Of all the good late night shows, Bill's is not only very entertaining but you can feel that he wants all of his viewers, left and right to reflect and reconsider. That makes his show special.
Well said. The worst thing about these sort of people is how horrendously toxic they are. While they're crying 'offence', they are in reality control freaks. They are entirely intolerant and humorless.
What's horrendously toxic Duncan Wallace is denying that jokes repeated over n over again by the dominant group are harmless. How do people tend to react when a woman says a dude's crazy vs. a dude saying a woman's crazy? Are you aware of the fact that not long ago a woman could be stripped of her rights and institutionalized for behaving in ways that male society did not agree with? It's no coincidence that the person who made the stupid, sexist joke is a white guy, or that the majority of people who defend BM are also white guys. White men have no clue what it's like to be discriminated against, exploited economically, shunned socially, etc. as a result of these so-called "harmless jokes".

Well, I'm a liberal who agrees with his takes, I also don't want men competing against women in sports. Why would I want to see a dude compete against women? I don't.
It's just common sense. If some punk teen and his friend smash up a kids bike and the little kid goes and complain in tears to the nearest adult about what happened. Do you really believe Millennials are the problem? They are trying to make it in a worse economy since 1980 w inflation. They can’t afford anything and you need to realize this is just another trick the ruling class uses to divide the People.
He hit the nail on the head. My generation is the worst generation ever. I wished I had been born in the 80's to be able to experience at least some years of my life without having the constant feeling of living in a mad house.
This is a peculiar thing I came across when I was a teacher. Parents who didn't like how you were dealing with their child were not interested in sitting down, talking, and working things out. They were on search and destroy mode, screaming in your face, complaining to your superiors daily and insisting you be fired, getting online with other parents of your students to start bad feelings with them, all over the most miniscule misunderstanding. This is how younger adults are today. God help us.
The part of your comment saying "...all over the most miniscule misunderstanding" is particularly worrisome to me. Some people would call this lack of perspective and I would agree--yet I would add lack of proportion, as well. In other words, not every disagreement should be seen as a "three-alarm fire" level of conflict.
@darlamcfarland3323, my wife would talk for 25 years left the teaching profession for EXACTLY the scenario you described. Parents stopped thinking of the teacher as someone whose job is to impart information but someone they could work out on because Johnny continually acted up in class and there wasn't a damn thing teachers could do about it anymore,; no expulsions, no disciplines allowed, and you have to treat them all like thin glass faces because they're so fragile. It was just too hard for her to go from a recognized positive force in students lives particularly because of her emphasis on reading to being blamed for all of society's ills and in particular the behavioral problems of the children foisted upon her by bad parents/ ignorant/ drug addicted/ in trouble with the law and on and on. It is virtually impossible to rid yourself of a student who is basically destroying the class and The Learning Experience for everyone else. And the parents come in and shake your finger at YOU❗
This is much needed. The perpetually offended will take a harmless and fun joke and twist it into something that feeds their ego’s need for self-importance. Thank you, Bill, for saying it as it should be.

I’m a firefighter/paramedic. I started in my department when I was 23 (now 35) and was the second youngest guy there in a transition time full of older guys approaching retirement. Now our average age is probably mid 30’s and I hate it. There’s more complaining than ever, people who have been there a year or two throw a fit when they’re not a top candidate for promotions, and a lost sense of looking out for one another. A good example is a standard courtesy in the fire service is if you’re part of the shift coming on that morning and a last second call comes out you should relieve the off-going shift so they can go home on time, regardless if you’re on the ambulance or not. Now it’ll be 5 minutes before a shift’s off time, you’ll catch a call and look to see if anyone is gonna take it for you and get “I’m not the medic today” or other bullshit like that. We might have gotten younger but the quality and solidarity isn’t what it was. Update: I would also like to point out two things: I’m only 35 and part of that generation that I find part of the problem in case anyone missed that and thought I was just some “boomer” blasting their generation. 2. Not every older coworker was a gem either, I’ve seen plenty of humps come and go who can’t be pleased and complain about any attempt to better the job with new ideas. You know, what is most awful about this situation is that while I knew about this story, EVERY SINGLE news outlet I read described Weigel's retweet as a "sexist joke", without giving ANY clue as to what the joke actually was. Now that I know what it was, all I can say is wow, how the HELL do we rely on this media as the "guardian angel" of democracy?
I've also noticed this. The outlet reports on the story but never gives the reader details. You cannot know what was said and make up your own mind about whether or not it was as bad as they are telling you ought to think it is.
Well, if you read about it on social media, the goal is to make you click on the link and go to the website. The problem with the quality of journalism nowadays is precisely social media. You have to do everything for the likes and retweets and so on. Quality doesn't matter anymore, all you need is engagement, and making people curious enough to go the website where you see ads and so on. People don't like to pay for good journalism, so we shouldn't wonder it's going downhill. They rely on other users in the comment section instead of reading the article or look up the tweet themselves (which takes 1 minute) . The news outlets also probably didn't repeat the joke because it could be a policy not to repeat "offensive" stuff.
Regarding the joke itself: It is true that both sexes are frustrated with each other and make jokes about each other. But they still don't have the same political power. They are not equal. Women have been banned from political participation because they were considered "hysterical" for a very long time. So I can understand this joke may not sound funny to everyone. But Felicia definitely overreacted. You have to pick your battles.
Clearly you need to get your news from different media outlets. There are plenty of independent news media that carried this Fellatio Somnez story, with the full joke, from day one.
You know the parents walking around the supermarket almost pretending they don't have a 5 year old in the cart having a meltdown tantrum? Yea, that's us as a country. We try and look normal but inside, we're horrifyingly embarrassed and afraid of triggering the next tantrum when we say "no you can't have a cookie" ...
The problem is you use to be able to give that kid a cuff in the head and they would stop. Now if you did that you would have 5 idiots with there cell phones out taking videos and pictures and social services knocking on your door. Kids today just see there parents as powerless authority figures.
I have small children. I love telling them no - LOL. they live with their grandmother and only spend time with me on the weekends, so when I get them on Saturday morning, they're unbelievably spoiled from their grandparents. It doesn't take long before one of them hears the word no and starts freaking out. It ends pretty quickly, and we have a great time after that. It usually doesn't take much more than "one..."
yea, because we saw videos of our parents getting lots of cookies, more than any other generation in all of history. But instead of baking more they just ate and horded. Now there arn't enough cookies for everyone anymore. Because of this competition is born and when there is competition you have to cause a fuss or you loose. its pretty basic stuff if you research biology, ecology and sociology. Have you been to a high school recently? because in many having a 4.0 GPA is considered not good enough
Bill Maher said it best in a line I remember from some 5-10 years ago: "If we want this new globalized modern world to work, the only right you don't have, you can't have, is the right to be offended."
Oh no - you have every right to be offended. That's you - that's your mind, no one has a right to tell you that you CANT be offended. What you don't have a right to do is to tell other people how to act about it.
Nobody has the right NOT to be offended, otherwise, we don't live in a free society. So, you're offended, what happens next? Nothing, be an adult and move on.
As a 20 year old infantryman deployed to Iraq for the invasion in 2003, I have been deeply offended by Mr. Maher's comments in the past. I've grown up since then . I've seen the world, and war, for what it is. Being offended doesn't make you right. Keep speaking your mind sir, no matter who it offends. Nobody's "victimhood" overrules your right to speak.
@@warrenp8877 To be fair, most people won't notice something is wrong with the thing that goes by the same name as a thing from their past that used to be good. Think video games and Blizzard. They used to be one of the best game companies in the world, showed with every moment and every game that they cared about the players, had a good sense of humor, and genuinely made content that was not designed purely for profit. They designed a product that was good, and the profit followed. Somewhere along the lines, people got confused as to why they made money, and they said to themselves "It must be mathematically X+Y=Profit" and then they went to trying to figure out the equation when they already had the answer. Moral of the story is, people today still believe Blizzard is a good company. They are still fans of their work. They still love the products... but they are really in love with the shell of what used to be inside that company, not what it has metamorphized into. They won't be able to change their mind unless they are able to remove the rose-tinted glasses and look at it clearly to see what it has become. And most people are not willing to do that.
indeed, it is dying of such today as a growing majority of increasingly uneducated sheep vote as their respective media platforms & flock of peers (also brainwashed by the aforementioned platforms) say they should). These same media brainwashed masses are who their elected officials also pander to in often the same knee-jerk-reaction way, often flopping from one stance to another on subjects just for votes & attention. They're all controlled by media which is owned & narrated by the corporate ruling class, who now not only own a growing majority of both government establishment parties, but also control a growing majority of the dumbed down electorate who votes as they're manipulated to vote for, worship, or even commit homegrown terrorist attacks for. It's no longer a free & fair democracy if elections are so influenced by propaganda so it indeed is dying in dumbness, or arguably already has.

One of the best New Rules all year because it DOES encapsulate what's wrong with the major newspapers--who are really the only ones left breaking news stories. We depend on The New York Times, The Washington Post, and a handful of others to actually break stories, and they simply don't anymore because too many of them just scroll through Twitter looking for trends to write about OR only cover "MeToo" stories because those women in live in NYC/LA/DC and they can go meet them for lunch 3 minutes from their office.

What's horrendously toxic Duncan Wallace is denying that jokes repeated over n over again by the dominant group are harmless. Correct. Wokes have changed the meaning of many words & now anything they dislike is either hate speech or harassment.
“Emotional Hemophiliacs” A mastery of the English language. I wonder what generation the shows writers are. I can not see someone who is now under forty succeeding Bill and being as edgy, and that would be a sad future for comedy.
Now you're getting it.
I wonder how old you’re if you consider Maher being “edgy”.
Yes, that phrase poppped out at me, too. Brilliant!
I'm definitely adding "emotional hemophiliac" to my vocabulary from now on.
Good thing his millenial writing staff came up with it.
The media, today, is off the rails. Especially, the left. No objectivity. They make me sick with their emotion driven half truths.

@@reddogg3118 Truth.
Empathy. Compassion. With instant global messaging perhaps we could start there.
He's always offended.... hello.... hello... can anyone hear him?
Oh no - you have every right to be offended.
That's you - that's your mind, no one has a right to tell you that you CANT be offended.
What you don't have a right to do is to tell other people how to act about it.
@The Better than you Crew he's gotta run down young people because of one nutball. fk stupidity. He's an aging agist. You haven't noticed?
Nobody has the right NOT to be offended, otherwise, we don't live in a free society. So, you're offended, what happens next? Nothing, be an adult and move on.
“Perpetually offended”, that’s a good one.
Thank you Bill!
"Emotional hemophilia" is a phrase I need to remember and use accordingly. Still, it's sad that this happened with WaPo.
It is equally sad you haven't noticed WaPo has been a bird cage liner at best for years.

“Democracy dies in dumbness”. Best quote ever.
And it's true for the Left AND the Right! For every Felicia Sonmez there's a Marjorie Taylor Greene...except that Greene holds a government position!
@@victorpradha9946 But mgt isn't losing her little mind over a harmless tweet then trashing her fellow cons.
indeed, it is dying of such today as a growing majority of increasingly uneducated sheep vote as their respective media platforms & flock of peers (also brainwashed by the aforementioned platforms) say they should).
Died?
@@victorpradha9946 Sorry, but MTG pushing the idea of a stolen election....something every Democrat was doing in 2016 BTW....absolutely pales in comparison to Libs pushing drag queen story hour in kindergarten, 8-10 year old children being coerced into transgenderism, the normalization of paedo phillia and everything they don't agree with or find "offensive" to be canceled and censored, along with the total destruction of the lives of those who they disagree with or find "offensive". I had a reputation for telling the truth at my place of employment. I also had a philosophy given to me by my first supervisor of "Do me a favor-fire me". I worked for this organization for 28 years, and as a contractor for almost 5 years after.
I felt that telling the truth was the only way to protect myself, even when surrounded by or supervised by liars. Documentation always helped. Asking questions was also a factor.
Thank you, Thank you for speaking the truth.
Using logic and taking a rational hard look at things is unfortunately so rare.

I’ve worked in healthcare for a little over 25 years , and the younger staff I’m seeing these days is incredibly difficult to tolerate. They’re whiny and entitled abc walk around like they’re all that because they successfully started one IV and did two blood draws. Meanwhile I did the other 23 IV starts and carried the bulk of the workload all day. They’re ridiculous. And don’t even think about getting them more than one arm’s reach away from their phones !
My experience working with younger people is they don't have a work ethic.
