how easy was it to get the tension and the intonation etc on the 6 springs setup? as you say, amazing simple idea
@@doctorscoot Intonation was easy as there is a ton of room for adjustment. As for the tension on the springs, I wasn't sure what would work best, so i just made them as similar as I could :) Need to do some more experimentation for the perfect feel!
Have you ever considered reviewing the Stetsbar trem?
What a great idea. Does it also fit for a sire larry carlton telecaster t7awh?
All this needs is a bar extension, internally threaded like the existing knob on the bar.
Really cool to see hardware manufacturers getting creative to find technical solutions. Most guitar brands are stucked in the 70s for so long now. I hope they will get as creative for headless tremolos and locking nuts, which are left aside for too long. Ergonomic and light guitars are the future, wether we like it or not. But this one is really clever, like their Strat system. Well done guys and thanks for the review.
I agree! great video, great review, and i love seeing new and innovative ideas coming to fruition. There's some cool ideas out there in the area of pickups, too :]
One more "I should have thought of that first." moment yet again. Very admirable solution indeed.
I was hoping you’d do a video on this! Any chance we could get a part 2 maybe about maintenance or something? There’s very little info out there about this system
Darrell, When removing the ferrules, if they are really tight, they can chip off the finish when you knock them out. It is advisable to use a collar around the ferrules to prevent finish chipping.
His guitar suffered chipping
Not sure why it wasn't mentioned unless he really didn't notice it.
@@N-DtoF I didn’t look very closely at the video.
Where can you get them?
@@JohnFlaky-jm7dd you can use a fitting washer and it should be enough.
You can also score the perimeter of the ferrule with a sharp blade and that should be enough.
@@N-DtoF I was wondering the same thing. There's clearly a chip of paint missing after he installs everything and flips it around... After seeing how well played in the neck is I came to the conclusion that either he didn't notice or doesn't much care.
I would like to know directly from Darrell though. 🤔
That's very cool and so simple and elegant. I mean, who'da thought to use the string holes for the trem springs! Thanks for showing this!
Man turns your regular tele into a Cadillac. Great video I loved it you showed me something I never new existed.
Very clever mechanism, looks great too
Vega Trem, hecho en España. 🇪🇸
Damn! What a clever design!
Edit:
After looking further into it, it looks like they've changed the design a bit to avoid the need to drill two new holes into the body. Their website still shows only the old design.
The thing is, they advertise the old design as requiring no permanent changes while absolutely requiring drilling 2 new holes into the body.
Here are their statements from their website:
1. "Installing a VT2 Teletrem, unlike other options on the market, deeply respect the body of your beloved guitar without the need of making any permanent changes.
2. "Installing a VT2 just needs a screwdriver and following a few simple steps that you will find in the assembly instructions section".
Not a word about drilling. They mention drilling only on the instruction video.
I find it a bit dishonest.
Though I'm glad they, apparently, improved the design to avoid the drilling.
Thought it was something worth noting.
As Dave mentioned, that's not a Fender body. So it took some hole opening up! No big. IMHO the design and materials create a very clear, stable and intonation tight system. Thanks for your comment!
@@timothyvaher2421
You mean Darrell?
I didn't refer to the drilling he did here. I referred to the drilling needed to install the bridge in the old design. The bridge in this video is the new no-drill design.
Which would have been nice if he mentioned that, actually.
Dave’s not here
@@KCCheez My license? Isn't it on the back of the car??
3 bills? No thanks
Thanks for consistently showing us new and cool guitar stuff! I've been wanting to put a twang bar on my partscaster tele. This might be the one!
I love how you jumped right into it. I'm so tired of long-winded intros and articles! Thank you
This is brilliant design and it looks great!
Thanks for the review
My hat off to Vega-trem, that's a truly clever design
How neat is that? Looks beautifully engineered. Great video, thank you.
Been waiting for a video on this from you!
Very cool setup Darrell. God bless you.
A very cool product and you did an excellent "Demo" of it!
That is very high quality Craftsmanship.....that company is on top of the game....
I'm a new subscriber, your videos are awesome, I've learned alot from watching some of your older posts.
7:02 Ouch, that's a nice finish chip when hammering the ferrules out.
Score gently around the ferrule with an X-Acto or similar scalpel-type knife before removing. That should break any bond between the finish and the ferrule.
That's an outstanding trem for a T Style guitar. I see one in my future... Thanks, as always, for the informative content...
The really big VT branding really isn’t my taste, but I love how this trem works
Awesome as always! Thanks for sharing... More mods and Ziploc bags in my future 😂
Dude, one of the VERY FIRST Utube videos I ever saw was you, Darrell Braun doing the Vega Trem video.
I know, it was only 5 years ago - and yes, I did live "under a rock" for nearly 20 years!
(I had a debilitating alcohol substance abuse - addiction, and, it tool me 15 years of going through the revolving doors of detox → rehab → retox → de-hab ! before I got sick of banging my head against that same same wall - and finally stayed clean & sober.
So yeah, 5 odd years ago, I got an iphone...and we finally got decent WiFi down here in Australia ..and I started watching utube - for the very first time!
And it went approximately like this:
Start : "Strat or Tele??" videos
(Oh, yeah, I had sold my gear 18 years in addiction, and even when I got periods of clean time - I found that so painful to think of, I just convinced myself I don't want to be a guitar player any more.
(I had played for 8 years before that - 12-20)
So anyway, cut it short...I was weighing up which guitar to buy to get back into in.
Funnily enough, a Strat and a Tele were the only guitars i had ever owned.
So, the S Va T videos - of which there are many , andvone of yours, I believe...??
Anyway i watched someoned Verse off....then I saw your video on the Ibanez...the RG Vs the S.
Like everyone else, I was immediately smitten with the golden, quilt top Saber you had! It was the first I'd seen one, and i went off to discover them.
I ended up on Nita Strauss' Jiva. And, iyf course, I fell in immediate love - and the guitar's not bad , either..! 😁
No, seriously, I got hooked on the idea of an Ibanez S. The Jivva was certainly (and still is) a top runner.
I very neaely bought the iron label 6SiXFdfm model, if anyone remembers...but I had missed it by the time went ti pull the trigger!🤦♂️ CRUSHED!!😭😭😫😩😭
Next, your Vega Trem video absolutely sold me, should I ever wish to upgrade a strat bridge in the future.
It looks so high quality and solid.
Anyway, now Ive told you that, and.... Imma go,😕 -----👉 now ...
It took me half an hour of my life to type...and will likely get few, if any likes, or even reads!
But if Darrell actually reads it - then... that'll be cool!
I really do have a sense of nostalgia, for only 5 or so Years ago...strange, I know!
Good for you being Sober. And picking guitar back up again.Playing guitar helps me keep my sanity..25 yrs.sober for me.Couldn't imagine ever going back.I like reading the Comments section as much as I do watching the videos..Best Regards...💯👍
I read it! It’s never a waste of time. I “waste my time” writing long comments too. Sometimes trolls reply about my novel (I ignore). Other times, you meet some nice people who also love guitar and can relate with what you have to say.
I’d love to recommend the @ThreeChordDave UA-cam channel to you. Amazing group of people, especially during the live stream (Dave goes live 10PM Irish time on Saturdays - he’s Irish, but we have people from all over the world. I’m in NYC). I know there’s a few people who sobered up after a rough time. Some of us also have health challenges. And all of us are a bit nutty, lol. You would be very welcomed. We all always laugh and have a great time talking about guitars, music, and other nonsense - and poking fun at Dave a bit. Even if you can’t come to the live streams, Dave releases really great videos besides.
Best wishes to you! Way to find your way back to guitar and find success with self-improvement! - Marsha
A man takes a drink, a drink takes a drink, a drink takes a man. Good work kicking the booze.
Great review Darrell.....as always.....😊
VERY COOL VIDEO, THANKS DARRYL :)
Very cool looking trem! Nice video. Greetings from Colombia 🇨🇴
That is an extremely slick and thoughtful bit of engineering.
I'm moving to Thailand and noticed a interesting brand called Gusta, they have a model called GST-05. Would be great to see you reviewing that. BTW, I'm from Brazil and we have some great models from Tagima and Seizi, just another ideas to review as well :)
That's super cool. I never liked a Bigsby, they're clunky. I need to look into this. Thanks Darrell
Genius! Vega Trem made genius stuff
I had a similar idea like this to use the string holes for trem springs, but never really try to make it. I'm glad someone had a similar idea and make this neat trem system. It's worth a try. 👌
The Hellecasters made me fall in love with the sound of a Tele with trem. This trem looks and sounds great!
Engineering excellence hardtail to vibrato and back with a clean look and no modifying luv it.
That was really awesome. Great idea and design. I think you're right about an extended arm
What a great idea.
Thanks for sharing.
Really cool! Thanks!!
The "VT" applique on the bar ,,,,,,
GOTTA GO
What an amazing innovation.
Things actually pretty sweet man
This is perfect for my Jazzcaster /Offset Tele, just perfect!
I love the design on this trem system. Finally my tele can have a trem.
Wow that is a very cool system!
looks neat !
absolutely genius!
Cool trem, and a great idea
GFS pickups very nice
Good eye! Great pups for the price
@@DarrellBraunGuitar they’re pretty much all I buy for the price. In the states two pups cost the same as one top name brand.
Damn! I thought I loved the vegatrem you put on the Pacifica, but this is an excellent solution for tele bodies!!
What a clever design.
I understood how it worked as soon as you said it was going in a Tele, that is a simple yet genius idea
Impressive, helpful. May go with one on the Tele eventually.
Enjoyed this!! Im 33 years old, but when i grow up i wanna be as happy as darrel!!! 😊
Brilliant design. One of those rare 'able to go back to stock but too good to want to go back anyway' designs.
Pretty cool invention - reminds me a lot of the Dusenburg trem for the Gibson Les Paul style guitars.
Yes I’ve installed those Doozies and they work great!
Ooh yeah, that's a good shout. I forgot about those, always thought they looked really cool
I’m alway seeking a tele style guitar with a trem system. That’s the perfect setup with the humbucker/single.. the surf green tops it off .. dreamy guitar 😊
His bridge pickup is actually a humbucker housed in a single coil size pickup.
Sophisticated and well crafted and then they screwed it up with the ugly welded VT logo on the bar
I've had a neon hot pink guitar since before bush v gore. But that electric neon green strat is what I actually wanted it to be. I bet it looks sweet in a blacklight. Thanks again for another great informative video
what a smart piece of engineering
Another sick trem system for teles that uses the original mounting hardware is a Stetsbar! You should check them out. Its got a real bigsby vibe to it, but super simple to install and remove.
I was confused until you said Telecaster then I was it immediately. Brilliant design.
Great option for telecaster! Keep it simple!!! :)
So cool! I need this for my hard tail strat!
Seeing as 99.67% of Strats are built with a trem, why would you buy a hardtail and then put a trem on it? Surely it defeats the point of a hardtail.
@@martynridley3671 cause regrets bro!
@@wyldeslash2003 Oh, ok!! Hope you find a good solution that suits you.
Aloha Darrell! It looks like there is side load on the trem as you were bending it down….since it was made to incorporate their logo on the bar. I wonder if you’d get a more solid or aggressive feel if that bar was straight? Anyway, it has been awhile since I’ve dropped a comment on your channel. I have been subscribed to your channel for some time now and have enjoyed all your videos. You are a Solid player and MOJO in your fingahs Braddah! Mahalo nui loa for sharing your time with us and especially for this episode….that is a really cool gadget!
Im typically a hardtail guy, but I’m genuinely considering buying this for my Tele!
i have a top loader squire tele. i was going to drill it out to make it a string thru anyways so i might just go this route
Pretty slick!
Looks great.
nice review
Brilliant!
Sweet tele! Did you get any chip-out on the back when you removed the ferrules?
Yes, one. You can see it between the E and B.
Hi Darrell, this video is causing a bit of confusion: I believe you are mounting a new release but on the Vegatrem site (13th of May 2023) they are still showing the version where you need to drill 2 holes in the guitar body. Please give an update with clarifications. Thank you very much.
I almost forgot. I really like that trem system. I may have to check that out for myself.
Very cool!
Very cool! Would have loved to see a before and after A/B tone comparison. Not that it sounded bad after install, just curious if there might be an audible difference. Might there be some benefit in easing the holes a little more, enabling more free movement of the springs?
Cheers!
Дуже цікаве рішення для тремоло👍👍👍
If you got a Vega on your guitar....you already know VT are the absolute best if not one of the best in the market. Great video D 💯
Locking tuners and a VT on a strat get you within shooting distance of a Floyd with less hassle.
Damn straight! That trem that is.
I like it, it makes a telecaster into a stratocaster the same way a floyd rose upgrades a strat into a super strat.
Thanks Darrell, I was really interested in this product, would like to see you play it again as it adjusts to the guitar!
Was that the GFS body you're playing?
I'm not sure, it's been a while since I saw the making of this beauty so long ago?
Just when I thought I'd seen everything!
You get some of the most interesting guitar gadgets to show us.
I love there Strat design but I’ve sent mines back. It wasn’t chrome like the pics and the sales guy said Vega is only selling stainless steal for now (which looks cheap imo). 🤘🏼✌🏼
Really cool
This is a game changer if you can mount one on any hard tail guitar!
That's pretty cool
What's the purpose of six compensated saddles, if they are each fully independently adjustable?
You just answered your own question.
This makes me want a Tele ! :)
I can see me using the VT2ND because I would only use those warbles, and very subtle dives. I like it, now I can get a T and have even more fun with it!
The branding looks cool on the trem arm. If you mentioned making sure to adjust intonation i missed it.
I noticed you mentioned a screw in arm. Is it an unthreaded bar with a tightenable collet or is the bar actually threaded? Not a big fan of the old style threaded bars, but prefer an adjustable arm. Very cool however. Both my Tele's (A classic vibe and a partscaster I built) have Bigsby's with Vibramate adapters (for non-mod installs) and to make them easier to string - and they work beautifully but add a lot of weight. This is a really smart design.
Really love your videos and variety of content. :)
Excellent design & many thanks Darrell for bringing this to the fore, BUT, as much as i'd like to get one, i'm going to pass- Vegatrem's trems (try saying that 10 times in a row without faulting lol) are ridiculously expensive, this is the reason i never got one for my strat & went with a wilkinson replacement instead.
This is only my opinion, i'm not trashing the excellent product nor those who have no problem paying that sort of money (this one costs 260+ euro AND I'M IN EUROPE!)- also i really dont like the whammy bar- those VT letters kill it for me- but hey, since i wont be getting one, who cares right? :) Keep up the great vids, they are much appreciated.
Nice! 👍🏾
Very innovative design! A bit pricey, but very impressive.
Brilliant piece of engineering, I'm now wondering if they could use the same principle for a vintage style "V" (also strings through body)?
That’s a great idea
Tight!
Genius
Very cool , not in love with the logo bar but could be grinder off I guess 😂
Slick!
