For almost 40 years gamers (including me) have called the newest games “so realistic!” But this may be the only game ever that’s truly earned that title, this is for-sure a milestone in gaming
Theres also a few motorcycle games that have come pretty close to this
The found footage staticy aesthetic also helped within making it as realistic as possible
@@Random-gn6ew its a fisheye camera
@@gerardonavarro3400 the fuck is a camera?
This is fed through the same compression and subsampling as footage. Wait until you're actually rendering it.
What really sells the realism is the camera, effects, and sound design. It is crafted so perfectly.
Yup. The fraphics are good, but far from realistic compared to the real world.
What makes it seem so real is the animations and movements, the camera which acts similar to a go pro, and certainly the audio.
@@TheFrontyer
They really do look like a video recording of the real world tho, at times it really looks like real footage.
@@rickydo6572 yes it does. But mostly because of the reasons I listed.
@@TheFrontyer fraphics? xD
Every visual effect is beautiful but the only thing that pulls me away is how dumb the 'enemies' are.
Hope the devs look up some paintball games and get some basic tactical movement into the game, it will be chef's kiss.
Graphics so realistic it's going to have a few confirmed GPU kills on launch date.
the wild thing is that i dont think its the rendering that make it look so realistic; its the art direction. plenty of games are GPU intensive, but this is doing something new with it
nope, the art direction is just THAT good, the game does not seems gpu heavy at all
@@Cielesis Its 95% the engine. Unreal 5 is insane and every game will be able to do this on the new frame work.
@@jennareynolds1403 its not the art direction its unreal 5. there's other games that have shown gameplay demos that look just like this in terms of realistic.
The sound design really brings it all together. The sound of distant shots isn't overly loud, it sounds like real guns being fired. The breathing of the player, the scuffle of your feet and clothes, everything.
except when he racks the slide, it doesn't sound like he's chambering a round, you would know this if you had a lot of training and practice.
I like how the gunshots peak the camera’s mic, like it actually would.
I love how it looks more realistic because it simulates the look of camera footage rather than actual eyesight
It's almost genius
Actual eyesight seems kind of dissapointing when you can have color correction, halation, and other tricks to make images prettier.
You love that more than the lighting, graphics and designs? Hmm
You’re not wrong.. it’s the movement that really makes it look real.. if you pay attention to the details, then u see it’s a game it’s crazy but, this kinda proves u don’t need detailed textures if u can emulate movement and our eyes will do the rest

I've played videogames since the 90's. This is something I have always dreamed of. Actual immersive realism, we're finally getting there.
i love the way the problem of it being almost impossible to make a perfectly realistic human face is solved by blurring out the faces. It also adds to the overall bodycam feeling of the game
thats just for the trailer
@@SaturnsDoomed why wouldn't it be included in the actual game? it's smart and original.

I like the blur solution of the face. Everyone knows how hard it is to animate a face in a realistic way
It's much easier now with UE5
@@toby1248 not to a realistic point nothing has come far enough for us not to realize its not real our brains are too smart

hopefully we will get to see more kinds of maps and weapons. cause I'm sure they can get some sweet realistic looking weapons. also a VR mode (although quite a big milestone) would be cool to see one day

It looks real in 2D because its simulating VR movement. VR I'm this game would be identical to any other VR shooter.
For once, a realistic game that doesn't overuse reflections
Technically, modern lighting and ray trace is about overusing reflection. Just not rely on wet surface
Truly true
Or saturation
@@epicmetod yeah that's fair
Instead, it relies on grungy textures
For me, the most realistic thing isn’t the lighting, isn’t the effects, but it’s the part where the gun isn’t in the same place every time. It’s not stagnant on the bottom right corner like so many other games. In fact, it moves, sometimes to the center, and sometimes out of screen, according to the camera movement.
That detail alone could make other games feel much more immersive. Good observation.

That blur and shake as you shoot, then the smoke from the gun looks absolutely mind blowing
To me, those are the least realistic aspects. The blur is too perfect, too even. It looks more like a static blur than a motion one. And the smoke while moving doesn't seem to be responding to air currents, only the movement of the holder. Granted, smoke is hard to do and I'm not saying this thing looks bad.
At least there’s no fake muzzle flash

The blurring of the enemies faces kinda reminds me of Kane and Lynch 2 where if you shoot the enemy in the head, it blurs their face almost implying that their death was even worse than it really was. This game seems to use it to a similar effect.

The USP is a semi-automatic pistol with a mechanically locked breech using the short recoil method of operation. This rather conventional lock-up system has a large rectangular lug over the barrel's chamber that rides into and engages the ejection port cut-out in the slide. When a cartridge is fired, pressures generated by the ignited powder drive the cartridge casing back against the breech face on the slide, driving back both the barrel and slide as they remain locked together in the manner described above. After 3 mm (0.12 in) of unrestricted rearward travel, the projectile leaves the barrel and the gas pressures drop to a safe level. A shaped lug on the underside of the barrel chamber comes into contact with a hooked locking block at the end of the steel recoil spring guide rod, lowering the rear end of the barrel and stopping the barrel's rearward movement. The recoil spring assembly is held in place by the slide stop lever's axis pin and a round cut-out at the front of the slide. For enhanced reliability in high-dust environments, the locking surface on the front top of the barrel's locking lug is tapered with a forward slope. This tapered surface produces a camming action which assists in positive lock-up in the presence of heavy fouling and debris.

Bro this thing looks like some real footage . Great work
They really dropped the most technologically advanced game trailer of all time and did nothing since.
And used store assets to boot
There are some racing/car games that have looked very close to real life for me where I almost couldn't tell the difference if it was real life or not, but this game has blown those expectations out of the water to the point that my mind is blown at how most of the game does look straight up like real life. Take all the time you need to make this as good as possible. You have made something that games for the past 40-50 years could only dream of making. Good luck in development, and I can't wait to see more!
*agreed* Gran Turismo and Forza have always been up there in visuals, each gen... but part of the believability factor is that we KNOW "now" what cars are supposed to look like, moving, reflecting, certain lighting, on commercials, movies, real life etc. It's easier to rely on what the brain expects something to look like as opposed to what the game actually does, which to me is why this game is so brilliant.
Nearly everybody has seen youtube body-cam footage, and this developer takes advantage of that brilliantly. The little chromatic aberration at the edges of the lens (let alone the wide-angle lens itself), juuuuust the right amount of motion blur, and crisp Nanite environments that look straight out of someone's airsoft video.

This game already gets a ton of credit for how immersive it is from a visual stand point. And don’t get me wrong, it definitely is. But I think what truly elevates the experience to the next level is the immaculate sound design. Everything from the sound of the bullets falling down to even the slight rustle from your clothes with every sharp turn, it really makes the whole experience uncannily resemblant of our own world. It’s still beyond me to see that this project is actually real, and I have nothing but respect for the amount of effort the devs must have put in to match such a specific style that I wouldn’t find most AAA devs having the guts to accomplish. Bravo, DRAMA 👏
I actually think that the sound design needs some more work.
Some of the sounds don't even give me the feeling they were in game, but rather added in post during the edit for this preview. It sounds a bit too much like stock Hollywood sound effects or something.
I don't know if that is because of the theme or "aesthetic" they were going for, but if I had a say in the production, I would make e.g. the footsteps louder, maybe more hollow and add more reverb. Same for the other sounds.
It sounds a little too "clean" for bodycam footage. The Gopro's of this world for example have awful recording abilities as most of them are trapped in their translucent plastic cases that are not ideal for recording audio.
Some of the guns also sound weird. In the scene were a drone hits a metal support beam, the sound of the drone itself is good (I would add a little more of a metallic effect when it hits the beam), but the guy who's firing out you in that scene sounds like he has a Hollywood shotgun, when it looks like he wasn't wielding one later on in the video although it is difficult to see. Maybe the developer can way in on this.
Also, they should ditch the silly blur effect. I see no reason to add it in. It just distracts from the realism this game provides. The game is só close to being almost photo realistic that I think adding this effect is just taking the piss out of your own hard work.
the gun shots sound ridiculous

Ok guys you can tell us now how much terrabytes is 1 level gonna be🤗
The body cam post-processing is gorgeous and ironically adds to the realism by virtue of its limitations - we're very used to seeing video from cheap cameras with poor dynamic range, and so an excellent simulation of that look not only hides some of the perceptual "tells" of the image not being real but also makes it look more real because we associate that look with actual video footage.
reminds me on Ride on PS4 with the GO pro mod (or something like that), looked so real too.
That’s what a lot of people don’t understand
nailed it
Reminds me of a tip I heard from an artist: draw only what you can see, not what you know you are seeing. In real life, especially through the lens of a camera, you can’t see all the small details. Games nowadays feel unrealistic because they’re actually TOO detailed. Games look more real when the graphics are designed around what the human eye could realistically perceive instead of everything being as detailed as possible.
@@magmapixel8627 very good quote from that artists.
I fully agree that games kind of try going for too much. The result is that hyper-realistic feeling, where everything seems too deliberate and planned out. Real life is rarely like that, even in meticulously designed spaces some things just happen naturally and spontaneously.
That's why games look "gamy" and this demo (almost) looks like footage, because it emulates the idea very well. Not that I dislike gamy-looking games, I do for the most part and I do not think games should necessarily try to emulate real life (it really boils down to genre and what is the goal for the game), but we can say that a lot of those that do try to emulate real life often take the same missteps while doing so.

That’s how photogrammetry works. You take multiple pictures of an object then a program takes those pictures and turns them into usable 3D assets and or textures
It "feels like that" because that's exactly what they did. All the assets in the game are using downloadable megascans from the UE asset store. In the past, it wasn't really possible to load that many megascans in real time, but with UE5, you can throw any amount of stuff in there and the engine will handle it. However, be prepared for Unrecord to take up a "Record" amount of drive space, as those megascans are HUGE.

This is absolutely incredible work. There are definitely tells if you know where to look, but I cannot wait to play this. You have set a new bar for gaming realism, and the fact that your website lists three people as part of the team is equally amazing.
yeah like the rocks/rubble in front of the delivery truck or shadows not being casted well or at all. still, a lot of potential to be excited for here.
Amazing

@@USMCCombatVet4TastyCrayons bro how
@thelemon1995 really? How? It is far more plausible this is a hoax or a CON.
1. Three complete unknowns to the industry (one of whom is a nobody in the music world).
2. No proof of concept (no storyboards, no early character or level designs, not even a BASIC plot synopsis or a simple name for the protagonist has been provided- all sketchy red flags
3. Like cheaters in math class in school, they have this supposed "playable, functioning" game DEMO in the "early stages of production" that is somehow completely polished with post production sounds effects, environmental and LIGHT RENDERING effects, and glitch-free/lag free FLAWLESS "hyper realistic" graphics?
4. Everything said about the "game" has been vague and full of hype language, not ACTUAL vision or anything remotely tangible.
5. No matter how good the tech has gotten, AAA developers haven't been able to reach that kind of realism, even the GTA 5 hyper-reality mod that has been continuously worked on for YEARS doesn't look real enough that people are debating if it is FMV, fake, real, etc.
6. Their "studio" website is pretty much EMPTY and has NOTHING other than this hype "trailer" and a bunch of vague "answers" on a DISINGENUOUS list of BS questions with BS answers.
7. Their "press kit" is nothing but a web page link to a GOOGLE DRIVE folder with a redundant copy of the "trailer" and a "pitch points" PDF that looks Ike something a highschooler made for a graphic design class.
8. On top of NO credibility or credentials being provided, these three have ZERO portfolios of work to offer to demonstrate their legitimacy as game devs with prior experience.
9. Their "about us/contact us" info has NO business credentials or address where their "studio" is physically located, not even a simple city name.
10. Studios Drama does NOT exist anywhere but social media accounts these guys made - no business records results come up, no addresses, no phone numbers - no respectable venture holds such basics so close to the chest (I'm assuming they only reveal things like location and phone when someone bites and offers them financial backing).
11. FINALLY, There is NEVER a repeated movement by the "character." Every reload, every section of walking or running is unique. That is unheard of in all of video games. Completely organic and random human movements??? Completely perfect "hyper realistic weapon discharge visuals AND sou d that changes with surroundings???? In a "demo????" That they have carefully pretended to "prove is legit" while not proving anything (and not showing someone actively playing the "demo" so we can see their actions affect the character on the screen - proving it is a functional demo, and not just some STAGED VIDEO RECORDING with a few deliberate computer generated overlays and effects to make simpler people THINK it is real.

I think the camera movement/effects are what bring this to the next level. The fact that the quality isn't perfect masks a lot of "gamey" aspects of the engine. It's like adding a VHS overlay to a CGI heavy movie. Hides any imperfections that tell your brain it isn't real.

Yeah it seems everyone in the comments is forgetting how "early stage gameplay trailers" usually pan out in comparison to the final product. It's marketing material. Check the disclaimer in the description folks.
All we're seeing here is effective use of UE assets and spectacular sound design/movement. It's not something that really merits caution lol, the game is perfectly in the realm of possibility. But gamers nowadays only watch game reveals so they can invent head-canon issues that the game will have in the future, then moan & whine about it.

If this runs well in real time, regardless of fun factor, some of your techniques will become the new industry standard. I have no doubt about it. That must feel cool as hell. Hope it all pans out well.
My only advice is MAKE SURE to get the "bad" out there asap. Like, any super big holes in the gameplay or a ridiculously short game length or ANYTHING like that; make it known. You don't want this community to feel misled 😅😅
What do you mean if?
There aren't new techniques. They didn't make the level, they bought it online. This is just unreal engine 5 with some animations. Far less work has gone into it than you think.
@@Tattlebot the camerawork is a rather new technique, u would only this type of camerawork in those movie games where u make decisions (forgot what these games are called lol), they took advantage of the blurry shaky camera to 'take out' some of the unrealistic janky stuff, and the end result made the game's graphic looks so fenomenal, it'll probably looked like standard assets if u remove all the camera filters
@@slavchems4759 This game should not be on early access until it's proven that they can create original assets and actually produce the game. What we have here is a set of (good) animations and camera effects. The dialogue choice wheel at the end was also very unpromising.

This looks very good. The are still a few tells that this is a game, and I'm sure the process of working every single little detail out is a painstaking one; as game assets get more and more believable with each iteration, the starker the contrast with what doesn't look on par yet, and it shows that these guys have poured a lot of effort into it. Curious to see how far they're willing to take perfectionism.
Yeah this is very difficult to tell its a game at first glance, but its the running and explosion kinda give it away, the running seems a bit too smooth and instantaneous, and the explosion probably shouldn't be that bright
Yeah, gameplay wise you still want the movement to feel zippy and responsive; it's a trade-off that doesn't play well with ultra realism, as it would probably feel sluggish otherwise.
The ones that are sticking out to me are the flashlight being too defined, dark environments looking excessively crisp for bodycam quality, motion blur + soft focus looking out of place and some items that are too perfect (truck windshield and metal barrels). And even then, perfectionism has a way of making insignificant details stand out once the egregious ones have been polished, just to put the scale of such a project into perspective.
@@Gage-nt says someone who clearly has never seen a real explosion
