  • Josh Zhou (1714) vs Gary Ng (1507)
In this match, I play against one of my OG training partners Gary who I started playing with 1.5 years ago.
Gary can be tough to play for me depending on the day, sometimes I beat him and other times he has my number.
This was a fun match during U1800 group stage as I've never officially played Gary in an USATT sanctioned event before.
This match is at the 2024 Butterfly SPTTC April Open in Bellevue, Washington.

Are you not using short pips anymore? Your topspin is really good. Any advice for us on achieving that? Great videos and thanks for sharing.

Still uploading matches from before I switched to the DARK SIDE... short pips match play coming soon tho!
Thanks - I've gotten a lot of coaching over the past two year since I've started so I'd say getting a good coach to help you with form and practice single ball and multi-ball drills help a lot.
In terms of cues that have helped me out:
      - Initiating power from the legs and hips (think torque with your hips kinda like your dancing lol)
      - Learning weight transfer (this took me a long time tbh but shadow training / practicing at home helped me a lot)
      - Instant power by flexing / snapping forearm at end of the stroke helps (I used to practice flexing / relaxing a bunch at home per my coach's suggestion)
      - Relaxing body until moment of contact then snapping
Another thing my coach told me that was helpful to visualize the power transfer was comparing it to boxing with how fighters punch since I used to only use my arms when looping so now I try to focus on using my whole body to generate more power. Hopefully that helps!

@@musclepong Thanks for detail response. I play at 888 TTC in Burlingame, CA and I noticed you played at one of the tournaments there. Keep up your good work!

@musclepong Great tips, thank you!! Do you have any specific pointers about racket angles? I think i typically play with too open an angle, so it leads to me slapping the ball instead of spinning it

@@musclepong Excellent tipcs, the same things i too realized in the last two months of working for the first time with a coach. Additionally i also found imagining being on the toes/having srings on your feet helps a lot in foot movement. ANother one - taking an extra mini second to allow ball to come to the right position before hitting it.
