I for one am a big fan of 4x snapcaster 4x lightning bolts are showing up.
5:05 "Force players to interact in a different way" so remember you can always cast "I eat your card" in response for free at instant speed!
Can't wait for the solitaire vs. solitare matchups
How exactly does Trinisphere stop ruby storm when you yourself said they often win on turn 2 ???
All his takes are L quality.
You go first, drop Ugin's Labyrinth T1, then land Trinisphere T2. Actually very common
As someone playing ruby storm yes it CAN win on t2 but often you don't and it's a t3-4 win
So basically tron can stop ruby storm with trinisphere....
Damping sphere is probably a better bet at 2 cmc
No offence bro but I can’t take meta game info from a video that’s gotten the main cards colours wrong
Which cards are you referring to?
@@vOid-tl3tj Nardu, he called it bant like three time and said you play it as bant in commander.
Its simic, not bant
@@dittmar104I think you misheard some things, the modern deck is bant and called bant Nadu it’s literally on screen at the beginning
Isn’t turn 1 grief/not dead after all take 2 combo pieces still insane?
Yeah let me interact with nadu in different ways. Whoops can’t counter it cuz of halfling. Whoops targeted removal draws them cards and allows them more chances at answers. Whoops board wipes are too slow to deply before nadu goes off or has a counterspell.
Play Harsh Mentor problem solved
@@samedi7470 That card is so bad; it only does anything vs Nadu. Only red decks can play it, and having one single answer isn't enough to keep Nadu in check because you won't see a single 4 of enough.
OP wanted something to interact with Nadu. I gave him a card.
Collector ouphe, Stony silence, Pick your poison, Run Afoul, Pithing needle, Plague Engineer interact as well.
@@samedi7470 plague engineer, now I like that idea 😀
Harsh mentor
is there any uptick on energy decks in the modern meta post MH3 release?
Nooooooo thanks. I'll take midrange matchups over the bad old days of combo v combo amy day.
I don't know anything outside of Pauper anymore, but Nadu seems extremely unhealthy. Might just be people wanna try out the new stuff cause it's fun and exciting, similar to Refurbished Familiar, Sneaky Snacker, and Writhing Chrysalis in Pauper, and maybe the meta settles with counter strategies to beat these new popular things. But... probably not lol
The only issues with alot of this data is it is online play mostly. Online formats keep up with triggers and mana whereas in paper you have to keep up. Nadu in paper is probably going to see more play than storm on paper.
I heard that its possible something in the Ral and Nadu decks will get banned.
I think Shuko would get banned.
Not really sure what in the Ral deck would get banned though.
Sure the deck can win turn 2
How to stop it?
Fatal push kills ral
Free counters like sublty help
Well timed discard/scam
Tax peices like thalia (5 color humans come back when?)
a well spoken and heavily detailed argument about nothing. this video could be a tweet
I don't really get the appeal of playing a deck with no removal. It's like you're playing solitaire with someone who's just there to try to frustrate or or it's two ships passing in the night.
Shhhhh...let em. 😂
Not that I even get to play Modern anymore, seeing as how it's all Commander, all the time near me. But even so, any meta that has Titan and Tron at the top benefits my 5C ramp combo deck. Let them continue to not maindeck removal. 😈
Control player solidarity!
@@Xoulrath_ Tron is surprisingly more like a control deck now with the new cards compared to storm and nadu which have absolutely nothing to stop you.
@@luthix3314 Tron has always been a control deck. Anyone who played it otherwise failed it lol.
It's wild to me that people are torn on actually playing removal. Magic has always been a game of give and take, trading resources.
Coming back to Modern after a 10 year break is like pulling teeth... I have absolutely no idea what's going on and what's good anymore.
WTF happened to Jund? Why isn't Bloom Titan dead?? Where's Deaths Shadow and Affinity makes no damn sense now.
Back when I played Modern they had just banned my baby Splinter Twin RIP you beautiful card. And I played the hell out of Jund. Now Goyfs are sub $20??? WTF happened while I was gone???
You're really expecting things to stay the same after 10 years?
Bloom Titan died a long time ago friend. Mana cheat w amulet is still very good though
Honestly if they go after Nadu they just ban shuko and that’ll probably be enough to control it
Agreed. Ban Shuko and see what happens. There’s still lightning greaves but that’s nowhere near as strong as something that can get pooped out of saga
Been enjoying watching the Murktide lists I like to use do well, the combo matches play out quick and interesting like ya said, you either have the answer, or ya don’t
We will have a few months of excitement while people try a number of builds but at some point the best strategies will be found and then we will have rock, paper, scissors by fall.
This meta is similar to what made humans good before too. Og humans with Efficient constant threats that had a lot of taxes and control for the combo decks. Maybe I'll bust out og humans too. Maybe ever bust out mill combo
well taxes is popping off again so it is not a stretch to think humans could comeback.
@naiustheyetti it's about the same sort of meta that made humans pip before, bring back booters and meddling mage. Playset of Thalia. Sometimes you don't need more aggressive per say but more annoying.
Deafening silence type cards are extremely effective against Storm
Your content keeps getting better, sir
You lost me the moment you said a turn 2 kill is healthy.
Naw. I don't want to play budget legacy. This format died when they said they'd no longer be balancing sets around it.
23 seconds - that’s a new first for me!
😂😂😂
She was that good?
@@jamesoakley9333 ayo?
You keep calling Nadu a bant card, it is only simic lol, the bant shells in modern exist just for stoneforge to tutor shuko.
But man i miss my grixis shadow
been playing grixis shadow for the past week or so, and it's still really strong. Funnily enough, it has a really good Nadu matchup. I've gone against Nadu maybe 10 times and only lost twice
I hope WOTC just doesn't come again and just kills storm again. They just seem to hate storm...
Nadu isnt bant.
No turn 2 wins and Nadu isn’t healthy for Modern, you are talking about legacy bull
Turn 2 wins aren't healthy for legacy either 💀
@@lordsauron8546 yeah give us the hate to hate it out and force them to interact. midrange should be king. As it is the healthiest way to play the game. I'm mainly talking about jund, which is funny as jund is still going lol
@@czairkolmoslink5952 I understand! I wish Tarmo and boomer Jund in general was as relevant as it was back in the day, but I guess to quote Terminate "all suns must set..."
Maybe one day my Legacy Slivers deck will be 0.1% of the meta, lmaoo
Ahahhahahahahaah thats why i dont play modern i play only commander now .
Please ban shuko
Fury needs to come back
He11 no, Fury can't fix this and would oppress any competitive Aggro deck that might emerge in Modern beside burn.
@@jasonkorf7700”might emerge” doesn’t mean fury would be currently oppressive. Notice how all the x/1 based decks didn’t suddenly make a comeback with a fury ban? Kind of shows that fury wasn’t the problem.
@ecpracticesquad4674 Hardened Scales and Burn are more playable than they were with Fury in the format. Just because Wotc also decided to put Orcish Bowmaster into the format to deal with x/1's doesn't mean Fury wasn't oppressive and wasn't a problem.
Modern is so expensive so mutch friends going in to legacy to not bleed money all the time horizon or some other Set comes around legacy is a dead Format for wizards so it makes fun to play like commander before wizards targetet it
Have you heard of this wonderful invention called punctuation?
here for the drama and I don't even play modern
And then there was no drama. Just a nice analysis of the current meta which he (and I) think is quite healthy. :)
Same i quit modern after opal
😂
How does one achieve that level of happiness
i swear if some1 says Nadu is bant 1 more time imma shit ur pants
Bant Nadu seems to be the best version tho, what's the problem?
Idk but alot of people seem to think nadu's color identity is bant and not simic. i have never had to say to so many people no nadu is simic and they then say no u need white mana to cast it and afther they look ik up there dumbfounded for some reason. idk but it just annoy me for some reason that people rant on about a card they dont even know the casting cost of.
But ty for reading my deranged rant.
@@philcoats6812 bro literally said people are splashing white just to play Nadu
Hmm, well, I guess certain circles are different, because the people I talk to are just on and on about, Oko, Uro, Nadu 1 colorless 1 green 1 blue is the most broken mana cost in the history of magic.
@@philcoats6812don't forget Risen Reef. Its a ridiculous value engine with almost the same effect as Nadu, just with elemental ETBs. It lowkey made 4c Omnath decks even more busted. 1GU truly is the most infuriating mana cost
I just want magic to be affordable
LOL we're more likely to see Pauper Masters drop before that happens!
It's sad reading this comment because we all want that, but it's not happening.
I built a commander deck for like 40 bucks and it works pretty well its extremely affordable as long as its commander.
Hasbro disagrees bro
At this point, what's even the excuse to keep Splinter Twin banned?
Facts
Idk I think we should let the metagame play itself out there are sooooo many amazing answers/check cards in modern. I think this is all gonna be flavor of the week and it'll be fine.
I just wish my LGS would do 60 card formats again
Man I agree with this. I do enjoy commander but sometimes I just wanna sit down not worry about power level and just club someone to death with a well tuned pile of 60 cards
@@andrewpalella9923that’s why I’ve slowly been playing more cedh. Still has the table politics, but everyone understands winning is the priority
@@andrewpalella9923You still have to worry about power level in 60 card formats
all I know is winter+torpor+mesmiric orbs
Here we go again..... Lol Wait i don't see mill anywhere.... Ohh right... Its Mill
Hi ! always known you from your shorts, it's the first time heading to an actual video. Super informative and you're very charismatic!!
For a player like me who doesnt know much of the modern metagame, maybe add some cards you're talking about on screen ? just a proposition.
Take care, and I just noticed you publish around a vid per day, that's so cool ! Keep it up, wishing you a good day, mate :3
take what a said with a grain of salt, lol, you explain the big majority of cards while listing them. Ig it's just for me, not knowing some niche modern card xD. cheers!
The Meta Hivemind has decided.
Enough said.
So...i want a format called "traditional" or "boomer" or "fixedmistake"
Which would be modern without sets printed into it...modern horizons cards are about 60% of the top decks cards
Scam? Ragavan, voidwalker, bowmaster (lotr is modern horizons 2.5) and not to meantion grief and the banned fury!
All MH3 did for me was make my shukos worth money, time to trade some in, literally have 7 sitting in a box in my nerd room, maybe turn em into fetches that tanked due to mh3 as well, #comeup
Happy to see combo back on the menu
People arent complaining about nadu in edh because its easy to build they are complaining because it leads to 10 minute durdle turns.
Sadly the scam decks are the one beating combos ~
Sadly the scam decks are the one beating combos ~
Uhh anyone instantly see the problem of two decks occupying 50% of the modern meta? This isn’t an example of the metagame this is an example of card kingdom fudging their numbers in order to generate more card sales during the peak of yearly sales.
And coupled with the factor there will be tons of brewing whenever a new set is related especially with on that has many spicy cards.
It's clearly an edited screenshot. You can see the number of different lists for the two decks isn't equal at all. Plus it's taken from mtggoldfish not cardkingdom.
An the set just came out it takes a while to die down with all the new decks become most popular to try
Well said, once again great video!
Not a modern player, but if ruby storm is here to stay, may Taxes have a comeback? 1 Thalia evens out 1 Ral/Ruby and things like silence or Orim's chant shuts that down as well.. Just saying. Because if taxes becomes viable i may just try modern.
Something to keep in mind regarding Storm being back...almost every Storm hatecard played all the back to Vintage is Modern-legal, yet I've barely been seeing any cards like Deafening Silence/High Noon, Mindbreak Trap, Flusterstorm, etc. So there's a part of me that wonders if Storm is going to become like old pre-Mox Opal ban Affinity and Dredge, where they are *absolutely* powerful decks that can easily spike an event if enough people stop packing the hate for them, but because of how many powerful hate cards there are for those strategies, they don't necessarily unbalance the whole format.
I'm new in MTG, the prices are so astronomical I decided to play Arena and drawing by hand cards I would like to play
Modern Mistake, Version 3. Don't really know why anybody is surprised, honestly
Old storm could turn 2 win also .
You just need one more morphosis.
Mh3 is the rotation of the format , better buy in
