I have done 6+ canoe trips on portions of the Churchill River. I started in 1996 (+,-). Early on, the portages were in good shape. But my last couple of trips, slightly before COVID, I found the portages much more difficult, mainly because they were not well used, and therefore, not well maintained by the users. I did encounter someone on Lac LaRonge who said he had written a book on canoeing the Churchill River, but had not encountered anyone else doing canoeing for several years. At the time I felt highly complimented by him, but then I learned there was a downside of his compliment - the portages were much more difficult then than in the 1990s. Beavers can be big part of the portage problem when they are not used. On one or two occasions my portages were obliterated by beavers building dams and swamping the area that makes the possibility of the portage highly questionable - I have turned back a couple of times for fear of a broken leg when going through a "swamp" area with wood fall on the "ground" under my feet in the water.
Wow, nice video, thanks!
Beautifully shot and edited video, I really appreciated the map overview of the area.

Loved the vid! Always wanted to do this trip! Thanks for bringing out the beauty of the route!
Nice post. Like your canvas spray covers.
Would it help to have wheels for the portages between Pine House and Missinipe
thank so a lot for your video it helps a great deal.
Where did you find the route, did you have a map of the canoe route
Search for Saskatchewan historic canoe route #18. There is info at Churchill River canoe outfitters website. They sell maps too.
Nice Canoe. 👍
Love the intro maps. Great videography. Wish you weren’t so camera shy...
Thanks. Not shy, just keeping the focus on the place instead of me.
