Thanks for watching my video on The Best Dowel Jig! - Questions below!

Your review is pretty much spot on. I used the Milescraft for sometime, and it did get the job done. However if you want to graduate to higher end dowel assembly then I would save all your aluminum cans, cash them in, and buy both the Dowelmax and the Jessum Doweling jigs. Using these jigs are such a joy. I love the built in clamping system of the Dowelmax. If you are going to be doing a ton of dowel work, no one will regret investing in the higher end doweling systems. They are built like tanks and will probably last a couple of generations of woodworkers.

Thanks. I'll probably look through this a few times and may try a couple of them.

Nice video. I have both the Dowel Max and the Jess Em which are definitely higher end but are well worth the money if you want a durable precision system. I have tried several others but found these two brands are far and away the best. I build high end furniture and use dowel joints exclusively. They take some time to do, but the strength of the joint is well worth it. Thanks again for a very nice video!

I have the Dawelmax and think it's great for panels and stuff but if you're doing tapered table legs with a reveal it can get confusing. Would the Jessem be any less confusing in that situation?

I use the JessEm for those situations. Sometimes clamping the JessEM can be a challenge, but I think it works great. I will write down my settings once I figure what reveal I want as to not confuse myself. JessEm has a new stainless system that also works great, not as beefy as the original, but is less expensive and does everything just fine. I use my Dowel Max for more repetitive easy doweling where I can just use the built in clamp and go. I think I actually use my JessEm system the most now that I think about it. Hope that helps!@@ronhau1542

Great video. Thank you. Now I have too many choices! Just one question, what on earth is alluineeum? I don’t see it on the periodic table!

For the money, I think you likely made a good call. I checked out the Jessem and the Dowl Max, but they are pricey. While digging around, I found that Jessem has a new product that isn't quit as expensive. I'll consider the Weekender edition of the new product, but it's still 5 times what the Wolfcraft costs. I don't like to throw money around, but I am at a point in my life that money isn't the issue it once was and this will see a good bit of use. At least I hope it will. we'll see. Got some thinkin to do. Thanks for the vid.

If you are considering the Jessum, and you do a bit of dowel work then You should buy it. You won't regret it. I like my Jessum so much I might just buy that new stainless steel model for my collection. Yeah, kind of a tool junkie. There are worse things I could be spending my money on!

Metric jigs for those of us located outside of the US 🤔

The Wolfcraft is the worst of these 5 jig: it puts the dowels off center (except for panels with a thickness of 1/2") resulting in a weak joint.
What did you mean with "centering pins are not included"? There is no way to center the dowels on the edge of a panel with this jig.

Man, the imperial measurement system is ridiculous

    • @patricksmith4424

Totally agree. The UK is in the ridiculous situation of having a dual system of metric and imperial, come on guys get real. Metric canes imperial it's in base 10, whilst, imperial us all about complicated fractions. Don't get me on to traditions. Why is it OK to dump all the good traditions and leave the bad ones?

    • @williambelford9661

@patricksmith4424 the UK went metric in the 1970s - was working in heavy engineering when the country changed to metric.

@@williambelford9661 I wouldn't be so sure about that. Just go to any online supplier of metal or wood and there is a dual system, and I feel since Brexit it is swinging more back to imperial.

      @@patricksmith4424 I apologise you're right, I was mistaken.
On checking, the UK officially adopted the metric system of measuring in 1965 not the 70s.

I live in Canada and we claim to use both, but in carpentry imperial unfortunately dominates. It is absolutely a terrible system but people continue to use it just because they are used to it.

Could you elaborate when you say there is no centering pin on the wolfcraft ? I think I know what you mean but I just want to be 100% sure.
