We tossed between the 22’ sq5 and macan s for a bit and ended up with the sq5. After owning a 16’ sq5 and enjoying how solid and reliable it was, with an interior that looked new to the day we traded it in. We picked up the 22’ sq5 sportback with the technik package and dynamic package (Canada). Fully built the Audi was a massive difference lower compared to the starting price of the Macan S. I started to build the Porsche like the Audi was built, and couldn’t believe what you get charged for when ticking boxes. From red seats, stitching in the seats, paint etc etc. things that came standard in the Audi were costly upgrades at Porsche. So in my eyes, spending 90k vs 125k made more sense to me. So comparable…….to a point, but add options and that comparison fades away quickly.

When reviewers dont do their homework. Posting a video with wrong facts is like submitting a paper with typos. For shame. 1. Drive select controls gears selection programming. Ride stiffness, its permanent 4wheel drive , adaptive suspension helps with ride height control as well. Packages are not standard as it will make the car too expensive if they were all standard. People of all income brackets deserve a car. Thats just the first quarter of the video.

I built a Macan S out to have the same as what the SQ5 Prestige (US) has and it is night and day. At this time in my life, and granted I have a sports car too, I want comfort and bells and whistles. The SQ5 comes out to just over $70K USD, the Macan S came out to $101K USD. The driving experience isn't $30K better. Sure, it's better. But $30K? You guys are missing the mark because you are only really comparing driving dynamics between the two. You take into account features and the comparison changes dramatically. I want something hugely comfortable with an air suspension and can get out of its own way rather than a 'stripper' Porsche. If you choose the Porsche, one you're either poor with your money or you have enough you don't care. You ONLY care about the driving dynamics. Or you are a brand snob. It's probably a combination.

yeesh, I have an Audi SQ5 and this is the most ignorant post I've seen... Porsche is literally the most reliable car there is in the luxury segment so if you wanted to be "smart" with your money, that is what you buy.... Used, for example, a 3 year old SQ5 is barely cheaper thna a Macan (GLC AMG, or BMW M40i) and I still went with the Audi. But don't spout dumbshit, a Porsche is a great choice at this price point.

In 2020 we test drove the Q5 and SQ5 and then test drove a base Macan immediately after... Goal was a sub 195 inch vehicle that could tow over 4000lbs (Mazdas have crap towing or we would have shopped there) and my 82 year old dad could get in/out of and be comfortable.
The differences were so stark that we of course went with the Macan. Every component of the car just was better (Seats, steering wheel, gauge cluster, Infotainment, materials, etc.) PLUS the Macan handles like an oversteery rally car on a back road while even the SQ5 handled like an understeery SUV... The extra $10k over a base Q5 was worth it because I don't feel the need for a second fun car!
Also note, even the base Macan distributes 90% of the power to the rear constantly even though its the same transmission/drivetrain as the Q5. Different transfer case was the only part number difference I can find. The suspension tuning is also supremely different even though sharing architecture, they felt like completely different cars!

Youre comparing a v6 turbo in an SQ5 to a 261hp Macan. If you want similar performance you have to go up to a 68k Macan starting price. Its a different car because IT IS a different car and a different price bracket.

  • @jrocxzs

This SQ5 actually is permanent AWD. You were referring to the Quattro Ultra system audi has implemented in the lower tier models to reduce costs and meet emissions. In the Q5 it’s FWD until it detects slip, in the SQ5 it’s AWD all the time- the ZF8 trans isn’t capable of ultra (fwd) configuration.

I commented 10 mos ago and guess what…I dumped my Lexus and got an SQ5. Net $8k under MSRP for an end of year 2023. Loaded up Prestige, sport diff, air suspension black optic real exhaust tips, etc. it is a GREAT car. I really like it. I have tested the Volvo; it was ok, GV70 2.5 was good, i felt the 3.5 was too “brutish.” Same with X3 M40i. Mazda is actually a car i might consider in the future. I do find it interesting that these guys loved the Q8.

I am vw/audi/porsche person that loves wagons. I ski, ride bikes and travel with my 2 boys. I love that you brought the CX-5 into the discussion. I have driven a friend's CX-9 a few times and each time came away impressed with the quality and design of the interior and how it drives smaller and more lively than it should. I am considering an Audi Allroad (2-3 years old or so) or a CX-5 and keep coming back to the CX-5. I never thought I would own an SUV, but I may just... As a driver, I have experience road racing and rally racing (as a co-driver), so driving dynamics are key.

"The SQ5 is for people that can't afford a Urus or Bentley." Wow, you have got to be kidding... Maybe not, you are comparing it to the Cayenne instead of the Macan, which is still 20% more expensive feature-for-feature. Do you even know what you're driving?
I have a MK7 Golf R. A fully loaded GTI is absolutely not "this good inside". Then you show the MK8 GTI. LOL, the MK8 GTI is a bean counters dream.
And yes, the gas gauge can absolutely be shown all the time...
I'm not sure what is going on here. Normally you guys have solid reviews that are down to Earth. This is like Bizarro World with some of these comments.

    • @TestDriveVideos

Strangely, the Q5 now shares a platform with the Cayenne and not the Macan. That’s why the Urus and Bentley are jokingly discussed… they share that same chassis too. Meanwhile, there’s a long discussion of the Macan as an actual alternative, but we’re guessing you didn’t watch long enough to hear it.

SQ5 Prestige w/sport package is best overall in segment, including the interior and was thus my choice (2021). The digital dashes and infotainment in the competition, esp. M-B, is abysmal. Ride in the competition was generally also abysmal. Caveats are that Audi S products all but require a tune and the Audi add-on quad exhaust tips are a must.

  • @MichaelColes-vv7uc
    @MichaelColes-vv7uc 5 місяців тому +1

The reason this car has fake exhaust tips is because Audi listens to it customers who have told them they don't like cleaning them. And we have all tried to clean them before and keep them clean. Makes sense now. Because the exhaust note still sounds the same, which is what buyers don't want to give up. And be realistic guys, for a similarly optioned Porsche, you will spend over $100K. For similar performance , that is not $30K better. Yes, this is a "sweet spot" vehicle (value/performance) and apparently a lot of people want that. Q5 and SQ5 are Audis best selling segments. Think about that for a moment.

I have the base model SQ5. I got the base from specifically for analog gauges. (Pretty sure it costs Audi more than the digital screen). Love this car. The upgraded wheels and tires makes it look much better. With Panoramic sunroof, Alcantara, etc. It was 10k less than this sport back.
I’d love a Maccan but you can’t really negotiate a good lease on Porsche’s. My wallet felt fine with this. I couldn’t drive the comps you’re mentioned. LOL, I find use for the cut out. The exhaust on the non sportback is more forgiving, and it doesn’t get dirty.

I have to agree that really took me for a loop. Mazda is my favorite automobile company (Porsche is 2nd)....but NO ONE is cross shopping a CX-5 and an SQ5. They are absolutely not in the same class at all. The Mazda just pushes the other class harder, but they are not the same thing.
The Quattro comment was also off and it was funny that they drifted the car shortly afterwards, which cannot be done with full time Quattro.
I don't really like SUV's much (my wife does), but I do think the SQ5 is kinda cool but the normal shape looks better than the swooping rear. The SQ8 does look shockingly good to me with the swooping rear end.

You should know if you drive in enough snow, the whole front of the car will get caked in it. The wetter the snow, the faster it happens. It would need to be in a place that can be cleared by snow regularly or have a really strong heater than can keep snow/ice from freezing

Is the SQ5 primarily FWD most of the time? That doesn't sound right. The Q5 is, certainly, as it uses Ultra like the A4 and A5, but the S4 and S5 have a totally different drive train that runs 40-60 front-rear most of the time. I would have thought this is what the SQ5 uses, too.

I had good luck with my Q5. I test drove the M40i and the SQ5 (and a Macan…not the S). Here is what I want from a higher powered suv: don’t need to drive it like a sports car, I just want the extra power when desired. I want reliability and although there some who say BMW is better, my experience was good with my Audi; does not mean it would be the same with the SQ5. I probably will just go ahead and live with my Lexus NX 350 however. Little get up and go until you are up to speed, but has all of the features one would want in a luxury SUV. It is a competent and (hopefully) reliable little car. I see no point to buying a sportback so you have less cargo room while paying $3k over the regular model. I do not think the X4 is attractive that’s for sure.

I agree completely, I think they’re resting too much on their laurels and honestly, at the last few auto shows I went to I sat in some Audis, and compared to other luxury makes, there was just nothing about the cars that made me feel special, like I was getting into something special. Nothing wrong with them, they’re quiet and ride well, but in this day and age, you need far more to bring people into your showroom than a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Porsche is overpriced here cause there is only one dealer in our city and their yard has so many cars waiting for parts to repair them.

A lot of assumptions about the demographic that would buy this car. Average q5 owner income is mid 100k and above. So expect sq5 to be higher. In this bracket you can also likely afford a LESS practical macan. Macan s is 70k BASE W/ ZERO OPTIONS. and that interior feels no better than the q5. And for daily driving is the macan s 20-30k noticeably better? No. (And yes, I’ve driven every iteration of q5 and macan for model year 2023). Let’s be serious, no one is flogging a macan s or gts anywhere. It’s purely a status symbol these days to say “look at me, I can afford the top trim.” Jaded opinions from driving too many sports cars and making ridiculous cross comparisons between a gti and q5? Also, Porsche charges a la crate for every option and your nitpicking 3k for dynamic handling package when you have to order sport chrono, air ride, sport exhaust separate which is easily 7-8k. Even BMW and Mercedes do this. 🤦🏻‍♂️ 991.2 C4S, 718 Spyder, Q5 owner 🙃

What more likely…. 1) You’ve just educated Todd and he’s never heard this? Or. 2) He misspoke. Decide for yourself and also consider… Was it worth the trouble to mention?

God…pretty elitist take from Paul to sarcastically say “You maybe made middle management”. Man, for a LOT of people, they don’t ever make management salary.

Hate the interior. Too bad the car is afraid of winter. Too vw for me.

Lol what’s wrong with the interior? Not enough Mercedes style diamantés plastered everywhere?

Seems like you just found us, and must be a fan of this SUV. This is our second channel and you would get a better perspective of who we are based on our original channel, started 15 years ago, our TV show, or our podcast.
Meanwhile, Paul owned Audis in the past, and now has a couple of Porsches and a Ford Expedition. Todd has a Lotus Elise, a 300zx, and a Cayenne. Thanks for watching.

Sportback is a big JOKE.This is pretty much for those who got money and don't care about it, not care about space, return after lease.I'll go as fast as their supercharger variants. When they switch over to turbos which have more issues. Audi went cheap as soon after the 2017 to save money for themselves and make more money out of consumers. It's sad
