The Book Thief is probably my favorite YA historical fiction. I agree with a lot you're saying about this book. I am the movie stayed close to the book as well.
"Between shades of gray" is just amazing. I finished, cried for three days, and then picked up again because I just had to read it again. I just HAD to. I really want to read "Salt to the sea" by Ruta Sepetys, that follows the story of Lina's cousin, Joana. Also, "All the light we cannot see" by Anothony Doerr and "The book thief" by Markus Zusak were devastatingly beautiful and heartbreaking historical fiction books for me. Another one that I don't really know if it's historical fiction is "Fateful" by Claudia Gray, which is set in the Titanic and includes werewolves. I loved that one, and it's been a week since I finished it but I still can't get over it nor Alec Marlowe.
I am so in love with historical fiction and Ruta Sepetys and her book Salt to the Sea is an AMAZING historical fiction novel that is multiple perspectives and i highly recommend
I just read that book a few weeks ago and I have to say that salt to the sea is one of the most beautiful books I’ve ever read. I don’t normally read historical books but when I read this book I was so touched. I cried for like a week and am just reading it again but I love it so much.
I haven't read historical fiction before but have always wanted to - The Diviners sounds fantastic and I would love to read it soon! Heard the audiobook is also fab! Reeeeally need to read The Book Thief too!
at the end of the audiobook for between shades of gray, Ruta says that the reason it's not talked about is because Lithuanian's and others who were deported by Stalin were so terrified of Russia that they basically refused to acknowledge what had happened to them. they thought that if they talked about what happened they would be punished for it, so no one knows what went on, and between shades of gray is basically the first telling of the events.
They all sound amazing! Winter puts me in a historical fiction mood. I will probably be reading most of these this winter. Please keep these recommendations coming!
Thanks for these awesome book recommendations 📚📚📚❤️❤️❤️. I’m trying to get out of reading slump. I’m working on trying to read more this new year. I’m definitely a historical fiction buff. I put a lot your books in my TBR Lists.
I love historical fiction! I'm not really into WWII, because I've had to learn so much about that time period through my education. It's still lovely to hear people talking about historical fiction. There is always a chance someone might sell me on a WWII book, haha. I've been wanting to read The Diviners for a while now. Really have to get on that.
I totally have the same shirt! Awesome recommendations. I have The Book Thief sitting waiting for me to read next. I am dying to read most of the books on this list.
I 100% agree with all your recommendations! I haven't read Code Name Verity or Prisoner of Night and Fog, but they are already on my TBR. I love historical fiction so much
I love historical fiction, yet have not read these, so thanks so much for the recommendations. I particularly like the look of Born Wicked, so think I'll start there, thanks.
Thanks for the recommendations !Two of my favourite Historical Fiction novels are Cleopatra's Daughter by Michelle Moran ( which is about Cleopatra Selene the second who was the daughter of Cleopatra and Marc Antony ) and Blood&Beauty by Sarah Dunant (which is about the Borgia family).
I'm not a huge fan of books set during the World Wars cuz I really have a hard time facing that period but I've read Code Name Verity and it pierced my soul, it was so incredible and heart-breaking and I had not seen coming! I've read an excerpt of Ruta Sepetys' upcoming book, Salt to the sea, and it also blew me away so I think I'll definitely read it when it comes out! The diviners has been on my TBR forever *hides her face* Another book that I need to pick up soon u.u
I love Prisoner of Night and Fog it's one of my favourite historical fictions. I also really love these recomendations because I too am really into WW2 historical fiction.
All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr is a really great historical fiction novel. It's a WW2 novel and it's so beautifully written. I read it nearly a year ago now and I'm still thinking about his beautiful it was
I found a book series to be great: The Geat War trilogy by Jennifer Robson, which follows various female protagonists through World War I and the 1920's. I found it refreshing to read about a heroine who was involved in the War but wasn't a VAD Nurse!
I recomend The Bronze Horseman by Paulina Simmons. It has to do with World War 2 (I think, either that or WW1) and it's set in Russia, and it's awesome and super intense (by your summery, it's kinda like Between Shades of Gray). But the book is like, over a thousand pages long O.O
great video at the perfect time! I wanted to start reading historical fiction really bad! Thanks for the video and again you look so pretty! You're so beautiful and sweet❤️❤️
Have you read anything by Kate Morton? She is my all time favourite historical fiction author. Her writing is amazing and her stories are so beautiful, especially "The secret keeper" and "The forgotten garden". If you want amazing historical fiction, check out those two. (Btw your video was great and I really agree that the boooks you recommended are worth reading.) :D
The All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness is my favourite series that deals with historical fiction. The main character is a historian and there are vampires and witches who have seen history play out. The second book is set in a historical time as well. It really is an amazing series! It's an upper YA series I'd say for age 15+. Please read it.
One of my favorite historical fiction books is Burial Rites by Hanna Kent. It takes place in Iceland in 1828. It was a great book that was very well written. It's a strong recommendation from me. I am also starting to like the works of Cat Winters. I have read one of her book, In the Shadow of Blackbirds, and it was an easy, enjoyable read. It is historical fiction, but there is a paranormal twist to it as well. I am looking forward to reading more by her.
I'm so hyped to read the diviners! The book is so pretty too. I love historical fiction but I'm stuck in the "queens and royal" section, with books about Catherine de Medici and the lovely Marie Antoinette. I also have a bunch about geisha and women in ancient China. I think it's just because I love all that old school glamour.
One that I had a good time with was Abundance by Sena Jeter Naslund, which I actually found at a goodwill by my house. A lot of the other ones I like are more fantasy, I would say, and I have three of them that are basically "Family outcast has to return and take over the throne after the parents die of mysterious causes" lol
I am looking for a book that i found on the sidewalk in San Francisco. It was a book about the Chinese counter revolution. It begins with the parents anticipating their only child's execution. The want to morn her with their villages traditions, but if they did then they would be brought in for questioning/ possibly executed themselves. I didn't get very far because I lost the book while reading outside. If it sounds familiar I would love to be able to finish it. I had it on my bookshelf for a while but I don't remember the name of it.
My favorite historical fiction is either The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux or Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. Yes, I discovered them both because of the musicals. But oh well. They're both really good. I haven't even finished Les Mis and I'm not even close but it would take a lot to make me not love it after what I've already read.
you should read "gretel and the dark", it's not popular here on booktube, but it's also world war two historical fiction mixed with some strange creepy german tales.
So many great recommendations! I really need to start reading more Historical Fiction novels, I always enjoy them so much. I still can't believe I haven't read The Book Thief!! Have you read both Code Name Verity books?
I love Between Shades of Gray, too! Stalin's genocide didn't happen in Lithuania only... It happened with other Baltic countries, too. People from my country (Latvia) and Estonia were taken away as well. And I've heard that even people from Russia were sent to Siberia. Here in Latvia we hear a lot more about these events, so I think that's why Between Shades of Gray was so important to me. There's a librarian in my school and I've heard that she her parents were sent away and she was born in Siberia and that they had to eat even their boots to survive. How awful and evil is that... And I'm actually really shocked when people from other continets say that they don't hear much about this genocide...
The DIVINERS is THE BEST SERIES I HAVE EVER READ!!! So if you like..., Characters that come to life Mystery Humor Easy Read Truly Researched work Series’s A compelling read Cleverness Climax Emotion And incredibly storytelling Them PLEASE CHECK OUT THE SERIES! I seriously need to talk about these books with someone 🤣
i'm into dystopian novels, like i enjoyed reading the divergent series and I'm currently reading the uglies series! could you give me any recommendations/make a video about it?:) ++ i love your book review videos so much xo
Why do I only like ginormous historical fiction books, like if it has less than 800 pages is unlikely that I will like it, because when I read historical fiction I like to see descriptions and to see the time period as a whole, seeing different aspects of the society at the time and at the same time having a good story and great characters, there are a few short books that for me manage to do that.
I recommend you read Shogun By James Clavell. I read it some years ago and it has between 600-900 pages, I'm can't remember. It's set in feudal Japan and the descriptions are really good and the plot is amazing, you don't know what will happen next! It has a little bit of everything, from war to romance. And the characters are amazing! There wasn't a plain character. My favorite is Toragana. It's one of y favorite books ever and historical fiction is my favorite genre.
The Book Thief is probably my favorite YA historical fiction. I agree with a lot you're saying about this book. I am the movie stayed close to the book as well.
The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah is one of my favourite historical fiction books ever 10/10 would recommend
I loved it
Is the language easy

Diana Redding yes
No my mom got me the movie instead of the book

If you see the movie about Shades of Gray you will cry even more.
I am so in love with historical fiction and Ruta Sepetys and her book Salt to the Sea is an AMAZING historical fiction novel that is multiple perspectives and i highly recommend
Harriet B YES I love that book too! I've read all her books except for out of the easy, which I definitely need to get too.
I just read that book a few weeks ago and I have to say that salt to the sea is one of the most beautiful books I’ve ever read. I don’t normally read historical books but when I read this book I was so touched. I cried for like a week and am just reading it again but I love it so much.
When I was reading between shades of gray my mom thought that it was 50 shades of gray
I haven't read historical fiction before but have always wanted to - The Diviners sounds fantastic and I would love to read it soon! Heard the audiobook is also fab! Reeeeally need to read The Book Thief too!

Great recommendations. I love historical fiction, but don't read a lot of YA. This gives me a good place to start. Thanks!
They all sound amazing! Winter puts me in a historical fiction mood. I will probably be reading most of these this winter. Please keep these recommendations coming!

aah yess i’ve read the book thief three times (not counting the time i read it for ap english) and it’s so beautiful

The Book Thief.... I adore that book.
I found a book series to be great: The Geat War trilogy by Jennifer Robson, which follows various female protagonists through World War I and the 1920's. I found it refreshing to read about a heroine who was involved in the War but wasn't a VAD Nurse!

How's the audiobook for the Book Thief? Since it's one of your ultimate favourites, I thought I'd ask for your advice before I begin it. Thanks!
