  • In this video, I'm gonna show you how I put together my RED Komodo 6K camera rig. I've gone down the rabbit hole of watching a bunch of other rig build videos for the Komodo and doing a ton of research online. The goal I had in mind with this setup was to create a versatile rig that seamlessly transitions from a professional film set to a dynamic run-and-gun shooting environment.

    A perfect video in so many ways. Professionally informed beautiful set and presentation and simple calm and charming delivery that explained all the choices perfectly. I wish there were more women on youtube to reflect the growing number of fantastically talented dps and directors working in cinema and especially documentaries. Having worked mostly with women directors and producers and without wanting to generalise in any way, its so refreshing to hear the tone and consideration that women often bring to their work and on set too that is so markedly different from what we often see on youtube from often over hyped slightly adolescent young men. In my experience in the real world that same calm reassurance and confidence that Aya shows in her presentation use of graphics and even reflected jn the calm neutral tones of the set and what she is wearing are all creative choices once put in front of the camera and they perfectly reflect an understated confidence and aesthetic which seem wholly authentic to Aya’s intentions for the video. The rig is excellent and each piece’s form and function and choice is perfectly explained. Technically it mirrors many of the choices i have made on the rig i often use. A couple of things that i have found helpful is a galvanic isolator for sdi peace of mind and a run stop as part of the grip and fiz solution that keeps the hands in operator positions in the camera rather than reaching for the monitor. The tilta nucleus m is a useful system in that respect. Im not sure if Aya uses much shoulder rig set ups as her bts seemed to favour an easy or ready rig but the vocas cage and baseplate system is a useful option as it integrates well across the vocas base plate and shoulder rig systems. Again these are just personal choices and its great to see the thought and care taken by Aya as well as the obvious practical and cost considerations appreciated too. Just a perfect video and thanks for sharing your thoughts so clearly and professionally. A true pleasure.

      Thank you so much for the kind words. You don’t know how much I needed to hear this right now. It just feels so nice when someone acknowledges all the little details you thought through before sitting down and pressing record. Also yes - I wish there were more women on youtube too! Hoping to lead as an example in a way.
      Regarding the build will be testing the new nucleus m soon as well as a shoulder rig, so will probably make a comparison about it!

    Excellent job, love the build. Not a fan of polar pro but everything else was awesome. Maybe take a look at bright tangerine to play around. But hats off on such a compact rig. Definitely gonna pull some inspiration

      Thank you! Yes, bright tangerine have awesome stuff as well as ignite digi. Definitely worth the investment if you’re going for a higher end setup. I just got a tilta mini matte box so I want to see how it compares to the polar pro one.

    i feel like tilta really did not think this cage design thru and i'm really irked. i don't like having too many mismatched brand components, so i wanted handles that worked. left side handle options are great, until you mount and it blocks the mic port, or now i have to constantly move this handle to get the memory card door open. i've taken pieces from other kits and put them on my rig and ii finally have it to where it takes 5 min to put together. i sort of quick released almost everything lol. i have their focus handle, which is great. their focus motor burnt out on me but they sent a replacement right away. i like that the nano is so smalled compared to these other motors.

    • @lostinayaland
      @lostinayaland  8 місяців тому +1
