    Well, I never thought I'd see anything about this on your channel, but very cool. I was the president of the pétanque club at my high school in Memphis, TN

    This was loads of fun to watch. I play petanque here in Brazil. My neighbours' son lives in France and brought them a kit with the boules and the cochonnet . We play it every now and then. It's lots of fun.

    Thanks a lot for that video. As a french, I greatly appreciate it. You scored really nice. I'm such a bad and inconsistent pétanque payer, but at least I learnt to lose with style :D. The most important is to have fun, and it looks like you had a lot.

    The “piglet” or “jack” is the boccino or pallino with Bocce in Italy.

      Many many great memories of childhood holidays with "boche" I can still hear the stone ball hit the wooden end off the playfield.

    I used to play bocce downstairs in bar in St. Paul at Half Time Rec, and at bar whose name I've forgotten in the connected alley in downtown Minneapolis. Usually, the bet was for the next round.
    Good, glorious fun! I am glad you enjoyed yourself.

    Great video, I'm glad you had a nice time on your trip to Paris. I played a lot of bocce at family gatherings growing up, which is a very similar game and it's a lot of fun. Incidentally, I studied French for a while a few years ago and even with the repeated coaching of a close friend who's from France, I could not get the hang of that r. lol

    Great video. Looks like you had lots of fun. I'm french Canadian and this game reminds me of my grandfather. He used to play petanque with his friends in the park where he lived in a little rural town in the province of Quebec . Great memories, I miss him dearly.

    So much fun Beth, you looked like you enjoyed it very much! I occasionally play English bowls but obviously there’s a huge difference, Pétanque doesn’t need anywhere special to play it, makes it much easier to get a game going! We should take this up in the UK, but no doubt it would get stopped because of the steel balls 🙄

    Didn't play that game, but did play some more traditional Bowles games in the summer I spent in the village of Aloxe-Corton in Cote door in 72! The big game among the village youth was a match of spirited co-ed volleyball after work and before supper. The wine in that village is superb by the way, Le Corton and Le Charlemagne!

    Every time Beth said "boules" I heard "bulls," so I was picturing a game where really strong people were literally throwing bulls.

  • @rybock
    @rybock 2 роки тому

    I knew it as 'boule', and I learned it in the south of France. The metal balls take me back, because American sets are colored and not quite the same. I remember playing with this very nice old gentleman in St. Maxime that my Swedish grandfather knew... I'm 6 or 8 or so, so it's just some guy my grandfather knows. But, it was Prince Bertil, uncle of the current king of Sweden, I later figured out.

    You should travel to Provence to get a real feel for pétanque. The banter between the players is a big part of the attraction. When you understand what they mean when they ask "tu tires ou tu pointes," you have really become part of the pétanque community.
    p.s. The official drink is pastis.
