The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square perform the Austrian carol "Still, Still, Still" arranged by Mack Wilberg. Episode 4395. Aired December 8, 2013
My grandfather passed away Christmas night. He had health problems and was on hospice for about a month prior to his passing. He was old and lived a wonderful life. I have a wonderful memory that I hold dear to my heart of that night that I'd like to share. My family and my parents went to visit grandpa Christmas day at his assisted living house. After which we went back to my parents until around 10pm. As we were leaving my dad was getting his shoes and coat on. I asked "where are you going?" He said to see Dad. I said but dad we already saw him why go now? He looked at me and said I just feel like I should go. Well in turn that made me want to go to being that Christmas is also my dads birthday. So my wife went home and my dad and I went back to see grandpa. As we were there I told my dad to take a rest on the couch and that I would sit with grandpa while my dad took a nap. So he did and I sat with grandpa and sponged his mouth being that his mouth was very dry. We listed to this song along with other Christmas music for a few hours. Then he started to take his last few breaths I got my dad as we watched my grandfather pass away and return home. My dad and I sat waiting for them to come pick my grandfather up. We talked about grandpa and how much he meant to us. My grandfather believed with his whole being in Jesus Christ and God our Heavenly Father. I'm not like my grandfather or my dad they both are amazing Christ-like men and theirs me making many mistakes along the way. But I have something in common with them I believe with my whole being that Jesus is the redeemer of the world and God is our Eternal Father who loves all of us equally. I pray for all those who have lost someone during these difficult times. Or If someone you love is at the hospital now and your unable to see them. Prayer works and I believe in angels. Pray for angels to attend to your family members. God knows them and Christ suffered all things and knows how to help you and your loved ones. God bless you keep your faith and we will be with and see our loved ones again in the name of Jesus Christ Amen.
Such a beautiful story. I'm so grateful for my Savior, for His perfect life, for his eternal and supernal Atonement. Thank you for sharing this powerful and sweet story.
As a Japanese person , my mind already felt Christmas . Merry Christmas from Tokyo in Japan . Jesus is watching with Maria smiling at the people of this world who bless Jesus,s birth
I think that no matter your denomination good uplifting music especially at the sacred days of the Christian Calendar. I lost my beloved almost seven years ago after 51 years o marriage but being a believer in Christ our Savior I firmly believe she is in haven with God. Now at 82 I'm still doing what we did every year together from September to the octave of Christmas.. Listen to every Christmas Carol old and new.. Our favourite . Bing Crosby . I heard the bells. The words where ever there's strife in the world ring true. Then peal the bells more loud and deep. God is not not dead nor does he sleep The right prevail the wrong shall fail God bless everyone especially at Christmas time.
I am not a Mormon, but I know great music when I hear it. Bravo, Mack Wilberg and the Mormon Tabernacle for this gorgeous music which transcends religious boundaries. To me all great music, like God, is eternal.
This song beautifully captures the feeling of what heaven would be like. Pure happiness, pure bliss, pure comfort and joy. At such a level you would sit there and cry. A warm brightness enveloping you. Seeing loved ones happy, healthy, joyous to see you again. That feeling. Thats what heaven is. This song is heaven.
This is one of the most moving carols sung by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I've been listening to this choir my entire life and am always amazed at how a choir of this size, with an orchestra, can produce such an emotional sound. The music of this choir always brings the tears.
If only the whole world could hear this beautiful music - things would change for the better..what a blessing it is to us to listen to the Tabernacle Choir feel such calmness and peace within....
Captures the wonder of that most glorious night. I feel chills as I listen. I fully believe in the Child. He is working miracles in my life today. I'd be lost without Him.
The recorded works of this great choir and its associated musicians are a splendid repertoire of spiritual insight. I am continually moved each time I access something, and Still Still Still had a notable impact on me. I've so enjoyed the humorous offerings, and they feed the soul, too. Blessings, all. You have a profound influence in the world.
What a beautiful song makes me cry. And the photos that are showing a young baby Jesus and his Earthly father and mother it's just absolutely spiritually provoking
Listen to Libera's version. They're also called St. Phillips choir of the West End of London. It's on their latest record. They're an all-boys choir, do world tours now.
Still, still, still, One can hear the falling snow. For all is hushed, The world is sleeping, Holy Star it's vigil keeping. Still, still, still, One can hear the falling snow. Sleep, sleep, sleep, 'Tis the eve of our Saviour's birth. The night is peaceful all around you, Close your eyes, Let sleep surround you. Sleep, sleep, sleep, 'Tis the eve of our Saviour's birth. Dream, dream, dream, Of the joyous day to come. While guardian angels without number, Watch you as you sweetly slumber. Dream, dream, dream, Of the joyous day to come.
I was in choir for all junior high and high school. I did this song once in my sophomore year in German and again in my senior year in English at our Christmas concert
Very touching.... Makes me feel as if the windows of Heaven have been opened and I have been privileged to listen to angels singing in their Heavenly choir! Lovely!!!
Some (perhaps most) music is just notes and does nothing to your soul and spirit. Great music takes you somewhere else and changes your life. This music is out of this world- perhaps my favorite song ever.
I am so inspired by this music. I was in Salt Lake City one weekend and learned, as I recall that the choir has open rehearsals one night to the public. Had I known, I definately would have changed my itenerary. I have been in multiple choral groups and at times feel it would be worthwhile to join the Mormon faith for the sole purpose of singing in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Dr. Bill
Hello and may God bless you all 👑✝️🕊️ this beautiful song was on my mind and heart, and i came looking for the most beautiful version i could find here. It's late July; but i love Christmas music all year long, and this song in particular is so soft and hopeful. "Dream of the joy to come--" Heaven 👑✝️🕊️☁️🙏
I DID ASK FOR A MIRACLE TONIGHT AND IT IS GETTING TOGETHER EVERY JAN 6 AND SINGING WITH THIS MORMON TABERNACLE CHOIR & KING'S SINGERS SO AS THOSE BEAUTIFUL PERFORMERS. THANKS! JAN 6, 2015
Today is Holy Thursday, one day before Good Friday... and I am listening to this. 3 1/2 months ago it was Christmas. Soon the culminating events of Christendom are about to be commemorated around the world. This music -- so bittersweet, knowing how that sweet beginning would end 33 years later. (And yet it was NOT the end.)
My college's choir (at McDaniel College) sings a slightly different arrangement of this song at the end of their holiday concert every year. It's tradition for any choir alumni in the audience to come to the front and sing along. One of my top 5 favorite Christmas songs, to be sure.
When hearing the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sing, it is simply divine with their Silver & Golden voices. I always pray they will be singing when God calls me home. Thank you for sharing with us all. May you and your family celebrate this most beautiful season with joy, peace and love. Merry Christmas and may God bless everyone.
I know what you mean. It's wonderful that music can buoy us up at special times in our lives. This Christmas song has become very dear to me because it brings back warm memories of family and friends who I just assumed would always be around.
Mack Wilberg's ability to arrange pieces like this is beyond this world. His musical inspiration truly reflects the Spirit of the Savior. I've been blessed to have multiple family members in the Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square organizations, and I've experienced the Spirit that their music brings to the world many times. I'm grateful for the gift of music these talented individuals are so willing share.
Mormon Tabernacle Choir is God's blessing to the world. I hv always enjoyed this choir since the first time I heard some 40 years ago when I took my graduate study in US. Now I live in Indonesia --- always looking for chance to hear MTC. Praise the Lord.
Grown up in the Austrian alps in the early 1970s we learnt the piece in school being around a 6-7. Everybody knows the melody and text. It is famous. It's so beautiful when it is sung in the typical Austrian dialect spoken by famers - because these are the roots.

Dear Judi, I of course do not know where you wrote from, a year ago. US? Australia? I am writing from Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain, but what does it matter? I imagine you are a Mormon and it happens that I am Catholic, but again, what does it all really matter? Much, much more important things are awating us up and up in the High. A ONE, KIND AND SINGLE GOD. We, on earth, spend more than a half of our lives changing easy things into nightmares. Am I right? By the way, I have learned that The Mormon Tabernacle Choir has its fountain site at Salt Lake City. "BECAUSE YOU ARE THE SALT OF THE EARTH..." Who did and why SALT Lake City was chosen in particular? Please smile and let mi do it too. You mentioned a year ago (as said in UA-cam): The Light keeps shining in the dark, and darkness has never put it out. (John 1:5 CEV). Many times it is not even necessary to go so high as to the Bible, when you can see the same everywhere among nowadays people, not much different than that of more than two thousand years ago, unfortunately. The light keeps shining in the dark, but MOST ARE NOT ABLE TO RALIZE IT IS SHINING JUST BECAUSE OF THEIR BLINDNESS. Therefore, they stay in the darkness. And the DARKNESS keeps laughing of joy. Unfortunately, when at last THE LIGHT MIGHT BE SEEN, WANTED OR NOT, perhaps it already is too late. Humanity has ben given a marvelous but very dangerous to manage gift. Freedom to choose. Why I say dangerous? Because many prefer an incursion (a non-way back decision) into the darkness than into the light. Reason: Light ask you for effort, sacrifice and much more. Darkness does not and what is more, smoothes the way into and offers so many wonderful and rich things to upgrade that evidently never shall be given, but just the non-stop leading to an unique way, whose direction is down bellow for ever and ever. with no halleluja at all but never and never. Let us pray our Lord the LIGHT to be seen and be present, either wanted or not in this dark world we are living. Our hope and Faith in Him.

This is one of the most beautiful arrangements of this song I've ever heard.
The Choir is truly a national treasure and a gift from God.
This song beautifully captures the feeling of what heaven would be like. Pure happiness, pure bliss, pure comfort and joy. At such a level you would sit there and cry. We always get great choral works sung by this choir. In their field, I don't think that they can be beaten.
Anthony Seymour I don’t think so either! The standard of excellence has never failed them......and never will!
