    For anyone who needs it: I used a paper clip (bent it into a small hook) to open the back and then used a needle to push the little thing away as I was pulling up the shaft and it worked! No need for dentist tool :)

    I know this video is a few years old, but this really helped a lot! I was struggling for a few hours getting the metal rod through, without knowledge of the detent spring! I took Chris' advice of using a bobby hair pin as the hook, and it worked really well! It took several tries but it worked eventually! Thank you for this video, I probably would have bought a brand new body for my film camera without realizing the problem was fixable all along!

      Hi, so are you saying a bobby pin worked for pushing the spring out of the way? I've been trying for an hour with a paper clip and no luck. Tired of trying!

    Can anyone think of creative alternatives to the rewind knob itself - the handle that flips back on itself? mine has fallen off in transit and its too much of a small part to buy again.

      Hi Tuany, I had the same issue. I had to get a flat head screw driver and go into a very dark room. In this case my kitchen which has no windows or lights on. I released the film door similar to the way recommended in the video took out the spool and very carefully rewound the film with the screwdriver. Good luck

    • @therealchickentender

      Depends on which K1000.... they were made for a long time - there are different versions of the spindle/crank-cap-knob.
      The knob from an ME should work fine on some of them but not all.

    • @eyewandersfoto
      @eyewandersfoto 2 роки тому

      You mean if the spindle fell through? (the knob can't)
      You can use a bent paperclip or bobby pin to reach into the shaft and pull up on the release at the bottom (he shows how in the video).

    I even went out and got a dental tool and I still cannot get the rod past the detens screw. The spring is too strong, even when I push it aside it springs back into place too fast and catches the rod in the first notch, rather than allowed it to slide past to the middle section. Has anyone else had this problem, or am I doing something wrong?

    • @K3nn3th
      @K3nn3th 6 років тому +2

      I sanded one side of the screw which catches onto the spring which made it easier for a small screw driver i used for glasses to push the spring out of the way
