In this match, I play against Uncle Tom, someone who I play in open play and league regularaly.
Tom's USATT league rating is 1800 and he doesn't play in higher rated tournament event... he claims he wants to keep his rating lower for doubles.
Tom is very tricky because he has a very unorthodox playing style but is able to generate a shit load of spin that is pretty tough to block.
I had to go hard this match since Tom beats me more often than not during open play, but fortunately ya boi has a solid track record against Tom in tournaments.
Side note: if you are ever at SPTTC, be careful if he starts taking off his shoes 😂 (IYKYK)
This match is at the 2024 Butterfly SPTTC April Open in Bellevue, Washington.

bud, you are so close to unlocking your true form as the muscle pong monster. focus on hip rotation with your forehand drive and the ball will explode off the racket. when your hip rotation is on point, your power is way up and you win your points decisively. Nice win!

@@musclepong You got it, man. You are athletic and move well for such a big guy. Probably only about 20% of your power is utilized now. Once you get your hip rotational dialed in, you'll blow past 2000 ranking easily.

If I many be so bold, in this game, it seemed like you really favored your BH for serve receives and it can really pull you out of position if the opponent serves short to you FH (i.e.: 5:22 & 7:46).
You have really fast reaction time and footwork so it's ok for now but I feel like it'll make things a lot easier for you if you utilized your FH for 2nd ball a little more (when appropriate, of course).
If you're going to use BH on FH receives, it might actually be safer to attack it with a flick or aggressive push to their long FH so they have a more difficult 3rd ball and set you up for your 4th.
    Just my opinion though 😅

Great observations - I definitely have a habit of receiving whole table with my backhand, but ever switching to SP on my backhand been trying to use my FH more on the FH side of table

i played this Uncle Tom guy April open at u1550. He was 14xx something at the time. Boy did it feel like he was playing way better than his suggested rating. Felt like he was sandbagging against me. Beat me with the greatest of ease. Even my Coach Top said, "yeah...that guy is pretty good." Little did i know...

@@ikunpong Uncle Tom has an 1800 league rating. Definitely stronger than his tournament rating. Sometimes a significantly higher league rating means they just play better against opponents they usually play against.

Lol yeah idk why Uncle Tom keeps his tourney rating so low. He's beaten >2000 guys in open play before 😂
