I highly agree, his thought process is not just about making a game but actually making the elements in the game make as much sense as possible even if it's a fictional atmosphere.
This game gives me nostalgia of when I just learned about free online multiplayer games. Especially games like supa supa and manga fighter. Can't wait to Play it!
Its fantastic that you and the team took the time to tackle the problems with the limitations in mind. Look at the great result! Can't wait for more of these devlogs.
I love your dev logs so much. The game looks so charming, you're making good game design decisions, and the video is edited in a fun and unique way. Keep it up man!
I want to play this!!! This looks so fun lol. I love the splatoon-hub design! I think that the height-booster for the roll jump is a great idea as you can use it to dodge attacks in more ways. I think normal roll can already help you to go horizontally faster
Very charming, the character design is great alongside the overall art style. I look forward to the new movement mechanics you're working on! Keep up the great work :D
Yaaaaaay!!! I love this! That's exactly what I meant when I commented on your first video. All the little interactions between the player and the animal weapons absolutely sell it. On another subject, the quality of the art and the execution of the graphics is great. Keep up the good work, it's paying off.
Wow what a cool solution! It's so cool how you took all of these limitations and used them to create something that fits so perfectly with the rest of the game. It's crazy how much character you were able to add to these guns through animation. I'm sure a lot of work went into this! This might not be feasible due to the gun friends' proximity to the main characters' heads but, it might be cool to have the guns' heads/ barrels face where the player is aiming even when not actively firing. That way the player knows that the gun is ready to shoot where they are aiming regardless of what direction the character is moving and you might be able to avoid the snapping that happens around 7:55. I know that's really easy for me to say from the peanut gallery but that might help communicate the distinction between the animals and the guns on both a character and gameplay level.
Thanks! And that is something we can look into, but I think it might be easier to just smooth out the transition between when you're shooting and when you stop. I do want the guns to always be facing where you're aiming vertically, but I think we might be able to add it to look where you're looking horizontally too, just limited, to avoid clipping into the players heads like you said!
@@MikMikBrody Haha yeah those both sound like much more reasonable solutions! I imagine the limited motion might be able to work kind of similar to how characters are animated in/on vehicles in games like Halo or GTA where the camera can rotate horizontally without limit but the character is fixed in place and can't fully rotate. Super excited to see what y'all come up with next. Want to just reiterate how impressive it is that you managed squeeze so much personality into these characters. Animating two characters at once is crazy. Animating two characters at once when either of those characters could be interchanged with different characters is insane! Seriously incredible work!
would be interesting if ammo pickup/reload was gun specific: - dive into water to reload sniper rifle - climb tree to collect lizard ammo - fly to reload bird gun - roll in sand to reload crab ammo
The concept art you show off in these videos is always so amazing looking. Have you considered releasing a digital (or physical) artbook once the game is finished? Because that would be something I would totally buy! With money! (Those otter NPCs are super cute btw)
So I absolutely love this concept so much. Just watching gave me a few ideas. Feel free to do whatever you want with these, it’s just really fun to come up with them. Caterpillar - A small caterpillar with a few weak shots, but on the final shot each clip becomes a butterfly, which shoots faster and for more damage Rhino - A charge up weapon that releases a stronger shot the longer its charges Chicken - Releases bouncing explosives that detonate after hitting a enemy, or bouncing two times Cat - It’s tail is a boomerang which will curve towards nearby enemies when thrown Turtle - Throws a shell which bounces off of walls until breaking Owl - Shoots lasers alternating from its left and right eyes Squid - Shoots eight attacks, when they hit directly they slow enemies slightly Also a sub machine gun, a lot of animals could be used for this :D
i love the inspiration from eizin and dragonball. your choice to implement animals as guns adds tons more character. along that thought since you love dk, maybe consider taking that beach hub and adding even more foliage and a half dome skybox (half foliage, half the current hdri) to indicate that your in a more tropical jungle beach setting to add some more cohesion with the animal characters.
too many of the same note but height variety that is as big if not bigger than the buildings. would give the player a compositional tool to look to the top of the buildings not just half way up
@@LtDipstick Great ideas! The city part of the hub will definitely have much more height variety, with roads and bridges going over top and under each other. The skybox is a good idea! And I do want to make big jungle trees that can be climbed up too!
love the new animal guns. and having them run on the character when rolling is some 5 billion iq thinking. Well done zoo strikers team!
hey edit i love watching your own devlogs!
@@ToastedAnimation thanks :D
@@editdev no but seriously, this devlog community is lovely.
Yeah it works really well! They did this in yooka laylee too

Such a funny style, it all works together perfectly!
So hyped for the beta
Maybe you could make the swordfish move like a dolphin dancing vertically over you when you are rolling
I'll have to look it up!
The guns hitting the walls and leaving a layer of fruit makes me think Splatoon
Nice bro! It looks like a game that you would see on the Nintendo Switch. Keep going I can't wait to see the final product!
Thanks! That would be awesome if we could get it on switch!
those animal robot guns is a genius idea
