There is a recall on this shotgun. Well Remington calls it a recall I call it a unexpected hidden feature. If you slam the fore-end hard enough it will slam fire without pulling the trigger. 👌🏻
Loved the furby talking smack while you were setting up. Also loved how you parted his hair with the buckshot. And the piece of furby spinning in the air like a cartoon when you finished him off.
I have the hunting version of the 887. The bolt opens when you fire a shot even though it has a locking bolt that's supposed to keep the bolt forward until you pump it. Remington said that was normal, but I know it's not. It would be like your ar bolt opening on just blowback before any gas made it into the gas tube. They discontinued the 887 after only a few years because of several quality issues, and a safety recall where the firing pin would get stuck forward and it would slam fire when closing the bolt. I've taken a few ducks, and a turkey with mine. It was the cheapest 3.5 inch 12 gauge on the market when I bought it.
I love how after coming up with these frankly very grounded and realistic home defense scenarios, he just devolves into "I'm not really sure what this scenario is." *And proceeds to blow up a gallon of mustard.*

The nitromag has a memory foam-like recoil pad that really helps with felt recoil. The one I used to have shot like a dream. I regret selling it every day.
I have a 887 for duck hunting and love it. Super lightweight and works great. They did have a firing pin breaking issue but I believe it's been fixed. It was a issue 10 years ago
you get the recall on all of em... here copy paste: Dec. 1, 2013 and Nov. 24, 2014 for safety reasons. Remington flagged these guns over a defect that might bind the firing pin to the forward position.
One thing I've noticed when people do these door penetration tests is that they're using hollow-core doors, which is essentially filled with a honeycomb of cardboard. Can you do some similar things with solid-core doors? I love the content, and I think you'd do some great things with some different solid style doors.
so basically you want to know if 00 buckshot will go through 2 solid inchs of seasoned hard oak or other hard wood no but most homes are not built with solid doors now if you are talking foam core doors im gonna say yes it will
@Nathaniel Shrock While this is true, we always make it a point to change to solid doors whenever we move. It just feels better having a solid bedroom door like that. Who knows, it may inadvertently be much better protection for scenarios like that.
Going through a door is not the point unless your assailant is standing in front of a door and you are worried about passing through the target AND the door behind them. Primary gun safety is “always be sure of your target “ therefore shooting through a wall or door to hit a target on the other side, is irresponsible at best and criminal negligence at worst. What Scott did an excellent job of proving is that over penetration is a genuine hazard in any typical home defensive situation. Additionally most states require that you be in imminent danger and fear for your life….try convincing a jury of that if you shot through the door or wall without being able to clearly identify your intended target.
My wife bought me the exact shotty years ago when they first came out. I absolutely love mine. Never had a single issue from it. Had buddy's with the 887 hunting version and they hated it but they all liked mine. Glad to see this vid
Scott was in the zone for this video, editing and shooting! Glad to see the creativity is still flowing strong! Looking forward to the next video already 👌🏻
I have several guns laying around in different locations for home defence. My go to is my Remington Model 870 Wingmaster chambered in 2 3/4 inch 12 gauge that I converted into a combat shot gun. It's loaded with deer slugs. It has a rifled bore, so most shot shells are out of the question. My dad always said that the best home defence round for a shotgun is bird shot. In most home invasion scenarios you are only going to be a few feet away from the target. At close to point blank range, getting hit with bird shot is a death penalty. It's going to turn whatever is on the receiving end to mincemeat.
Street Sweeper v. lineup of 5-gallon water bottles. Those 3-1/2 inch shells penetrated quite well and still managed to deliver their loads where it mattered. Excellent demo. Stay safe out there.
Watching this really brings back memories. My first shotgun was an 887 Nitromag. I bought it for 400, took it commercial fishing for a few seasons, then sold it for 400. I regret it every day. The stock has a memory foam like recoil pad that makes shooting those heavy loads a dream.
I bought an 887 Nitromag the first year they came out. I swap out the "tactical" choke for a turkey choke and hunt with it during turkey season. The great thing is that it functions very well with 2.75", 3" and 3.5" shells. You don't need to feed it 3.5" shells all the time, but it sure is impressive when you do!
This is the first shotgun that I’ve ever purchased! When I bought it some years ago there was a recall because when you would pump the shotgun to load a shell the gun would fire once the round was chambered with no trigger pull! Luckily mine was past the recall and it still operates like the day it was purchased! I would highly recommend it! 💪😎
I had this same gun, shot 3.5 inch 00buck and turkey loads from it. The 00buck really surprised me on the recoil. After several shots my shoulder was sore and bruised. My buddy wanted a home defense shotgun so I sold it to him last year and bought myself a maverick 88 20 inch barrel for my home defense gun
What Scott missed in biology class is that Rangeasaures gets less off the handle violent with age as seen by the adult specimen caught on here from time to time, it can wait in ambush, communicate, make plans and use tools. KB is lucky to have such magnificent range specimen.
That was awesome!! Love the double wall shot. The dust from the first “wall” in slow motion, the dust cloud burst and then it hit the second wall and kind of mushroomed out…. Very cool footage!
The wall penetration is such an interesting set-up that I’ve barely seen on UA-cam. Would be cool if you did some tests to see what common calibers can go through.
In Puerto Rico, nothing goes through the wall aside from a very powerful rifle round, because houses aren't made of wood. Over there, people are actually safe from bullets falling out of the sky because of celebratory gunfire.
Yes the North American cardboard houses are pretty confusing to us European's. Here in Austria our houses are made of bricks and concrete, even inner walls. I use an AR-15 for home defence. The walls of my apartment are about 2 foot thick concrete so that's going to stop most things under large rifle rounds.
@@davedavids57 There's a ton of factors, but it's partly to do with the simple fact after 1945 we needed a *lot* of houses, as fast as possible and preferably inexpensively. There was only one way to do that on the scale we needed.
It always amazes me that at the start of each video the range looks spotless even though you basically trash it a couple times a week. Would be interesting to see how long it takes to pick up all the bits of pieces and what you do with a ll the trashed tables. Time lapses of the clean up afterward at the end?
Since so many houses are insulated with spray foam, you should do a test with that too. Closed Cell spray foam is the more dense of the 2 types. I think it would make for a cool test. I run a spray foam company and can provide you with the test sections if you’d like.
Hey! I've had the long barrel version of the 887 for years and years. My wife bought it for me right after we got married so I could hunt upland game and dove when I was stationed at Fort Bragg. Close to 10 years ago now. Nice and cheap when I was lower enlisted back then.
Remington liked the look of the Benelli Nova so much that they made their own version of it. Too bad they went through a product recall and stopped making it
Everything in this video was awesome. The intro was so funny, watching the ferbie get destroyed was just amazing, and the Arnold accent was just the extra icing on the cake. Thanks for another entertaining video Scott. Hope you have a great rest of the week.
The 887 seems like a viable choice for defending your property when the front door is closed. Personally think the Russian KS-23 would be best, as it’s a 6 gauge (6.27 specifically). Also: Tactical T-Rex Junior. Never thought I’d see the day.
@@haunted5311 The KS-23 is just an aircraft barrel that the Russians took to fire low velocity 23mm grenades, and 23mm is equivalent to the US/British 6 gauge or the European 4 gauge.
This video explains a lot to me why the houses in the US are build like this… to have the option to blast with your home defence gun through every wall 😂 btw the part with “who is out there?” *starts shooting* got me 😂
Would love to see the door breech used on both the Remington and the Mossberg. I think the 590 has the door breech on it. Love my Mossberg 835, shoots the 3 1/2 Magnums and I use a extra full Turkey choke with it.
Imagine breaking into Scot's house worried about what shotgun he's going to blow you away with when instead he just crashes his arms through the wall like Mr. X and beats you with his own door that he ripped off its hinges, man's an unstoppable beast
Great video Scott. It reminds me when I was a Sales Associate with a now defunct Sporting Goods store chain. We ( firearms sales associates) had a lot of guys come in and try to get their female friends to get a 10 gauge 3.5 inch shotgun for them. Note a lot were Small in frame , think twig 90 pounds dripping wet. We would first hand them a 12 Gauge Remington, or Benelli auto loader a lot could not work the action or even hold it in the ready for more than a few seconds. So we suggest a pump. 410 shot gun. The guy usually has a attitude that she Needs a 8 GAUGE 4inch shell, or 500 S&W or a Godzilla 9000 for home defense. We ask to try a little test. We have the guy turn around while whe unlock two shotguns ,normally a .410 and 12 gauge. If possible the same model type just different gauges. Then we hand the person a shot gun and ask them to briskly work the action, repeat with the other. Nine times out of ten the guy was not able to tell it was most of the time the .410 shotgun that the person was working with was the most efficient . Our loading suggestion was first round birdshot. #2and 3 00 buck shot, then lead slugs then lastly Barnes solid copper slugs. Our reasoning behind this is ...One the sound of the slide being wracked and a shell should stop most. Two if you had to fire the birdshot because of the other person's actions, it could be said that one only applied force to stop the attack. Three if they(offender) keep going toward you the threat to your personage is increased , so is the appropriate level of protection. So after the first round all bets are off, and you have to protect yourself and those in your domicile. What I am trying to say that penatration is good, however, a firearm that one shot a kiju, however Is not controllable, does no one any good. I had several people who Had to get the hand cannon or shoulder mounted howitzer, later come back and tell us that we were right. We always told the customer that it was better to be able to at 10 meters to hit the 10X ring with a smaller caliber with all the rounds , rather miss and not be able to get back on target because of excessive recoil. I quess it all a balancing act in what the shooter feels is an acceptable trade off. It be great if you did a video on that . Small stature folks (youths, ) skinny to Average, size with various degrees of shooting skills.
Democrats will say if you used birdshot, your life was not threatened. In most areas, if deadly force is allowed at all, democrats will only permit killing the person. Warning shots and shoot to wound means if you had tine to do that, your life was not threatened.
Also, slugs turn a shotgun into a rifle and the slug is far more likely to go through the wall, through the bad guy, through the next wall and hit the neighbor.
True slugs can penatrate walls. However If your attacker is not getting the hell out of dodge after you telling them that you have called 911, you wracking of the action and first round and getting to a safe spot. They are not your "buddy or freind", so all bets are off. However a good shooter is aware of what lies beyond their intended target. As with any firearm use they are risks, by using that loading, God forbid you have to actually injure , maim. or un alive your attacker. You have a better chance of a no bill on a shooting inquiry. As someone who has been twice in a active shooter situation , and once having to stop a "meth headed theif" .. Sometimes the brown matter hits the fan and you need to be on the less soiled list. It All comes down to a simple idea... Know your firearm. Its strengths and weaknesses. Train with your firearm often. Hone your muscle memory. Know your limitations of you and your terrain.
@Neal Krueger - you obviously do not live in a US Democrat occupied zone. Bad gu6s do not run when confronted with a firearm. They are under the protection of the Democrat party. The bad guy calls 911, and you get aressted. Then the bad guy robs your house while you are in jail. San Francisco legalized shoplifting.
I’ve got a Remington 11-87 that is simply a beast. 👍 Chambered for 2 3/4”, 3”, and 3 1/2”. I chose that one because I “should” always be able to find ammo for it and the type/size won’t matter to me if I’m having to scrounge ammo on the run.
As an European I always keep forgetting that you guys on the other side of the Pond have inside walls essentially made from glorified cardboard. I would love to see a penetration test on a European Concrete Wall.
Well y’all’s buildings were made before Cost effective building code occurred in our young nation. I love capitalism but it did indeed make our paper walls lmao! Y’all have stone and brick. We have paper, dry wall and some illegal labor
@@mrbuildbeastnz You mean like the Quake literally three days ago on the coastline of Greece and Turkey? If half the ground under your house shifts a couple of feets away, while the other half stays where it is, absolutely no material used in building houses will withstand this force. Scott, I've gotta say this episode rang home since the changes to my state's gun laws. My wife & I have been evaluating our home defense plan (with baby on the way). Hey Scott, you should get a Standard Manufacturing DP-12 shotgun. Large capacity and a lot of fun! Definitely take out a lot of watermelons, poupon, and the unlikable egg plant lol. Good video brotha, enjoyed the demonstration of what over penetration looks like in walls.
I really like that when Scott goes, "look at you!" When I think of a home defense shotgun I usually think of either 12 gauge or 10-gauge! I would say Scott that gas is just as terrifying as the home invasion
I saw that pump handle and knew what it was right away. I've loved that shotgun (regular bird gun variant) for over a decade. Tough as nails and overall a damn good bird gun. Those 3 1/2" Black Clouds in that baby really bring the geese down too
Hey Scott. I just got a brand new GForce GFY-1 12 ga. Bullpup today. This thing kicks like a mule with 3" shells, 1 1/4 ounce slugs. Would love to see what this thing would do in one of your videos with your creative mind! Overall, I've been very impressed with this shotgun. Thanks.
Nice shotgun Scott, massive results with this one, super power for home defense in protecting you neighbors house from your bedroom 😀. Would like to see what slugs would do out of it. Interested to know if you can shoot standard and 3" from the same shotgun, that would make it awesome if it does. Definitely revisit this one , maybe let Matt shoot it after bragging about the super low recoil LOL. Have a great and safe week sir.

870 super mag was my first gun. From proof test markings i could see that it was imported at 2016. Have heard that range of remingtons suffer poor quality control but least that example is still operating fine. No rust and orginal wood parts are holding nicely. Thousands of rounds trough from clayshots to 2.3oz hunting loads. I paid for long chamber. I will use whole chamber when hunting.
Ive got a Mossberg 930 SPX that takes 3” . Ive only ever used 2 3/4 “ in it but with either 00 buck or slugs it is a beast and plenty of shotgun for just about any application
Watching your videos is like finding an oasis in the desert of the week. Shot gun is sure to hit the target, even behind doors. Nice little T-Rex, very funny. Thanks Scott.😂🤜🏻🤛🏻👏🏻👍🏻🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
I myself have been in a bad spot in life before and unfortunately decoded through desperation to break into homes for jewelry, cash, food, electronics. Needed money for bills and food. I know 1st hand when a person breaks into a home they'd do anything to get out. Even something violent to not get caught. Thank God I turned my life around and completely made a 180 turn. Got a good job and a family now. My wife knows my past and I've told her if someone breaks in drop them. They will drop you just to get out of the situation.
Until you shoot your child in the room behind the home invader, or simply the neighbour walking his dog with a stray shot. Just saying, there IS an overpenetration point ^^
Great intro and video. The demonstration showed that such a load would be extremely dangerous to family members in other rooms. Great looking shotgun, very effective at hitting targets behind interior wall and doors.
I’d love to see you test the tavor bull pup shotgun and the DPS 12 from standard, the various keltec’s also come to mind….home defense shotguns and the bull pup design are a great pairing
To be fair, a "standard" 2 3/4 inch 00-buckshot would also go straight through a wall with enough energy to do significant damage to anything on the other side. Drywall and insulation aren't exactly known for their projectile hindering capabilities :P Still a very impressive shotgun though :)
Exactly what I was thinking. What most people don't get is that the whole point of stretched magnum shotgun shells is more pellets. They aren't going any faster, so penetration is the same.
Love the deadpan humor of "Didn't want to blow holes in the walls of my house.....so I cut chunks out of them instead!". I think the biggest "fear factor" of a pump shottie is hearing that slide being racked, anyone with more than 2 braincells to rub together for warmth on a cold night hearing THAT will have to rethink their course of action. The fact that it blows holes in everything in its path is just a bonus, lol.
I’ve always been interested in seeing what kind of damage other calibres can do through walls. Ever since the first John Wick I think, seeing him injure a guy through a wall with 2 .45 rounds in the home invasion scene.
12 gauge shotgun... no matter what they look like they're all the same.. 12 gaufge... only dif? barrel length... And, they recalled them in 2013 for a catastrophic problem :-\
THANK YOU!!!! for your statement of the first scenario. I totally agree. If some guy breaks into my house I want the most power Ivan get in my gun. I don’t care about the bullets going through my house. I want tons of power and the guy hurting or dead.
This shotgun was the first gun I signed out in my name when I turned 18 and I will say for certainty this MF heavy it is absolute perfection for a home defense gun.
have a go with the AA-12 (full auto 12 gauge shotgun). If we needed to get it to troops. It floats, it's waterproof, and a 30 round magazine. I think you would have a good time with it, I know I would.
you caught me with the thumbnail photo. I was unaffected by the recall thankfully. I wish they would have continued making em. Please bring this back #remingtonarms
I like you, you always make me chuckle, i would suggest the Remington V3 TAC13 auto. It holds 5+1 of 2 3/4" shells and is in pistol format with a 13" barrel so no nfa hassel,,,I would suggest Winchester 00 buck magnum spouting 15 of 00 buck ball, or the Brenneke KO 1oz slug or Fwederal Trueball copper plated 1oz slug,,,ijs,,,tttbotth #4 buckshot, #1buck, 0 buck, 00buck, 000 buck and slugs for self defense,,,but any size shot at room distance, you can turn em into hamburger

you get the recall on all of em... here copy paste: Dec.
@@shrock1995 And most definitely for every other room IN the house.... :)
so basically you want to know if 00 buckshot will go through 2 solid inchs of seasoned hard oak or other hard wood no but most homes are not built with solid doors now if you are talking foam core doors im gonna say yes it will
@Nathaniel Shrock
While this is true, we always make it a point to change to solid doors whenever we move. It just feels better having a solid bedroom door like that. Who knows, it may inadvertently be much better protection for scenarios like that.
@Nathaniel Shrock in the in we have solid doors ( and walls) in general
I have the hunting version and I love it! Although you definitely need a limb saver if you shoot 3in or above cause it’s so light.
I had the tactical as well, regret selling it. It has a really great recoil pad from the factory. Almost like memory foam.
Thanks Scott for giving us these laughs. You never dissapoint us! 👍
My very first gun ever, 18 years old first gun first shot gun, turning 30 this year and still have and love it, amazed someone else has found this gun

If you're recoil sensitive try a Phoenix arms recoil reducing stock. Absorbs an insane amount of the recoil 👍🏽

4:06 “Who’s out there?” BOOM 😂
The wall penetration is such an interesting set-up that I’ve barely seen on UA-cam. Would be cool if you did some tests to see what common calibers can go through.
In Puerto Rico, nothing goes through the wall aside from a very powerful rifle round, because houses aren't made of wood. Over there, people are actually safe from bullets falling out of the sky because of celebratory gunfire.
Paul Harrell has several videos on the topic.
Content only gets better and better. Family friendly firearm info and safety. Love it!
I like Herrera and such, but it is nice to have a channel that I can watch with my kids.
It always amazes me that at the start of each video the range looks spotless even though you basically trash it a couple times a week. Would be interesting to see how long it takes to pick up all the bits of pieces and what you do with a ll the trashed tables. Time lapses of the clean up afterward at the end?
I imagine the local wildlife loves Scott's range after he explodes all that food on it.

It may be too similar to this scatter gun, but a review of the Beretta 1301 tactical shotgun by none other than KB would be super sweet.
Entertaining, funny and very informative! Most people won’t shoot their walls to test for collateral damage. Thanks Scott!
A similar setup to this is a Mossberg 835 with an 18.5" Security barrel (They apparently were special order for a time, not anymore).
metal worker here.. given a shotgun is of such simple desigh, barrels can be obtainded from home hardware....
Remington liked the look of the Benelli Nova so much that they made their own version of it. Too bad they went through a product recall and stopped making it
Scott has way to much fun with his intros, and it is magnificent!
Everything in this video was awesome. The intro was so funny, watching the ferbie get destroyed was just amazing, and the Arnold accent was just the extra icing on the cake. Thanks for another entertaining video Scott. Hope you have a great rest of the week.
Blowin' away Furbies, Tight Groups, Big Packages, Over Penetration are some of the reasons I love this Channel!
The 887 seems like a viable choice for defending your property when the front door is closed. Personally think the Russian KS-23 would be best, as it’s a 6 gauge (6.27 specifically).
Also: Tactical T-Rex Junior. Never thought I’d see the day.
6 gauge??
Damn dude I'd love to see what that monster could do.
Yes the ks-23 has explosive rounds available too.
We need to somehow get Scott a KS-23.
Too bad the buckshot rounds for it were no more powerful than 12 gauge 2 3/4" shells
@@haunted5311 The KS-23 is just an aircraft barrel that the Russians took to fire low velocity 23mm grenades, and 23mm is equivalent to the US/British 6 gauge or the European 4 gauge.
This video explains a lot to me why the houses in the US are build like this… to have the option to blast with your home defence gun through every wall 😂
btw the part with “who is out there?” *starts shooting* got me 😂
Walls are built with drywall all over. But it'd be cool if they were built from AR500 Plate.
Would love to see the door breech used on both the Remington and the Mossberg. I think the 590 has the door breech on it.
Love my Mossberg 835, shoots the 3 1/2 Magnums and I use a extra full Turkey choke with it.
I own a Standard Manufacturer DP12 shotgun. Holds sixteen rounds. It's a bullpup shotgun and is awesome.
I like the way that Scott handles pest problems !

Love to see a earthquake on a European wall like nz be a pile of rubble no need to break in
@@mrbuildbeastnz You mean like the Quake literally three days ago on the coastline of Greece and Turkey?
If half the ground under your house shifts a couple of feets away, while the other half stays where it is, absolutely no material used in building houses will withstand this force.
I got to admit, the Quake in the Mediterranean Sea was 0.1 Magnitude weaker than the one in NZ.
But also the Epicenter in Europe was about 400 miles closer to the Coast of Greece
Wanna see that too, european walls are just different breed hahahaha

I myself have been in a bad spot in life before and unfortunately decoded through desperation to break into homes for jewelry, cash, food, electronics. Needed money for bills and food. I know 1st hand when a person breaks into a home they'd do anything to get out. Even something violent to not get caught. Thank God I turned my life around and completely made a 180 turn. Got a good job and a family now. My wife knows my past and I've told her if someone breaks in drop them. They will drop you just to get out of the situation.
There's never too much defense when it comes to home defense.
Until you shoot your child in the room behind the home invader, or simply the neighbour walking his dog with a stray shot.
Just saying, there IS an overpenetration point ^^

Scott is literaly loosing his mind with the intros
To be fair, a "standard" 2 3/4 inch 00-buckshot would also go straight through a wall with enough energy to do significant damage to anything on the other side. Drywall and insulation aren't exactly known for their projectile hindering capabilities :P
Still a very impressive shotgun though :)
Exactly what I was thinking. What most people don't get is that the whole point of stretched magnum shotgun shells is more pellets. They aren't going any faster, so penetration is the same.
I have had a 870 supermag for years it's chambered in 2 3/4 to 3 1/2" all I ever use is 3 1/2" steel #2 shot works great for pests
