Interesting rank list man, pretty sure mine is totally different than yours but it's all good, this new BM metalverse is just getting started, soon we're gonna get this new BM unit debut with their own songs, you can check it out some snippets of these at the official Metalverse YT and social media. And not only that, yesterday they announced a new collaboration coming next August 18 along with one of the living legends guitarist, yep, just wait for it, not to mention the new Lil Uzi Vert ft BM - The End song that came out more than a month ago, so you might want to save some space for that list when finishing this year. Anyway thanks for sharing this and see you next time 🦊🤘🔥
Great review - and I have to completely agree about this album and how it all works as a whole when you listen to it from start to finish.🦊 I can't rank the individual songs in my own order of preference, several will swap places with each other and then whatever I am listening to will leap up the ranking (but if I did it would almost certainly differ to your ranking - apart from possibly 'Monochrome' ... but number 1 can also change). I do have a definite number 10 because of my own tastes , likes and dislikes (and it definitely is not 'Metalizm', I love that song and was the one that intrigued me the most when they were releasing the snippets before the album was released), but even my own number 10 is a good song and the live version is very good.
I switch Metal Kingdom and The Legend most of the times I'm listening to it. MK is just a bit too long and simple as the intro for me, but as the outro it hits me very hard. But regardless it's one of my favourite albums ever 🤘🦊🤘 Can't wait for their new song!!!
@@react-o-mat Yes, I've seen you say that before - I would try that, but it would take me ages trying to flip them on the CD player in my car, but MK sounds more like an intro and The Legend more like an outro to me anyway. Yes, new song already - should be great. 🤘🦊
great review dude, I love this whole album, it flows very well and captures the essence of a concept album, btw have you heard that they are dropping a new song on the 18th of August, featuring Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine? sure to be another banger.
18:44 100% it’s literally like listening to Enigma from the 90’s Great review bro this whole album was fire. My top 3: #1 The Legend #2 Monochrome #3 Believing
Great rundown of the album. I agree that it's by far the most cohesive, which is probably because it was created as concept album, so each song has a place in the flow of the album. My own ranking would be: 1. Monochrome - The one song on the album that will become a regular fixture in the setlist going forwards. Banger. 2. Believing - Most underrated track on the album. Has an interesting message to some fans. Fat riffs. 3. Metal Kingdom - Amazing anthem. I'm biased due to having experienced it live at Babymetal Returns. 4. Mirror Mirror - Proggy and catchy at the same time. 5. Maya - Just the right mix of metal and poppyness. 6. Metalizm - Great riffs and drum patterns, but its kind of repetitive. 7. Divine Attack - Loved it at first, but there's just not a lot to it. Needs another verse like the opening one to give it more substance. 8. Light & Darkness - Sounds better live than on the studio recording, but still too dance/pop for me. 9. Time Wave - Too disco/dance for my tastes. 10. The Legend - Good song, but it feels like an inferior version of the same concept as "The One". Overall, I like eight out of ten songs, and even the ones I don't "like" aren't bad. I'd place the album third overall, as I think the first two are just so iconic and filled with classic songs that I can't quite bring myself to put it above them, but it's well ahead of Metal Galaxy, which is easily their weakest album.
Great review. I would never make a list for myself of my favorite songs by Babymetal, because that changes depending on my mood. The Other One album is a great album for me, I've listened to it countless times from start to finish. While I don't want to make a list, Monochrome and Time Wave stand out for me, but I love all the songs on the album.
Great review, thanks! Have you listened to the live versions of all the songs yet? If not, you definitely should. And redo the list... haha... 😁 Honestly, I'm not able to rank The Other ONE songs. I only know that "Time Wave" is my number 10 by far (and I still enjoy the song). This is also my favorite album overall, despite the fact that my (absolute) top 3 songs are still "Akatsuki", Megitsune" and "Arkadia". Until next time! 🤘🦊
Great list, inspired me to think what mine would be, maybe something like this: 1. Metalizm 2. Maya 3. Believing 4. Timewave 5. Mirror mirror 6. Divine attack 7. Monochrome 8. The legend 9. Light and darkness 10. Metal kingdom
Despite the fact that my favorite song from The Other One is your _least_ favorite 😁I thoroughly enjoyed your review from start to finish. You did an excellent job explaining how each song struck you, both initially and over time, with plenty of background on the way you listen to music and your style/genre preferences which ground it all. P.S. "what Monochrome is _actually_ about" remains conjecture. According to her, Su-metal didn't have it in mind when she first recorded the song, and it's not direct in the lyrics, though "the dusk of Ragnarok" does evoke a certain scale of events. I am one of the people who got a very very strong impression of a potential subject from the official video, and have argued for that interpretation, but we don't have any actual confirmation of that from the creators of the song. So "may be about" is currently more accurate than "actually about" to the best of our knowledge.
Babymetal, specifically Kobametal, has said: Babymetal songs are pretty much meant to be multi-interpretable, people can have their own interpretations and it's all good.
Every song on this album is just delightful to my ears. I will add that in the live version of Metalizm, Su's vocals and the Kami band takes it to a whole new level. 🦊 🖖❤
Light and Darkness is definitely a step above the songs you ranked below it. The Legend is also very good. For recommendations, Jealous Train or Escalation by Naoko Kawai are good.
Hay gustos diferentes en mi lista quedaría primero time wave y maya y de último the legend es interesante ver cómo cada quien capta las canciones de forma diferente 😊 saludos
Honestly, I've stopped ranking Babymetal songs, it's useful because as you said my feelings change. And as you mentioned even your worst pick Metalizm isn't a bad song.
16:33 somehow it tickled my 'laugh-bone' how you said reflection when talking about Mirror Mirror and it was really funny to me, maybe more than it should have. Thanks for the laugh. 🙂
You interpretation of Monochrome is a good average of what it's about/could be about. Love how said your feeling changed because of the live performance. I remember seeing fans say about some of the repetitive songs like Meta Taro and Oh Majinai. "it was my least favorite and after seeing it live it's my favorite song" LOL how amazing is that ? 🙂
