Yes, this is for real. TLDR: Unknowingly, I have been slowly destroying this UA-cam channel and need to make drastic changes to save it. While we did recently cross the 100,000 subscriber milestone, viewership has been struggling for some time and I couldn't figure out why. I enlisted the help of a longtime UA-cam employee who worked in Content Strategy, and he immediately pinpointed a few major issues: 1) Live stream format is driving away previous viewers 2) Content / format is all over the place, lacking cohesiveness and consistency 3) Too much time spent on other platforms (ie: website, Patreon, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook) with little return on investment I absolutely love my life as a full-time content creator, but realize that the Sewing Report needs to grow at a much faster pace than it currently is in order for this to be sustainable. I'm fully committed to doing whatever it takes to continue my journey on UA-cam. Forgot to mention this in the video, but I have shut down my Patreon page as I have to be more laser focused primarily on UA-cam. I greatly appreciate the small but mighty support over there! My presence on other social media platforms will likely be scaled down for the meantime. You are going to see a dramatic shift in videos uploaded here. They WILL be better and hopefully more of them will appeal to you so I can earn your viewership. Moving forward, *all* live streams will be on a new channel Sewing Report LIVE 🧵 this will be a more casual, chatty format to sew + create in real time, chat, have fun, get industry reports + interviews! www.youtube.com/@sewingreportlive THANK YOU for watching and supporting over the years! I would love for you to share what type of videos you enjoy the most here, and looking forward to having a fantastic 2023!
Thank you for your vulnerability!! It's refreshing to see someone who is coachable and willing to do what her viewers want to see. I love the sewing tutorials you do and I'm exciting to seeing your channel grow and thrive!
I subscribed to watch sewing videos (I'm not a quilter though). I'm a fairly beginner sewer and like to watch content that shows sewing tutorials, especially ones where there are free patterns or instructions (i.e. your video on drawstring bags). I also like info on sewing tools, tips and tricks. The effort you put into your videos is appreciated!
Sorry this has been hard for you. From my personal experience with the channel, I can’t watch, or listen to live streams, they’re too long. But I will fully watch a tutorial. That’s why I joined this channel many years ago. Thank you for your transparency. If it’s not broke, don’t fix it, just make it better.
I was new to YT and sewing when I discovered your site. I am not a quilter. That’s just not my thing. I came across your channel and immediately subscribed because you provided information that increased my knowledge with sewing. Whether it was providing comparisons of sewing machine or tools needed for sewing, I learned. I like that you find out about new trends, learn it,master it, and then later present it for us to learn (ie. Embrillance software). 😊 I have a sewing machine, Cricut and an embroidery machine and I am ready for you to teach! Do your thang girl!😊❤
I like tutorials and product reviews - mostly because I can rewind or jump ahead if I want to. I don’t usually watch lives unless I’m multitasking and it’s on in the background (and then I’m not really listening anyway.) and it has to be a coincidence that I’m free at the time the live is happening. I always enjoy your videos tho and appreciate what you’re doing. Keep going!
Great idea doing another channel for lives. I'm one of those who likes watching them. I really like the reporting aspect. And getting down to the nitty gritty on the sewing and crafting world. Be proud of yourself, your work is so professional. Bottom line for me is I like watching you and how you present content. Hope you don't have too much to do and get burnt. Keep it up Jen!
I'm a long-time subsciber and you actually inspired me to start my own channel. Please make content you would want to see and have fun because when you have fun, so do we! Congrats on the play button. You got this and are not underprivileged because of a media background. If you are lacking, its only because of the alligators in your backyard. Take care and thanks for everything you do.
I am so proud of you! I don't think you have destroyed this channel, I think it's just easy to get off track a little when you have so many interest yourself. JMO But we love you for who you are regardless!! I 💯 subscribed a few years ago when you were showing more about how to use different sewing feet and was hooked when you started explaining how to use embrilliance embroidery! I learned so much from you on that and would have loved more but I also want you to do what YOU enjoy or else you can't be satisfied with what you're doing...if that makes sense. Lol. Anyway I always watch but hardly ever leave a comment but felt in my heart I needed to now. BTW I'm your 3rd subscriber on your new channel. YAY! 🥰 YOU'VE GOT THIS!!
I think it’s really great that you’re refining your craft. Thank you for your transparency and honesty. It takes courage to put yourself out there like that and I want you to know I appreciate it and recognize what it takes to self analyze and hear those deflating things. I’m excited for you! There is so much opportunity with the changes you’re making. I can’t wait to see!
You were my first sewing youtuber I subscribed to! My most memorable video series was one you did making a quilt. The one that had that very handy perfect binding technique that changed my word and make me enjoy binding (as much as I can at least). I think it was a dinosaur theme quilt.
Oh my! I love your channel. Honestly, I think we all get so busy and we are so involved with careers, hobbies and life in general that it’s becomes so hard to stay on task, stay in touch with everything we are involved. Keep up the good work! Sometimes we all need to make changes to keep our own interests. I think that you have done a wonderful job.
First off congratulations on 100k subs! I've enjoyed hearing your thoughts about it, like sponsorship, other craft things, your principles on life or this channel, etc. Some channels are open for personal things, some don't but it's good to know little about creators, I guess. Sewing-wise, I'm a dressmaking kind of person, not quilts. So anything about it, patterns, fabrics, tutorials for the pattern, or specific skills, anything I will watch! I found you when I'm researching certain things about sewing, I was a super beginner at that time, and needed to study a lot of things. (Still do) If you share your know-how and experience in sewing in general, it would be a great help to me. Wish you all the luck in the world!
Hi Jen! I watch your channel for sewing tips especially for embroidery machine. It’s probably about 2 years since I sub to your channel. You do make sewing fun and I appreciate all your efforts! Congrats on reaching that milestone!🎉 I’m excited for you and I look forward to what’s next! It’s All Good, Jen!❤
Hi Jen, thanks for sharing. Sorry to hear your struggles, I can relate. I spent a year trying to pívot my channel and with each video I dug a deeper grave. Eventually I started a new channel in a new niche and I’m enjoying it a lot more. I’m not monetised yet but already getting more views than when I left this channel. I feel that the sewing niche is very specific so running a channel can be challenging. Good luck with reviving this channel and starting the new one. (Ps not sure if you watch Jessica stansberry but her channel died at 100k and she revived it and spoke about it)
When I found your channel I was so excited with your sewing tutorials and have loved every one of them. I still go back and rewatch them. I do like product reviews but more so sewing content.
I just finished watching your whole video (previous comment was posted only about 15 min in). I paused to think about the difference between you and other sewing creators. The biggest difference is they are focused on patterns and fabric. Historically, I would watch- get FOMO, and order. I have a crap ton of fabrics and patterns- still unused because I’m distracted by the next new shiny video. I really appreciate that you don’t put your viewers on that hamster wheel. Stay true to you. You are about making creative spaces affordable. Maybe do stash down or pattern challenges. Destash/ clean your space challenges. UFO challenges. Thrift or upcycle challenges. No prizes needed- just camaraderie. Finished project / peaceful space is the prize. This, I think is your strength.
after saying i didn't typically watch your live stream, i decided i would sign up for that channel. 🙂 because if that's where you will talk about things like "Craftsy" and other industry news, then i don't want to miss it. i'm with you on whatever channels you have. You're awesome!
There are tons of sewing and quilting tutorial channels, but the videos I've always liked most from your channel are the ones where you investigate and share new products and current events in the sewing community. That style of video matches "The Sewing Report" name; I'd love to tune in to learn about new patterns, techniques, and technology in the world of sewing. You have a great investigative/journalistic style of presenting information and I'd love to see more of that!
Thank you! I think that type of content will be moving over to Sewing Report Live. Wish I could do all of it on one channel, but I've been told it's really hurting the main channel so I'm kind of forced to separate it.
Jen, I love your channel and will follow and watch all your content. Your honesty with products and real views makes me want to watch, even for products I’m not thinking about buying- I appreciate your honesty. I hope your changes work out and help you get more ppl excited about sewing and DIY.
Well, I think you're great for being so brave to ask for help and critique and honestly being open to it! So many people don't do this in their lives. They turn away and get defensive or whatever rather than hearing helpful advice, so I hope you doing so much better and reach your goals. I actually liked seeing your channel over some others because it is different than many sewing channels that just "jump on the bandwagon" and are showing how to sew the latest and greatest trend just like everyone else. You better not leave because I somehow saw in IG or somewhere that you are here where I live!!!!
Hi Jen: here are some things I would like to see more of. Some background on me first: I am a novice sewer, I have several sewing machines and sergers, have time to do projects and mostly taylor my own clothes and some deco projects. Now I would like to see more videos on making clothes, more serger techniques, curtains for slider doors, upcycling for used clothes and pattern PDF how to. I love your channel and will check out the live stream. I hope this helps you from one person's point of view. I need you!
I don’t know how many years I’ve been a sub of your channel. I used to have a different account, and was a sub then. When I first subbed years ago, I looked forward to your vids and watched everything you put out. You were doing sewing tutorials and reviewing seeing machines. You were often using an Eversewn then. I began not watching when you added dollhouse building. I can see this channel as a makers’ space and I’ll watch the arts and crafts I’m interested in. I actually like your honesty about cricut’s issues or craftsy’s weird membership issues. So I’ve subbed there. But I like that you’ve separated them. I’m more likely to watch.
Hi Jen. The reason I joined your channel was because of your detailed reviews on sewing machines and also your review of the Toaster sweater by Sew House Seven. I look for channels that actually make a sewing project, mostly clothing, and then model it to see what it looks like on a human 😊 and give your feedback on anything in the pattern that may have been challenging and how you resolved it.
Hi! I just found your channel today at 1 am, sewing a “simple” hem for an important client, and I was really struggling in how ugly was getting, I made it 3 times, looking for answers and I found about the walking foot, I just ran and change it and the result was so perfect! I just said, I have to follow this girl! Even though I’m “expert at sewing, I thought you are wonderful! It also helped me the Chinese stick, I hope this comment result helpful for what are you looking for! You was a light in the dark of the project I have to get ready in a few hours. Thank you very much!
I love your channel. I don't watch live streaming videos while they are live, but I will go back and watch them when I'm able to. I don't think you've destroyed your channel. I loved the topics you covered. I'm not very good at sewing, but I love doing it. I'll continue watching whatever you decide to put out. I wish you the best with your new channel. 😍
I love that you are not sponsored and you give your honest opinion! I don’t really have lots of time for chitchat most days, so the live videos drive me nuts with the chatter (when I only hear one side). I usually will pass on a video where there is a bunch of one way conversations…we only hear the person being filmed and so it’s really annoying. Sorry if I’m not explaining that well, and I’m not talking about you specifically- just in general. There’s one lady that I used to watch, because she is a great teacher but I stopped because of the hour of “Hi Sam, hi Carol, good to see you Terry……Linda asked……” Ugh! Glad you will be separating the channel a bit. I probably will watch your Live channel once in a while but prefer the other. Best wishes to you, you’re awesome!!!
I am a long time subscriber. My favourite videos are quilt related. I also enjoy your gift making/idea videos. My least favorite are the designer purses and bags. I think you're onto something separating the lives into their own channel. Good luck with everything that this gets you on the right track to achieving all your goals!
While I don't watch live streaming for any of the channels I subscribe to, I enjoy your channel for its wide variety of content. As a beginner sewer, I appreciate the techniques, tips, product reviews and encouragement. I also appreciate your dedication and honesty about how difficult it is to turn what you love into a business.
I especially love your videos that tell us about a pattern you made and the challenges and outcomes. Also really appreciate your sewing machine reviews. You have great content! Thanks so much.
That explains a lot. The first video I ever saw, which was a review of your favorite sewing machine, I was like "NEWS CASTER? what an awesome voice!!" You have a subscriber from me. I love the how-to's, pattern reviews, and all the "must knows" of sewing. (Will add more thoughts once I finish the video.)
Wishing you all the luck. I cannot imagine the technical details of being a you tuber. I love your videos but am ashamed to say I forget to hit the thumbs up button.
I've watched your live streams after the fact. I enjoy your product reviews and sewing industry news (like your reporting on Craftsy) the most. I have watched a few tutorials and think you do a really good job with them. Most of the projects don't appeal to me as an advanced sewist, but, I think they are really well done and you should focus on what is the best for your business. Thanks for all your hard work, it is not easy!
What drew me into your channel was your reporter-style reviews of machines, subscriptions, community news, etc. I feel your reviews are unbiased and fact valid. After that then, I started watching your tutorials. I love how thorough you are with the tutorials for people exploring sewing as a craft. Maybe both types of content can exist on channels of their own.
I hopped on your train when you were discussing Cricut. With the channel named the sewing report and all of the information you were providing, I assumed sewing related topics would be “reported”. Not that your regular content is not good, please don’t think that. I would just be very interested in hearing current affairs of all types related to the sewing community. I enjoy lives and typically watch them after the fact when I’m sewing or doing some sort of task.
Hi!i I recently joined to watch tutorials and for your sewing room organization tips. I really like what I am seeing so far and I have tried a couple of your projects. Enjoyed the shopping at Joann’s video, and tips about where to get material online. Thanks!
I just discovered your channel after seeing a commercial for Craftsy and trying to find reviews. Damn those algorithms 😏 that control what we see. Looking forward to exploring your channel and hope you don’t delete any videos.
Thank you! All the videos here remain, but moving forward all of the content like the Craftsy video will be on Sewing Report LIVE. This channel will be focused on sewing + quilting edited content.
I initially subscribed to the Sewing Report because I loved your videos on using the Brother 1034D Serger. I had just purchased one at the time and was lost in the beginning especially with threading the machine. You were really helpful to me and very straightforward with directions. I also enjoyed your other sewing videos so I decided to stay for cake and I'm still here! Thanks for all of your work, enjoy your channel
Thank you so much for sharing this. I can tell you there's similar things happening in the blogosphere where the things that worked to grow your audience even two years ago don't work anymore. It used to be that if you wanted any traction at all you were expected to basically make it a second full time job to find *some* way to get yourself on every social media platform prompting your work 24/7. Now the advice is forget social media and put all your focus on what it is you write about and having a consistent content strategy so that you show up when people search for what it is you provide. To answer your question about what drew me to the channel, for me it was your tutorials. As I was learning to sew you were one of the people who really knew how to break down the details, be it the steps of making things or what exactly different feet on the sewing machine do. For a beginner that was invaluable because there's so much assumed knowledge in this hobby so it's rare to find people who understand what needs to be explained. Regardless of whether or not I made the actual project, there was always a nugget of something that would be useful to learn about. I do like the industry updates so I'm glad to hear those aren't going away, even if they'll be on the other channel. I am one of those who doesn't watch livestreams of anybody because those require being there when the stream happens for the most bang for your buck. For me if I'm not there to see the questions being asked or ask a question myself it can be hard to follow along after the fact, so I tend not to try. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't do them, I'm only offering it as information for why I'm one of those people who likes your other vids but doesn't watch livestreams as much. It's exciting to be here for the next chapter of the channel and looking forward to seeing what you do with it!
I've watched your videos for years, but only recently subscribed. I started watching because of your clear, concise reviews. I really appreciate your to-the-point, no nonsense approach. I like reviews and how to videos. Good luck with whatever you decide. (I'm a 71 yo retired RN (hence no nonsense, get to the point outlook. I don't watch live streams as I don't like being tied to the TV for a certain time. Retired, don't do schedules anymore😊)
I am a much smaller channel but can relate a lot to the things your saying. It takes a LOT to be a content creator and it can be financially really difficult to choose this path. Unfortunately it is a lot about strategy and we have to keep evolving and learning by making all the mistakes in the book. But most importantly not getting discouraged, i think you do a great job with that. Good luck with your channel!
I just found your channel today and watch the drawstring bag tutorial and it was amazing! I would love detailed beginner tutorials. I will be going back to look for other projects to make from your videos. Thank you!
Hi Jen. I subscribed to your channel for one reason: to view videos that help to inspire and encourage me in crafting, especially sewing. You were one of the first sewing channels I began watching. Unknowingly, I have not been watching your videos as diligently as I used to. I am one of those who sometimes watch live stream but only if the creator has completely hooked me in to the main content of the channel. I enjoy the videos that have you creating, whether it's sewing clothes, bags, or making pins and other gifts. I don't mind the variety in crafts. However, I am much more likely to watch a how-to or why-do crafting or sewing video than a livestream about finance or the business of UA-cam. Maybe others enjoy that content, but not so much my cup of tea. I am excited to see what direction you take this channel. I have no intention of canceling my subscription. I'll subscribe to the Sewing Report Live channel and will likely enjoy much of the videos. However, my first "love" will be the original Sewing Report channel...although I also enjoy your Jen Talks channel. Your videos on skin care were life changing for me since I suffer from similar issues as you in a similar climate. Thank you for all you do and also for your honesty. I'm back and I'm happy to be so!
Appreciate this! If you have oily/acne prone skin I have recently discovered Youth to the People Kombucha + 10% AHA Power Exfoliant. It's kind of pricey ($38) but YTTP has occasional sitewide sales. It's improved my skin texture and cut down on my breakouts dramatically. Worth a shot if you are frustrated with skin issues. And... literally today my husband is installing a water softener!!!!
@@SewingReport Thanks Jen!😃I'll checkout YTTP. I've seen other UA-camrs list that brand as a real winner! Yes, $38 is a lot, but I know with exfoliants, we use only a tiny dollop so it will probably be great value in the end. Yay for softer water! 👍
I'll be honest, I probably use too much lol! YTTP has had several 25% off sales, so watch out for those. I guess it's also not as bad if we look at it from the perspective that it's at least not a prescription treatment requiring a dermatologist office bill? I wouldn't say my acne is completely wiped out, but it seems around 80% reduced for me.
I really like your channel. Your tutorials on how to make different sewing and quilting items are really good. You make it look easy enough to try. I liked the live ones when you reported on changes in the sewing, etc. industry. I love to see when you show new fabrics, or sewing notions, etc. I watch to learn, which you do well when you show techniques
I like sewing/embroidery machine reviews and tutorials. Also like vlog style where you can showcase working on a sewing project. Have neen a subscriber for a long time and one reason I watch every video is because of the quality of your work. Always good sound and lighting. Your professionalism is appreciated.
I totally enjoy your feedback when you are introducing new items and comparisons..It helps sometimes with my decisions of buying something new, when I have enough , and need to take the time to learn the new things I am not familiar with. Live streams are a super plus! If you are introducing crafts, sewing items, this makes a big impact on working along with you on the lives. It also helps me personally to engage in pulling this new sewing machine or cutting machine, out of the stash and enjoy what I already have. Thanks, Jennifer for this feedback today. Very informative and I love your channel. Blessings! You can do this!
Good for you for reaching out to a consultant. I can imagine how difficult that was to hear. It sounds like it was a relief in a way, to have new insight. Thanks for a very honest video. Can't wait to see what's next!
I really enjoy your lives. I love your product reviews. I really enjoy the videos that feel like a sewing news show. The ones I skip are the beginner tutorials. Interesting what you said about the algorithm. It dawned on me that I hadn't seen a video from you lately. So I clicked over to the channel and saw that I missed a few that I would not have skipped. I double checked my subscription status. Yep.. I'm still subscribed with all notifications turned on. Stupid UA-cam. Funny thing is my grand daughter used my phone to watch one video about slime and I was recommended slime videos for a week. I had to keep clicking that I was not interested to finally get rid of the 25 different slime channels it was recommending to me. I'm psyched about your new live channel.
I just actually found you! What I’m mostly interested in is 1. learning about different types of fabric and what would be best to make with different fabrics. 2. I love pattern reviews and SEW ALONGS!:) That’s mostly what I’m looking for. Thank you for asking!😊
I really like the way you are being true about the live scream and focus on one context at a time. Because you're right I haven't been getting any context from your UA-cam videos anymore. I do like some of the videos on quilting and sewing from you not from other UA-cam. Thank you
I subscribed for beginner tutorials about sewing and basic machine use. Not Juki machines and embroidery, so that is why I haven’t really watched. I enjoyed the craftsy info and your Etsy shop stuff...I enjoyed your weather updates during the hurricane because I was worried for you and my other channels!! I would love basic sewing tutorials for “dummies”. You are the best host! I subscribed to the live channel and look forward to you on my feed!!!
Seeing this later but here's my thoughts- I do enjoy the journalist side of your channel, it's great to have you do the leg work and it's appreciated. - lives- not typically a fan due to the meandering that usually comes with that format, although there are live channels that I do enjoy and realize that those have 2 folks working, 1 in front of the camera and another scouting the comments and fielding the questions so I don't have to devide my attention between you and the audience, and a lot of time they are directing comments to each other, or they go off topic and things drag out. - you've got a great personality and sensibility, you've got this girl.
Just so you know I also don’t enjoy livestream, I love the presenter talking to me. I look for a topic that looks interestingly. My personal style is no tic tic type stuff, but solid info. Keep growing, stay real.
I know you have to do what is best for your entire objective, but it is a shame to have to change the way you are/have been because I watch your channel to watch you. I have really enjoyed and been enlightened by your videos--sewing lessons, product demonstrations, industry information, etc. I will continue to watch you but I am sorry you are having to change due to platform constraints. Thank you for all you do😃!!
I started watching from your craft room organisation and quilting videos. A lot of the other crafts don't appeal to me personally but some of your videos eg machine reviews have been of interest. As a quilter I am mainly looking for quilt related videos, patterns, fabrics, notions, projects.
I love your contents, and im glad you explained how youtube works, because i always wonder why i dont get notifications on the youtubers i follow. Great idea to have two chanels. One for sewing, and one for informative information, which i think would be great. Your background will surely help with the new chanel. I for one like live streaming videos depending on the content. Thank you for sharing. From your loyal follower, much love, and success! You got this!
Wow…your consultant gave you the same advice I would’ve have given. I don’t have time to watch videos over 30 minutes long so I didn’t watch your lives. I also felt like your content was all over the map. You were great with the simple sewing videos that I could refer newbies to. I thought your embroidery videos were good because I learned a lot from them. So I look forward to seeing the direction of your channel. I has to be difficult to constantly crank out videos, but I hope your passion will focus you on what the channel should be. Will be watching!
Hello! New to your channel! I found it when searching for a tutorial on vinyl bags… and bonus you had a free pattern to follow along with!!! Love this kind of content 😊, and I enjoy how you explain everything throughout the tutorials! Please keep this kind of content on your channel 🙏🏽❤️
I enjoy live streams but I can catch them when they are on. Either I am not notified or they happen when I can't watch it live. But I always make sure to catch it later. But I really enjoy the news happening in the sewing world which is what your live streams seem to be.
Hey Jen, I too don't watch to many live streams. I like when you do sewing content and even embroidery content even though I don't have an embroidery machine yet. Maybe do more sewing tutorials where you do, lets say a Simplicity pattern of a shirt or something like that. I've been subscribed for awhile now and I appreciate all the work you do. And I may check out your live and see how it goes. Good luck with your live and hope you get lots and lots of subscribers.
I think the advice your guy gave you is definitely good advice. I don't watch live streams often. This may be why I haven't been recommended your videos lately. I prefer your sewing videos but it would be nice to see an occasional video of some other type of craft or tool reviews. Maybe once a month have a different type of video.
If it helps, I subscribed to your channel for your tutorials, unbiased product reviews and comparisons, and unbiased sewing/craft community news. I’ve actually enjoyed and appreciated your behind the scenes critiques and rants about the business (sewing, craft, and you tube), but it’s not what interests me overall. I’ve learned a lot from you. Thank you. But I agree that if your interests are many, then you should diversify channels rather than put it all on one channel. 🎉
I 💗 Sewing Report and your Etsy shop, Jen. I’m happy you’ll continue to do live streams. My only difficulty with watching live is I don’t see that it’s live till hours later most times. Will you be scheduling the live events?
Hi Jen. I love your content and think you are very professional. I am an experienced quilter and sewer in my 60’s. I would agree though that the channel could benefit from a more narrow focus although having said that, I did enjoy your comments on the industry and different reviews. I think the issue is people need to know what to expect when they tune in to a channel since time is limited for a lot of people.
Hi Jen! Do what is fun for you. I've been a subscriber here for a while, always give thumbs up but don't always comment. I will check out your new channel! I guess I was in the other category who enjoys LiveStreams.
I am a quilter, but I like to make simple pouches/bags, etc. as well ....just made your little boxy pouch which was fun. I watch a lot of quilting and simple bag making videos but as much as I love the channels, I never watch livestreams while they are happening, I will watch some later. They always sound like a lot of fun, but they seem to be on when I am working or wanting to sew. I enjoy the way you teach.
I really enjoy your product and machine reviews. I have often bought products based on your reviews. They are so helpful! I also love your transparency!!
I found you while waiting for my Brother PE800 to arrive this year,Jan2023. I have been sewing since I was 6 years old (personal use, professionally) currently I’ve been making plush dolls for a few years, but after having problems with hand embroidering doll faces I was told I have MS. I had to look for a solution soI could continue doing what I enjoy. Your videos on the PE800 made it a snap to learn how to use my new machine and get back to doll faces. I needed some faces digitized so I even went to the Etsy seller you suggested in one if your videos, to get going again with my dolls. I’m loving this new journey and am even learning to digitize my face designs (using Inkscape/ink stitch, love that it’s free!!!) I am subscribed and will continue to watch (I do hope you will still make some videos with the pe800) my Daughter wants me to start making Kpop/Kdrama patches to go with the dolls I’ve made her. So many options with this machine! Thank you for your videos!!!
Great video... those of us that are just viewers probably had no idea how people make money on the various platforms. I agree about the live videos. I love the great tutorials that teach me something. That is how I found your channel.
Some suggestions: I watch YT on a TV, so when you say "link in description", that doesn't work for me - I have to go to my phone or computer to click the link. But, if at the end of the video, when you can add links to other videos, you CAN add a link to your new channel. And good organization of your library is important for ppl to find videos in the realm of what they want to see. And third, I do like the idea of trimming your live streams - I watch a channel (religiously) that has a 2hr+ live stream once a week. They take their stream and divide it by subject matter, and make 4-5 smaller videos on another channel. (They have 3 channels and then each host has a personal channel, so 5 total). Oddly, their original/main channel (a travel channel) has 1M+ viewers. Their 2nd channel (live stream) has 100K+, the 3rd (live stream chunks) has 60K and their individual ones are over 100K.
Just discovered your channel and I love it, I am going to browse and watch a lot of your videos. Just wanted to say, don’t be too hard on yourself as the you tube algorithm might as well play a big role in your potential views… I believe that nowadays we viewers are subscribed to so many channels that we don’t see half the new content that are created… I have some channels that I really like and I need to lookup for them even being a subscriber, their new contents do not appear on my page if I was looking up other type of craft, health or news, anything really…there is a mathematical problem… too much suscriptions make our experience more blurry… not because of you 😊
Jen, I’ve been one of your subscribers for a while now. At the beginning I used to watch your vids quite a bit, like I did many others, but I’ve taken a break from watching you tube as I was getting burnt out watching videos which eventually all seemed to be the same. I would watch channels while I cooked, worked, sewed, etc. eventually I just got tired of seeing fabric hauls, “sewing plans” “makes”, pattern hauls, etc. though I have nothing against hauls, I was yearning to see these people do SOMETHING, show SOMETHING completed with the fabrics, patters, cross stitch charts, etc. I have always been picky on subscribing, and have never subscribed “just because”as I don’t want to “just subscribe “… I subscribe if I feel the channel will keep me entertained with information, are they bringing something different than other channels, etc. My Pete peeve is when creators start their video with “hit the subscribe button”. They don’t even give me time to watch their video first, and let me see what they offer. Many times, as soon as I hear this statement as their opening I change right away. Right now the Cross stitch, sewing world is being inundated with new channels and none of the most recent channels bring ANYTHING new. What I’ve liked about your channel is your honesty and you are informative. I have never, and will not watch “live” videos. To me they are a waste of time, the live does not contribute anything exciting, I find them annoying. There’s a you tube contributor that is 100% live, granted that’s how they gain business because they’re Etsy sellers, but let me tell you when you have four people in a live, it is not fun. I’ve tried watching their lives, but I find the foursome too crowded, jamming too much info, greeting people, etc..just too annoying for me. Needless to say I don’t subscribe to their channel.
Hey Jen, I am scrolling through your videos, and was trying to find one for using the Brother 1034DX serger. I sure could you some tips on this. Received during Christmas and it is out of box covered, ready to go...Thank you again
I like you and your channel, that said, I don't watch live streams very often. I don't want to be entertained, I want to be informed. On point, clear. Personality wise, you are great. Smart and modern.
Maybe a recurring schedule for different types of sewing content. Subjects could be bee pattern releases, free patterns, seasonal color trends, sew alongs, Tips and Tricks, etc.
I signed up because you have the best videos for Embroidery machines and sewing. I eventually want to try quilting once I get good with my sewing machine. I don't think you should stop live streaming. If you open a separate channel for let say quilting then, your lives should relate to the topic of your channel.
I generally don’t watch live streams, but I may watch after-the-fact. Originally, I subscribed to learn more about machine sewing, and how to incorporate machine embroidery into projects. The key, for me anyway, is instruction over chit chat. I want to learn; however, I love the idea of two different channels! You’re very knowledgeable and clearly love helping others learn. Keep going, it will all work out! 😊
Thank you! That's exactly it - this main channel will have just edited videos without filler or chitchat, but the live channel will be more casual and less formatted. At least then you can choose which viewing experiences are right for you.
Hi Jen. Fellow sewing channel here ❤ I watch most of your videos and like your informative journalistic approach to your tutorials. As I aim to be where you are one day I do keep track of your stats at times in vidIQ and I will admit I was wondering why your channel was struggling for views (in comparison to your subs) when your tutorials are so good and such high quality! The live aspect makes sense. And I think clipping those videos and sharing them on this channel in a more informative fast speed way would be great!!!! If you ever want to chat sewing and UA-cam feel free to reach out. I love to chat about UA-cam and the sewing world! You have some GREAT anchor videos and I wonder if you need to work on adding a few more of the search based videos back into your rotation. Or even make a shorter version craftsy video but make it a “review” video. This way your journalistic approach is valued but you are found in search because you aimed for review key words? Just a thought. Love what you do! Don’t ignore that journalistic aspect. I think that’s your “special sauce”. ❤
Yes, this is for real. TLDR: Unknowingly, I have been slowly destroying this UA-cam channel and need to make drastic changes to save it. While we did recently cross the 100,000 subscriber milestone, viewership has been struggling for some time and I couldn't figure out why. I enlisted the help of a longtime UA-cam employee who worked in Content Strategy, and he immediately pinpointed a few major issues:
1) Live stream format is driving away previous viewers
2) Content / format is all over the place, lacking cohesiveness and consistency
3) Too much time spent on other platforms (ie: website, Patreon, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook) with little return on investment
I absolutely love my life as a full-time content creator, but realize that the Sewing Report needs to grow at a much faster pace than it currently is in order for this to be sustainable.
Moving forward, *all* live streams will be on a new channel Sewing Report LIVE 🧵 this will be a more casual, chatty format to sew + create in real time, chat, have fun, get industry reports + interviews!
www.youtube.com/@sewingreportlive
THANK YOU for watching and supporting over the years! I would love for you to share what type of videos you enjoy the most here, and looking forward to having a fantastic 2023!
Mi
I subscribed to your live stream channel.
You and I are in the same boat, you're going to do great.
@@pinkmacprincess This seems to be happening to quite a few channels honestly...
I never ever watch live streams for any channels as they just seem less professional and more all over the place.
Thank you for the encouragement!
(Still do)
If you share your know-how and experience in sewing in general, it would be a great help to me.
Wish you all the luck in the world!
I have been with you since the beginning. I really enjoy seeing you grow in sewing and reviews on the different products.
“Whatever you’re doing, make it fun!” If you like doing lives i think it will show! You got this!
It also helped me the Chinese stick,
I hope this comment result helpful for what are you looking for!
The first video I ever saw, which was a review of your favorite sewing machine, I was like "NEWS CASTER? what an awesome voice!!"
You have a subscriber from me.
Thanks!
Awesome! Thank you!
@@SewingReport Thanks Jen! I'll look out for the sales! ☺
I'm really big into sewing tutorials (clothes in particular), but enjoy all sew-a-longs crafty ideas 💡
Thanks for sharing this😊
I really like your channel.
Star you have been watching and commenting for years!!! I definitely notice and greatly appreciate you being a part of the community here!
Love your comparing sewing and serger machines in different price range and how they work. Thanks so much!
Good for you for reaching out to a consultant. I can imagine how difficult that was to hear. It sounds like it was a relief in a way, to have new insight. Thanks for a very honest video. Can't wait to see what's next!
It was! To finally know what the root cause of the issues is and how I can fix it!
I love everything you do. In general, I don’t watch live stream as the quality isn’t the same. Keep doing you xxx
I love your lives so I’m glad you are going to keep doing them. Im all subscribed to the new channel. 💕
Thanks so much Jamie! You're one of the biggest supporters here!!!
I just actually found you! What I’m mostly interested in is
1. learning about different types of fabric and what would be best to make with different fabrics.
2. I love pattern reviews and SEW ALONGS!:)
That’s mostly what I’m looking for.
Thank you for asking!😊
Jen, I don’t watch livestream….I watch all your other UA-cam at my leisure…I’m sticking by you on whatever you decide 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Hi! I found your channel when I was looking for info on embroidery machines. I love your honesty and thoroughness.
That is why you are so organized when speaking.. you have always look so professional ....congratulations on your success...
Seeing this later but here's my thoughts-
I do enjoy the journalist side of your channel, it's great to have you do the leg work and it's appreciated.
You are definitely not alone, all livestreams will be on the new Sewing Report Live channel moving forward!
I love live streams (as long as people are talking) as well as all your topics! Thank you for your channel!
I'm here for the embroidery tips and ideas. I'm new and your videos have been helpful.
I enjoy watching your sewing/quilting videos but I also really like your videos talking about why or why not you use items related to crafting.
I mostly watch your videos about machine embroidery, they’ve really helped me a lot. I like sewing a bit too.
I'd like to come up with a regular schedule for live streams, and if there's a spontaneous one - still schedule a few hours ahead of time.
I enjoy your videos! I like the product reviews and sewing tutorials and will keep watching! Pittsburgh, PA USA
I really enjoy your product and machine reviews. I have often bought products based on your reviews. They are so helpful! I also love your transparency!!
Awesome! Thank you!
Hi, Jen! I'm glad you are keeping the Livestream. Will you have a regular schedule for streaming?
I personally love your channel, Watching your videos is like sitting with a friend and learning from her. 💗
I like the interview with the embroidery digitization expert. Definitely something I’ll watch again.
So glad to hear the videos have been helpful to you! I love this!!!
Great video... those of us that are just viewers probably had no idea how people make money on the various platforms. I agree about the live videos. I love the great tutorials that teach me something. That is how I found your channel.
I love live videos and I love your channel. Looking forward to your lives.
I started watching your channel for sewing tutorials. I enjoy Oklaroots and Siahswag online tutorials.
Hey Jen, I am scrolling through your videos, and was trying to find one for using the Brother 1034DX serger. I sure could you some tips on this. Received during Christmas and it is out of box covered, ready to go...Thank you again
It's fantastic but also painful to get real with yourself. Kuddos to you and sending you love.
I am a smaller channel in a sister niche, but I have also been trying to figure out how to grow. This has been very helpful, thank you.
Regarding the main channel. I enjoy garment sewing tutorials. It would be fun to have tutorials for Simplicity or McCall's "Learn to Sew" patterns.
