Imho, it is not the same as the Bremen. They improved quite a bit. The wobbly volume button, wobbly cassette lid, bluetooth 5 instead of 2, a dedicated bluetooth button, and also you can close the cassette lid, with a stubby usb stick in it.
Thank you for that information. When he said that they were functionally the same, I was indecisive about which to choose. Your post definitely has me leaning towards the Frankfurt.

@@mmbeauty1 Awww man, what a bummer. I absolutely love my Bremens, I stick them in all my 80's cars. I was so excited to find this for my 90's cars, but man, why did they have to mess up the bluetooth streaming? I guess I'll stick with my bremens for now.
Interesting. I originally had a vintage Bremen RCM in my car and it sounded....'vintage' if that makes sense. I replaced it with this Frankfurt and its night and day. The amount of modern electronics that are in the new retro Blaupunkts really do clean up the sound.
thank you so much for this video, I've been doing research for the past coupe days trying to find the perfect head unit for my m3. Im definitely going to get this one
Great to see the actual fit in an E36 because it’s about time I stop using the speakerphone on my iPhone while it rattles around in the cupholder. 😂. Everything looks flush and clean and the colors are spot on - a few questions, though. 1) just directly clip the thing in, no splicing? And the stock amp of an E36 M3 with the HK system wouldn’t be an issue? 2) I really, reeeeally wish you had made a phone call to a buddy using the mic built into the face to hear the clarity on both ends, then done so again with the aux mic. I’m sure dual mics must work, right? For a clearer, stereo effect?, and finally 3) Is there a Siri Voice Control ‘prompt’ button on the face for commands or would I need to use the phone or ‘eyes free’ to get into any shenanigans? Are the button reprogrammable? That could work too! Thanks first the review!

Unfortunately when I bought my 1996 S420 W140 has a terribly unattractive aftermarket set up although I love my tech so this unit will certainly bring back the style it deserves. Thanks for the review
You are not alone, I wish that too. I’ve got my original stereo still and think I’m just going to retro add Bluetooth to it. Way cheaper and probably better quality as German made.
Hey guys, im wondering if it bothers you that the volume dial is on the left side in a rhd car? I cant seem to find any radios that solve this problem. Kind of annoys me haha
@CarAudioSecurityUK Thank you for this review, which influenced me to purchase this Frankfurt head unit. When installing these on Porsche 964s with factory supplied amplifiers, do you connect these newer head units to the factory supplied amplifier or bypass it and use the amp built in to the head unit? My 964 audio system is completely factory (CR-1 head unit, factory supplied Blaupunkt amplifier under the RHS seat). Thank you in advance for the advice.
Have you installed one of these in a 84' Porsche 911? I want to keep everything stock and not cut anything. Even the factory wires in the back I would I would like to keep the same if they make an adapter for the wiring. That would be great.
I heard some quite negative comments on audio quality? I really like the design but need to connect to a Focal Flax audio system and I want the quality as good as it gets, need to skip this one or not? Best Regards Fré
Hello! Based on your reviews of these radios, I bought one for my BMW, and it sounds great. But I'm having a real problem with the BASS and TREBLE controls. When I click either one, it starts out at like +85, and the "down" button works to lower it, but the "Up" button does nothing at all. The D/U buttons work perfectly fine for Balance and Fader, but Bass/Treble are really messed up! Can you please let me know how far +/- the Bass and Treble are supposed to go (like +/-10??) because mine definitely is not working like that. thanks.
my personal experience of doing this with my Jag is that yes, that is true - but getting "proper" line level outputs and EQ for an amp is another matter. And thats why i replaced my oem head unit in the end.
Thanks for the excellent vid - As is almost everything by CAS I've got a 99 Mercedes W210 with a Becker head unit (and the 6-CD carosel in trunk, which I don't use) Is the Frankfurt easily adapted? I imagine I would need to purchase some sort of adapter, as I've no interest in hacking into the stock wiring. Thanks
Some of those Mercedes used a fiber optic cable to connect the head to the amp - I don't know if yours did (and if it did you can get an adapter but its extra work) I don't know if yours does but do check before you buy
@@faultlessfrank Thanks, Frank. AFAIK, the fiberoptic cable only connects to the CD carosel, although it probably warrants a closer inspection A few years back, I shipped the head to a company that retrofit a Bluetooth receiver into the cassette circuit. It only required a blank cassette to be maintained in the drive. It worked great for a while, but now there appears to be an issue because it regularly ejects any tape which is inserted. I really don't want to spend another few hundred bucks on a repair, and am probably more inclined to replace the unit with a "period correct" unit like the Frankfurt. But I will check for the amp in the boot first
Hi -- Calling-in from North America here. I've just had this installed in my 1992 325ic and the display is so dim (even at its highest setting) that it's impossible to read during daylight hours. Do you know if there's a firmware update, or any other way to make the display brighter? Thanks in advance!
Same issue with mine, I put Red to the max and green +1 to match my classic Ferrari orange dash color and it is so dim that you can’t barely see it in daytime, I found out that green at max or blue at max is easier to read but doesn’t match my dash color. Did you find if there’s a firmware option?? @rhr1960
E36 has 6 speakers and this radio has 4x50w channels, can it still power 6 speakers no problem? I wanna replace speakers but no idea if i should replace tweeters in doors as well or focus on midbass and rear speakers
For the stock system, whether basic 6 peaker setup, the Hi-FI ot Top Hi-Fi aka Harman.Kardon setup, you simply use the DIN connectors (DIN-to-BMW adapter) and that's what drives the stock amp/speakers. You don't use the RCA outputs.
Hello. I am interested in the tape recorder for my car. Bmw e34 which Blaupunkt model can I get without any intervention (without cutting the cable, I can just remove and put it on)?
you need to go to a site like incartech and get a plug and play ISO adapter for your car's harness. Its not really on the head unit manufacturer to do that plug and play - they support ISO, thats kinda standard, also metra do harness adapters for just about every car and then you can solder the iso connector onto that. I agree with you on not cutting anything on the car - lazy hifi installers do that cos its faster and lets the customer do everything in one visit. Thus why i do all hifi installs myself. Takes extra time to properly wrap the harness, solder it on a bench, make sure there's no pinch points, get fitment *just right*, etc etc. I save my money for mechanics to do big jobs I dont have facilities for myself. i.e. head gaskets, anything needing a crank puller, AC regas, etc etc.
I have a Bremen in my 1989/1990 car. But I was frankly disappointed by the quality of the buttons. They're the cheap Chinese clicky quality and that makes the radio feel incredibly cheap and fragile. Apart from that the Bluetooth doesn't work very well with newer phones. I really hope they've improved these points on the new version, but I don't have high hopes.
yeah id have liked to see more of a functionality review here - like dig into the menus - what was the process for adjusting the backlight colour like? Does SWC work? How well? Was it programmable? EQ settings? etc etc.

Too bad about the holes for the removal tool, while it alreasy has the little doors for tue blades. The Bremen doesn’t have it. Should’ve kept it like that.
The correct punctuation here is ‘90s. The leading apostrophe replaces “19” in 1990. Since it’s not possessive, there’s no apostrophe before the “s” at the end.

use a DIN-to-BMW adapter and the unit plugs straight in and will use whatever system is in the csr, including H/K.

Nice but very expensive
An oem Professional RDS now goes for €500-900, with 10% of its functions; this is a bargain.
Good price only £320 Amazon had it on special for a few months.
A new OEM radio for my car costs the same as this so I figure I’d rather go for more features and reliability with this model 🤷♂️

It should be 200 pounds
The Frankfurt has bluetooth version 5 where the Bremen is only 2.1 -- I think the biggest difference is 2.1 does not show the song names.
