A Recruit knows the sound of his Drill Instructors voice. I've "never" forgotten Ssgt Stewart Ssgt Johnigon Sgt Valentine Sgt Guest voices. Plt 395, 3rd Bn Parris Island Oct-Dec73. Almost 50 years ago. Semper Fi from an old Marine Sergeant

Same, I could hear MAC Hicks, STG1 Grant, SH Lewis, and CS2 Smith any day and I'd instantly recognize them.

There is order in This Chaos, one that you cannot fathom until you have completed recruit training.

I feel like yelling only turns people off rather than help them or encourage them to be a part of the process. You can discipline people and show them how to do something correctly without being degrading or overly harsh. In real life situations, people's voices may be raised, but they're not going to necessarily be insulting. There's other ways of being strict besides uselessly screaming and being toxic. Someone that needlessly yells at me would only make me hate them, and ultimately learn nothing, or it could ruin my confidence. I might even intentionally do mistakes on purpose just out of spite, just for their pompous reaction. There's other ways of gaining respect besides being a bunghole. People that are good at being yelled at won't necessarily translate to them being calm when they get shot or are in a difficult situation. Feeling calm and collected, while remaining precise, seems to do more good than just being overbearing. Getting information out clearly in a dignified manner is more important than just being loud and salty. I am not saying that your "higher up" has to be soft. I'm just saying that having a horrible attitude and having an obnoxious vibe only pushes people away. If it weren't for these types of requirements that you need to get abused in order to become a soldier, I might have been in the military; getting yelled at serves no real function or purpose on how well you will do, nor does it translate to real life. People should be focused on de-escalation rather than encourage bitter feelings and hatred. I want to feel proud and supported, not disgraced and treated coldly. Anger and insecurities solves nothing.

Stop projecting. If your house was on fire , you would yell to those around for their safety.
If you saw a pedestrian about to walk into oncoming traffic, you would yell for their safety.
