Here are some good retellings that you'll really like: Ella Enchanted - A retelling of Cinderella Fairest - A retelling of Snow White Daughter of the Forest - A retelling of the Irish legend of the Children of Lir and The Six Swans. Heart's Blood - A retelling of Beauty and the Beast Wildwood Dancing - A retelling of The Twelve Dancing Princesses Once Upon a Time - A series of novels written by various authors which are usually retellings of fairy tales published by Simon Pulse, an imprint of Simon & Schuster. I cant wait to read it. Scarlet is easy to find and the others are very hard to find. My grandpa's brother from California is visiting us here in where i live atm. And my mom is asking for them to bring the whole set from there since Barnes and Nobles is everywhere in USA😂😂. So hopefully. 😂
Entwined sounds like an amazing book! I remember watching Barbie in the 12 Dancing Princess when I was younger and I remeber loving it. I can't wait to read that book! My favourite retelling has to be the Lunar Chronicles.
Cinder! OMG. I am currently reading Scarlet and loving it just as much. I really wanna pick up a court of thorns and roses... since loved S.J.Maas writing in Throne of Glass. Your videos are so charming!!
If you are loving the first two books of the lunar Chronicles, just wait till you get to the third book because it is absolutely amazing! I loved Cress so much and the fourth book was so good too!
A Court of thorns and roses is even better than Throne of Glass, Sara J. Maas's writing has improved and every character in this series is very likable
I love Gregory Maguire's books. They are kinda retellings. They just focus on a different character. Wicked, Confessions Of An Ugly Stepsister, Mirror Mirror, After Alice, and more.
THANK YOU for getting your facts right! You're the only person out there who says that it's a East of the sun west of the moon retelling!! Also yes for Tam Lin, from the Scottish ballads!, you totally made my day!.
Strands of Bronze and Gold is a retelling of the Bluebeard fairytale. It's a standalone by Jane Nickerson and it was hauntingly beautiful! It's very gothic and mysterious and intriguing.
If you are interested in retellings I would highly recommend reading the Dorothy must die series. I was so hooked I read two books in one day 😂. It is my favourite retelling by far
I've never heard of the 12 Dancing Princesses, but Entwined sounds so good! I love retellings! Splintered also sounds interesting. I like it when the author takes the fairytale and flips it! Wicked (Gregory McGuire) does that too - makes you see characters in a different light. I have heard mixed reactions to Dorothy Must Die, but I enjoyed it. I just did my first booktube video last week. Looking forward to more and more! Thanks for your videos and your perspective.
These are all on my TBR! The Lunar Chronicles is my favorite series and it's totally opened me up to all these awesome retellings and fantasy selections that are out there. So excited, I think I finally found my element when it comes to books. Of all of these, the only one I'd never heard of is the first one but I will be sure to check it out. Thanks!
Just started today in Cinder. And even though I normally don't like YA or scie-fi, I really, really like it so far. Have you read the Wicked years quartet? It is really good imo. All the political turmoil that is going on as well as all the flashbacks etc. are really well written and I loved it (even though I took a break from Out of Oz to read The Lunar Chronicles).
Loved the video! Btw I saw your Rebel Of The Sands copy in the background and omg it's so beautiful ♥.♥ I got the paperback but I'm seriously regretting not buying it in hardcover haha
Wildwood Dancing by Juliet Marillier is really good! I've reread many times! As well as Princess of the Midnight Ball by Jessica Day George. Both are about the twelve dancing sisters lol but so different! For Alice in Wonderlands retelling I love love love Queen of Heats by Colleen Oakes! And of course The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor. SO good!
I love retellings! A more traditional retelling collection that I love is "Angela Carter's Book of Fairy Tales". It is sooo good! The fairytales in the collection are so cruel and horrifying, but also so beautiful! I really enjoyed both Cinder and ACOTAR! I'm looking forward to the rest of the series :)
Thank you so much for all of your reviews. You've actually helped me find a bunch of great books. I ordered, because of your reviews, The Wrath And The Dawn and The Hate U Give. I read, because of your reviews, Illuminae, Between Shades Of Gray, and such
My friend and I are just about to start buddy reading the Luner Chronicles, and I have a feeling that they will be addictive so it is lucky that the series has just recently finished.
The lunar Chronicals are amazing I started and finished the whole series in March! Now I am in a full on contemporary mood eventhough I'm now interested in Dorothy must die!
I've wanted to pick up the Dorothy Must Die series for a while now, but there is like a prequel trilogy of novellas before the actual series which has four books so it's a lot to read if you're going in order 😅
"Breadcrumbs" by Anne Ursu. This is a retelling of "The snow queen" by Hans Christian Andersen and it's amazing!! It also includes like two references of "The little match girl" and "The red shoes" by the same author but since I haven't read many Andersen's tales I can't tell if those two are the only references in the book. If you're gonna read it then read those three fairy tales first! I personally loved that book so much.
My all time favorite re-telling is Wicked by Gregory Maguire. It is The Wizard of Oz, but from the perspective of the Wicked Witch of the West, and it is amazing. He really gives her a voice and a legitimate backstory, which is something you didn't get in TWoO. I'm also currently reading The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury, and so far I'm really loving it! It's a re-telling of Aladdin, and the genie is a girl and she falls in love with Aladdin.
I've read a ton of retellings. It's one of my favorite genres. Some of the best I've read are 'Beauty', 'Imaginary Lands, and 'Spindle's End' by Robin McKinley (Beauty & the Beast, a mix of fairytale short stories including Tam Lin, and Sleeping Beauty); 'Ella Enchanted', 'Fairest', and 'The Princess Test' by Gail Carson Levine (Cinderella, Snow White, and The Princess and the Pea); 'Enchantment' by Orson Scott Card (Sleeping Beauty); 'Beauty Sleep' and 'The Storyteller's Daughter' by Cameron Dokey (Sleeping Beauty and 1001 Arabian Nights).
I highly recommend Wildwood Dancing by Juliet Marillier. That's a twelve dancing princesses retelling and it's so wonderful. I also know there's a Scarlet Pimpernel retelling called Rook. I read the first 65 pages and really liked it
Alex Flinn's books are amazing retellings!! I've read Beastly, A Kiss in Time, & Towering.. I want to read the other two but haven't gotten around to it yet. But the are so good! I definitely recommend them!!!
here are some of my favorite retelling I recommend: zombie fairytales by Kevin Richey; the princess curse by merrie Haskell; kill me softly by Sarah cross; beauty by robin McKinley; scarlet by a.c. gaughen; queen of hearts by colleen oakes. i also love a series called "once upon a time" which has 18 books written by different authors of different fairytales. these books are quick, easy and fun reads. enjoy 😃
i loved Splintered because of your past reviews on it and I definitely agree with what you said about the series. I'd recommend Wendy Darling: Stars by Colleen Oakes, it's not perfect but I think it's one of the better retellings of a "bad" Peter Pan and the second book should be out very soon :) It was in my favourites for 2015
U should read The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury it is an Aladdin retelling and I love it so much. And it's only a standalone. But everyone needs to read it cause it's amazing!!!
My favorite retelling would have to be Unhooked by Lisa Maxwell that is a retelling of Peter Pan that follows a girl who has to choose between the charming Peter Pan who says all the right things or to the scheming young pirate that has good intentions for her safety. i recommend this book so much and I hope you guys like it too. Thanks for reading. Bye!!!
I enjoyed "Wicked" which is a retelling of The Wizard of OZ. I also loved reading "The Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennett" and "The Epic Adventures of Lydia Bennett" which are books based on the web series "The Lizzie Bennett Diaries" which is a re telling of "Pride and Prejudice" I also enjoyed "The Wrath and the Dawn" I am going to be reading the next book. Question. I am not sure but what about novels that are not really re telling? Meaning there is this series called "Unbound" where this girl time travels inside a story. The first book is "A Breath of Eyre" where this young girl is reading Jane Eyre for English class and one night she gets struck by lighting and transported into the novel Jane Eyre. Another book (a stand alone) "Little Women and Me" where this girl is transported into the story "Little Women". Do they count as re tellings or are they different?
I often feel like I'm the only one with this opinion but I love The Madman's Daughter trilogy! Each book is a spin on a classic sci-fi/gothic horror novel which is such a cool change of pace from the typical fairytale retellings. The first book is based on The Island of Dr. Moreau, the sequel is Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and the third one is really obvious to predict when reading it, but I guess it's technically a spoiler so I won't say ;) They're such quick reads though and the romance doesn't completely overshadow the rest of the plot, which I love.
I've read Acotar and the first two books of the lunar chronicles and loved them specially Acotar. Also I would like to recommend Beastly by Alex Flinn, I read a couple of years ago and loved it.
I haven't read it yet, but you should check out The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury! It's an Aladdin retelling and I have heard really good reviews about it so far.
I was cringing at your description of Dorothy Must Die. Did whoever write this read THE REST OF THE OZ BOOKS? I LOVE the Oz books... I hope DMD doesn't disappoint (too much)...
Hey guys..I wanna buy a book for my frnd 1.Heartless by Melissa Meyer 2.Spinning silver by Naomi Novik 3. To kill a kingdom by Alexandra Christo Which book did you like the most?
I love the A.G. Howard novels and even included them in my third year university dissertation looking at the twenty-first century evolutions of Alice, or the Alice "type". I really enjoyed this recommendations video, and also your review of Heartless (another favourite of mine too). :)
Princess of Thorns by Stacey Jay (Sleeping Beauty), Scarlet by A.C. Gaughen (Robin Hood), Looking Glass Wars (Alice in Wonderland), and Book of Lost Things by John Connolly (at least 8 fairy tales come into play with this one, creating a whole world for them).
I'm 24, so a lot of the following retellings are older, since I read them my early teens, but they're awesome and all YA or adult books: -"East" by Edith Pattou: it's an incredible retelling of "Beauty and the Beast"; definitely my favorite version of this story. -"Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister" and "Mirror Mirror" by Gregory Maguire: These are retellings of "Cinderella" and "Snow White", respectively. In both cases, they're set in historical times and kind of turn the fairy tales on their heads. I'd probably consider both these books to be adult rather than YA. Maguire's most famous work is probably "Wicked", but I liked both of these books a lot better. - "Spindle's End" and "Beauty" by Robin McKinley: Robin McKinley is a fantastic fantasy writer and her retelling of "Sleeping Beauty" is one of my favorites! "Beauty" is a retelling of "Beauty and the Beast".
Beastkeeper by Cat Hellisen (she is *amazing* and everyone should read everything she's written) Robin McKinley has written a bunch of retellings: Beauty, Spindle's End, and Rose Daughter being the ones I can think of right now. Uprooted by Naomi Novik I *adore* retellings. If you really wanted I could put some thought into it and compile a list of my favorites. I've read so very many..
These are very good recommendations, I love retellings! I'll be getting ACOTAR soon. You should check out Alias Hook by Lisa Jensen, I just bought it but haven't read it yet but it was recommended by a friend whom I trust + the cover is GORGEOUS!
Great Video, as always :) I really enjoy watching your videos 💕 Do you think you could make a video about how you found your inspiration to write and the courage to start writing? :)
You should totally read Tiger Lily, especially if you want to cry... A LOT! it's a retelling of Peter Pan and it's so unique and beautiful! Please check it out
You should read Gregory McGuire's books who was the inspiration for Wicked the musical also Fairest of them all by Carolyn Turgeon. That's really good; the basic premise is that Rapunzel is the evil queen in Snow White perfectly blending the 2 fairytales. Strands of bronze and gold is actually based on the blue beard fairytale which isn't well known tale and is really good. Books by Jenni James and Lani Lenore are great and you can find them on the Kindle app.
Any of Alex Flinn's re-tellings. They're all stand-alone novels but take place in the same universe. For instance there's a witch who shows up in her BatB, Cinderella, and Snow White re-tellings. Oh also check out Ella Enchanted, a re-telling of Cinderella, and Fairest, a re-telling of Snow White, both by Gail Carson Levine. Like Alex Flinn's re-tellings, Gail Carson Levine's books are stand-alone novels that take place in the same universe.
Great Video Hailey my favorite YA re telling series is The Ravenspire Series All Four Different Stories Shadow Queen aka Snow White The Wish Granter aka Rumplestilsken The Traitor Prince aka Prince and the Pauper and finally The Blood Spell aka Cinderella I Absolutely Love That Series I think you would to when you have a chance definitely check that series out 📚😊
I don't know if you will see this caz it's been a wile since you posted this but I know you love Alice and the wonderland world. The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor this is such a cool and different reselling of Alice's story. And it kind of even talked about the original story. I love this book and its sequel and no one really knows about it and I think you would really like it.
Right noww I'm reading Beastly, by Alex Flinn.. It's soo good so far! :D Going to continue it tonight.. (obviously it's a retelling of Beauty and the beast ;) )
Great video! I don't know if anyone else has commented on the pronunciation of Shahrzad. As far as I know if you're trying to pronounce it in English it's Shu (like from shut) and then hair-is-odd. Shu-hair-is-odd. lol If I'm totally wrong, someone please correct me. It's probably pronounced different in proper Arabic also. lol ^_^ In regards to retellings you've pretty much nailed all the ones I would have mentioned. lol I have heard both good and bad things about Winterspell though. It's a retelling of The Nutcracker. Haven't read it myself yet but I plan to during Christmas. lol
Am I the only one who didn't like ACOTAR? hahahah but, anyway, you should read Elle enchanted, Cinder & Ella, Bitter greens or For darkens shows the stars. I think they are really good ^^
If you haven't read it, you should definitely read The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter, it's a series of short stories which are feminist retellings of a number of fairy tales. They don't take very long to read and are awesome :)
Here are some good retellings that you'll really like:
Ella Enchanted - A retelling of Cinderella
Fairest - A retelling of Snow White
Daughter of the Forest - A retelling of the Irish legend of the Children of Lir and The Six Swans.
Heart's Blood - A retelling of Beauty and the Beast
Wildwood Dancing - A retelling of The Twelve Dancing Princesses
Once Upon a Time - A series of novels written by various authors which are usually retellings of fairy tales published by Simon Pulse, an imprint of Simon & Schuster.
Beastly - A retelling of Beauty and the Beast that takes place in modern-day New York City
A Kiss In Time - A retelling of Sleeping Beauty
Firebird - A retelling of The Golden Bird and The Firebird
The Black Swan - A retelling of Swan Lake
Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast - A retelling of Beauty and the Beast
Rose Daughter - A retelling of Beauty and the Beast
Spindle's End - A retelling of Sleeping Beauty
East - A retelling of East of the Sun and West of the Moon
Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow - A retelling of East of the Sun and West of the Moon
Ice - A retelling of East of the Sun and West of the Moon
The Bloody Chamber - A collection of stories that are retellings of fairy tales or folk tales.
Fairest isn’t really Snow White. Winter is though.
I honestly, politely, disagree with the fact that Ella Enchanted is a retelling of Cinderella.
Who is the author of Ice? Can't seem to find it.
The Lunar Chronicle is definitely a must read
I am read cinder and plan on read the other three books in the siries
Hinny Harry ginny forever I already read all the series.

A Court of thorns and roses is even better than Throne of Glass, Sara J. Maas's writing has improved and every character in this series is very likable
I'm reading Dorothy Must die right now! Also, you may have already read it, but the Shadow Queen was really good! Love your videos!
A Traveling Book Do i have to read those books to understand the retelling or to read this triology?
cinder is simply amazing!!!
For retellings I highly recommend Tiger Lily
Don't Stop Readin' yes!
I've never seen Entwined spoken about in booktube. I'm so glad you did because that is one of my favorite books of all time!

I really enjoyed both Cinder and ACOTAR! I'm looking forward to the rest of the series :)
I thought ACOTAR was a duology? I am super excited that we are getting a series with this c:
+Jessica Golden it's a trilogy as far as i know!
thats so cool! I wonder what the third book will be about.
If you go onto goodreads it says that there is six books in A Court of Thorns series. I don't know.
Yeah I read a Q&A with Sara J Maas and it's definitely more than a trilogy like 4 more books maybe
You should read tiger lily it's short and its soo good. It's like a Peter Pan story. I loved it

There's a fourth? 😱
@@mrsnismo a novella I believe
I've read a ton of retellings. It's one of my favorite genres. Some of the best I've read are 'Beauty', 'Imaginary Lands, and 'Spindle's End' by Robin McKinley (Beauty & the Beast, a mix of fairytale short stories including Tam Lin, and Sleeping Beauty); 'Ella Enchanted', 'Fairest', and 'The Princess Test' by Gail Carson Levine (Cinderella, Snow White, and The Princess and the Pea); 'Enchantment' by Orson Scott Card (Sleeping Beauty); 'Beauty Sleep' and 'The Storyteller's Daughter' by Cameron Dokey (Sleeping Beauty and 1001 Arabian Nights).

i loved Splintered because of your past reviews on it and I definitely agree with what you said about the series. +Cassandra Long and Cress is on BookOutlet right now :) enjoy your summer!
U should read The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury it is an Aladdin retelling and I love it so much. And it's only a standalone. But everyone needs to read it cause it's amazing!!!

Stitching Snow
It's so good and kind of like Cinder
I'm reading Cinder right now!!! Its so good.

Hey girl! WE LOVE YOUR BOOK SHELVES!!! Hollahhhhh fellow femme Canadian book lover!!!
I enjoyed "Wicked" which is a retelling of The Wizard of OZ. The Forbidden Wish is a retelling of Aladdin i believe. i haven't read it yet but i'm planning on getting it soon since i heard it got good reviews
Something Rich and Strange by Patricia A. McKillip is another Tam Lin retelling, so good, impossible to pass up.
I hope DMD doesn't disappoint (too much)...

it is a twisted version of Disney's version of the little mermaid is a must read!!!!
I'm 24, so a lot of the following retellings are older, since I read them my early teens, but they're awesome and all YA or adult books:
-"East" by Edith Pattou: it's an incredible retelling of "Beauty and the Beast"; definitely my favorite version of this story.
Beastkeeper by Cat Hellisen (she is *amazing* and everyone should read everything she's written)
Robin McKinley has written a bunch of retellings: Beauty, Spindle's End, and Rose Daughter being the ones I can think of right now.
Uprooted by Naomi Novik
I *adore* retellings. If you really wanted I could put some thought into it and compile a list of my favorites. I've read so very many..
These are very good recommendations, I love retellings! I'll be getting ACOTAR soon. You should check out Alias Hook by Lisa Jensen, I just bought it but haven't read it yet but it was recommended by a friend whom I trust + the cover is GORGEOUS!
my favourite would be tiger lily by jodi lynn anderson!!!
Great Video, as always :)
I really enjoy watching your videos 💕
Do you think you could make a video about how you found your inspiration to write and the courage to start writing? :)
You should totally read Tiger Lily, especially if you want to cry... A LOT! it's a retelling of Peter Pan and it's so unique and beautiful! Please check it out
Hi there I love ur videos ur really good at reviews and talking about books what age would u say u need to be to read the Lunar Chronicles series xx
I have a recommendation - FORBIDDEN WISH BY JESSICA KHOURY which is a story retelling of Aladdin
Tigerlily and Beastly!!
Great Video Hailey my favorite YA re telling series is The Ravenspire Series All Four Different Stories Shadow Queen aka Snow White The Wish Granter aka Rumplestilsken The Traitor Prince aka Prince and the Pauper and finally The Blood Spell aka Cinderella I Absolutely Love That Series I think you would to when you have a chance definitely check that series out 📚😊
love Entwined! got in when I was younger and my copy is so worn because i've read it so much, whoops!
If you love Retellings you should try Dust City by Robert Paul Weston!
omg i am reading entwined right now! its do lovely 😍
Great video :) Have you read Slumber by Christy Sloat? It is one of my favorite retelling books!
Omg I just finished reading entwined on Wednesday 👏😀 so good
Wicked is definitely one of my favorite retellings basically anything by Gregory Meguire is great
I don't know if you will see this caz it's been a wile since you posted this but I know you love Alice and the wonderland world. The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor this is such a cool and different reselling of Alice's story. And it kind of even talked about the original story. I love this book and its sequel and no one really knows about it and I think you would really like it.
I loved Fairest by Gail Carson Levine! It's a retelling of Snow White! But it makes the Snow White counterpart has big flaws!
Brandy Loutherback love!!!
I love Entwined and it is so sad how underwhelmed it is😭
I've just read Dorothy Must Die and I recommend it to anyone who likes fairytale retellings or books in general ahhh😍😂
Bloomin Loomin currently reading that one now 😍
Awesome video and i am so ready to buy some of these books !
Right noww I'm reading Beastly, by Alex Flinn.. It's soo good so far! :D Going to continue it tonight.. (obviously it's a retelling of Beauty and the beast ;) )
I am currently reading beastly by Alex Flinn. This novel is a retelling of Beauty and the Best. I like it so far, it is good.
Love Cinder series!
Entwined is bae! It is so underhyped which is such a shame because ITS AMAZING
Great video! I don't know if anyone else has commented on the pronunciation of Shahrzad. As far as I know if you're trying to pronounce it in English it's Shu (like from shut) and then hair-is-odd. Shu-hair-is-odd. lol
If I'm totally wrong, someone please correct me. It's probably pronounced different in proper Arabic also. lol ^_^
In regards to retellings you've pretty much nailed all the ones I would have mentioned. lol I have heard both good and bad things about Winterspell though. It's a retelling of The Nutcracker. Haven't read it myself yet but I plan to during Christmas. lol
Hello! I'm arabic, and we prounounce Shahrazad as Shara-zed :)
Kath Loves I'm currently reading twatd and I say shara-zad
You should read Rump: the true story of rumpelstiltion. I loved this book.
YES ENTWINED YES YES YES
I think you'll like Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson
The Land of Stories series
