This is not workstation it can't handle CAD in NX or Creo very much, difference in gaming and CAD, simulation GPU.
Don't be so weak in knowledge about PC where your living in USA.
aren't you missing the
WD Blue SN500 500GB NVMe Internal SSD? If you add that and the cooler is around $900 total
How's this for Revit?
Thrilled to see you putting together this video! I have been compiling a list of parts to purchase this year during black Friday and Cyber Monday sales so this will be very beneficial!
I was looking at a very similar machine for cad work and school, really grateful that you shared the build and what benchmarks you could!
very rare content on youtube platform woah , thanks for sharing it and also can you have update for 2020
The best part of your videos are the straightup honest real-world analysis you provide. Your previous videos were right on about Intel being king. I didn't go that way with my build at the time because I wanted to support the Ryzen pathway. Ryzen has come a long way in just two years! How were temps in that InWin case though? I've heard/seen many folks stating that the cases are heat traps. I love the quick snap side panel though.
tbh with 3D CAD it rarely ever heats things up, single threaded sporadic workloads aren't creating much heat. But if you do end up doing stuff which is generating heat, I would recommend looking at Gamers Nexus to see if they've covered these cases... I don't have the time or resource to do thermal benchmarks on cases and even if I tried, the likes of GN have set the bar and expectations so high that I'd just be criticised for not being of that standard. But tbh this build has a low heat output anyway so I didn't see the case being a bottleneck at all there.
Fantastic video - incredibly helpful. Thank you.
Nice benchmarks, very real world oriented
Wrapping up my PC build right now. This video helped a lot to try and not go to overboard and also put into light the professional GPU cards may not be needed since I do blocks of CAD work versus heavy simulations. Very similar specs, except I ended up tweaking things do to cost differences. Ended up with the 3600x, did 4 sticks of 8gb ram, and I just ordered the RX590 since for some reason it was a lot less than the RX580 but with slightly better specs.
How is it running so far? I am going to build mine too so looking for the best option. So far I think, ryzen 5 3600 is the choice for budget cpu which is really good. And a B450 pro F motherboard. And a RX 580 GPU. And will have to make sure the RAM sticks have higher memory speed to take advantage of the ryzen cpu. Though, when thinking about upgradability, ryzen 4 is few months away. I really wonder if B450 motherbord can support those CPUs.
@@abdullamasud4278 I think you should stick with NVIDIA GPU's
I swear by those sn500 m.2 drives. I use them in my customers builds and repairs. hey now have the sn 550 M.2s, but they are both great!
Excellent, and very timely!.
Thanks for sharing.
wow. 3600 was $200...it's $250 now. thanks you for this. it's hard to find workstation setup without the quadro card. everything is either that or gaming benchmark focus only.
Thanks for sharing this budget build! I'm currently looking to build my first computer, I've been modeling on my MacBook for years. I was curious if something like this could keep up with large Grasshopper files? Or is there a component I'd want to upgrade further? Thanks!
Super info! Thank you very much!
What NVIDEO GPU would you choose for this for replace that Radeon one?
The music killed it. Else the video and narration is good.
I’m surprised that you didn’t go for a workstation gpu in this build. Some months ago, I’ve build a system with the 1600x and Radeon pro 3100. I’ve heard some say that you could combine A nvidia and amd gpu and choose dedicated programs for each to run, any experience combining those?
Does amd gpu beats nvidia on cad cases? Thats interesting, trying to build one for archicad, should i go for i5 8400 or ryzen 3rd generation?
Good stuff. I've been thinking about very similar setup that I would like to have very good cad performance and also occasionally use same machine for gaming and other more power demanding stuff. Pretty much identical setup in mind but thought about ryzen 7. Though looks like ryzen 5 would fair pretty damn well.
Hi @TFI I just graduated Automotive Engineering and I am looking for a new workstation for CAD. Does this workstation run well with simulations in Solidworks as well as Inventor? I am teaching my self how to use Inventor HSM and was wondering if this will all run smoothly. I am not a beginner with CAD so I do need something that will be able to take the load. Would you still advise this workstation for me? Sorry not a wizz with computers. Just love using CAD programs.
Hey mate. Have you got an updated version of this for 2020?
I asked the same, before I saw your comment.
@Smelly Revolutionary He is asking for everyone else that don’t already have a workstation, like me.
Considering he got locked in with 400-series motherboard, a low Watt PSU, and wasted money on a 6-core CPU that the software doesn't even use.. not sure you want it.
Tou could not have timed this video more perfectly. I am receiving funds to buy a new computer that I will use primarily for web design work but I will also be using it for lite Revit and video editing projects. All of the hype over the Ryzen 3000 cpus has left me hopelessly frustrated with how to configure a BASE system to START my business.
I can comfortably say your video has saved me probably close to $1,000. The only thing I think I may change is the RAM. All the videos I've been watching say the sweet spot for memory speed is 3600. From what I've seen if you used 3600 speed RAM instead of 3200 speed you would see a pretty significant increase in performance. Other than that I am comfortable moving forward with the Ryzen 3600 instead of the 3700X to get started.
Thanks again for the timely video.
I didn't talk about this as I didn't want to waffle on too much, but because I went for the cheaper B450M board, they natively support up to 3200mhz RAM. Whilst 3600 might work, it also might not, so I didn't want to risk it and honestly I've overclocked the Ram to 3600 and its nothing to get excited about! That was with an infinity fabric OC as well.
@@Neil3D thanks for the feedback. I think this will be a great starter system for Revit and Inventor that I can comfortably use fro my website development work. Later I can look at transferring the CAD and Video production to a more powerful Ryzen system.
Hi Neil, with this budget, currently what would the best build be? Considering the new prices and the new releases.
Would you say either of these would be good for doing basic graphic design stuff and beyond that just regular computer stuff maybe a few games etc?
Hey @TFI, thanks for the video. I'm currently looking for a new build and that's certainly a few data points added to my research :D
A quick question - does CAD work in the same way as DIALux (basic version, not EVO) does? At least in terms of creating projects and working on them (not rendering the final product)? I want to buy a new PC to help my gf with her project since her laptop is pretty much dead at this point and my old PC which I haven't been really using (MSI R9 270x 2GB, Ryzen 1200, 16 GBs of RAM) is getting slow as well.
Would love to use the build you've described here or at least some part. Currently, I was thinking about buying a slightly used build with i5-9600K and Quadro P1000 or a new build with i5 10400F and GTX 970 4GB. What do you think is the best option? After your video, I'm wondering whether Intel is still the best choice.. :p
Do you recommend 5500 xt or rx 580 for cad?
Any chance you can update this configuration suggestion? Using the components we have available now.
I have an old 5820k, it was AWESOME when I bought it. But I think I'm going to try and grab a Ryzen 9 come holiday time. I know you're not sponsored but it would be awesome if you would be able to do a comparison
At the moment my budget is low, and I think about getting a ryzen for solidworks (modeling and simulation), will I be well served with Ryzen 5 3600 or is it worth taking a Ryzen 7 3700x? Is their performance satisfactory for solidworks, catia and cad?
I am really truly stunned by these results. Never been into AMD but ... Seriously? Weren't they supposed to be hot and slow?I I think I will have to rethink my purchasing habits. Many thanks for making this video. This certainly is very helpful for decision making.
Aye a lot has changed recently! First and second generation of the new Ryzen CPUs where very disappointing, but these third generation CPUs are on the 7nm process which makes them top dog for now. I've no doubt Intel are about ready to drop something in response to all this, an i9-10900K or something like that, but AMD are killing it right now. If there's no Intel response any time soon, I'm probably going to upgrade my main PC here to the R9 3950X when it comes out, 16 cores with a 4.7GHz boost clock is going to be MENTAL.
@@Neil3D Appears Intel only has some overclocked 9900k on the roadmap. I can't find anything really new till somewhen in 2020. Seems like AMD caught them pants down. Well... looks like that's a good thing then.
looking forward to an update after hardware apocalypse is over
would these specs be sufficient for CATIA V5, mostly for static and dynamic designing, no simulations?
i would be so much thankful to you becaz i m really in dire need of a new pc for work
Thank you for the video mate! I bought the 3600 myself (instead of 3700) thinking I was missing out on performance.
But seeing this, I guess I’m good for now, i will just upgrade to the next gen ryzen, or a 3900x once prices drop further.
Cheers from Manila!
For Blender Cycles/Octane rendering vids no more than 4 minutes long, would this build make sense/ cut down the rendering times?
And here I was thinking to go back to intel 😹
Hi Neil, have you used quadro K2200 o M2000 for Autodesk Inventor? How about their perfornance?
Is Nvidia 1660 Super 6gb GDDR6 better than RX590 8gb GDDR5 for CAD Softwares??
RX 580 is actually quite strong on "COMPUTE WORKLOADS" (GCN in general!), much more so than similar Nvidia products, so for the money you get alot, on that field. Just think all the people that used shitton of RX570,480,580 for mining... at one point you couldnt buy them for like a year, cause the miner were hoggin them up, Vega's too and drove the prices up heavily too.
Is RX590 better than 1660 Super for CAD Softwares like Catia V5, Solidworks, Ansys etc??
Thanks this is helpful... I am going to try to build a system close to this one and has all the same components but I was gona cheap out on the ram to save money but I think with seeing this video I will get the more expensive ram.. at least 3000 MHz..... I am wanting to run unity and unreal engine and my system now is 13 years old.. and will not run the software.. but I want a motherboard that I can upgrade in the future and have plenty of room for storage... it’s either gona be the B450 gaming plus or X470... the on,y reason why is because these boards work with all the RYzen cpus..
someone told me that some of the cad softwares are not compatible with amd cpu and gup.If so can you tell me which of those softwares that might be. thanks
Almost all CPUs are compatible except that GPU is suggested to be NVidia Quadro, AMD Radeon Pro WX series or AMD FirePro
Hey, how about viewport performance? Since you’re not using a high end gpu, will it do well in extensive viewport work? Panning, zooming, orbiting, because I want to build a smooth 3d modelling pc, preferrably getting more than 60 fps in viewport
See this video, it'll explain everything you need to know about viewport performance ua-cam.com/video/JNsXzIezGFw/v-deo.html tldw; Most Autodesk applications aren't GPU accelerated
Would you please explain something more about Revit certification test? Is this tool possible to aquire someway? Thank you for your help.
Yeah please, watching this I think I could probably get it with this hardware, but idk what is it
Looks amazing to me, but... airflow in the case O_o it looks like a solid front and side.
Hello! Thanks for the video... what about this build for Agisoft Metashape, Surfer, QGIS, AutoCAD, AutoCAD RECAP and other photogrammetry, topography softwares.I have 1000 dlls to build a PC for this, but from scratch! I don't have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc...
Somebody help us
i dont trust to corsair VS series, i got this product then it destroy 2 times so i switch to CX version and till (2 years if using) now its working fine.
So intel lost all advantage over amd in CAD.
Will you run your old 23 point benchmark on ryzen 3rd gen?
I mean, psshh, obviously I thought about doing that here but y'see here's the thing... Inventor is so inconsistent across each of those tests because its so sensitive to 1 core, so each test has massive variance, a test might take 98 seconds to complete... you can run it again immediately after and it might randomly then take 105 seconds, or 84, and over 23 tests you can easily sink 3-4 hours into it. If someone could automate the tests for me so I don't have to sit watching them with my phone stopwatch, then yea I'd probably bring that back but it's just too time consuming - and every time Autodesk bring out a new service pack it invalidates all my previous tests because they optimise the code each time. So new tests couldn't be compared to any of the old ones, which makes for a pretty useless comparison when you've got nothing to compare it to! So long story short, if someone could reliably automate the 23 tests then yea I'd probs bring them back, but for now I'm kinda leaving it alone!
@@Neil3D were you thinking about adding simulations speed tests, like for example static stress test of a sigle part, generating mesh, ect.?
My i7 ASUS AIO just died. Bios is toast. I work with fusion 360, some HD video work and lots of 3D printing. This build us very exciting as I was thinking I would need to out over 2K to replace my ASUS. I suppose this system would be very better than my NVidua 640M GPU on my 2013 PC. I'll miss the AIO form factor and touch screen, but thus looks like will run circlesxaround my current rig. What benifit would going to a Ryzen 7 give me, Maxwell as more RAM?
But what do i need for a 2D cad workstation?
Being a year later now.. does anyone know if this still a good base for solidworks in 2020? I’m looking to build a PC for solidworks 2020 but quite frankly I don’t even know where to begin so it would be very convenient if this is still up to par!
Hi everyone, do you think the Radeon Pro WX 3100 work better for FUSION 360 instead of the RX 580?, I do very small amount of modelling (polygon) 3D (Silo 3D, blender sketchup), I want the PC for Fusion 360 and Rhino 3D, thank you for the help
I need to buy.
How would this work for Civil 3D? Will the gpu be ok?
As far as i know, and with experience, civil 3d doesnt load your gpu that much.. the redraw rate and the bulk of that process is on the cpu.. not even multithreading.. so the higher your single cpu clock speed and bigger ram size, youll be well better of..
is it okay to use amd gpu? they said nvidia gpu are better in cad uses
I see some unaccounted for fans in the computer there, what’s the deal with that? I’m going to build one of these and I need to know what the cooling solution is for everything else
maybe it comes with the case?
is there a 2021 version of this video?
Looking into building this ! If i have the extra cash, would it be worth it to use a Quadro P2000 instead, with the rest of the build remaining the same?
Manuel Santana nah man
I bought a sapphire RX570 for my workstation and had issues with graphic artifacts. I sent it back to the seller swaped it. Another RX570, same problems. Later I switched to my old GTX1070 from my gaming rig and the issues were gone. Maybe AMD is not the best choice for inventor.
ok, but what about a 4d workstation pc?
For fucks sake xD if this was released about 2 months before, i could have built this, i work for a small engineering company and im the only one in the company with cad experience so the boss asked if i could create a list of parts to buy and he'd get me to build it, he only shelled out like a grand or something and is a Ryzen 5 2600, Gigabyte B350 D3SH, ASUS GTX 1050ti 16gigs of corsair vengeance ddr4 3000mhz and a 500gb m.2 ssd. It works fine for most cad work, but this is significantly better than the one o built and is much cheaper. Quality video Neil
(There was a 21:9 monitor within that price point too, forgot to mention)
Aye soz like, the new Ryzen 3000 stuff wasn't even out 2 months ago! Still tho, you've got a pretty decent deal to get all that and a 21:9 monitor for a grand.
@@Neil3D like i could have took the piss and got him to get a premade HP or Dell workstation but i kinda wanted to build one for a laugh (as i havent built a system in a while) and might aswell save him some bob while im at it.
Would you recommend the 2700X or would you go with the 3600?
The 2700X is ~30€ cheaper and has 2 more cores.
considering the same
Jamarr Bowen hey 👋🏻
I‘m glad that I’m not the only one in the world with this problem..
@@Arome909 Same here lol except I'm looking at just the 2700 non X model. They're near identical when overclocked and the 2700 is cheaper for me in the UK (2700-£135, 2700X-£161). The X model has a better box cooler I think but I have a 3rd party cooler already. From hardware unboxed benchmarks the 2700 is better in multithreaded tasks (as you would expect) and the 3600 (£175 here) is better single thread. 2700 comes out better cost per frame for gaming than 3600 for my prices (yes I sat down and worked it out). 2600 (£111 here) is better again cost/frame but I decided to spend an extra 20% on the 2700 for 33% more cores and threads. EDIT: and I have a X370 mobo which can provide plenty of power for the 8 core 16 thread CPU, although both overclocked probably have a similar TDP
@@christianriekert2908 Yeah... I really need extra cores for workstation. But I've gone through an rx 580 8gb --> 5700 --> 5700XT and a ryzen laptop in this year alone. Don't want to shell out 400-600 on another CPU when i need more RAM as well ... but consensus seems that to clean up lower 1% in gaming , purchase the 3700X. but 2700x seems fine for multitasking. that TDP though...
@@Bordpie Yeah i feel that one, I just need cores for VMs ETC. Don't care too much for gaming, since I'm gaming less nowadays
Buy or build. Is there store floor systems that are great or price results best to build?
build... always...
Is helios 300 laptop with 9th gen i5 and gtx 1660ti enough for cad softwares like solidworks, catia and ansys. I do gaming too
no solidworks does not work on that gpu, there is no driver for thatt yet
how would this build perform in rendering animations? Building a PC for blender rendering Octane/Cycles
@Smelly Revolutionary thank youuuuu. There are WAY too many options in the PC build world so im incredibly confused on what to purchase. Can you suggest a mid range yet good NVDIA graphics card? Also what motherboard would you suggest?
Did this same build for a co-worker because he does cad on the side. Wish the video would have mentioned that you need an older cpu to flash the bios before the ryzen 5 3600 CPU would actually work with this Mobo. Donut -_-
You don’t. I intentionally chose this board over cheaper ones because it supports BIOS flashback, you can put a new BIOS on a USB stick and flash from that. It’s in the manual for the board.
MSI B450 Tomahawk Max is compatible with Ryzen 3000 series
What's your normal station?
2021 update?
we need to double it for performance and price by 5700 power
thats ntot a workstatio gpu, it would suck
i will built it and if it rocks i will write you a loveletter.
Hey curious if you built this and if so any feedback?
Thank you Neil. I just ran the Inventor Quick Test benchmark on my 4 year old system. 5.47 hahaha :) Time for a new setup. Also is it worth it to look at the Nvidia Quadro K4000 instead of the 580? I don't know much about GPUs but always hear Quadro is a good choice.
Negative, the K4000 is too old now. Honestly I only picked the 580 here to keep the costs down but it's got the credentials for Inventor. But if you want a Quadro, the P2000 is probably the best value right now but it's still expensive as are all Quadros!
@@Neil3D Thanks for the insight Neil. Much appreciated. Yeah that P2k is double the price of the 580 :)
Awesome video, I've actually been putting together a list of pretty much the same parts. I'll definitely use your affiliate links! It's the least I can do for you basically teaching me Inventor with zero outside CAD experience!
Thanks man, it helps a lot!
is this better then the m1 mac mini?
The corsair h60 doesn't fit the Motherboard with the mounts it comes with! So annoying trying to build this...
my laptop got a 7.83 score in inventor, not too bad i guess for a 3 year old laptop that costed 1200 euros
This is regular prices now. Goodluck trying to make this exact computer now for under $1,000. Everything is sold out so gotta spend extra $50-$150 on parts regular prices
what about a low budget professional parts cad workstation?
I mean, not naming any names or anything, but if the parts makers would send their pro parts to creators who are capable of doing more useful things than playing doom on them then there might be more useful info out there for you. Instead I’ve got no pro parts because they’re all in someone’s warehouse on a shelf having done nothing else but played a few games on them for a light hearted completely benign filler video. Unfortunately that’s just the way it is, I simply can’t afford to buy those kind of pro parts for a video that won’t get that many views.
I should've gone this route. My Dell T3630 sucks. For some reason, it freezes a lot. I wish I could return it.
@@Grumpy_Cyborg Thanks for the tip. One of the first things I did. Together with switching SSDs, disabling iGPU, etc. I figured out it doesn't happen when I don't use chrome. What's interesting is Chrome Canary and Opera don't make the pc freeze but Firefox, Chrome & MS Edge Chromium base does make it freeze. Can't explain why.
Would running this system with an entry level Radeon pro instead of the RX580 be any advantage?
It'll be more expensive and less powerful, the only advantage being you've got a certified GPU with the only benefit being the potential support which I don't know anyone who has actually used before! But the likes of the WX3100 is very weak compared to the RX580 so its a trade off, pro card and support vs gaming grade with more performance.
Cheers. Great video.

SSD WD or Intel ?
Amazing, It's awensome how AMD get back to the battle and just change the market. Curious to see if there is a laptop that can be something similar to this, Helios 300 for example? Don't know, just curios about.
Whats the difference between the $650 version and the $800 one?
I think it's just the case and motherboard. And brands of the GPU and RAM sticks.
Hi, are you sell used items😁
Can I use this PC for gaming as well?
Yes, you can

Rx 580 or gtx 1060ti which is best for autodesk.
None, go for a Quadro.
The others are for gaming.
No one warns of the importance of the information that an update BIOS is needed on the motherboard. Without an update BIOS motherboard is CPU 5 3600 unusable
Not even joking, Ryzen 3 3100 is good enough for basic CAD. Good enough to get your system built and waiting for a discount on 5000 series 🤷♂️

Yes but nividia is better in such workflows
Autocad and solidworks computer software
would you consider this build for 2020.
@@senzari around $800 feasible?
Would this be suitable for SolidWorks?
SWX has a reliance on Quadro Graphics Cards for its realview feature, or whatever it’s called, so it’s not as agnostic as Inventor but it should still be pretty capable if you’re prepared to cope with a few lower graphical settings
@@Neil3D So essentially I could swap the Graphics Card for say a PNY Quadro P2200 5? I suppose at the expense of any gaming I could do on the other card.
so i could use this as a workstation for blender and maybe 3d printing ?
i like this build, if i am building 2 … 2d Cad work station for my detailing department to primarly doing drafting work eg. gcds.carterfamily.ca/sample-drawings/steel-detailing
similar to that, do i need a quadro p4000 card or a rx580 is enough? Also not sure if i should go with ryzen 7 series instead, but i may be for what we do does not benefit more cores? and that ryzen 5 3600 is enough

I need to know this stuff, but this vid would have been a lot easier to watch with a bit less editing. Next time please leave the music volume down low, so that it's significantly quieter than your voice, and don't do the fancy zoom-in-and-out visual stuff? Some of us have chronic migraine.
How does this perform in the likes of 3DS max running Corona renderer?🤔
I’m not sure if I’m able to get a copy of Corona to try it out, I’ll check but I doubt it’s free!
TFI - CAD & Technology For Industry it would amazing if you could! Thanks!
@@Neil3D You can try it for 45 days for free -demo mode
@@JamesLenane I've just found there's a standalone Corona benchmark, I'm using that and will follow up with a new video
@@Neil3D Cheers mate be interesting to see, nice rig btw, thinks have really changed at the moment when I built my rig a few years ago now the firepro graphics card cost more than that whole set up lol, might build one for my son for gaming as already have a few bits still in boxes👍
The cooler isn't needed. A 30 dollar aircooler will do the same job.
