That band deserve so much credit . They held everything together . Vic could captivate a room but they took it to the next level. Incredible performance 🙏🏻
In 1993, a girlfriend in my old hometown made 'West of Rome' part of my required listening. Soon after, 'Is The Actor Happy?' became part of my soundtrack to rooming-house squalor in the big city. In 2003, of my own volition, I bought a copy of 'Left to His Own Devices'; an album that reflected the fragmentation I felt was happening to me at the time. Now, 2010, I only hope that one day Vic will get the recognition he deserves. R.I.P. Vic, You are Remembered.
DEP... Genial Artista y músico indie.
Primal scream indeed. One of the most intense performances to ever reach my ears. Thank you, Vic. And now some intravenous Demerol. It ain't supernatural.
Vic had an uncanny ability to expose, or more accurately, make you see the darker side of life, and he did so in a very beautiful way. There is an unexplained common bond between the best artists and despair. Listening to Vic is very bittersweet, because even though we love the songs, the darkness in it all is entirely real. This man lived a very tormenting life, and had the gift of being able to let the rest of us know how fucked up everything really is, from a first person view. RIP Vic
I replay this video from time to time to remind myself of just how good Vic Chesnutt was. I was lucky enough to have seen him a number of times in his career and to have met and spoke with him. It always warms my heart when I see new fans discover him.
This is crazy. I've never discovered him until today. Bright Eyes is my favorite band, and they released a cover that I didn't realize until today. The cover is of 'Flirted with you all my life'. I'm not saying this for attention, or pity, by any means but Gus I think you'll appreciate it... My fiance passed away in my arms the day it was released. That song, from my favorite band, who I normally catch things on release from screamed EXACTLY what I was feeling in the moment. I could only play music from the playlist he listened to from work, or ours we listened to together...... Until today. Until Vic....I needed this more than anything. Easily top 3 instantly.😢🥲
@@garretharris9588 Music works in mysterious ways. I hope you continue to find comfort in music. I'm sorry for your loss. Vic never gave less than his whole heart when performing. Enjoy the genius you are about to explore. Peace.
I had the privilige if seeing Vic Chestnut a couple of times in the early 90's at the Adelphi Hull, he entertained a packed crowd, with his humour and great songs. A great guy - he will be fondly remembered. RIP Vic.
This is fantastic. SO powerful, the band, Vic's throat-shredding vocals - all of it. The guy was incredible. And funny. A sad loss but what a lot of good stuff he left behind. If anyone hasn't listened to his entire back catalogue I suggest you do so right now. What are you waiting for?
The maestro of melancholy... genius, hopeful, sweet melancholy. Didn't matter what that man seemed to say I hung on his ev'ry word, and still do. One of the few performers that can get inside my core and tear me down piece by piece, powerful sincerity at it's finest. Not to mention his great sense of humor... "(trumpet sounds) and now we play." How perfect. What a pleasure to have been sitting in that room with him so close to his untimely departure. Love you Vic. Thanks for posting this.
I consider myself a relatively tough guy but everytime I watch this video I cry like a Magdalene. This is probably the most sincere performance I've ever seen.
so sorry for his pain, that it couldn't be overcome. Condolences to his good friends and family, and all those fortunate to have been touched by his life. fare thee well, Vic.
This is the best performance by Vic Chestnut that I have ever heard. Intense, powerful, loud. RIP Vic. You were a great poet and an even greater musician.
Wow, I'd never even heard of this guy a few hours ago, this is the second song I've ever heard of his and I knew by the end of the first that I'd go and listen to every single thing he's done. This is so fucking raw.
VIc has always been near and dear to my heart for many years. I've been working on getting a benefit concert together in the area with myself and some other local musicians. Had a conversation with him once outside the Orange Peel in Asheville, NC. He was a humble, down to earth man. May He rest in peace.
I was at this show...this wonderful video is like being there all over again. I hope Vic knows fully now the effect he had on people, and just how important his life was and how that makes it so painfully tragic that he felt he had to leave...
I have no idea what to say after watching, but most importantly hearing that. I am blown away. I have no idea what emotion I was feeling throughout the song, but nobody brings out more unknown emotions than that guy. Vic was a great talent and I will truly never forget the songs he wrote and the way he poured it all out there performing. Wow!
I saw Vic play only once, with Giant Sand at the State Theatre in Austin, TX during SXSW 1996. It was incredible! It makes me sad to hear of his tragic death. Thank you for posting this. Rest In Peace Vic.
Amazing performance. I especially like the looks of absolute admiration the band members show Vic. Here you have all these brilliant musicians from all these incredibly successful bands, and you can tell how honored they feel to be able to play with such a legendary genius, and can see in their eyes the respect they all hold for him. Just an absolutely beautiful performance by everyone involved...
absolutely....! Lemme just say that Vic is my go to musician! ...got dumped...pull Vic down off the shelf...and you know I never know how im gonna feel after ....but even if its sad...or crying my head off...happy...with more gratitude Its exactly what I needed.... he is pretty fuking muther fucking amaxzing
This was the most heartfelt, passionate, performance by anyone that I have ever seen. I honestly have to say that when I watch this, I get teary eyed. RIP Vic
Dear Vic. Just moved to Athens Ga. Missed you by a couple of months, I guess. I would have loved to meet you Vic. You will always live on to so many in this town and this world, Vic. RIP.
saw this lineup in a church on the tour for At the Cut and it absolutely destroyed me. pretty much the most powerful musical performance I've ever seen, not even being hyperbolic. sad and frustrating feeling knowing that it can never be replicated.

INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCE! My thoughts go out to Chesnutt and his loved ones. Btw "rough edit rough mix and rough color correction" ... rough my ass. this is absolutely beautiful. please don't change a thing.
there's been two years since Vic Chesnutt has been gone, and i still cant believe that we lost a genius like that. People like Vic shoulda live forever.

Depuis, je découvre peu à peu son univers musical avec éblouissement et avec la sensation d'être bouleversé de fond en comble. Merci pour le partage. Puisse Vic Chesnutt reposer en paix. Thanks a lot !*
such a soul, such a raw power and such visible pain... great song, great perfprmance. sorry to see you go Vic. didn't know much about you when you were with us but i'll try to fix it from now on, no matter how pointless it will be... R.I.P

Incredible performance 🙏🏻
Thank you for making this amazing moment available to those of us Vic devotees who never saw him in person. It is a pure blessing
I had been friends with him for years, and seen him play a lot of times, and I am still blown-away by this performance.
I'm so fortunate to have seen Vic Chesnutt several times. He was completely on another level than his musical peers. Incredible.

Wow. That was great. That guitar tone was some of the best Ive heard, too.
Hearing this song rips into my soul with deep grief...Thank you for your beautiful life and extraordinary talent...Miss you,greatly....
Sometimes only Vic will do. About every sad or upset mood in my life is scored by this genius nowadays

Vic we miss you ! you had a unique sound and you overcame a lot of pain and sorrow. Love and prayers go with you !
Why in the world would anyone dislike this?
Saw Vic two weeks prior to this in Detroit. One of a kind, for sure.
Where in Detroit? Where was I that night???
