Yeah, the same investors who rushed the release are the same who are crying about costs now. I can't imagine how expensive was to get the game in proper shape. They set the company's reputation on fire and now are paying the price in form of diminished returns, how surprising.

I don't think the investors should be blamed for the launch issues. At the end of the day it was CDPR who set the release date. Although, I think CDPR definitely deserves praise for allowing devs 3 year to work on the expansion and 2.0. That shit was expensive and I bet they knew investors wouldn't love it, but they did it anyway

@@JuiceHead3 this was actually fairly well known, it became an ironic story of how corpos in night city are the villains, and corpos (the investors) are responsible for torching the reputation CDPR spent years building with pro-consumer moves with the witcher and the expansions "We leave the greed to others". There's not a chance any of the developers wanted it to go out in the state it was back in 2020. They wanted it to release so they could capitalise on the Christmas buying period.

Yep, and I super agree with CDPR that new games are really the way forward with the franchise. One or two DLCs is always good but I would eventually get bored with CBP2077 if they did more than they already have. They need to explore new people's stories, and expand on the RPG elements, but this setting has an absolute boatload of potential for it.

They've got the books, songs, anime, toys, statues, etc. Continuing to expand on this is definitely a good move in my opinion. There's a ton to explore in this universe created back in the 80's.

In theory, they could even bring in some more witcher Easter eggs or a couple of side missions. • @alispeed5095
      @alispeed5095 Рік тому

@@effyeadude Yeah just imagine what they can do with Star ciitzen funding? Likely not much since they have now essentially become a AAA dev studio. With there move to the US solidifying this fact. Even a billion dollars would be swallowed up by the now massive devpt costs there games are going to have. There love for using celebrities doesnt help this issue in anyway.
And that comes with all the issues we see with other AAA game studios (bugs, cut content, lack of polish etc) due to the companies focus being warped by the relentless desire to maximize profit.
I personally think they they would have done better by remaining a smaller down to earth studio. Games can have smaller scope but still be remarkable. Look at baldurs gate 3? Had they remained back in poland, limited the level of power they allowed the suites. I think they would be a beloved studio for years to come similar to Fromsoft. Money isnt it all. Elden ring was just 200m yet its one of the greatest games ever created.

Now they are investing in the mid to long term, which will pay more dividends, but the lack of immediacy repels investors. They want more money each year, with low production costs, like Activision. It’s simply another asset a company can leverage, how they leverage is up to them.
Being privately owned seems more transparent and morally correct, because the health of the company is solely derived from the product they sell. However… what if the product is bad (like CP2077 was at launch), one bad launch can destroy your company. Also, with leveraging stock, they might be able to merge with other companies, advertise more attractive employee benefits, get loans that they otherwise couldn’t, and declare losses to avoid paying taxes they were already going to pay. Imagine, if CB2077 was released today with all the bell's and whistles that 2.0 has and probably more, it could have been touted as one of the greatest games ever. No comeback stories or whatsoever, just straight up people and the critics praising this game. They could have charged extra on those "free dlcs" we got and people wouldn't mind paying because that's how great it is. From their reputational perspective they shouldn’t have launched on the PS4, but considering it was impossible to get a PS5 for so long, I think many who owned a PS4 and couldn’t afford or get anything else got to enjoy the game. As the story was equally good on any platform. They should have maybe been upfront with a refund policy on it and had a warning that it’s not PS4 optimised so “buy it but get a refund if you don’t like it”.

@@pressrepeat2000 I dunno. I mean for the most part there's nothing about the game that couldn't be done on PS4 any less that any other open world game. The open world, the missions, the combat all worked to a degree. I think the problem was just they didn't spend the time bug testing and ironing out certain sharp edges. Sure I couldn't get a PS5 for years, but I had a PC, not the strongest it runs the game at 45-50fps at custom settings, but I didn't consider switching to it until they started changing things about the engine that requires more or faster RAM like upgrading the NPC ai and in the end it was the bugs introduced by the _patches_ that made me switch. Even 2.0 has a few quirks that we forgive and if it had run that well no one would have freaked out. In the end the free upgrade from PS4 to PS5 once I got one made things right. I didn't want a refund I just wanted to play the _game._

I think there's a part glossed over on the 100 mil for phantom liberty. It included the costs for 2.0 update. Which the level of work done for the revamp, is undoubtedly a significant part of cost. Breaking that down due to the large overlap for accounting purposes would be difficult. Still not ideal but it definitely changes how that should be looked at.

The drop in share price make perfect sense and is certainly NOT about being "punished for investing in quality" as some way too cynical people put it. They're being punished for not being able to stick to their own budgets and for investing and expanding extremely heavily into a very risky future where no other project seem to even close to completion. Investors now have very little to properly gauge that future on for CDPR other than what CDPR is saying about it. Remember all things they said about Cyberpunk 2077 original? They have NOT delivered on that in terms of game or investments.
Investing in CDPR right now is very high risk even long term. There is no guarantee their next big release whenever it come out will be good enough and certainly not cost effective enough. Their track record right now is not impressive. The original cyberpunk was a complete disaster and now they going way over budget. The stock market is simply adjusting a more fair valuation of the company given the extreme high risk environment video gaming is.
Remember gamers you not the only ones that was fooled by the hype.

A perfect example of why the customers (players) and the shareholders are not the same target groups, sometimes they actually may have opposite targets. Meaning, is many cases if the company wants to please stakeholders, it has to hurt the players, and vice versa. Needless to say most companies choose to (or are actually forced to) please the shareholders. The system is flawed at its roots.

@@JuiceHead3 Expanding on this, investors are dumb when it comes to video games and what makes them enjoyable to consumers. They may even be dumb for many of the products and services they invest in.
This is going be the truth unless they actually engage with the products and services they invest in.
Let's be realistic here, in a few generations maybe a fair number of investors will actually engage in video games. Right now, I don't think that's the case. Because I think a large number of investors grew up before video gaming starting becoming mainstream.
Even if they grew up while video games were becoming main stream, doesn't mean they ever got into it.
With that said, you don't go to a plumber for a welder's job. Investors know how to make money off of investing. If they didn't they wouldn't be investors. They'd either be losers or in a different career. That's what know and that's what they are smart at.
Unfortunately what has the potential for highest profit margins boils down to all of the bad stuff in video games. Cut costs, rise prices, change the monetary systems to extract more money (generally predatory or otherwise harmful to the experience), make systems that get people to engage with the new monetary systems.
Everything that minimizes cost and maximizes profit.
There is a simple triangle to help understand this.
      Cost - Time - Quality
Can't ever have more than 2 and be a successful business. Businesses first find a balance in this or they fail. After they find their balance and succeed, it's either go public or don't (in regards to the stock market).

Not to mention that CDPR will have to get more and more involved with political issues currently going on in N America which will just cause more division with its player base and cause its stock to fall even lower. Im not saying that im taking a side on this but rather concerned. Look what's happened to Blizzard and Activision the past few years. However i hope they hire some of the staff that lost their jobs at bioware because there are a lot of talented and skilled people over there that got shafted and they would fit perfectly into the style of games CDPR make. I also think the vast majority of the player base have forgiven the mess of the launch of 2077. They just better not pull that again otherwise they will be done i think.
