      if it were that "easy" then i'd submit you're probably right. as it is though, i rather doubt DG used/ uses a 'Sophia 2:22 Pro CSE' trem system (just a guess though). but Darrell does make some lovely noise - no doubt about that ;-)

    Hi Darrell, thank you so much for showing us this vibrato system! I had seen the other version on some guitars but didn't know about the stabiliser features - they look awesome and really great, useful additions to a floating bridge! Same kind of price range as Hipshot or high end Gotoh which I didn't expect - I thought it would be more. I'll be checking these out. Thanks man and have an amazing day 😊

    It looks very nicely made to the point of being eyewateringly expensive. The integrated stabilizer system might be less awkward than the tremsetter/tremol-no type devices and the thumbwheel will undoubtedly be faster than adjusting the claw screws. Personally I prefer fully floating over a stabilised type.
    You can spend a lot less money to get a decent floating action though. The Wilkinson two pivot bridges work very well, and paired with decent locking tuners you can really abuse the whammy bar and not lose tuning. The gotoh two points are a bit better, but the price thereabouts doubles. I'm gonna guess that the system in the video is more than double the price of a gotoh, it's complex and very nicely machined.
    There is a case for using a stabilised trem live even if you'd normally use a floating trem though, as I've always had a hardtail or blocked trem guitar available for songs where I don't want the trem to flutter or need to play union bends. This usually means I play a hardtail (or blocked/screwed down tight teen) most of the time and reach for the stunt guitar when it's my turn to show off. If you set a stabilised system up in a way that's right for you, it's possible to play a very varied set on just the one guitar. This is particularly useful if you're on a small stage with no room for a rack of guitars, or shoehorned into an orchestra pit for musical theatre.

    Hi Darrel, no doubt the Sophia aftermarket trem is really good. The price for it and other after market trem tested and shown in your channel are quite steep though. Since not everyone is from the USA or other countries with strong currency, how about you make a video on 'budget' aftermarket trems which are really good for their price, just like guitars comparison.

    • @SeemsLikeSomething
      @SeemsLikeSomething 5 років тому +1

      It looks like there might be an adjustment hole at the end of each string on the top-backside of the trem. Maybe a screw driver or hex key adjusts that. He definitely set it cuz each saddle is shifted into a slightly different position.

    • @jameshill2015
      @jameshill2015 5 років тому

      Yes Darrel..PLEASE fill us in...I am not sure but Im guessing that it is adjusted from the neck side of the saddle..it does not appear that it could be done from the back being to string thimbles are in the way..

    • @SeemsLikeSomething
      @SeemsLikeSomething 5 років тому

      James Hill
      Ok after watching the closeup video again, it would seem there’s a hex screw hole on the underside of each saddle. I’m 99% that works as a lock. So you loosen that, slide the saddle back or forward and then lock it back down. Weird because I’m guessing you’d need to use the provided hex key and actually access those through the back of the guitar. So the key would be parallel with the trem block and need to be lengthwise. This appears to be the only way. There’s a tiny chance that the backside of each saddle where that opening is might be where the key goes but it doesn’t LOOK like it should.

    • @jameshill2015
      @jameshill2015 5 років тому

      @@SeemsLikeSomething "Slide??" thats highly unlikely.. There has to be a screw type adjustment somewhere.. Im guessing its on top side facing the pickups. A lil odd looking for my taste but hey..if it works?? Then thats what really matters. I use Babicz and LOVE the saddles. I dont use Babicz base plate and block..just the saddles.. They are Brilliant. Saddle is flat to base plate rather than sitting on 2 lil adjustment screws.. Incredible resonance can be felt in the entire guitar when you pluck a note.. The cam rotating saddle and locking set screws are perfect. Check them out!

    • @SeemsLikeSomething
      @SeemsLikeSomething 5 років тому +1

      James Hill
      Whether it slides forward and backward and locks down via screw or moves in that direction along the thread of a screw makes absolutely no difference so long as something is stopping it from doing so on its own.

  • @valuedhumanoid6574

    I found a Strat replacement bridge that is the best invention since...IDK...the humbucker? lol It's called the Blade Runner by Super V. I replaced the neanderthal six bolt POS that Fender installed with this thing and it almost doubled my sustain, notes are clear and ring out like crazy, rock solid tuning...you should really take a look if you haven't already. It will make your MIM Strat as good as a USA built.

    You should check out the trem from Wudtone. Fat cold rolled steel (or brass if you want) block. The arm is stainless steel and there's no wiggle thanks to the nylon bushing in the block. Fitted it to my early 90s American Standard a few years ago and it doesn't go out of tune and still no wiggle.

      Good question. The FR is more for the player who wants a lot of sustain like a fixed bridge, but also wants to use the trem from time to time.
      The Sophia is for the heavy trem user. Less sustain, but very high-tech features.

    Are the lockdown screws under the string anchors? Do you have to remove the strings each time you need to adjust?

    The strat trem's primary stability issue has always been binding and sawing in the nut. While the counter tensioning design of this is very impressive, I'm still inclined to think the two point + roller nut + locking tuners (ala 90's strat plus) would provide more stability than this used in conjunction with a traditional nut. But ultimately, if I were to ever reincorporate more than the minimal tremolo use a traditional strat affords, I think I'd return to the absolute stability of a locking nut sys.

  • @arthurdoctolero8813

    Sophia trems match well with the ‘90s LSR tuners appearance-wise… if they’re still in production.

  • @dappawap
    @dappawap 5 років тому

    I have a collectable MIJ strat si I will never mod it. But any other Strat I sure would. I floated my vintage 6 point system like you showed on another video and it stays in tune better than when I had it touching the body and it is easier to push down. But bending it is a bit weird when the bridge moves forward, increasing the action and dumping the tuning. I would definately buy this bridge before replacing pickups...something a lot of Strat owners seem to do....which kind of defeats the purpose...

  • @brianstanley572

    Can someone explain how this keeps double stop bends in tune? I'm not quite understanding how that's achieved. I don't see how those little stabilizers stop other other strings from going out of tune when bending.... When you bend a string on a floating bridge, the bridge lifts further off the body like when pushing down slightly on the bar. How do the stabilizers prevent that from happening? I would understand if the stabilizers were on the opposite side of the trem.

    • @henkehakansson2004
      @henkehakansson2004 4 роки тому

      good point! very good point. Also a demonstration of the "master tuning wheel" which means you either have to leave the back plate removed and leave it open at all times. That one still beats me. You have to remove the back plate in order to readjust the tuning with the wheel? Or what? Seems unneccessary complicated.
      And if the stabilizers works for this (if it's them that bucks the other strings from going sharp when a string snaps or bends) it must be just calibrated to work with one or two gauges of string size. It can't be the same for a 008 set or a SRV buff with 013 set on. Not without any calibration done first, somewhere.

    Pretty cool. I don't use a tremolo but remember when I had a Strat Ultra ack in the 90's. Adding a trem setter was the very first mod that I actually purchased with the guitar. Too bad Fender stopped making it and too bad they stopped using Lace Sensors. The Ultra was by far the best Strat they ever built. I mostly bought it for the curly maple top and ebony fingerboard. Now I only play Music Man Silhouettes. I have several versions. Better than any Fender or Gibson. Ido have a Mexican Strat HSS that I "fixed" so it would play. It has a dive only trem. Like I said I rarely use a trem even though I have an older Silhouette with 3 single coil pickups and a vintage trem. I keep a hard tail sitting next to my living room chair. I play every day. Not constantly but usually between dawn and midnight it totals 4 hours.

    I didn't have a chance to watch every second of the video. Does the back cover go back on?

    I’m liking the look of it, but how do you set the intonation and saddle height???

    Darrell Braun, I don't think you mention it. But will this fit in a Bullet Strat?

    Do you have to adjust the spring tension to match string tension? ( i.e heavier or lighter strings) Or do the pistons in the block account for that? You didn’t really discuss it in the video.

    This is the same trem it came with. The friction points are the same. It’s just shiny and new.

    great stuff Darrell, hey did you have to cut the back plate so the tuning wheel would poke through?

      Hi!
      No, if you set the trem hight right it lines up just right :)

    Would replace the silver tip for a white one of the same structure to fit the strays style. Like it’s shape just not
    Color

    Why does the tremolo system have those hole/windows that show the string ball. Only aesthetically up close is this an issue... but otherwise looks great.

    Do you feel you get enough down pressure on the saddles, with the rear loaded version?

    So, really, how much improvement is this over the stock trem? It's got that thumbwheel, which is a little cool, though I notice you don't show the backplate reinstalled, so I'm guessing you have to customize the backplate to access the wheel. Other than that and looking cool, what does $250 really get you that you don't already have?
