Okaaaay… lets say your PC broke down.. but you wanna wait half a year for the next GPU gen… half a year renting a pc with a 4060 will probably be like 400-500 bucks… absolutely acceptable for your HOBBY and a nice way to bridge time if money isn’t a concern… When you consider a solid 2k PC should last you 4 years the math adds up, considering all things altogether. And if you can afford a 2k plus gaming PC every 4 years, you can afford this too. If not, I am said to say you picked the wrong market entirely to begin with… before I buy a 1k Pc I rather buy myself a PS5 and a Switch lol… Another great scenario, you wanna test a RIG for a longer time period (2 months for example), or even a Pc to begin with. It’s a niche setup which justifies high profit margins and is a great thing given us consumers more options and flexibility. They should add solo hardware renting to their model. Even more flexibility and possibly thus more customers for NZXT and you can just rent a GPU for a year when yours dies and you don’t want a new one now but neither stop playing games…

At $99 a month there are a lot of good pre build companies that just charge that as the pay over time option. I have seen between about $70 to $120 a month depending on the specs and have only ever seen higher then that when they are doing it in only 4 to 8 payments rather then say 12 to 24. Cyberpower has an option for a system with a 13900kf and a 4090 in it for $112 a month. Though I suppose if this rent a PC plan works out for NZXT then you could in theory just keep renting and upgrading to new models as they come out at the same offered price rather then when you pay off the system you may be at a point you are ready to upgrade again if you are always going for the highest end options.
True, but there's more demographics than just people looking to buy a pc. Imagine you're traveling and need a decent rig to work on. Or maybe you can't afford a PC at all and just want to use one for a bit as a treat to yourself. Maybe you want to do some video editing, but it's not something you do often. A friend is visiting and you want to game with them. Or You need to test software on something other than your main comp.
Well I would say that if you are traveling enough that you need a decent rig to work on while you are traveling then there are plenty of powerful laptops out there that you likely would have or should get to facilitate such work while traveling. And there are even payment plans for those these days. If you are interested in video editing and have no computer at all you can get a rater inexpensive one and still do it. Your render times may be long but does not mean you cant give it a try. Also many local libraries have decent enough computers and the software to do video editing. Of course your renders will have to be short enough that you dont have to leave it running after hours. If you are going to have a friend visit and you have enough time in advance to know that you are going to be playing PC games together and you have enough time for the system to arrive then your friend should be able to bring their own PC or laptop with them. If it was not planned then unless they are staying a long time the rented PC likely wont show up in time to get much game time, and you should just find other stuff to do. If they just cant bring one or dont have one and that is what you want to do and have it planned out then yes that is a case where a rented PC might make sense. If you need to test software on other systems you can use a VM to do that. If you need something more powerful than what your PC can handle in a VM environment to test it on then what are you programming? My main issue with the rented PCs is the price point just being the same per month as you could just buy a new one for from most venders at their pay over time rates. And if you cant afford to pay for it for more then a couple of months then you likely should not be spending that money on renting a PC. You are likely better off saving up a bit and just getting a Playstation or Xbox at that point. I will give you that it works for a planned out LAN party when people cant bring a computer with them for one reason or another. It would also work for if you need it for a project because you dont have something as powerful as what you can rent, but I still say that if you are a student your school should have what you need, and if you are not a student then you may be trying to be a bit too ambitious for your first project(s) that would require a system like one you can rent. (Unless you have nothing I suppose) The last thing I can kind of think of for going with a rental would be if you are thinking about upgrading your PC and for $100 want to try out what you would be upgrading too to see if it is worth the price of the upgrade or not.

idk it depends if you straight up stop paying or were paying for awhile and decided to not pay, i got a gaming laptop from rent a centre awhile ago and long story short, they started making me pay more than i alr paid bc i didint finish by the deadline and i had put more money into it then it even cost just renting it so i just kept it instead of paying off the last 300-400$ and they didint do jack, never even got a call and they didint sent any collectors or nothing
My mom took half of rent a center back in the day. Credit is now non existent lol. Renting anything that isn’t a car or your rent is truly a loss especially for normal people.
You forgot to mention they will also charge market value for everything at best so it will be extremely expensive... At least a couple thousand if not a few
"You'll own NOTHING and BE happy" comes to mind hahaha
I bet this is going to work out well for them. People will likely rent the thing for a year and be offered a buy out price
It’s 9 main components juts need to buy each one by one then you’ll have. A pc worth having
Seen this before people open fake credit cards and cancel it and take the pc this happened to our company and lost thousands
It’s like having a gaming pc without the gaming pc perks
People don't realize there are different kinds of debt.
Some are harmless and you are fully protected from them ever becoming predatory... Others like this would entail are the very scary ones that will eventually rackup enough debt to come after your entire life; Your house, your things, and even your paycheck will fall victim to it and when I say paycheck and I mean some of the money from it will go straight to them without you even touching it.
this is an awesome feature ngl
Scammers: hold my beer
"They will send a collection agency"
Aka they will send their goons after you
I don’t need to read a contract to understand theft. 😂😂😂
This is why you use an anonymous Visa gift card that doesn’t have your name or zip code on it.
a collection agency cant force you to pay only thing they can do is sue but for what price only few thousand dollar pc when a law suit cost probably way more
If my social security ain’t involved that shit getting stolen no face no case
You could ask for one thats at the end of its renting live cycle. (Hopefully not as blunt as my words.)
rent it for a time and than ask them if they give you a good deal on it.
Cancelling a credit card in an attempt to get a free pc (an attempt that will ultimately fail) is on a whole different level of dumb things you can do
Not going to lie I still go a box set from Netflix when it was movie rentals don’t know how I got it but I got it 😂
Nice concept but the price is not worth it at all, its only a year before it actually costs more than buying one.
