Dzięki Tomku. Właśnie szukałem info jak zrobić taką mapę i trafiłem na Twój kanał. Jest łapka w górę i subskrypcja. Pozdrawiam. Staszek
Dzieki wielkie i miłego oglądania 👍😁
I've been looking at different makes of laser engravers for a while none of which fitted in with my needs either to big expensive or just too much time setting up, this 1 is perfect for my needs thanks for showing just how easy and simple and clean this one is. Love the project you have made a really nice workshop there since moving back home from the U.K. All the best for 2023 to you and your family.
Thank you kindly. Yes this one is really a good all around machine with solid capabilities 👍
Ok, I changed my mind. This is one of the best you have done. Well done 👍👍
hehe I think so too :)
Wonderful instructions! Thank you!
Thank you for watching 👍
This is awesome tutorial, dziekuje !
Hehe thank you for watching 👍
just wanted to thanl you from France! Very clear and instrctive! great result, love it!
Thanks for watching!
Swietny film i oczywiście super wykonanie. Pozdrawiam z Poznania
Wielkie dzięki, pozdrowionka z Kalisza 👍
This is amazing. I love your enthusiasm, and how proud you are of the finished product.
Thank you for watching
Very nice, just the explanation I have been looking for!
Glad that my video was some help 👍
It's a amazing map
Thanks
Phenomenal!
Thanks
I love this sort of thing, taking simple elements and combining to make more complex pieces ... brilliant 👍
It came out better than I imagined it mate. Now getting asked to make few more lol new business venture I hope
@@CasualDIY Brilliant, I'm also thinking of all the possibilities of my new laser and mill ... definitely a potential source of income ... spookily I watched my first video of someone combining different runs through the laser a day or so back.
Parts are arriving daily for mine, so will hopefully start work on it as soon as I get out of hospital (11 days so far).
@@barry.w.christie i wish you quick recovery and plenty of time with the new toy
Fantastic project. Thankyou.
Thank you for watching 😁
Great work Tomasz.
thank you very much
Brilliant, Tomasz! Fantastic work! 😃
Some day I'm definitely going to try it!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thank you kindly. Its a great tool worth having 👍
All the best
Merry Christmas and thankyou ❤ ejike
Happy holidays!
That was a very interesting video. I've never seen somebody doing this with a laser engraver. Thanks for sharing the video.
Glad you liked it 👍😁
Beautiful
Thanks
Fantastic video!
Thank you for watching 👍
Nice one, well done, prefer the black frame as well, makes it pop, and of course you can also colour the roads and so on. Once thing I do often is use a Topographical map from online sources and then create a contour based map of your chosen area and then overlay some of this data as well for a real 3d experience. The final maps look superb.
Nice one 👍
That's very clever!
Glad you like it 👍😁
Thank you for this...
Thank you for watching 👍
Do you ever make 3D laser cut Lake map ? With different depth of the lake for every layer...
@@williamnoble3324 not made one like that yet
Great vid. I always had issues with Snazzy, you helped a lot.
Glad I could help
Jak się masz! Fantasic steps brother.
Thank you kindly 😅👍
very nice project. It is looks awesome.
Thank you
thank you! Subbed
Welcome aboard 👍
Great video. I think this could do well on UA-cam. Good luck.
Thank you kindly
Nice one.
Thanks 👍
What a great project Tomasz, I may have to start saving as that seems like justification for owning the Atezr P10 Combo. I’m also thinking Jigsaw Puzzles could be a possibility as well!
Possibilities are endless mate. And this laser is good all around 👍
Really nice Tomasz, let's hope this area isn't soon flattened for the new train line.🤞
This won't. Its the town center and surroundings. The 4 proposed train lines are more to the West.
Hello and many thanks for the video which i followed mostly untill when you come to laser it out, firstly when you were in inkscape after each layer did you save them because when you come to cut them out you just went straight to grbl and imported files from where? its driving me crazy cos i loved the video so much and unable to cut out my own maps many thanks
Yes saved them separate on my hard drive.
What you can make with a laser engraver and cutting machine....and table saw and miter saw. You wouldn't HAVE to put the border on it but you're right, it looks fantastic with the black border.
What I always say, adjust the project to the tools you have and the abilities you have.
Excellent piece of work. Wonder if it would be worth doing a piece on making your own picture frames to complement it, just a thought. Thanks
Yep sound like a good idea for a video 👍😁
could you tell me where you got the very beautiful text in the lower left?
This is Awesome. Can I ask which wood you use, is it just normal ply?
Sometimes normal ply, but usually a ply that is designed for laser cutters
You just got me excited about a laser project...what was the wood material you used? Did I miss that? Do you see a benefit using something else?
I'm using 3mm plywood for this project. I think for this particular map 3mm ply works great as its not too thick as you put the layers together or to thin. If for example I only had 2 layers I could have used 4mm but anything thicker than that would just look strange I think
Awesome tutorial. I am struggling with how you removed the text at the bottom of the images. They are there in Inkscape, but when you pulled them up on the laser software they were gone. Thanks!
Just use the node tool in Inkscape to adjust the image👍
Great video as always, something I'll definitely be doing for my home town - but I noticed when you did the cut for the water feature the area lower right effectively creates an island surrounded by the river which would drop out of the layer. When you are lueing-up I noticed it had tabs to maintain the position of this "island" how/where did you generate them please.
I made them in Inkscape with path tool, I think its called.
I think the tabs would also be the bridges and highways that would cross the river, meaning the island can still be connected physically
hi, good video, but how do you remove the cut border that outlines the water layer? strujggling to get rid of it, any help appreciated
I think the process is on the video. Not sure what else you are looking for.
❤🎉😊
how do u get the roads to stick to te boarders?
All need to be connected - if they are not I use the node tool in Inkscaoe to make sure they are
Great video! I'm trying to follow along and am getting stuck between Inkscape and the laser engraving software (I'm using lightburn). Did you save each file separately or are they layers or something else?
Yes I saved the files separately.
Brilliant well done looks great, what lazer do you think is best out of all of them you have tried
If you don't consider the price then this one the Atezr P10. Great cutting and engraving capacity plus built in air assist intake.
If you are looking for something in the mid price range then Longer Ray5 with 10W module or Ortur Laser Master 2Pro with 10W module. If you are on a super tight budget then the Atomstack A5 Pro+ with 5W power module - good for engraving but cutting perfornance not as good as the 10W modules obviously.
@Casual DIY great thank you that's a good help 👍
@CasualDIY I would like to do a project like this with the font you use in the lower left
Thank you for the tutorial. But when i drag the picture into the Inkscape, it doesn't show up, only a big Cross showing. Do you know what is the problem?
I got it figured, i had it in Outline view. :)
hello this is a nice video really helpful, what material of wood is that?
I used Ash wood for the frame. Thank you for watching 👍
Quick question, is there a way in Inkscape to make the local roads just a single line rather than engraved? When I try and switch it to line, it draws the road as a double line and encloses it.
Hmm I'm sure there is a way would have to look through some tutorials on UA-cam
Good map as it helps me getting so close to what I like to do. I am struggling with making and connecting the "frame" look to the highway layer. Can you clarify? Thanks.
I've used Inkscape to sort that out. You can connect any open areas or close them off.
@@CasualDIY Thanks for the response. I am using Inscape and have tried many options to eliminate the cut paths but not sure what I was doing. Can you give a few words what to click on?
@@user-gi9nd2jn7d you just need the node tool to do that, there are quite a few tutorials on UA-cam on that.
@@CasualDIY yes thank you. I have been messing around with it all day and did figure it out with a bunch of nodes that needed to be broken apart and then connected to close the opens. Thank you for answering and the vid was awesome. I've watched it like a dozen times.
Hi Tomasz, brilliant project. I've been looking to do something like that for a while. Do you know if ATEZR have an EU distributor? Don't fancy paying import from the UK. Cheers Alan
Hi. Thanks 👍😁
Mine came from an Amazon fulfilment center in Germany.
Realy cool, can you Tell me how do you get the letters from Google away ?😬
I use Inkscape and the node tool to do that
Great project! This is on my 'To Do' list- I appreciate the link to Snazzy Maps!!
Sorry if I missed it but what was the thickness of the wood? Looked a little thinner than 3mm. Thanks!
It's 3mm plywood 👍
Good deal! Thanks for the quick reply!
@@markhulette6987 No problem 👍
What type of wood did you use and how thick ?
Thai is great work
For the frame? It was Ash wood I think it was 2.5cm thick
@@CasualDIYand the wood for the map cutting ?
@@geordielicious-9084 3mm plywood
Now that I actually have a laser I've returned to this really nice project. Frustratingly, once I trace the images in Inkscape, the fill & stroke feature doesn't remove the black background colour, in fact, it doesn't make a difference at all. All ideas are welcome!
Did you use the path tool I mention? It creates the vector copy from which you can remove the background etc
Please tell me which material are you cutting and engraving with your machine, thickness? thank you Sir
3mm plywood👍
Could you show us the proposed routes for the high speed railway on your new 3d map?
Not on this one, it only shows the town centre and surroundings. The track lines are more to the West. I can send you a link to the website with all the track lines if you want 😉
@@CasualDIY yes please,I am disgusted with the way the Government is treating it's citizens as regards to this proposed construction.I wrongly imagined that your government would be so much better considering the history of Poland.
@@kenthesparky178 current government is the worst we ever had mate. Drop me an email casualdiyuk@gmail.com and I will send you the link and explain which options are bad for us.
Nice project
One question, when you make the water file the bodies of water are "continuous", but when you cut it they are not, they are cut where the bridges are. How have you changed this?
In Inkscape free software 👍
@@CasualDIY yes
I mean you did it by hand, it's not shown on the video
@@davidgruty yes otherwise the video would be 2h long lol
@@CasualDIY aha
Is it possible that you make a video showing this kind of work?
There are many inkscape tutorials, but they are very generalist... I would like to see how people do a specific task deleting nodes, lines, connecting them, shortcuts...
@@davidgruty hmm that would be a very boring video that most of my viewers are not interested in I'm afraid. There are some good videos out there showing this tho. That's how I learned this 😅
how do you save your files when you done in inkscape my water is not fall out all my land is comming out
In Inkscape you need to close off the water with node tool to create closed areas.
One question: My water all ended up as open shapes, how did you get them to closed shapes so they would cut out?
In the Inkscape software use the Node Tool to close them off
Thats my issue, I can;t figure out how to close them.
@@CasualDIY
They cross over the bounding box, so I can't close them off without screwing up the shape of the box.
@@CasualDIY
When you engrave the local roads on the same sheet of wood as the water, what do you do (or what happens) when a local road crosses a stream/river?
Base level is water, next cutout for water and local roads - if there is a bridge then it will be there just need to make sure it's connected.
@@CasualDIY Yeah, but when the waterways are cut first, the bridges are r shown on the file. The entire waterways will be cut out contiguously and then the roads will be engraved and there won't be anything crossing the water to be engraved on. Or am I just not getting it?
@@robertusm On the same layer you cut the water and engrave the roads. That means on that one file you need to make sure the bridges are there and connected. Ie the water cut out is separated by the bridges. It's one file, one layer for both cutting out water and engraving roads.
@@CasualDIY ok, I thought they were separate layers. Thanks!
@@CasualDIY I see the roads crossing the water on your video, but when I bring the water map into inkscape, the water isn't broken by bridges. When I combine the water and roads layers in Lightburn, it still wants to cut the water first, without bridges and then engraved the roads. What step am I missing?
did you save each file in Inkscape as a simple SVG or something different?
As I used LaserRGBL for this I just saver each file as JPEG
@@CasualDIY interesting so LaserGRBL can use JPEG and cut or engrave with them. I dont think I have that option in lightburn
@@dysongibson4936 Cut lines are separate file, engrave is a separate file. Not all on one file. Lightburn on the other hand allows you to have engraving and cut lines in the same file
are you not mentioning steps? are you saving each layer separately? also, at what point are you cropping out the google watermark and trademark stamps?
Saving each layer individually yes. You can make amendments to the graphic in Inkscape at any point.
It looks great! I can now combine ,y career working with maps and GIS with my woodworking, all I need now is a laser cutter, does anyone want to sponsor me one :)
Hehe start a channel they will sent you one for sure 😅👍
@@CasualDIY I can see it takes a lot of work to maintain this channel, well done.
I must admit I love the idea of CNC and laser, but I've to get my workshop sorted out first
I need to make benches etc.
@@garymorin4813 it does take a lot of effort and hard work, now I wished I've started just a vlog channel 🤣
These are amazing tools and what they can do and how you can utilise them opens a lot of new doors for project opportunities. I could use a CNC to be fair, that paired with my 3D printers and laser engravers would future proof my workshop for a while. Great tools to stream line work and speed things up. Specially if you are a one man band type of a business like me.
Do you also design and sell personal maps to cut out
Currently not
I do. I would love to help.
How can we add text like city name ?
You can add the text to any layer with Inkscape or in Lightburn
Nice English, Tomasz:)
Thank you
Great project, good instructions to follow. Are there any steps skipped? Such as when the text from the bottom is removed and is the water edited? When I create the water vector as instructed, then load it into Lasergrbl it has a square boarder and is not self contained like on yours. Also it is not a PNG file. Any advice? Thanks.
No stepps missed. Just amending the graphic to what I want exactly. One thing you need to be aware of when doing the water cut out is that the water lines need to be closed off to be cut out. Are you using correct settings in lasergrbl? You can adjust few things there that would give something you are saying.
@@CasualDIY Thanks for your reply. The water lines aren't cut off which is giving me the issue and I was struggling to figure it out. Probably easy to do but I am new to this!
@@simonedmundson7271 I have the same problem. And I am sure that there are steps missing... for example closing the water lines and remove the frame around ;) This is exactly what I am currently struggling with also.
But in total a quite good instruction.
On the bottom of your image you have "keyboard shortcuts, map data" etc etc.. but then in the end you got rid of that before you start cutting it out. How did you do that??
Can you drop me time stamps please I will have look what you are after exactly
@@CasualDIY Hi, thanks but i figured it out!
@@CasualDIY I do wanna ask you something else.. how did you manage to get a "frame" around the highway lines in Inkspace?
@@Gary.009I just used the line tool in Inkscape. And then node tool to connect everything
@@CasualDIY You mean the pen tool, straight lines and on the same layer?
very nice but please where are the names of the areas
If you want the names of the areas just make the correct settings in the initial online website I presented
Brother, how have you added the border with the name of the city?
I've done it in Inkscape just draw few straight lines and text
@@CasualDIY do you then merge the layers and then use the trace bitmap?
@@ivandrazic9805 You don't have to trace bitmap afterwards as far as I remember
When you say, "massive square," how much bigger than your actual design?
Sorry which part of the video are you referring to? Could you drop me a time stamp please?
@@CasualDIY 8:09
@@CynergyDiva it's a size of your choice for your final project size
At 2:22 you just BANG are back in the editor and don't show HOW you got back there... VERY confusing. Thanks but this critical step isn't shown.
Sorry its such a trivial and simple thing didn't realise anyone would struggle to navigate the menu...
