. I do agree that it probably isn’t what the episode is going for. Our conception of cancel culture is far too western for me to believe Akasaka was specifically discussing it when writing Akane. It’s more a general statement on the callousness of the internet fuelled by misinformation and how that can reach into the real world.
