Hey there Driver. So glad you took the time to check out this evening's video. It was very different for me being on the other side of the camera. Did I cover everything in the video? Any thing I left out? "I think I said CD'S in the video, when I should have said cassette tapes." Oopsy.

Just a thought, what about going back and reposting all of Dave's advice content from the beginning? It may keep it current in the UA-cam algorithm and generate more views. Plus, it's some of the best timeless trucker advice out there

Shortly after I got my CDL license I started watching Dave's videos for advice and guidance. One night after I'd had a few beers and was feeling a little emotional I left a long comment about how my deceased father had been a truck driver and I wanted to make him proud. I couldn't believe that Dave actually responded to my babbling comment and told me that he was sure that my dad would be proud. Now I'm just hoping that I make Dave proud.
I would have never guessed that he enjoyed listening to some of the same types of music that I did back in the day.
Thank you for making this video and sharing some of his personal belongings with us. Personal connections aren't often associated with UA-cam content creators and audiences but you and Dave have been an exception to that rule.

Man we all lost someone with his passing. He was your grandpa, your uncle, your dad, he touched so many of us in so many ways that someone would be proud to have just one of those avenues covered. I learned so much from him that would take me 10 years to figure out. God broke the mold with Dave. I know he made videos and I haven’t met him in person, but what he’s accomplished doing what he loved not a lot of people can do. Dave always stuck out in my head as the immediate go to guy for advice. He had the answer to everything. He was a rockstar and an absolute master of his craft. I would watch every single piece of content he created, start to finish. And I never ever got bored of soaking up any piece of advice he gave. One of a kind doesn’t do Dave justice. He was beyond that. He was in a league of his own. I have to applaud you guys for keeping his legacy going, if I lost someone like him I would shut everything down and try to pick up the pieces. And honestly I don’t think I’d be able to. You and your son are just as amazing for wanting to keep everything going. Forever have our respect for all of you.

He was a wealth of information about trucking. He was interested in the industry, the politics of the industry, the business part of trucking, but most of all 'passionate' about the 'journey of the truck driver', and helping drivers get the most out of their career.

I know it may be hard for you Cathy, but for those of us who followed Dave and Smart Trucking for years could you or Nick please 🙏🏻 give us some type of closure as to what happened to Dave. I’m so sorry for your loss 😢. All the trucking he did over the years and from the stories Dave told (“story time”) which was my favorite I always thought 💭 he must have a magnificent wife at home 🏡 to stick with him through all those trucking years. God bless you and your family!

I find it rather sad to hear about Dave being spoken about in the past tense, I don’t think I will ever get used to it. I’m so glad that I got to know him as well as you and Nick here on this channel. Dave and I had a lot of similar experiences especially while trucking in California. He’d bring up Bruce’s Truck Stop in Bakersfield and I’d say, “oh yeah, I remember that place” or I’d mention Rip Griffin and how we all jokingly called it “Ripoff Griffin” even though it really wasn’t a ripoff, we just liked to call it that. 😂 Dave was a good guy and I really do miss him. I hope that you guys are all doing as well as can be expected. Thanks for keeping Dave’s memory and legacy alive. Also, I saw April Wine in concert back in 1981, great show! I also like Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and Alice In Chains. My favorite band of all time (and Dave knew this) was a brilliant little 3 piece band from Toronto, RUSH!

SoCal. That's so cool for me to know. Even your music tastes were similar. 👍♥ He valued his friendship with those who attended the regular LiveStreams. Dave never referred to you or those others by their real names... Always the UA-cam Handle, much like a CB handle I guess. During some of those streams (and after), we'd laugh so hard at the silliness and fun we had. Good times for sure. Miss those times like you would not believe. Thanks for the kind words, SoCal.❤❤

God bless you and yours! Im sorry for your loss! For the worlds loss also! And especially for the loss he will be to the youngsters! He taught them a lot of things that they used to could learn from an old timer on the cb radio back in the day! Ive been driving for 51 years, about the 2nd time I listened to him I subscribed! He was the epitome of what a truck driver was back in the day when we were all respected and our actions earned it!!! Sure going to miss his stories most of all !!! But even more the loss of a truly good individual whose love for other drivers and his fellow human beings was very evident! I will stay tuned! God Bless you all!!! God Bless the USA and keep on trucking!

The more I see of Dave's clips, and now with this video, the more I realise he and I had in common .... and probably the more we were different. ONE thing I know is that I think I woulda really liked him, if we ever met.

It looks like some of the stuff that I have collected over the many years from the electronics, to the straps, the wire ties, tools, and doo dads!

Lots of 'doo-dads' Roger, that's for sure. Thousands and thousands of them.... My grandfather had a toolshed, and Dave set up his shop just like my Grandfather's... he was a trucker too.

I’m just a little confused with the truck(s). This blue Peterbuilt is beside this storage trailer. Is there a black one at another location? Such as, another location? Glad you’re continuing these vids. Thank you.

I dont know what your plans for the Pete is, but woud be a great option to raffle it. Donate some of the money to a truckers charity and keep some to help your family out.

Also if at any point your willing to part with Dave's truck I would recommend you contact the Iowa 80 truck stop so they can put it in their museum. They have trucks on display they don't own, so you could loan it to them for public display.
Dave gained a big following on UA-cam. Im pretty sure that Iowa 80 would love to put it on display with a plaque in their museum talking about him and his history.
The Iowa 80 museum maintains every truck in pristine condition. If you ask them about displaying it and they put it in their museum it will not be outside sitting somewhere to degrade. They can immortalize his truck and memory in their museum for generations to see long after drivers are replaced by autonomous trucks.
If you loan it to them for display you will not be giving up the truck, you will still own it and they will keep it from degrading preserving it for your heirs. Please don't let his old girl go to a junkyard or someone that won't take care of it. Please consider asking the Iowa 80 truck stop if they will display it in their museum.

    GerDay Catherine (and Nick).
Firstly, I am sooooo glad to see you're continuing Dave's channel. Doubtless it might take a different format, simply because there will only ever be one of him, however I'm damned sure you can visit your own perspective.
I have to say that when you picked up the bolt cutters and mumbled "Bolt cutters weigh more than I do" I 'bout had to chuckle, then when you struggled to cut the lock, you had me chuckling again. So far, the video is generally serious (only into it a couple of minutes) but it's easy to see how (or why) Dave loved you! This IS a sad and difficult time, but so far in this clip you are presenting as so personable. More comments to follow!
BTW, please feel free to remove/delete/whatever my comments as I suffer badly for big fat feet in mouth disease!

Nothing to correct here my friend. Thank you for the wonderful support and kind words. It was hard doing the video. I had to be in the right mindset to do it. I am planning on doing the same style of video with the truck... that one I am not looking forward to really. That will be more of a challenge for my emotions for sure. That truck has been part of our lives for a long time..... and every time I look at it, I can picture Dave driving it, or working on it.

      @@SmartTrucking GerDay again, Catherine.
      On reflection …..
Naturally, for those of us who didn’t know Dave but vicariously through this channel, the perspective is completely different to yours. It is very remiss of me to pontificate about “keeping his dream alive” or some such is from OUR perspective because we see it as such a valuable community resource. What we DON’T see/take into account is the fact that recording videos most probably tears the very heart and soul from you.
Perhaps recording clips MAY assuage the hell you’re going through, or, perhaps, it may exacerbate it. Either way, only you can know that. Regardless, my thoughts and prayers remain extended to you and don’t worry about what we punters “demand”, because in the final analysis you need to do what’s right for you,and I certainly support you in any case.
Just don’t feel obligated, but also know that at least this old fart knows you would and could do him proud.
And you know what? If you do break down when you get around to filming the truck clip I’ll bet not a single Mong out here would feel any less.
Now I should shut up before I change feet!!!!!
      Kindest regards
      Indy

Hey Outbacktraveller. I got a good chuckle from your comments. I appreciate your perspective on this. I do plan to keep the channel going. Honestly, as hard as it is to watch the videos we've created over the years, for the most part, it's been a comfort for me. Nick and I feel that sharing the story is the right thing to do. Thank you for allowing us to share our story and being supportive. It means alot. So many people, like you didn't meet Dave in person, but still feel a strong bond and connection with him. He was just that kind of guy. Humble. A trucker. No frills. Nothing fancy. Just Dave. Sharing his trucking journey. We hope to fill in some of the gaps and continue the journey. Hugs to you. ❤❤❤❤❤

He seemed to like the Cobra 29s in that little foot warmer that went with it CB radios are a lifesaver on the road and I believe they should be mandated in trucks even though I believe we have too many mandates that would be a good one
