B4 u know it , she will run and stick her head in the halter.. And when u feed her, don't just feed her. Catch her , put the halter on and pour her feed in her bucket. Let her eat a minute and then take the halter off and walk away.. It will make a difference..

the reason why she is turning in is because your lunge line is not long enough and you are standing in front of her shoulder so that tells them to turn in! just get a better lunge like a carrot stick and stay behind her shoulder

Forgive me my brain works differently. Horses are great when used. Proper training is needed. As y'all know. One side of the animal's brain doesn't talk to the other. Dust the reason for repetition and reversal. Beulah has a good heart. I hope she's everything that Frankie wants wants
Give her time. She was left to fend for herself in a field and now she has someone who cares for her now. Time will show her to interact with Frankie and visa versa.

Don’t give your problems to someone else. Work on fixing her bad habits AND your own bad habits. Horses are different animals and require training tactics tailored to the horse mind.

That is terrible advice. Do not tell people to figure it out on their own when they could greatly benefit from someone with more experience helping them. An inexperienced rider and a green horse makes for a dangerous situation on their own. Why would you tell someone not to seek advice from a professional? That is not "putting problems on someone else". That is what the professional is there for!
You’ll probably never see this but I’m Chrissy’s friend and thought I might help you some. I trained horses full time until I had my boys and I still work them some. Body language is the biggest cue to horses, like where your body is in relation to theirs. There is an invisible “drive line” about where their girth is and behind that line is forward and in front will stop them. Usually if they are turning to face you is because you’ve gotten “ahead of the horse” and she’s wanting to stop.
honestly i watched your video from when you guys first got her and she seems like a well-trained horse. Unphased by loading, literally single tied to a fence and bathes great, no issues with picking up those feet and she never freaked out being loaded unloaded loaded then unloaded in all new surroundings in one day. That mare is super optimistic and listening with a forward attitude which is better than being behind the leg. you guys are doing great with her and if she was ridden before im sure you can easily work your way up to that again. With her attitude just from 2 videos she is not spooky or hesitant so maybe your kid could cruise up and down some trails! i dont necessarily adore it when a horse is a pasture pet like she was before but it's better than a lot of things horses otherwise go through. im so happy she gets to have you guys to keep that smarty girls' brain going on. especially when shes out of work shes always gonna test ya but just correction and never expect it to happen or it will. every mare ive ridden/owned and whatnot are generally more empathetic like can tell what you're thinking compared to geldings or even studs. i am just super excited for u guys! this is most definitely a longer comment but ive never had such amazing luck when it comes to picking up a pasture-pet-pony and those ground manners are just wow! my mare is out of work for a week and I go to lunge her and its leaping jumping invisible horses lol. prayers!

I just love to watch your channel it is so informative and fun. Don’t give up on Buelah she’s, a Good loving horse and wants to please you on her own terms . Keep up on your faith and trust in her and prayers always work
A month working with a horse is not much. You need to keep up with working with her daily. It can be a slow process but worth it in the end. You don't need to lunge her, unless she is high energy/pace. As long as Frankie is working with her daily and riding her regularly she should be fine, unless she is high strung/energy. If Frankie is getting I. Her to run her then yes warm her up with lunging, but honestly I would just slowly ride her to warm up instead of lunging. I've been riding and working with horses for over 25+ yrs as a trail guide and horse owner.
Being Beulah has not been worked in a few years it may take a little time to retrain her,be patient you'll do ok. You might tune in to Ryan Rose on U tube. Good horse trainer and video's. Just a suggestion if there are any horse stables or ranches near you maybe ask if they would let you use or rent their round pen to get better round pen work. There is some ground work thats not as easy to do in an open field. Good luck I look forward to seeing your progress with her.
Hey y'all, Fantastic video. That was really so much fun! I loved watching the trainer working with Beulah and listening to what he is doing seeing and thinking was priceless. Most animals do to some degree want to please and do respond to love and kindness as we care for them and interact with them. They also need and respond to a firm gentle hand when working with them. This is a long and then ongoing process that will only take place through repetitive training and time spent with them. So Frankie just be patient allow for some days that may be a bit off and don't blame yourself or Beulah just let it go and come back positive next time. Most of the best things in life occur when we have put in the work and all of a sudden you look and WOW there it is. Please include more of this story as time goes along! Maybe using a separate rope as a whip would help. Then the whole lunging rope is used in its full length, which gives the horse more space to run. If the person lunging accidentally pulls the rope even a little the horse will think you're asking it to turn your way. That's why the lunging rope should be longer or as i said before you should use another rope as a whip. Hope you the best🥰
When she can lunge already better, you should see a video with english subtitels: you ask on channel: fresian horses: How to lung, i explain everthing about it. There you will see a very professional lunging. But i have to say there are many ways to lunge. Frankie can learn a lot on this video. Try also to look videos about groundwork, like on channel free Spirit equestrian, and others. Like you don't understand dutch, german french or spanish, you have to look in the states or in the UK.💖 Oh, now i remember a good channel: yvette from featherlighthorsemanship, she has really many tips and mostly they are in english although she's dutch. Also channel equinehelper, from carmella. You can also teach your horse many with treats, when she does what you asked she deserve a treat.😊
My pony does this too but I've learnt she just saying do you want me to do this and most likely in your case your giving her an saying yeah you can come in . So if she stops or turns to you just point the rope where you want her to go and encourage her and id invest in a lunging whip which would.d help you encourage her . Also tip if you can see her ribs you need to feed her a little more until you can't see her ribs but can feel them.😊
Glad u are learning I was just as confused and frustrated when my first horse Storm would run off from me too! He is also quite the stubborn one. I mainly learned from other ppl in the horse community on how to treat their behavior like that! Lots of lounging gets them going. Oh and for her to trot try to wave the flag a bit more aggressive to her if she isn’t going faster try that it works. Make sure to get her going. Remember that you have to be the alpha (dominant one)

Why the title, when you arent going to get rid of her. Shes a older horse and Frankie was taught a certain way which obviously isnt the same way as Beulah was. ❤
The title is simply asking a question. Many people would throw in the towel when a horse doesn’t do exactly what they want to do. We are answering the question by training the horse, being patient and giving her the attention that she needs.

Maybe you should start with groundwork and than starting with lunging, but your bodylanguage is very important. You have to move with her and than lead her with your arms and even use a whip as a prolongation from your arm. There are horses who react even when you change a little bit your arm. It's only with much patience and love she will lurn. Good that you were looking for help. This man can teach you much. I follow many horsechannels over the world and in the netherlands where are realy many exelent trainers with horsemanship. There you can go to special academys and schools for horsemanship. But this man does an exelent job. It's mormal that your daughter don't know how to do, she has to learn, and i recommend to take some lessons, even with this man, he knows how to do. And it's not the horse fault, when the horse don't understand, you have to try, but with much patience. When your horse lowers the neck, she's relax.🥰
Small horses,like Welsh or Shetlands are notoriously bad 1:49 mannered. An adult can't ride them,so they get bad habits from kids riding them. Great vid!
I have learned alot dealing with horses some will lunge from a lunge line alot harder with a lead line lunging bc u have u watching moving ur footing more bc if u step in too close that will make them stop & pay attention to u, i like it in a round pin & have all my horses when i lunge them i point the direction were going & thats the direction they go when im ready for them to stop i say whoa & i pat my chest & tell them to come see me & make them come to me i reward them pet them & will point the other direction & we'll start that way, now that can be trained with a lunge line whoa small tug & pat ur chest come see me
Her previous instructor had a different kind of slipknot that she had taught her how to tie in a different way and the way he was showing her was different than what she was used to so it just took her a minute to like adjust
Its awesome owning horses but if you've never been around them and know nothing about them, its best to take lessons at a stable and learn about the care involved! There really is a lot more to it than buying feed and providing water.
Beulah is 14. She is a little set in her ways and opinions. Just take the time. She needs time and patience. Who knows how she was handled before? She may remember some bad stuff. Trust isn't built in a day, and there is NO SUCH THING as a "push button" horse...and mares can be moody, they always come into heat..just saying. A round pen will help. It centers the horse on the person instead of everything else around them.
You must realise its a wild animal and it will react to kindness but it needs to know who is in charge, mares can be difficult and it has been allowed to do her own thing for some time so you need to start again with it you need to start with contact everyday, grooming, cleaning hoofs and so on lead her about walking beside her you need to build her confidence in you feed her a nice treat now and again as you walk along with her most horses like mints but do not go mad, once she trusts you a hundred percent she will soon pick up what you want her to do, it takes time and contact but remember its not a pet you must be firm, horses are very intelligent and her a strange sense they use eye contact body language, voice and air movement, smells, and sound, to decide whats going on, so be confident when dealing with her,
This horse needs a friend she is clearly upset about being alone, she might feel better in training and have more confidence horses are herd animals they get confidence when with other horses or herd animals like donkeys or goats (this isn't hate just a thought to make the horse happier to listen)
It’s not right to get rid of her because a simple habit, ALSO, her lead rope isn’t proper, lunge lines are needed, when the horse moves towards you it usually means that the lead is too small and giving her the impression to come towards you, so definitely work with longer lead or lunge line!!
We had to use the lead line to get her started . She apparently had never been trained to lunge and she would start on the long lunge line at first so the trainer used the lead. She needs patience and time and we explained that in the video . People are too quick to rehome animals and not put in the work .
I train horses, but I don't do a lot of lounging. I do get them to lounge, but what in more important is to teach them to move away from pressure. When I lead them I will turn to the left or to the right and not really pull on the lead, I let them put the pressure on themselves, when I turn them to the right, I kind of bump them with my shoulder. And when I stop, I let them walk into the pressure of the lead rope. This teaches them to watch me. This is the first part of my ground training.the next step is teaching them to move away from pressure, which will teach them cues. I will touch their shoulder and start with a little pressure, they will move into the pressure, so I put more pressure and continue putting pressure, I do this until they release a little at which time I praise them and release the pressure. It's not long until I can barely touch them and say over and they will step over. It doesn't take long until I can just point and say over and they will step over. I do shoulder, hip and side Horses learn from the release of pressure, not the pressure and they're a lot happier with gentle methods and will make a partner with you. Your friend helping you is really gentle, gentle training makes a gentle horse. I personally don't like the way horses are taught to have a real low head carriage. It is not natural. I like a horses head to be carried with a little bit of an arch with the ears being a little higher than the withers. When they train horses for western events they use a head set to train them to get a low head carriage.

Helpful Tip: watch UA-camr, Free Spirit Equestrian. She just got a new horse, who is a bit green, as only 7yrs old. Thus, she will be doing groundwork w/her new handsome boy/gelded a few months ago. Groundwork is #2. One needs to bond & gain a mare’s trust before anything and one DOES NOT RUSH A MARE TO DO ANYTHING ON ANY GIVEN DAY! Heed advice or not.

She has been alone her whole life . We just uprooted and she needs time to adjust to her new space and people.

Maybe using a separate rope as a whip would help. Then the whole lunging rope is used in its full length, which gives the horse more space to run. If the person lunging accidentally pulls the rope even a little the horse will think you're asking it to turn your way. That's why the lunging rope should be longer or as i said before you should use another rope as a whip. Hope you the best🥰
Ya, you need a Bull Pen to work her in. The 'red flag' is a good idea too. With her very flexible pasterns she should be a very smooth ride.
When she can lunge already better, you should see a video with english subtitels: you ask on channel: fresian horses: How to lung, i explain everthing about it. There you will see a very professional lunging. But i have to say there are many ways to lunge. Frankie can learn a lot on this video. Try also to look videos about groundwork, like on channel free Spirit equestrian, and others. Like you don't understand dutch, german french or spanish, you have to look in the states or in the UK.💖
Oh, now i remember a good channel: yvette from featherlighthorsemanship, she has really many tips and mostly they are in english although she's dutch. Also channel equinehelper, from carmella.
You can also teach your horse many with treats, when she does what you asked she deserve a treat.😊
My pony does this too but I've learnt she just saying do you want me to do this and most likely in your case your giving her an saying yeah you can come in . So if she stops or turns to you just point the rope where you want her to go and encourage her and id invest in a lunging whip which would.d help you encourage her . Also tip if you can see her ribs you need to feed her a little more until you can't see her ribs but can feel them.😊

Glad u are learning I was just as confused and frustrated when my first horse Storm would run off from me too! He is also quite the stubborn one. I mainly learned from other ppl in the horse community on how to treat their behavior like that! Lots of lounging gets them going. Oh and for her to trot try to wave the flag a bit more aggressive to her if she isn’t going faster try that it works. Make sure to get her going. Remember that you have to be the alpha (dominant one)

Why the title, when you arent going to get rid of her. Shes a older horse and Frankie was taught a certain way which obviously isnt the same way as Beulah was. ❤
The title is simply asking a question. Many people would throw in the towel when a horse doesn’t do exactly what they want to do. We are answering the question by training the horse, being patient and giving her the attention that she needs.

Horses are amazing animals! Groomed them out of high school, never had my own.
I know of a great horse trainer he has trained 4 of our horses one more to go. He takes time to ride them out.

Maybe you should start with groundwork and than starting with lunging, but your bodylanguage is very important. You have to move with her and than lead her with your arms and even use a whip as a prolongation from your arm. There are horses who react even when you change a little bit your arm. It's only with much patience and love she will lurn. Good that you were looking for help. This man can teach you much. I follow many horsechannels over the world and in the netherlands where are realy many exelent trainers with horsemanship. There you can go to special academys and schools for horsemanship. But this man does an exelent job. It's mormal that your daughter don't know how to do, she has to learn, and i recommend to take some lessons, even with this man, he knows how to do.
And it's not the horse fault, when the horse don't understand, you have to try, but with much patience.

Small horses,like Welsh or Shetlands are notoriously bad 1:49 mannered. An adult can't ride them,so they get bad habits from kids riding them. Great vid!
I have learned alot dealing with horses some will lunge from a lunge line alot harder with a lead line lunging bc u have u watching moving ur footing more bc if u step in too close that will make them stop & pay attention to u, i like it in a round pin & have all my horses when i lunge them i point the direction were going & thats the direction they go when im ready for them to stop i say whoa & i pat my chest & tell them to come see me & make them come to me i reward them pet them & will point the other direction & we'll start that way, now that can be trained with a lunge line whoa small tug & pat ur chest come see me

One of the first things you learm is a slip knot. I am very surprised she took lessons and was not taught how to safely tie a horse.
Her previous instructor had a different kind of slipknot that she had taught her how to tie in a different way and the way he was showing her was different than what she was used to so it just took her a minute to like adjust
Its awesome owning horses but if you've never been around them and know nothing about them, its best to take lessons at a stable and learn about the care involved! There really is a lot more to it than buying feed and providing water.
Frankie has been taking lessons for years we have just not owned one.
Beulah is 14. She is a little set in her ways and opinions. Just take the time. She needs time and patience. Who knows how she was handled before? She may remember some bad stuff. Trust isn't built in a day, and there is NO SUCH THING as a "push button" horse...and mares can be moody, they always come into heat..just saying. A round pen will help. It centers the horse on the person instead of everything else around them.
She is used to roaming and doing alot if nothing and now she is not use to making her mind 😊
My advice is just if you have a horse for 2 months you can’t decide if you won’t keep it or keep it so wait until a half year ❤

You must realise its a wild animal and it will react to kindness but it needs to know who is in charge, mares can be difficult and it has been allowed to do her own thing for some time so you need to start again with it you need to start with contact everyday, grooming, cleaning hoofs and so on lead her about walking beside her you need to build her confidence in you feed her a nice treat now and again as you walk along with her most horses like mints but do not go mad, once she trusts you a hundred percent she will soon pick up what you want her to do, it takes time and contact but remember its not a pet you must be firm, horses are very intelligent and her a strange sense they use eye contact body language, voice and air movement, smells, and sound, to decide whats going on, so be confident when dealing with her,

This horse needs a friend she is clearly upset about being alone, she might feel better in training and have more confidence horses are herd animals they get confidence when with other horses or herd animals like donkeys or goats (this isn't hate just a thought to make the horse happier to listen)
You dont get mad but sometimes you have to be stern.
It’s not right to get rid of her because a simple habit, ALSO, her lead rope isn’t proper, lunge lines are needed, when the horse moves towards you it usually means that the lead is too small and giving her the impression to come towards you, so definitely work with longer lead or lunge line!!
We had to use the lead line to get her started . She apparently had never been trained to lunge and she would start on the long lunge line at first so the trainer used the lead. She needs patience and time and we explained that in the video . People are too quick to rehome animals and not put in the work .

Yes, the first thing we did was take her to the vet to ensure she was healthy.

Need to point when yu ask her to move when she goes....release the pressure !!
I train horses, but I don't do a lot of lounging. I do get them to lounge, but what in more important is to teach them to move away from pressure. When I lead them I will turn to the left or to the right and not really pull on the lead, I let them put the pressure on themselves, when I turn them to the right, I kind of bump them with my shoulder. And when I stop, I let them walk into the pressure of the lead rope.
This teaches them to watch me. This is the first part of my ground training.the next step is teaching them to move away from pressure, which will teach them cues. I will touch their shoulder and start with a little pressure, they will move into the pressure, so I put more pressure and continue putting pressure, I do this until they release a little at which time I praise them and release the pressure. It's not long until I can barely touch them and say over and they will step over. It doesn't take long until I can just point and say over and they will step over. I do shoulder, hip and side
Horses learn from the release of pressure, not the pressure and they're a lot happier with gentle methods and will make a partner with you.
Your friend helping you is really gentle, gentle training makes a gentle horse.
I personally don't like the way horses are taught to have a real low head carriage. It is not natural. I like a horses head to be carried with a little bit of an arch with the ears being a little higher than the withers. When they train horses for western events they use a head set to train them to get a low head carriage.

Yes I never heard such bs. If he was such he wouldn’t chase it with a piece of harness on the end of a lead rope in a circle too tight with a regular halter. And he certainly wouldn’t have tied it to kids swing equipment. Fork what if she pulled back! And he pinched it’s tendon to lift its feet.😬. What a croc of….

We are being very patient with her but routine is key with animals . She’s a good horse she just needs work and time and we are willing to give her both.

Helpful Tip: watch UA-camr, Free Spirit Equestrian. She just got a new horse, who is a bit green, as only 7yrs old. Thus, she will be doing groundwork w/her new handsome boy/gelded a few months ago.
